I just picked up a galaxy express prime running 6.0. I saw that nougat is available, but its not rootable. Has anyone tried stock 7.1 on the J320? I only saw one comment that said it made their phone very slow. I had a galaxy sol j321 on cricket that ran 6.0 and it got good battery life but was kinda laggy. I figure nougat will manage ram better? I'd like to flash TWRP but I cant find one for the J320A/AZ

Try flashing just the system.img, it's a long shot but maybe the marshmallow kernel can boot it?
If it does you could maintain root.

am really tired, when i updated to lollipop program take alot of ram space and make some app to re open it again when i returned to it,not save it,so i returned to kitkat but the battery drain fast about 1% every minute.
that crazy so what to do? am not expected that from note 4.
advice plz with abuild version or area which work good,no matter kitkat ot lollipop.
thanks
I also returned back to Kitkat & after returning I reset my Note 4 (factory reset) , and every thing working fine
Lollipop is full with bugs so maybe my next update will be Android M when it will come, I believe Lollipop is a no go with a lot of bugs and issues even the coming 5.1.1

what is your product name and which baseband version u on ?
IR work with u?
my phone is N910H
My Note 4 n-910G is working good on lollipop. I'm on stock non-rooted 5.0.1 and i cant wait to get 5.1.1 (M would be heaven but i'm not holding my breath for it). Lollipop for me is quite fast and just tiny annoying bugs, nothing major. Kitkat 4.4.4 was blazing fast for me before. It's suffered a little after i flashed L but i wont go back now. I'm lucky i haven't got the battery issues i keep hearing about, or those lags/bugs. That would make me throw the phone across the room.
Here's to Samsung to give it's best flagship of late 2014, early 2015 Android M

Have you checked your camera pictures ???
Observe the viewfinder, the way everything looks, it will all show like some paint effect compared to the pictures that came sharp while on kitkat.
Please do compare pictures when on kitkat and after lollipop update.
I have created a new thread on it. Many have not observed their camera picture quality post update.
ok... now i'mma worried. will try it

Ok go back to lollipop and flash the 5.1.1 kuybi rom. It's fast and smooth. It's been debloated and is very good on battery life. It's much better then any of the other lollipop and kitkat. In fact I would go as far to say it's the best lollipop build here on xda for now.
It's been a while since I last did this, and I'm afraid I'm quite confused...
I am running a custom ROM (Bliss Beta 6) but remembered that updating my ROM doesn't update my baseband/modem.
Are baseband and modem the same thing?
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-10398
Using this site here I see that my current baseband (G900TUVU1CNK2) is super outdated. It tells me that G900T3UVU1FOG6 or G900TUVS1FOL1 are the latest, but I don't get why there are two. Which one should I install?
All that being said, can I install using TWRP and a zip, or do I need to ODIN it?
Any help would be appreciated, as I said I've done this before but can't find any updated tutorials that explain the questions I'm asking (I've tried searching google and XDA, if I missed something obvious I would appreciate a link!).
cheers
More research has helped me answer my own question! Sharing what I've found in case anyone else comes across this thread:
Baseband and Modem are effectively the same thing in this context.
G900T3UVU1FOG6 was released in August 2015 and has the fix for stage-fright.
G900TUVS1FOJ4 was released in November 2015
G900TUVS1FOL1 is pretty much brand new (released in December 2015) so there's not a lot on it. This is the one I'm going to try installing.
Followed the instructions from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo.../compilation-s5-g900t-stock-firmware-t3042400 to figure it out.

i've been wondering this myself, so did you update your baseband & is there any change in battery or signal quality? (or i guess stagefright detector?)
also wondering if downgrading is no problem or if it affects anything like that (which stock samsung or other device kernels/ROMs do, sometimes blocking root etc)
Hey, so I actually updated to G900TUVS1FOL1 using ODIN. It nuked everything and installed regular TouchWiz which I wasn't a fan of, but I have no problem installing my own ROM later.
If you're doing the T-Mobile one, then there is no issue with rooting, installing kernels, custom ROMs, etc. I don't really know about "downgrading" the baseband or modem, but I don't think you would need to in this case.
Note that if you have Verizon or At&T you probably want to be SUPER careful, because they lock down everything.

it's a g900t yes
i am going to look into upgrading it more directly rather than the complete samsung image... maybe... so you're confirming the official tmobile samsung 5.1.1 complete installation still lets you flash TWRP then cyanogen without a problem? i came from november 2014 samsung 4.4 to CM originally

yes, I installed G900TUVS1FOL1 with Odin, had root and TWRP installed just fine (couldn't get xposed to work because it was not a deoxdex rom of course). I just installed BlissPop ROM last night which is based on CM13. So yes, it didn't lock me down or anything.

The last Oreo G930P update is still using binary 6, so you can downgrade to Nougat 7.0.
Here the last Nougat 7.0 build:

Suggest you use Odin to flash stock Nougat first and give that a go. It's pretty good and I've felt no reason to root just to get Oreo.

Thanks for the reply.
Is that the Samsung wrapped Nougat or the raw version..... I am hoping to get away from some of the Samsung bloat..
In your current Lollipop, the mixture of Samsung Bloat and a bad version of Android, (5.0.2 was a car crash.) makes it an awful experience.
In Android 6 & 7, Samsung have really reduced the bloat and the underlying OS, is significantly better. If you install stock and spend half an hour cleaning the bloat, its a really consistent experience on the S2 and I've not experienced any slowdown. :victory:
When thinking about root and Oreo, just remember this hardware is getting old now and wasn't exactly fast 3 years ago. Battery life on the 8" version isn't great due to its small size. As Samsung have been good at providing security updates, I really can't see enough gains in the whole rooting experience.
Many thanks for your help........ I will take the simple route via odin. I will see how I get along
Samsung Galaxy S8+ Duos SM-G955FD just got updated to Android 9.0 Pie. My S8+ is unlocked and sourced from UAE.

Yes got it yesterday. Try connecting to PC and run smart switch. I started downloading but it terminated prematurely. I then found and downloaded the update through OTA.
Nothing for U series, not even a beta >.<
I'm in the UK with a G955FD. The download has now become available. I may not install it as I like the facility to record calls, not possible with 9.0. I might prefer to wait for a custom ROM based on 9.0 with the facility restored.

What's New - Upgraded One UI for Android Pie
I have not installed it yet as I am skeptical about performance issues after installing it. Those who have installed it, Can you please share your experience so far? Are you facing any kind of issues?
My friend installed it on S9 Plus and it botched his Contacts List Completely. Any such issues in S8 Plus?
UI 1.1
I have a question whether S8 + gets an update to UI 1.1 or that samsung does not issue any UI interface updates.

Well, so far after the last March act. is not. I don't believe that much: / don't you know how S9 + is? if you have 1.1 UI?
Batterylife is absolute crap on Pie.
Uses 30% more battery in a day than on previous firmware.

have you done a factory reset? this is a major update. i would always do one when going up a whole version. most people i have seen including myself and all of my close friends have been amazed at how great the battery is. if you havent done a reset yet there is really no reason to claim it has bad battery. there are so many things that can get messed up with a big ota. if that is how you got it anyway.
I have in Ireland

I do not understand what you are asking ... I installed the last update and everything works as it is just the version of UI is still 1.0 which I thought might already give 1.1 but this probably won't get S8 +
I upgraded this week and it's been a pain, split screen stopped working so factory reset, about 4 hours after the reset the same happened again ,reset again solved that but now status bar has disappeared, so can only check the battery by swiping down. Just wish I could downgrade ! Leave it a while before upgrading would be my advice.
Can't agree with that. Running latest u1 beta and it is pretty much flawless. daily driver all day.
