[SOLVED] Bootloop after flashing Open Gapps 8.1 - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

It seems that I get a bootloop whenever I'm flashing Open Gapps 8.1 on my XT1622, official or unofficial, pico, nano or mini. At first I thought that it could just take a while until everything is up and ready, so I left my phone on for an hour and it wouldn't pass the boot animation. Sometimes a forced reboot after flashing an 8.1 ROM and Gapps gets the phone up and running, but the Play Services crash and I cannot log into Google. Did you guys have this issue? If yes, is there any fix for it?

Can you please explain which rom and version and which gapps you want to flash? If you are not sure, please give the link.
Pixel experience rom for example comes with gapps, so there's no need to flash gapps seperately.

Well I am trying to install OmniRom (11 march build) with the latest Gapps (the micro version). I had this issue with AOSPExtended, Ressurection Remix and AICP using the lastest (at that moment) Gapps.

You can also try unofficial gapps https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=745849072291693774

After flashing, mount system from TWRP, go to the "Advanced" tab, click on Terminal and type the following command:
echo "ro.setupwizard.mode=DISABLED" >> /system/build.prop
This did the job for me, since it appears that there is a problem with the Setup Wizard on arm64 gapps.

Use BeansGapps Mini. OpenGapps has problems.

Well, after you flash your desired ROM and gapps, go to the main TWRP menu, click on "Mount" and check the "system" option. Make sure that "Mount system read-only" is NOT checked. After that, go to the main menu, go to "Advanced" and tap on "Terminal". Type the command, tap on enter (on the keyboard obviously), go to the main menu, go to "Reboot" and tap on "System". Done. Now you wait for the system to boot, will usually take a max of 8-10 minutes (for the first boot).
What the command specifically does is that it disables the Setup Wizard that you see when you boot your phone for the first time, because it causes boot loops with OpenGapps 8.1. After that, you can just go to "Settings" and you will most probably be greeted with the "Finish setup" option (Or "Finish setting up your Pixel" option) that essentially does the exact same thing as the Setup Wizard would do.

corlatemanuel you just saved me, I gave me nightmares for days ! Thanks !!

I installed this Official RRemix Oreo:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-redmi-3s/development/rom-resurrection-remix-6-0-0-land-11-feb-t3747992
from May 11 together open_gapps-arm64-8.1-nano-20180511.zip (both install and reboot) and the system started without any problems and no Google services FC.
Maybe in this rom dev solved this problem :good:

Well since it's a MTK phone I'd recommend that you try booting the ROM by itself, with no gapps, and see how that goes. You're going to have a hard time getting help for this kind of phones, so if that model is more popular in your country, then maybe you can get help on some local forum, that might have a topic dedicated to that phone. Otherwise, even if I don't like to say it, Google is your best friend.

I have having a similar problem on the wileyfox swift 2 on arm64 gapps, in theory will this work on this device too?
Was going to try however on 22% battery so need to recharge, so thought I would check first.
Thanks

Hello everyone. The solution didn't work for me. BeansGapps neither.
I flash AOSP Extended 5.8 - 20180816-2211-OFFICIAL, wipe Cache, flash OpenGapps ARM64-8.1-nano-20170906, wipe again. Then I make the above changes and reboot. Still bootloop. It does make the sound, it usually does when the phone is booted, after a while though.

Yeah, I have noticed it a while back, Google must have done fricc something. From what I can tell you, the best you can do is hope that either OpenGapps or MindTheGapps will work on the ROM you are flashing, and if OpenGapps is the only one to work but has no network signal then wipe system and flash the same ROM with BeansGapps, without wiping data. Also, you should know that the equivalent for MindTheGapps is OpenGapps Pico.
And also, Note 1: Don't use outdated Gapps
Note 2: BeansGapps is very outdated

This evening I will try MindTheGapps, but my hopes are not very high.

[Help!] Can't flash custom ROM because..

I flashed "Resurection Remix" but it's stuck first time booting. I've left it for up to 20 minutes and it hasn't done anything then I had problems getting in to recovery but I managed to get in to recovery but then Windows stopped picking up the storage on the Redmi 2 so I can't get the rom on to the Redmi 2.
I then tried to "adb sideload" but no matter what driver I use, it says "you need adb 1.0.32 or newer to sideload this device" so i'm stuck yet again.
The Redmi 2 only appears in Device Manager when it's in "fastboot" mode and I currently have the latest drivers from Android SDK.
This isn't really my strong point in technology so i'm highly confused as to what to do, does anyone know how to help. Please.

This thing also happened with me. Resurrection remix got bootloop on my phone. But there is no thing to worry about. Follow these steps :
1) Download CM 13 (latest emfox build) and micro arm 6.0 gapps from opengapps.
2) Place them in the external SD card.
3) Boot into recovery, Mount ext SD card.
4) Clear data, cache &dalvik cache.
5) Flash ROM then gapps.
6) Reboot, done.
PM me if something goes wrong.

### ROM perfectly working except Encryption, Video recording doesn't work in all apps or with all camera applications
+ OpenGApps ARM 9 pico : http://opengapps.org/?arch=arm&api=9&variant=pico
+ a microSD card. Copy ROM, Gapps and Magisk on microSD card (FAT32 format) and insert it in phone.
+ Charge phone to 100 %
2) BACKUP DATA
Install Samsung drivers (you unzipped earlier).
Then plug phone to PC in File transfer mode.
Collect all .jpg or .mp4
Use an app like Backupyourmobile to backup texts, contacts, etc.
Check that backup is located on microSD card.
Then copy the backup on your PC.
Erase your Google Account: Go to Settings > Account > Google and erase it.
3) FLASH TWRP 3.6 RECOVERY
Shut down phone.
Boot in Download Mode : hold Home + Power + Volume- for 3 seconds and release.
Confirm with Volume+.
Phone now displays: Downloading, do not turn off target.
Connect phone in USB, wait for bootloader drivers installation.
Then launch Odin.exe (included in my archive) and wait for Odin indicator ID:COM to become blue.
In options: Verify re-partition and Auto Reboot are NOT ticked while F. Reset Time is ticked.
In AP > select twrp-3.6.0_9-0-kminilte.img.tar
### Warranty will be Void after next click ###
Click Start.
When PASS! success green message appears.
Wait a few seconds, then hold again Home + Power + Volume- to reboot phone.
Let phone restart then shut it down.
4) BACKUP IMEI PARTITION
Boot in Recovery Mode: Hold Home + Power + Volume+ until you see the Samsung logo then release and wait a few seconds for TWRP recovery to boot.
If it asks for Keep System Read Only ? > Swipe to Allow Modifications.
Go to Backup > you can select the partitions you want to save.
Select all partitions in order to be able to restore phone to it's original state.
Select at least EFS partition to backup your IMEI. If a flash fails and partition is damaged you will still be able to restore this partition and use the phone.
If IMEI is lost during a flash, phone won't be able to reach cellphone networks.
I prefer to backup EFS, Boot and System.
Now type Select Storage > Select Micro SD card and confirm with OK
Now Swipe to Backup and wait during process.
Go to Home screen and continue with next chapter.
Connect phone or microSD to PC.
Open microSD folder and backup TWRP folder to a safe place.
Youe /efs partition is now safe (+/- other partitions if you need to fix some crashes).
5) WIPE PARTITIONS
Go to Wipe > Format Data
Type yes and confirm with bottom right Check icon.
Then go to Wipe > Advanced wipe,
select Dalvik, Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage (if you really made a backup from step 2), then Swipe to Wipe,
then back.
Go back to TWRP Home screen > Reboot > Recovery and Swipe to confirm.
At reboot, if TWRP asks for Keep System Read Only ? > Swipe to Allow Modifications.
6) FLASH ROM, GAPPS AND MAGISK
Back to TWRP Home menu. Then tap on Install > choose LOS16*.zip,
(if you don't see the files, tap on Select Storage and make sure Micro SDCard is active).
then Add more Zips > open_gapps*.zip,
then Swipe to confirm Flash.
Wait for operation to end.
### OPTIONAL FOR ROOT
Go to Reboot > Recovery.
Once phone rebooted, go to Install > Magisk.
Then tap Wipe cache/dalvik, swipe to confirm,
then Reboot System.
Wait for the phone to boot during 10 minutes.
7) ROOT ACCESS
No extra steps for root. Magisk starts with Android.
Open Magisk Manager app to manage root permissions.
8) DON'T USE BUILT-IN CAMERA APP
Using LineageOS default camera app will crash when switching from photos to videos.
Use Simple Camera app included (or Google Camera, Footej camera).
9) EXTRA
You can use GPS Status & Toolbox app for faster GPS fix.
For faster phone, go to Settings > About.
Tap 7 times on Build number.
Go to Settings > System > Avdanced > Developer options.
Set Windows animation scale, Transition animation scale and Animator duration scale to 0.5x.
For better battery longevity, set Dark mode. Settings > Display > Avanced > Style > Style > Dark
And Dark mode > Dark.
Enjoy,
djibe

Update: Thanks to C0rn3j in the TWRP thread I got it to work with heimdall and pulling the battery.

Nice guide! I have been using custom roms on my mini for about a year and never knew mutch about that I can change the filesystem.
However sometimes my phone becomes very laggy, and unresponsive.(Maybe memory settings problems) I tried several kernel settings but did not find the best yet.
What is Your opinion? What are the best kernel settings to our model?

Do you think LOS is stable enough to propose it in my tutorial ?
Thank you for the guide! It worked really well. There were a number of details I didn't know, like the performance difference between filesystem formats, and everything was very step-by-step and super helpful.
One issue: TWRP 3.2.1 doesn't work with the 6.0 Spookcity kernel. You have to disable the device check to get it to work. Looks like Panzerknakker uploaded one with that change: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77725358&postcount=285

Are you talking about LOS 15? If so, no IMO. It was stable but buggy. I'm actually downgrading back from 15.1 to 14 due to issues with internal storage and battery consumption, and sometimes it would stop charging and require a hard restart..

v4. Updated pack with TWRP Recovery 3.2.3-0 and Spookcity kernel 6.0-1
Update: I'm having some major issues with lag on my device. 15 seconds to open Chrome, occasional overheating, high CPU usage on small things, etc.
I've had LOS14.1 (a slightly older version) on this device before, minus the different filesystem format and the Spookcity kernel, and not experienced this issue. So I'm thinking about rolling back some of the changes to see which ones were the cause.
Is there an unmodified version of the kernel out there?

You are quite right, Galaxy S2 i9100 can be tricky when USB is badly recognized by the PC. And to be honest its performances are low.

How to install DotOS?

Hello hopefully this question is allowed and this is the right place to ask. If not pls dont hurt me.
So i saw a thread about DotOS and it looks really nice so i thought i should install it. But tbh i'm totally lost. I have a Galaxy S5 SM-G900F model. And i dont know what to do to get something like a Custom Rom to running on it. I saw something about Bootloader there then some Recovery tool and Flashing. But nowhere i found a real "Tutorial" or Step by Step guide. So before i do something stupid and destroy my Phone i ask here for help. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advice!

I don't use that rom
Did you wipe data before flashing the rom?
You can manually just goto settings and clear data of every Google app but really if you wiped data before you flashed the rom you wouldn't need to do this
Can't really suggest anything else
I use lineageos 15.1

I did everything what you sayd. System, Cache, data and dalvik/art cache. And after flashing again dalvik/art cache. And i cant access the Menu at all. Like i said its like a "First Time" Setup and i cant skip it. It just wants to search for Updates and it doesnt go away.
EDIT: I tried to restart the phone. In the left Up corner it say: Waranty something about Kernel in yellow. And the Boot time takes some time longer. But it starts without a problem. But still i cant skip past the "Checking for updates" sequence.

Wipe everything again
Flash rom zip only
Boot the rom
Go back into recovery mode
Flash gapps and magisk
Restart
Or you can manually disable the welcome screen by editing the build.prop
It's probably a rom thing but since I don't use it I can't advise further
If you can't get it working use the official lineage os 15.1 rom instead
https://download.lineageos.org/klte
Flash process is as I originally wrote
Also make sure you are using the latest bootloader & modem
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904022979
Put that file in AP section of odin and flash it (phone in download mode)

Alright so i flashed the rom only and started it. Works without a single Problem. So i guess maybe its something with the Google Apps. But now i installed Google Apps without Magisk and it works too. But when i want to open Google Play Store it just tells me: Google Play Services keeps stopping. So is it something with the MindTheGapps? I used this version: MindTheGapps-8.1.0-x86-20180808_153917
IMPORTANT EDIT!!! :
So i tried Lineage OS as suggested. Same problem. Google Play Services stopped working. So its 100% a Google Apps problem at least i think so. Any idea how to fix this? Tried MindTheGapps x86. OpenGapps on DotOS site with Arm64 then it failed and told me to use for my device the ARM version. Good installed that. Worked but there also Google Play Services stopped working. So what is the problem here? Also i used that Bootloader & Modem thing so i use the latest of these things.

Sorry my mistake - I got confused over which gapps you were selecting
I thought you were talking about 64bit or 32bit arm
It should be arm not x86
Use this one
Just wipe everything and flash again as per original instructions but use this gapps zip

As long as you wiped system data and cache and then flashed the rom zip & the arm gapps no reason why it would
You can always format data instead (option on right of to advanced wipe) but make sure you transfer anything on internal storage you need to keep to pc first)
You can always try OpenGapps instead
Arm 8.1 nano

I got it managed to install with APK my usual Stuff like Chrome, Discord and stuff. And it works. So no complains. I just have to use apks from now on then. But better than nothing i guess. Still strange that those Gapps wont work....

Which version of Gapps? I tried installing PICO or nano (ARM / 10). Both failed - either no space in partition or the package is not the correct version for this OS. Please help.

Hello, on Mi3w Data(f2fs)
First I installed rom, then wipe cahed and dalvik, then reboot to recovery.
Next I tried "BiTGApps-arm-10.0.0-v0.6_signed.zip" but failed sdk version.
Then I tried "open_gapps-arm-10.0-pico-20201204.zip" and no errors at first try. so I wiped cache and dal and reboot again then flashed "Magisk_20.4"
And boot to system.
Reminder, skip pin entering after selecting 3 lock options. face unlock feature crashing and will NOT end SETUP.
BTW this is Great! Thanks! my first exp on AndroidQ.

Now I tried
flashing Rom and Gapps(pico) then Wipe Cache and Dalvik
then reboot to recovery then flash Magisk 20.4
(Optional Reboot to recovery I wiped Dalvik, Cache, Data, including Internal Storage.
Then I reboot to recovery again, because my recovery setting will reset after wiping internal storage)
Now reboot to SYSTEM
SETUP REMINDER! (My Mi3w) Face Unlock CRASHING and will NOT end SETUP.
To be safe I did (no sim inserted) Skip Data and Wifi.
Selected "FaceUnlock+Pin" (DO NOT ENTER PIN) "Skip" setup everything later.

[ROM] How to install any GSI rom on Samsung Galaxy A10. {thanks to thewh1teagle}

THANKS TO THEWH1TEAGLE FOR THE METHOD!! ALL CREDITS TO HIM!
Let's get started.
You will need:
TWRP (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a10/how-to/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-a10-install-t4074343).
GSI rom (https://sourceforge.net/projects/expressluke-gsis/files/) (it will be in a compressed folder, you have to extract and move the .img file to your SD Card.) [HAS TO BE A64AB]
A brain.
Installing the GSI rom...
Reboot into TWRP recovery.
Go to Wipe > Format Data > Type in "yes" > Tap the check icon on the keyboard and wait.
Go back to Wipe > Then to Advanced Wipe > And select "Dalvik / ART Cache", "Cache", and "Data".
After that's done, go to install and select Install Image and find your .img rom you downloaded.
Tap on it and select "System Image".
Then after the installation is complete, go to Wipe > Swipe to Factory Reset (at the bottom).
If your rom does not include Gapps (which it probably won't) then install it now.
Then reboot your device and enjoy!
anyone tested it ?

I tried this yesterday on numerous ROM's from ExpressLuke's GSI's and was unable to get it working. The closest I got was LineageOS 16 and Resurrection Remix v7 boot animations but they never ended or got anywhere. I don't know much about android flashing, custom roms etc. but I followed instructions carefully. It would be helpful to gather some logs but I don't know how I can do that with Lineage and RR.
It possibly could be something to do with not clearing the phone properly, but I had done this numerous times in TWRP Recovery. There was also a step in afaneh92's post where he explained the internal storage was unreadable until you installed samsung-multidisabler and so this has been an issue in the past.
Also, my variant is the international variant (SM-A105FN) where the only difference from it's brother (SM-A105F) is that the international variant has dual sim slots, this will be my next step into trying to get RR or LineageOS to work, to remove my second sim.
There is not a problem with the model as I am using the same model.
Can you tell me the gapps package you are using?
I am pretty sure I know the problem..

Simply edit the message. I stuck at bootloop after I followed your steps. So screen dms then it reboots. Screen dims again then it reboots. It did that for about infinity times. Before I gave up and installed lineage 18 again.
