Need some help to turn off Encryption - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Howdy, so I have been a member of the forums for quite awhile, and I just got this Moto G5 from swappa in the mail today and I am having a wee bit of probs with it. I was able to set it up no prob on the stock firmware and took the most recent software update that addressed the KRACK issue, however I noticed under security that Encryption is turned on and I have no option to turn it off. I may need to replace stock recovery first and try to send a command to it like adb shell recovery --wipe_data --set_filesystem_encryption=off which did not work thru twrp at all sadly, also I have tried to fastboot erase userdata which does in fact erase the data but once I go back into the rom and I skipped the fingerprint and locks etc the encryption stays on, does anyone know of some way to turn it off as I want to use multirom and keep the stock as primary in case I have probs and since twrp cant access the data folder like this i dunno if I should even try to run multirom at all, should i maybe root first I did not flash magisk yet? Any help would be awesome and appreciated as always I am sure someone on this forum knows exactly what to do thanks for your time.

Well update here I ultimately did more digging to find on an old post in which the download links were dead a spanish speaking dude tried to explain it in english best as he could, eventually found the links to a zip you flash after twrp to allow for workaround on the dm-verity checks etc flashed that then rebooted to system turned off without setting up then went back to twrp and swiped for system mods then flashed my rom and when it prompts to have you install the twrp app in system just choose no or at least not in system then it should go head and boot into your rom.

[HELP] Phone won't boot after update

Hey so when I received my phone I set up everything like normal person does on the latest OTA(at that time 4.5.2) and removed encryption, today I decided to install latest OTA but for some reason after flashing full zip in twrp it refuses to boot, all I can see is OnePlus logo
Does anyone else have same issue or atleast know what can be the problem ?
I even tried to look on the log but I didn't see anything
Log is here
Edit1: I tried to do a lot of backups/restore and my phone now refuses to boot even from backup that was working before..
Edit2: Going into bootloader and using fastboot format userdata made me install latest ota

Fingerprint scanner verification mode not working (?)

Hello guys !
I was rocking OOS 4.5.3 with TWRP and root all fine, and I tried some dualboot stuff that I saw here on XDA (plot twist, don't try it) and then I ran into issues
I managed to reinstall the rom fine, but at the reboot, my fingerprint sensor wasn't picking up my fingers
I found out that when I try to register a fingerprint, it works fine, untill the last step where it stop picking my finger (not even vibrates)
I also noticed that it's impossible to delete a stored fingerprint
Any ideas ?

On man I'm in totally the same situation with you! I tried that dualboot too and stuck in boot screen, so i flashed the original rom zip and managed to boot well but the fingerprint isn't working any more......:crying:waiting for solutions
Okay, now that I woke up I will try to do a data wipe, I'll tell you about it, please do tell me if you find something
I'm also unable to activate wifi
Sounds like a good question for the dual boot thread.
If I remember right from previous threads about dual boot on other devices is, you should delete your original fingerprint or set it up as no lock before doing all the stuff with dual boot. I might be wrong.

Well, can't see where it is listed in the instructions, but thankfully this issue is nothing a full wipe can't fix

It's not, it was just a user having that issue on a Nexus 6P. Reset should fix. Set it up without a lock on it, then you should be able to set up fingerprints for each rom.
Thinking about. It, that sounds like a lot of hassle if you just want to try out different roms quickly.

I did not do this dual boot but I ran into WiFi not activating (endless searching for a WiFi access point), but I was able to fix it. Your probably uninterested in how I got into the situation but I fixed it with a previous nandroid backup done with one of the earlier versions of TWRP. Here are the steps that recovered WiFi:
Using TWRP, advance wipe Dalvik & Cache
Restore from a nandroid backup (OOS v4.5.2 in this case) ONLY system & /System
Reboot into the system and ignore TWRP's no OS warning
Using TWRP, advance wipe Dalvik & Cache
Reboot back into TWRP recovery and flash the Full v4.5.5 OTA file (~1.6GB) AND flash root (e.g. SuperSU)
Clear Dalvik&Cache and reboot into the system
After I did that everything return back to normal including the WiFI issue. The fingerprint scanner is working normally and I never lost any data what so ever.

ATTEMPT OF ROOT spiral into Madness

Original thread "https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/root-op5-twrp-dissaster.742632/"
Video of current STATUS "https://youtu.be/GBWbid59f1E"
Current state of my problem -- STUCK in a screen at Drive Screen "an empty modal opens" Also looking for -- OnePlus 5 OxygenOS 4.5.15 rom --
OP5 EUROPE (if this helps to know what kind of phone I got, I know there are some differences in countries, dont know if it happens with OP specifically)
Currently trying to fix this using:
twrp-3.2.1-0
OnePlus5 Oxygen 4.5.15
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After reading plenty of other Threads with similar problems, I am clueless of whatelse to do but to exhibit how I disgraced my phone in hopes for somebody to help me.
I know I am 100% guilty of all that happened but I still somehow hope to get help.
Now the proper what happened.
After the purchase of some apps that seemed to encourage me to root my phone from Android Store, to get more features, I decided to give it a go.
So I got myself:
twrp-3.1.1-0
The Rom from Cyanogen
SuperSu v2.79-20
Granted myself access to booting and usb debugging after becoming a developer (granted by the university of tap your phone screen like a monkey smashing buttons, I figure this is even an inside joke from actual Devs)
I followed a tutorial that said next thing was installing twrp and stuffing my rom and my super su in my phone after rooting it, here is when things turn dark after installing the rom.
I saw my data was wiped and thought I had erased its memory, and instead of just putting back the things that I had to install I clicked on another tutorial of a had that had a similar problem (I can provide links later if requested).
In this tutorial the person, said that I should go to Advanced Settings -- WIPE and try and reformat my SYSTEM and my DATA, (heres when I wish my future-self would have come and stopped me because after this it all spiraled into madness)
After this happened my phone said I had no OS, so I didnt know what to do, I had no idea, I tried recovery mode but there was nothing to recover.. , I tried plenty of things really. reformating, downloading more ROMS , when I tried to install any of this Roms a new surprise awaited for me, my phone didnt know it was a OnePlus5 anymore it decided asume a misterious identity now he was " " instead.
I googled this, and a guy had a work around in wich I had to go into the rom and into the META-INF --COM -- google -- android -- updater-script
and inside this very archive delete the script that validated wich phone I had, this solution wouldnt work with any rom I had because they all said "updating the img was unsuccesful" at this point I was asking myself only one thing "WHAT IMAGE?!?!" a second ago there was no OS at all and now there was an image to update?.
I kept trying roms until one worked the stable official version, now I managed to install the rom rebooted, to find that the OS seems to have been installed, but.. when I introduce my pin things begin guetting funny again...
My SIM doesnt seem to be recognized its called "Slot 2" and when I enter the pin it and "SWIPE UP" as the phone suggests it gets stuck at a panel called "Drive".
I am guessing I am having an issue with the drivers but this is only a guess, I really have no Idea how to fix this, I tried to look up if somebody else was strugging with a FREEZE at DRIVE.
but it seems that nobody else fell into the spiral of foolishness I did, please help me find a way into a solution.
When I try to recover from the phone and install from "internal storage" doesnt allows me as there was no such thing.
use codeworkx twrp
Use a Keurig and just breathe
try flashing a twrp recovery. then boot to recovery. then push via adb a recent oneplus rom. then install the rom. then reboot to system and see if it is working.

HELP: Encryption Unsuccessful TB-X104F

I i had to reflash the firmware the correct one TB-X104F_S000024_180930_ROW_DCC. Anyway it wasn't booting at all before i flashed. Now it boots, shows the logo etc and constantly says Encryption unsuccessful!, so i reset it and factory reset it but nothing changes.
I have no idea where else to go, bootloader is locked and all i can do is flash the firmware. Would there be a way to remove this from the files within the firmware?. It seems like android is there in the background but i can't get away from that encryption unsuccessful screen!
Sorry if none of this makes sense.
Yo. I got the same tablet bro. Been trying to figure out a custom recovery for her. A stock ROM would be great to have and I haven't been able to find one anywhere. Might I inquire as to where you found yours? It would be a huge relief to know I can fix it if I break it lol.
encryption
If you download the Lenovo MOTO smart assistant from Lenovo support it has a resque option. I also used that to root my tb-x104f. It downloads the original everything and if you take the boot image from the file it downloads and replace it in one that has been modified from magisk it will rescue it and you will have root also thatd what I did with mine
same problem here, reflashed with stock rom. and not resloved

Did you fix this issue?
I am having the same problem.
Thanks
Same problem here (my error reads "Decryption unsuccesful", but I think it's the same as yours).
After a few tries, I believe that it is a problem with the internet connection. After the factory reset, if I skip the wifi connection step, it starts normally. And it is completely usable. I can load pdf documents or apks by the usb from a computer and it runs correctly. But whenever I try to set the wifi connection, it updates something and it causes the tablet that the next time I turn it off, I find the error on the picture when turning on. It asks for a password and no matter which password you enter, then it delivers this message.
In resume, right now it is a completely functional tablet if you NEVER connect it to the internet and load anything you need via usb or bluetooth.
I tried to reset it with Lenovo Smart Assistant, but the result is the same.
I am looking for custom roms to try if it's something about the stock rom, but I haven't found any. Can anyone reccomend me a rom for Lenovo E10 X104F 2GB?
Solution: (Worked for me)
Format Data as F2FS in TWRP. (Advanced Wipe)
Then reboot and wait.

nexus 7 toubles.

So I'm by no means a pro at this but I have never had to reach out for help when playing with my android OS. I mainly use that nexus root toolkit for things I need and it is what I know best.
nexus flo (second gen wifi)
So I put lineage 16 on my tablet. This was following this guide.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus7/comments/esy39y
all went well. Then I wanted to update to 18 and that also went well. I noticed the play store was missing so I tried to re install from the gapps zip in wtrp. That didn't work and following some apparently stupid advice. I selected wipe->format data. My os lost its debug option (can't get it back) and trp was busted (bootloops when entering it). So I tried to use the wipe data factory reset and start over but it blew out half way in to that and now I have no os. If I try to install my stock os I get an error 1 missing a binary. Advice there was to manual flash bootlimg and that didnt do jack. I can not flash lineage 18 as it claims I'm not a flo device. Anything I flash for that matter gives me one type of error or another.
I do not care about what is on the device I just want the device back so I can continue to enjoy learning and playing.
current issues:
1, can not boot in to recovery
2. can not boot in to OS
3. can not boot into bootloader
current options that I know of
1. I can use NRT and get in to wtrp
2. run fast boot commands
3. run abd
4. I do have an extra nexus 7 (2013) with a bad screen that I can get in to.
Any advice?
So turns out the bulk of my issues was I some how got a older twrp on there. Though still trying to get version 18.1 on there and currently bootlooping. Does anyone have a "current" guide for this?
So tried installing gapps, and figure maybe I need to run that clamor repartition. That seem to go ok, I did the modify command like it said to. And now it looks like I have nothing. I can even get the sdcard to show up on a pc. Do I need to mount my partitions somehow?
I'm still able to send files via adb but I'm not able to figure out what I need to fix this.
er,, ok nm, I fixed it by making the system xf4. Wiped everything and its back to clean. So what is the best way to get this done?
Going to move me issue to.
