TWRP and Magisk for US997? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

There are two unnoficial TWRP threads for the US997, one of which has a kernel attached with it (melina), and one that has a broken download link (thread by nima0003).
Magisk thread says not to install after installing a kernel, but to install magisk before.
Anyone get this working? Or am I going to have to stick with SuperSU instead?
Thanks
Edit: Got it working

For those who got problems with installation on v13.1 use the following guide it will help you all links below its from official sites not mirrors etc.
Steps for make sure you're not confused
1)reboot to twrp recovery or cwm
2)install magisk uninstaller zip
3)install unroot kenzo zip
4)install magisk v13.1
5) reboot device
6) install magisk manager if not installed automatically
7) attention before you use it keep your boot.img as a backup to restore it if you are not going to use a custom kernel read below the edit why thanks
Ps.worked perfectly on Nougat NOS release latest beta with radon kernel 5.1 hope to work on your ROM too
EDIT:When you use the nitrogen unroot zip in restore the nos kernel by Nougat version so on Miui and other ROMS of course if you dont use custom kernel take a backup of your current kernel just the boot part or just install the custom kernel like radon, agni after the whole steps etc sorry about that it just took me a while to find out cuz I just checked my kernel adiutor and I just saw the wild kernel of nitrogen on performance gov and it burned my hand almost xd
UPDATE:Try this unroot zip file first it doesn't going to mess with your kernel amd change it but if that doesn't work you have to do it with tge other way thanks for understanding :')

Rooting OREO (41.3.A.2.24)

I was waiting for a root enabler for oreo (41.3.A.2.24), and I could find https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-x-performance/how-to/guide-stock-kernel-root-twrp-drm-fix-41-t3711837.
But this link is for version 41.3.A.0.401 and it does not work for everybody including me.
Since androplus still didn't bring out a new version of his kernel I tried the method from the above link.
But I'm using newer versions than in the description, I use TWRP 3.2.0, Magisk manager 5.2.2 and Magisk 15.2.
I can install the new version, twrp, the new boor image and Magisk 15.2.
I can boot and Magisk runs but the Safetynet control failes and Magisk does not enable root.
On the installation of the boot image, twrp and magisk I got some messages (marked in red)
unable to mount storage
failed to mount
Before I tried with magisk manager 5.5.1 and magisk 15.1 but then I got stuck at boot time at the sony logo.
Does anybody have a way to root Oreo (the latest version), enable DRM and enable root?
Ok I started all over again and I noticed I didn't follow the procedure first time.
So I excluded the FOTA kernel but whatever else I check no full wipe is done, I can always see the previous installed apps, it does not matter if I check Cust-reset, master-reset or reset-wipe-reason, the system is not wiped.
So that's my first problem, how to wipe the previous install.
Flashing the rom seems to be OK, same thing for flashing boot_oreo.img and twrp-3.1.1-0-dora.img.
I'm not sure about twrp 3.2.0.0 because this version is off-line now, so I tried with TWRP 3.1.1.0 and 3.2.1.0 but they all gave me the same result.
Problems start when I have to flash drmfix.zip, safety-net cleaner or magisk 15.2. The procedure tells me the flash is ok but have a look at thet attached images, I get errors while flashing. One picture for drmfix, one for safety-net-cleaner and one for magisk 15.2
After flashing all of this I can boot successfully but when I try to get root in ES File Explorer pro, it does not work. When I go into Magisk and try the afety-net check I get ctsProfile false and basicIntegrity False.
So the rom does work but I do not get root.
I tried all of this with the Italian rom 41.3.A.2.24.R1E ? I can start all over again with the UK version 41.3.A.2.24.R2E but I do not know if this makes any sense.
So can anybody tell me what to do to get it all going?

1 - Do use always Adrian DC latest fully working TWRP build for dora.
2 - You don't need a 3rd party kernel to achieve that, instead, you can easily create your own one, based always on stock kernel!
Thats the SELinux's problem.
Flash this first then flash magisk

Perhaps you could post in the Magisk part of the forums with some info about your device and see if someone could help.

This is a magisk issue and shouldn't be posted here
Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
I had the same problem till I went to twrp recovery and flashed the zip that magisk downloaded and it works great. Only problem left on the side is trying to get Xposed to work again through the new magisk on H918 Super Rom, it's not working ATM but I think it's fixable somehow I guess. Magisk is effecting all phones, not just V20 btw.
Check out the video about the API and safetynet by the YouTuber HighOnAndroid. That video let's u know what's up with magisk the day before new magisk update came.
Is it possible that someone backup and share with me boot partition, and from my side I recover it ?!
I'm running:
ROM: RR-0-v6.1.0-h990-Unofficial
Kernel: Gamma Kernel v26.0.0
Magisk: v17.1
Magisk Manager: v5.9.1
I'm not on stock, but i had no error or problems installing it.
Are you on stock or?
I was able to directly install Magisk 17.1 from Magisk itself without issues.

Have you tried another kernel?
Anyone could test sixaxis compatibility checker?
(free on store)
Only on h990ds. 910 and other never were affected by this problem with previous magisk.
Dont know if v17 solved this problem.
Thanks

Tried D.O.T.S and failed, bootloop
I am thinking if someone can backup the boot and share it with us. So we can recover it
Regards..
Has anyone found a way to make 17.1 work on the H990DS? It took me several flashes to get it to boot but after a couple restarts it started bootlooping again so I had to downgrade to 16 and 16 works just fine
Just stay on v16 until they can work the bugs out with v17 -- you aren't gaining anything by going to v17.

Root and Magisk

History:
After I change the kernel I lost the root! Then I tried to update the Magisk to version 18 and the Magisk Manager to a most recent version that I don't remember its version.... But my phone continued without root.
Trying to solve this again I install Magisk 16.3 and Magisk Manager 5.6.4 downloading and installing the files available in this link: https://www.stechguide.com/download-magisk-v16-3/
Without success too!
-
So, darlings.
I'm asking for a tutorial to uninstall all the Magisk things of my phone (if you experts think it is necessary) and I'm asking for a tutorial to root again my phone with Magisk.
And I'm also asking to know the latest STABLE version of Magisk and of Magisk Manager COMPATIBLE with my phone and that will work well!
I have a Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9005) with [ROM][C9 Pro Port][N900X] AspireTeam C9 Pro v5.0 [18.5.18][Aroma/Smooth/Modded] installed.
Thank you so much!!!

First, Magisk is one of the most documented tools on xda, has its own official forum and especialy its official releases on GitHub (where all versions are available). It's useless to get it elsewhere.
Second, Magisk will only do his magic on an already flashed kernel. If you flash kernel after Magisk, you won't get root.
Third, Magisk flashable zip contains the corresponding Manager and will inject it systematically.
Finaly, you need TWRP for a successful flash of Magisk. With other custom recoveries, errors like "can't find the boot image" can happens.
Now, for a complete removal of Magisk from the system, you only have to flash the latest official uninstaller.
After reboot, go to recovery, flash your prefered kernel then flash Magisk. The latest stable version is v18 and will work well on your rom.

Magisk and TWRP together in recovery? I am missing some knowledge ...

Yesterday I followed this instruction:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s5e/how-to/galaxy-tab-s5e-sm-t720-root-t3947806
and got my Tablet rooted by Magisk with stock ROM.
Next: I want LinageOs on this device, so I had to install TWRP. For TWRP I followed the links on top of the mentioned XDA-thread:
Go HERE if you are interested in custom recovery (e.g., TWRP).
Click to collapse
which got me to this page:
https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxytabs5ewifi.html
There is this advice:
You are therefore strongly advised to first root your device with Magisk and then pre-root a TWRP image before flashing it to recovery.

I followed the link in this advice an read both 3 times, but I am not sure, what this means.
Next was wiki.lineageos-page for the TAB S5e:
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/gts4lvwifi/install
which I also read, but none the wiser. And for more confusing: in the suitable download-page is besides the linage-file a recovery-image, which is not mentioned anywhere. Or I am blind ...
What I at least did: installed TWRP with the TWRP-app and could boot into this custom recorery and installed LineageOS. The Tab S5 is running fine with LinaegeOS but without root ...
What must be done to root?
Spielmops
I flashed the default TWRP into recovery, installed LineageOS from TWRP, and then followed these instructions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/how-to/install-magisk-android-11-r-100-t4162761
I have working installation of TWRP and Magisk now.
If your device does not have ramdisk in boot images, Magisk has no choice but to be installed in the recovery partition. ... When Magisk is installed in your recovery, you CANNOT use custom recoveries to install/upgrade Magisk! The only way to install/upgrade Magisk is through Magisk Manager. The app will be aware of your device state and install to the correct partition and reboot into the correct mode.

All I can tell you is that I didn't preroot anything. (My device is the LTE variant, but I think it doesn't matter other than needing the correct TWRP and Lineage image).
I started with a stock ROM and locked bootloader.
Unlocked the bootloader and installed the current TWRP image via ODIN (In my case, this one: https://dl.twrp.me/gts4lv/, you will want this: https://dl.twrp.me/gts4lvwifi/).
Installed LineageOS 18.0 and GApps through TWRP sideload.
Booted and set up Lineage.
Downloaded the three files from the thread I linked. Installed them and rebooted in the order given.
Finally, updated Magisk Manager and Magisk to the Beta-Channel (21.1) through Magisk Manager.
Done. I have root.

Right here in the ROMs section.
Obligatory disclaimer: LOS 18 is still a preview and more likely to have bugs than 17.1, but I'm more than happy with it so far.
@topjohnwu
Can you tell anything to this problem? I've read this:
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root
Spielmops
I've installed Lineage a few times now on this devices, and I always use the developers instructions here. Then I flash Magisk from TWRP. If you are using LOS 17.1, I just flash it in TWRP. Modules and such can NOT be flashed in TWRP your tablet will not BOOT.
The only version of Magisk that I've found that works in LOS 18 / Android 11 is 297. Links in this post.
