Gmail LED notification not working - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

After upgrading to the latest firmware version the LED notification works much better than previous versions, except for Gmail. Notification from Gmail in general works fine but without LED light. Does anybody have the same issue?

Yes, notification is turned on as well as Allow notification dot. The notification text is working fine. Just the LED light is not. LED light for other apps like calendar, missed calls, SMS are working fine.

Thanks! Googled an article about inbox too. Looks like a good upgrade to Gmail app.

That is the stupidest app Google ever invented. An email app where you can't mark messages as read. And if you mark them as "done", they are deleted from Inbox. Not sure how anyone could ever use that app.

I mark things read and done all the time...
I use my email as a reference for work... So I'm not sure... But this sounds like a prime example of user error

I don't understand. I use Gmail app all the time. I can mark an email as unread or read. There is a menu choice for that.

The Inbox app is different from the Gmail app.

Any gmail apps that let you change trackball alert color?

I read that 2.2 lets developers add this functionality into their apps. I tried Gmail Notifier by Jonas Larsson and Trackball Alert but neither change the trackball color when I click on the test notification button. I'm currently using SMS Popup to change the Messaging trackball alerts. Now I'm looking for something similar for Gmail. Thanks.
in trackball alert did you click Settings->Patch CM5?
edit: nevermind, it apparently isn't working for 2.2 yet

I don't see anything like that (I don't have Cyanogenmod by the way. Using rooted version of 2.2). There's...
Settings -> Alerts -> SMS/MMS, Email, Phone, Twitter
OR
Settings -> Advanced -> Framework debug, Application debug, and Bypass framework check (I tried checking Bypass framework check but it didn't help when I clicked on test notification)

Sorry, I think its actually below Settings when you click menu. Lil hermit doesn't have it working for 2.2 yet, shouldn't be long that app is fantastic
gmail notifier is working for me on Froyo, I have it set to yellow.

Hmmm.. This is weird. I changed it to yellow and it worked for a test email I sent. Then I sent another and it stopped working. I changed it to red and it doesn't work either. Not sure how I got it to work once but not all the time. that tells me that the app is capable of doing it.
It works with test notifications in Gmail notifier for me too.
But when recieving a mail, I don't get any notification.
If I enable notifications in the Gmail app, I get the classic gmail notification and not the Gmail Notifier one.
If I disable notifications in Gmail, I don't get the Gmail Notifiers one when I get a new mail. :/
How did you configure it Danimar?
well I did try it with the test notification, not with a real mail. Sorry about getting your hopes high if you say that it only works in test mode

Well, maybe Gmail notifier is not yet compatible with the Gmail app included in Froyo, so it won't detect gmail notifications correctly.
It's just a guess though.
so what we are all saying here is that currently there is no app that does this without root?

I'm rooted and these apps don't work for me. Pretty sure they just need updated to 2.2. 2.2 supports trackball colors but the devs need to update their apps.

Well, Gmail Notifier handle very well the trackball color, but actually it looks like it can't handle the notifications from the updated gmail app in Froyo.
For SMS, SMS PopUp works perfectly fine for notifications and you can change the trackball color.

You might be right. I already use SMS Popup too and it was never updated to 2.2 yet I can change trackball colors so I'm thinking something changed with Gmail so all the Gmail apps might have to be updated for it.
For anyone trying this out on Froyo - the test notification would only worked for me after I switched off the screen. I was frustrated before I figured that out, but now I'm captivated by the glowing blue light

Did the trackball color work for you when you received an email with the screen off? I tried but it never worked.
Nope, it didn't, but I was just happy to see coloured lights at all since I couldn't get it working with chompSMS yesterday.
Gmail Notifier works great on Froyo.
As others have pointed out, it just doesn't work when the screen is on.
Also, you HAVE TO TURN OFF the native gmail notifications otherwise it notifies with a white color and there is no succession to whatever you have set with Gmail Notifier.
I have 5 accounts working with different colors on N1 Froyo.
Hope this helps.

Weird, wasn't working when I tried 1 hour ago. :/ Setting the notifications in gmail notifier, disabling gmail app notification, and I had no notifications when I get a new mail. :/
oops I just realized I am using a beta .apk. I am sure the update will be pushed out soon.

got it as well, do u know how to get vibration options to work?

[Q] How do I disable vibrate on notifications?

I know i'm over looking something very simple. I see an option to disable vibrate for calls, but do not see anything for notifications.
TIA gents.
i didnt see it either.
I think they are in the individual apps. Like for SMS, there is a vibrate notification option in the settings of the SMS app itself.

Cool. I searched for hours trying to find out how to do that, lol. I guess that what happens when you're coming from WinMo.
Because it is clearly too much to expect google to make it as easy as windows or an iphone.
For this, and also for alarms, for selecting text, for clicking on phone numbers and urls (not all of which work) in email and calendar entries, etc.
I would be very surprised if froyo fixes any of this.
Maybe the googlies made too much money on the stock that they simply don't care because they already own iphones.
end of rant.

SMS notification bug since update!

Hello
Yesterday I updated the new firmware and since several hours I have a really big problem.
Every second SMS does not have a notification, sometimes it vibrates but there is no notification in the statusbar. So I have to open the SMS-App to see if I have a new SMS.
This really sucks! Anyone else with this problem?

Your problem is to do with text notifications not working properly after the OTA update. The thread I have given you discusses problems about the notifications not working properly after the OTA update. You can just post in there about your problem instead of creating a whole new thread.
same problem here.
Got the same problem as well. And It's about every second sms or so. So damn annoying

it's not a bug with the firmware exactly, but rather the Messaging app. So if you download another sms app the problem will be solved. Im using Go SMS right now and no missed notifications yet. Just dont forget to disable notifications with HTC's app if you plan on getting another from the market, or you'll get 2 notifications for some messages
Yes - I also have this issue.

GO into the "Messages" app then press the menu softkey, then press settings.
This is where all of your notifications are controlled for the messages app.

Double email notifications?

I've asked multiple people about this and haven't been able to find the answer. Everytime I get an email I get two notifications one with the yahoo icon and then the red one with the @ sign. I go under accounts and under motoblur accounts it shows the @ icon and shows my email address. I use yahoo. When I press on that it doesn't let me change the username but let's me put in a password yet I can't remove that account. Basically, how do I stop from getting double notifications
Settings- data manager- data delivey- email and corprate sync- notifications...
Uncheck notifications.
That will get rid of the red one with [email protected] sign.
(Thanks are welcome if that fixed it for you. )
Ill get back with you to let you know how that worked
Need hotmail notifications
I'm also having an email notifications issue. It's a little different but I don't think it needs it own thread.
I use hotmail instead of Gmail, but my launcher pro mail icon won't show the number of emails. It works fine for text messages, just not my hotmail. I am getting a notification on my top bar, I just want to be able to quickly see the number. I'm really new to Android so it's probably an easy fix that I am just overlooking.

I had a similar problem, where I kept getting dual notifications. I fixed it by uninstalling the beautiful widgets addon pack.

Hm interesting because I do have that addon installed? Now what exactly were your problems? Would you get the y! And the @ notification each time you got emails?
I'm GreyBlured!
Sorry it took so long for me to post. When I had the beautiful Widgets pack, I would get double notifications for everything, email and text. The fact that you have the y! means that its a yahoo email. So either it's the Widgets or you may have a yahoo email app that's also notifying you.

Text Message Notifications on Lockscreen does not show who it is from

Does any one know how to change the text message settings to make it so the notification on the lock screen shows it is from and what the message is?

Dont know about that. Maybe samsung intended it that way for privacy reasons..or so i guess(although i dont get the point as rest of the apps can show full details there).
My tab3 does not show the sender/contents of the message. Just says <count> messages received..not quite useful.

The good news that I was able to switch to stock, make the change, and move back to Hangouts. The bad news is that the setting didn't carry over.
