I have a new Rock64 for which I have installed ayufan's Android TV build v0.3.4, but I think this question is probably applicable to a lot of other situations.
My system is booting of an SD card that is formatted with an android_meta and an android_expand partition. This setup is the same as that used by "adopted" storage, where the disk is encrypted and the key lives on the phone. If you have root on the phone, you can dump the key, and use it to mount the android_expand partition as described here. The difference is, on this card, I *know* the key is stored on the card itself, presumably in the android_meta partition, because this bootable card is the only storage device in the system.
Since the system *isn't* rooted, and I haven't got a USB A to A cable around for ADB, I want to mount the card in Linux and manually drop in an su and/or tinker with the system files.
How do I get the key off of the card, in the same way that the Android system does during its boot process, so that I can decrypt and mount the main android_expand partition?
More broadly, what, exactly, is the format of an android_meta partition? Is it ext4 or FAT or something special? I dumped it, and from running strings it looks like there's a whole bootloader in there.

Hello to everybody,
i have an 8 gb micro sd card in my htc hd2 with an ext4 partition that works with a nand rom. Now i would like to have a 16 gb sd card and i would like to copy all the exact content of my 8 gb card on the new one including the ext4 partition with all the files i have in it so i don't have to reset my hd2 and reinstall everything. I hope somebody can help me. I'm running on win vista.
Thanks
me too
I want to know how to copy that partition
thanks..
Geez. Nobody? We have some really bright people on this forum and I'm looking for the same thing.
Before people jump all over me for commenting on a thread that hasn't received a post in over one month....had there been an answer posted, I wouldn't have replied
download a linux boot disk image, ubuntu or something. boot your pc to it in live disk mode, and it can see both your sd card partitions, and copy to/from them. you can use it to partition up the new card with ext4 and fat32 too.
So create your new disk, with empty partitions, and just copy the stuff across. the phone wont know any different.
if memory serves, when you plug in the phone in hard disk mode, the partitions appear after a short while on your desktop as two seperate drives, , if you right click one, choose format(DON'T CLICK OK!) or maybe properties, it will bring up a box, choose disk tools button ((i think, its turned off at the mo, cant check)) and it will give you all the tools you want to create, edit, move resize partitions in fat32 and ext2/3/4.
Even easier...
-Backup your ROM using CWM,
-Create a folder on your computer and copy all the files from the SDcard to the folder (from here on "back-up" will be used to refer to this folder).
-Partition your sdcard with ext4 partition however you want
-Copy contents of "back-up" back to the sdcard
-Use CWM restore function to restore including ext4 partition
Simple and easy.
Hey guys,
I decided to setup my sd card today cause my phone internal memory was constantly running out. I followed the stickies on how to partition the SD using EASEUS. After I partitioned the app2sd partition, i booted up my phone. The phone says there is no sd card. So i rebooted the phone and mount my SD card through recoverymod. I can still see my sd card and files inside of it, but it only has 7GB left instead of 8GB. EASEUS too only detects only one partition of 7GB. Other then mounting the storage through recoverymod's Mounting USB Storage, the sd card cant be mounted anywhere else. Recoverymod shows Error: failed to mount /sdcard for all functions that require the sd card.
Has anyone came across this problem and fixed it ?

It seems that your sdcard is corrupted.
Try to backup all data and reformat all partitions in linux
Windows can't recognize second partition on sdcard & it can sometimes mess up the partition.
Try GParted (google it).

I tried browsing my SD card through GParted ( linux version and boot cd version), and all of them shows only 1 partition of 7gbs. One G is still missing and sd card still fails to work .

Did you make a backup of your sd before creating the sd ext partition
? Should be written in each tutorial concerning sd ext creation.
Otherwise your data is no more.
As already written, windows is not able to read a sd ext partition. its fully right, that your fat32 partition shows only 7gb, the other 1gb is used from the sd ext and not viewable by windows.
...to create a sd-ext very easy go into cwm-advanced-format sd card and chose 1gb ext 0 swap.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App

Try this :
Backup all data in your micro SD.
Open & boot your computer using Gparted Linux / Parted Magic Linux / any other linux that has GParted / Parted inside its LiveCD
Run Gparted.
Delete all partitions.
Options:
Create sd-ext partition using GParted :
Create 1 fat32 Partition (as Primary) & adjust the size to your liking
Create 1 ext3/ext4 (as Primary...check if your android kernel support ext4) & adjust the size to your liking (usually 1 - 2 GB is enough)
Create sd-ext partition using CW Recovery:
Create fat32 Partition (as Primary...use all space)
Boot HD2 into AD Recovery
Go to Advanced menu
Format & choose sd-ext partition options
Flash your fav. ROM
Notes:
I personally like Parted better than GParted as it's a lot quicker & more advanced options (GParted is only a front-end for Parted).
Parted is for advanced user & TUI.
If you want to try Parted, make sure you read the manual & understand everything related to your actions (open console / terminal & type : man parted)
Use Parted using Root access (open console / terminal & type : sudo parted).
Use it with caution as it can wipe all of your hard drive data !
For more info about Parted try this link :

I've been successfully using the CM7/CM9 dual boot by Racks11479 detailed here since late January. Today I messed something up trying to update to the just released update zip for CM9 with Cornerstone. In trying to start over from scratch I wiped the SD card, repartitiond, reformatted and wrote the dualboot image again.
Both systems boot up just fine (CM7/CM9). However, in both Android is only reporting the storage for the 115mb boot partition. It does not recognize the partition with 11gb+ of free space which is the 7th partition created during the write.
I used the MiniTool Partition Wizard to allocate and size that last partition However, the NC does not show the space and I'm not able to copy any files to the storage partition in Windows.
Can anyone help?
If you have 115MB available then why said "I'm not able to copy any files to the storage partition"? Not even 1MB .txt file?
If you meant "files" in your sentence were those CM7/CM9 created by the author then, you should copy them into the ROOT folder of the uSD card, not the BOOT partition.
Hi all.
I was given an HD2 running CM7 off NAND. It has a 2gb SD card in there, with around 400mb as ext3/ext4 partition.
I want to swap the 2gb for an 8gb card. Having not installed the ROM myself (and am not too familar with the process on the HD2), I'm unsure how to proceed.
Are there any files on the SD card that are likely to be needed for booting?
Can I just stick the new card in, use recovery to partition it and then remove the card - copy the old ext3/ext4 partition data over and it'll be happy?
Do I need to use recovery, can I just a Linux box to do that instead?

assuming you don't have a linux pc that can read ext partitions, id do it this way..
into cwm - full backup.
2gb card into card reader (or mount usb storage in android - or 'mounts and storage - mount sd card' in cwm) - copy off your whole fat32 partition - make sure you have hidden files set to show in windows explorer.
8gb card into phone, back into cwm, create the new ext partition.
8gb card back into card reader (or mounts and storage - mount sd card in cwm) and copy the fat 32 stuff back to the card.
into cwm - restore - advanced restore - restore the sd-ext partition only.
Thanks for the reply.
I do have a Linux PC to hand, and the HD2 doesn't have CWM on it.
So in the end, I used GParted to create a partition table that looked like the existing card and then copied the contents of the old card over. Phone booted up fine
Hi! Successfully rooted my Nook ST using Nook Manager, except I used a 32 GB micro SD card to do the rooting. After rooting, I ended up with two partitions on the SD card, Nook (239 MB) and Nook Manager (62.9 MB). I was wondering what I need to do to be able to utilize the rest of the space on the card? The reason I bought a 32 GB card was so I could store all my sideloaded books there, and now I find I'm just limited to the space/partitions showing up when I connect the nook via USB.
You need to repartition your card.
Partition Magic can do that.
If you want to use multiple partitions on the SD card (like 2 x 16 GB) you might want to look at:

Thanks, will download a copy of Partition Magic later. I really am completely clueless when it comes to programming though. In fact, I'm only here because the folks at mobileread told me I'd probably have better luck having my question/s answered here than there. So just to confirm, I can repartition the drive using partition magic so I'll have one extra partition for the books I want to sideload, and I'm good to go already when I re-insert the SD card into the Nook? Or do I have to attempt the code that you gave in the thread you linked?
If you want to have a single FAT partition on your SD card you can do that without much change.
It comes down to whether you want to be able to pull the SD card and plug it into random desktops and things.
If you want to have multiple partitions or ext3 partitions you will have to use the new vold in the link above.
if used windows 7,8. Insert a memory card into the card reader. Go to cmd(administrator mode) and run command:
Diskpart
List Disk
Select Disk 1 (#select sdcard)
clean (#clean partition sdcard)
create partition primary
active
format fs=fat32 quick
assign (#run command if not view sdcard in mycomputer )
Renate, I tried to repartition my SD card, but got a "disk is not formatted, do you want to format it now?" message. So I had no choice but to do a data recovery using EaseUs Partition Master first, then went ahead and clicked format now. Then I tried using Minitool Partition Wizard (couldn't find a free version of Partition Magic) to create new partitions in the formatted SD card so that the NookManager partition would be larger (27 GB) while the NookBackup partition would be 2 GB. Except that I can't seem to create any new partitions at all. And I also have no idea how to restore the data I'd backed up earlier either.
Sorry, I missed seeing this come up when you posted it.
When your Nook asks you if you want to format you should say "No!".
It could be that it misidentified the situation.
In any case, you want to look closer before formatting anything.
Here's a gotcha.
If you are using ext3 and the internal clock has reset itself then the last mount will be in the future.
That makes things angry. Check that the date/time on the Nook is correct.
You can use gparted to give the card the partition layout you need (i.e. first NookManager partition is big, second NookBackup partition is only large enough to hold a backup), then write the first partition from NookManager.img into first partition of the card (you need to do something roughly similar to this. Then you can use gparted to set the "boot" flag on the first partition and use the card to backup&root your Nook. Then remove the "boot" flag, and keep using the card for storage (it's a bit messy to have both user&app files AND NookManager boot files in the same place, but if you only have one card, then this is inevitable - i haven't found a way to mount the second or the third partitions from the card). The card will act as normal storage device when flag is not set, and as NookManager bootable card when flag is set.
