Unlocking and Edge Lightning - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi everyone.
I have two questions I hope someone can answer:
I got locked after some flashes so now I installed the Oreo CRB7 Samsung Official FW provided in one thread of this Forum, and will be waiting the 7 days period. My only question is that running the official FW, I can't use SHealth because it says that my phone is rooted. Is this a consequence of been locked or am I doing something wrong with the FW? I want to avoid going on for 7 days in vane haha
On the other hand I can't find the way to make edge lightning work when the screen is off, for example with WhatsApp. I enable all the notifications options everywhere but Its still not working. The only thing that make the light on is the SMS Message app. I could make the Whatsapp worked ONLY enabling the popup notification inside the notification panel of Whatsapp, but I dont want to see that window everytime I get a message. Anyone could make it work ?
Thanks a lot!

S-health usually gives that error if Knox has been tripped, have you ever run custom roms at any point?
To make changes to edge notification you need to go into edge screen setting, settings-display-edge screen-edge lighting- manage notification

Thanks for the answer. Yes I had an s6 and did everything to it. I'm new with the S8 and found this oreo update and too many different threads with different flashing instructions so I got confused a bit.
I always run custom ROM with the S6 but never had that issue with SHealth, that's why it surprised me.
And I did those steps with the lightning but somehow it seems it doesn't want to work

Custom roms and kernels fake Knox, if you are running complete stock firmware then s-health will never work.

downgrade confirmation

hello guys
I have a sm-n900.....it came upgraded to kitkat in the box
although the performance of the phone is mind blowing but I feel it is a battery draimer......and also I read reviews on net that people with jellybean used to have their battery last more than one day with usual udage but in my case it is only upto 16-17 hrs
I thought of downgrading to jellybean and went to service cemtre where they told me that downgrading in not possible in note 3
I then searched at home and found it is bit complicated and if we do we may loose update to kitkat if we want afterwards
like in my earlier s2 (i9100) and note (n7000) I could flash any firmware anytime
but wat to do downgrade this to jellybean without loosing the possibilities of update to kitkat
plz someone
I know people are here having far big issues compared to mine
but I would be really happy is someone would guide me through this

The reason you are not getting any response is because this question has been asked 59 billion times a day since KK rolled out, and the other million plus members who are aware of it are restraining themselves through giant facepalms.
In short, no, there is no way to downgrade.

I rooted via CF-AutoRoot (as my signature indicates below) and there were no problems. For me, KitKat is working perfectly in every respect.
No, you cannot reset the Knox binary trigger. I could not possibly care any less about it at this point in time.
I plan to use the device until something better comes along, then sell it, so why worry about it?

You need to do some searching on the site. All these questions have answers that have been gone over and over.
Early 4.3 users could root their phone but Knox gets tripped. RDLV method worked then without tripping Knox up till MJ3 of 4.3. Anything above that as stock and Knox gets tripped. KitKat goes one step further in that you cannot revert to 4.3 at all, even if you are willing to trip Knox.
You can root the phone but AFAIK (I haven't bothered with KK - my phone runs brilliantly on v6 (4.3) Omega) you trip Knox anyway you do it.
Knox 0x1 may or may not doom your warranty - somecountries have laws that say Samsung cannot quirm out of hardware problems by claiming software changes. You may or may not care about Knox. Mine is a grey import from HK that I had all kinds of fun getting over to a non-freaky ROM, so when it eventually triggered Knox I didn't give a toss. I did root the phone with RDLV and changed ROMs several times before something that shouldn't have, tripped the Knox bit.
Now there is about as brief a history as you will get. Use what is in it to go search and find any more complete answers.
Always search before asking basic questions - at the least it means you will be able to ask intelligent questions, not ones you can find by looking at the titles of recent posts in Q&A forums.

They'd just boot to Download mode and see the Knox flag.
I don't care about it, honestly. If I ever need warranty assistance, I'd just hope for the best, but since it's Samsung, I'd expect the worst.

plz answer......I know I annoyed a lot.....but plz
You should be able to use another mode. When you connect via USB, swipe down the Notification bar and there should be a Notify there you can tap to choose other modes.
You might need to go into Build Number (Settings/About Phone) and tap 7 times to turn on Developer mode and then turn on USB Debug. (not sure as that's always one of the first things I do)
Unless you are the only person on the planet who sees a need for Knox, you don't need to DL anything to do with Knox. Check in Application Manager and see if you can turn all of it off.

Interesting question. Do you find you can easily sell your rooted/modified phones?
I'm always concerned that people won't want to buy a rooted phone that's potentially been flashed 100+ times with possible excessive CPU over-clocking etc. I always try to put the phone back to stock (or as close as possible) before I sell it on.
Is it just me who feels those concerns?

Well, in my region, the vast majority of buyers don't even know what root is, so it's never been an issue for me. I don't expect that to change anytime soon. The Note 3 doesn't show any issues at all when reflashed unless Knox flag is tripped. Even then, the only "issue" is the warranty bit flag shown in Download mode and the loss of Knox container, which almost nobody uses. Out of a 100 buyers, you might find one that knows what root is and less than that who know how to get to Download mode, and even fewer who'd potentially use Knox, so no, not a problem.

[Q] rooting and device encryption sm-n900

Greetings,
Yesterday I decided to root my Note 3 (sm-n900) mainly to remove samsung's bloatware and install afwall.
Just after I rooted my phone with Odin + "CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900" and went for the first reboot, I noticed that my phone wouldn't boot anymore. After some hair pulling, I decided to wipe the device and after that it booted fine.
Finally I managed to remove %[email protected]! Flipboard and My magazine (a lot of crashes with sms and regular email, but worth removing!). Total happiness and a faster phone!
When I tried to enable encryption on the device, the phone just crashed again (with the same droid logo that appeared on the boot before the wipe). I came here and found some other users talking about rooting + encryption with sm-n900 saying that it's not working. (some reported that kingo method would work, but I really don't feel comfortable with king).
Now I'm downloading the stock rom, and planning to flash the note3 back to original since I have the recipe for T virus on my phone and couldn't allow it to fall on wrong hands
Is this a bug on cf-auto-root or encryption doesn't work with rooting at all? If it's a bug, any ideas of when a fix should be around?
Thanks!
Hi eduardogsilva,
I don't know your device, but I encountered a problem activating encryption on a rooted SM-P900. I'm not sure, but I think it's a general problem with Samsung KitKat devices. I described, how I got it solved for my device here. If you still have issues, please have a look at my thread and let me know, if it works for you...
Cheers!

Hello radicalisto, following the guide that bruzzy wrote, I managed to activate the encryption on a rooted note3.
So I guess that it should be fine now... Or is there any other issues besides activating encryption?
thanks

It'll work, just not 100% - don't be surprised if one day it freaks out on you and doesn't let you unlock it. Happens sometimes, Although, it may be that it'll stay fine for you (luck of the draw) - with root being an exploit, the system is designed to look out for changes and freak out if it spots them.

Well, the important information that I have on my mobile is in sync, the only bad thing would be reinstalling and reconfiguring everything again, so not a big problem in loosing my phone data.
I would love to use a custom rom and completely say goodbye to touchwiz and to the huge bloatware that comes with my phone, but unfortunately, CM for note3 exynos is not available yet.
thanks

Exchange Mail without Pin Lock

Hi guys,
I've just set up my exchange mail on my new Note 3 and it's great, except it needs a PIN lock so every time I go to use my phone I have to put the PIN in which gets annoying.
Just wondering if there's a way to have the exchange mail without the PIN lock?
I downloaded a hacked mail app for my SGS3 when I had it which worked perfectly, but I'd like to avoid putting a custom OS on my Note 3 just to get the hacked mail app, if possible.
Any suggestions would be great
Yes, there's an Xposed framework add in called "Exchange Security Bypass".
Works great.
Thanks mate, that looks like a good solution.
Can I install Xposed on stock ROM, without having to flash or anything though? I want to keep my phone stock.. I can't really figure out the answer to this question from the FAQ and General Info pages..
Cheers

Hi Rosli,
Unfortunately it looks as though CF AUto Root is having some issues with 4.3 SM-N9005 so doesn't look like I can root it. I tried to update my phone and it says there are no updates available - I don't think 4.4 is offered to Australia.
Is there another way to root the phone?
Cheers

Missing data mobile quick access in notification

Hello everyone. I bought a Galaxy Note 4 N910P one week ago. And then I recognized that it doesn't have mobile data quick access in notification on Android 5.1.1
I searched Google and Samsung says it is general error on android 5.1.1 of any devices. Samsung promised that they will fix it in the future. I think that I can't wait for them. So anybody in here can tell me how to solve the problem? Thanks so much
I gained that notification by flashing SaintZ93's OBAR rom for 5.1.1 and then clicking Add all notification toggles inside the idoneapps application. This gives you all possible notifications and the one you are looking for. Not sure how else you would do it besides tripping the knox counter and rooting/flashing.

You can add that toggle yourself on pretty much any ROM by using SqLite Editor and accessing the settings.db really no need to flash a different ROM.

How do I change the notification background color?

Hello, I know this is a kind of specific request but I have a specific need. The ROM I'm currently using has some UI issues, specifically in the notification panel area. It seems that the text and icons are both white for media playback notifications and I can't see the playback controls or even the song/video info on the notification panel. I've attached some screenshots if you're confused by what I mean(one has high contrast text enabled and the other doesn't).
I am rooted so if the solution involves root, I can do that. I *would* install another ROM but I'm having trouble installing a newer version of TWRP to flash a new one so im literally stuck on this. Im actually on the version of Note 3 that requires safestrap(the modded version of TWRP) to work so I'm sure that's the issue.
I love this phone so I'm trying to give it at least another year of life before I cave and buy a new phone so any help is appreciated!

I thought this was a general Note 3 forum? Anyway I wasn't necessarily looking to flashing a new rom I just wanted to know if anyone knew how to change the notification background color.
No its not and the big problem would be someone posting information that is not for your phone and potentially you have a brick.
EG i could say flash TWRP xxx as thats whats used on this forum .But not for AT T models .
