Would nougat require firmware upgrade?
I didn't see any firmware upgrade threads, or baseband version mentioned in any of the 7.x forums.
I'm very new to Lenovo phones , I've used HTC .

You can google this one out seriously. Lineage won't support all devices 100% but there's also a big chance they will
If a device isn't officially supported you're more than welcome to start porting Lineage to it.
Here's the guide to follow:

Is it really that easy? If I follow this guide everything will just work?

It would be if we had our device specific code. Which we don't. So yes, in theory it's that easy, in practice it's far from it.

No. Most things will be broken. But you'll be able to boot lineage. There's a huge difference between booting an OS and make it stable enough to be a daily driver

I think yes. By default, Android phones will have 2 years of life. For the ZenFone Max Pro M1, it will be 2018 - 2020. But the upgrade will not in the near future because Pie builds is not complete and have a lot of bugs.
