Steps to safeguard phone - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi,
After being an idiot and managing to lose my IMEI and baseband following a dodgy rom install could anyone please advise (idiots guide) to what I should do to avoid another £40 repair bill ?
Assume the following:
1) Root the phone
2) Backup EFS
3) Install new rom
I missed out point 2. Is there any other thing I should be doing to make sure I don't end up with an issue ?
Thanks.

there are sticky guides. just go with it.
where did you do?

[Q] Brand new to rooting - questions....

Hey guys... I am brand new to all of this... just got my samsung vibrant a couple of months ago and love it. I have since always wanted to root my phone, but am scared of doing so because I don't want to void my manufacturer's warranty on it (and i'm paying for an extended warranty). I was reading through the "guide - tips - tricks" post and found a LOT of good information. But it did not really answer my questions due to me being so new, so anyway, here they are:
1. Do I need to create a back-up of my system the way it is before I root? if so, how do i do it (in beginner's language w/ step by step instructions pls). I saw where I can down load the "ROM Manager App." But I don't even understand what "Flashing" the Rom means?
2. I didn't understand the post about returning your system back to a "factory OS" the way it was when you received your phone... (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728471 )In this post he explains supposedly how to do it, but I don't understand entering that stuff in a "terminal" on your computer... could someone explain in noob terms w/ step by step instructions?
Just to make sure... in theory, I can make a back up of my system before I root. Then I can root my phone. But if I ever want to "unroot" it, then I would have to follow the instructions in the link above, and then afterwards do a recovery of my nandroid backup to put me back to where I originally was? thanks guys
Rooting your phone will change nothing (meaning you lose nothing).
So, after you root, simply download Rom Manager, open it, click on flash recovery, then reboot into recovery (at this point you can make a backup of your phone).
Once you have root, you can also use titanium backup (in the market also) to backup all of your apps.
flash = install a rom *you do this in recovery, see above*
If you know nothing about this the best advice is to read the very first thread in this section. It walks you step by step from "hey I want to root" to "I'm rooted, Now what?" to "Hey I F'd up, can I fix this" and so on. And on the "Hey I f'd up" note apparently the Vibrant likes to brick, meaning it won't turn on and you'll think you broke it, so you need to be familiar with ODIN which you'll find out more about in the three threads I refer to. Also the first two threads in the Development section are also must reads. All of the answers are here. A lot of people here will be very helpful in giving guidance or pointing you to the answer your looking for but there are quite a few that will flame you for not searching.
You'll be much happier and more comfortable after reading these three threads. Good Luck.
Answer to question 1 can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7324731&postcount=1
Answer to question 2 can be found here. The terminal you speak of is ODIN. Kind of a fail safe if you will. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
A "I need to send this back for warranty repairs" backup isn't critical since you can just load up Odin and flash it back to stock with that. No need for you to be hyper critical on that.
With this phone, pretty much anything you can mess up can be fixed with Odin (short of flashing things that aren't meant for this phone).
While I wouldn't volunteer to be the first to flash an image, I wouldn't be too scared of it either.
Rooting your phone will add a few files (superuser, busybox) and otherwise leave your system intact. If something breaks later & you need to sent it back to TMO/Samsung, you'd just Odin it back to stock and give them a "blank slate" which is actually something you'd want to do anyways (you don't want them having access to your gmail for example...when I send a laptop back for repairs, I always image it back to stock as well).
I would suggest you read through the Vibrant Bible and just poke around. When you see something that shows/tells you how to do things like flash, follow along (load up the software and do as much as you can without actually doing anything [if that makes any sense]).
Never EVER flash anything that wasn't meant for your phone (a few people bricked their vibrants by accidentally flashing the SPLs from their G1s...how they make that mistake I don't know, but it's happened). Be careful, follow directions & you'll be good to go.
There are youtube videos showing how to use Odin and get back to stock (I believe the bible has links) and there are probably also youtube videos showing how to do other things as well.
For root, all you have to do is download "RyanZA's OCLF 2.0" from the market and click the root button. Follow its directions & you are good to go.
For many of us, that's not good enough. You'll want to then install ROM Manager and have it download the new Recovery.
From there, the world is open, find a ROM and flash away! I'm partial to Bionix, but have recently started to like the Axura froyo ROM as well.

Hello

Hello everybody
This is Siddharth from India. I am a mechanical engineer. I just purchased the Galaxy Note 2 a month back prior to this I always used an iPhone. I am new to the android platform and don't know how to flash, jailbreak or how to load different roms. I am very much tempted to install the moromoto00 theme on my phone but don't have a clue how to proceed. Frankly speaking it seems a lot more complicated than jailbreaking. Can anyone help me out??
Thanks in advance
Hello
I recommend you download and install the Note II Toolkit on your PC. You can find that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923956
It makes flashing and rooting very simple, and everything is explained very well.
So the first step for you now is to root your phone, install CWM and then make a Nandroid backup. The toolkit will let you do all these things very easily. :good:
Those things are necessary to do first, then after that you can start flashing ROMs and themes!
Also recommended to backup your EFS before you start flashing things. Essentially, an EFS backup backs up your IMEI code in case something goes wrong you won't be left with a device with a faulty IMEI (that would be very bad). The toolkit lets you do this as well!

Binary backup of system to another s4 (same variant)

Is it possible to backup an android device (in my case gs4 variant) entirely as in system as binary.img file?
I'll explain more about what I mean by binary backup as follow up.
I have gs4, dropped it several times (I'm clumsy) now finally digitalizer and screen is completely dead. It used to be rooted and have CWM recovery.
I have another gs4 I got from my brother as he got new phone and we used same carrier both are sgh-i337m (should be internally same as i9505)
Now I want to keep all the settings and apps files etc. (Litterally everything)
Reason is because I don't like changes unless absolutly neccessary. (Heck I'm still using rotary as home phone)
So, only way (without costing me money) I can find possible was binary backup. Dump everything from the eMMC of my old phone to the other one.
Is this possible in anyway? If I use ADB or someway? By the way old one is completely blacked out and not recognizing any touch input.
I googled and searched for such information in XDA couldn't find one myself.
Please help. Thanks in advance
Easiest way may be to moved the motherboard from one phone to the other if both phones are the same model. I have done this several times with the i337m with no loss of data.

If you happen to have TWRP recovery installed on both of your phones, you can use that to create a backup of your old phone (to an sdcard) and restore it on your new phone.
But swapping the motherboards is probably faster
If the screen of the device the OP wants to 'clone' is non functional, TWRP isn't going to be much help.....
Regarding the step by step disassembily tutorial, this video by LE55ONS on YouTube is just what you're after.....

Best possible full nandroid backup for zenfone2?

Hello everyone,
After seeing all these bricks, and generally knowing that there is dangerous when u flash ur phone to damage its crusial partitions with various problems then (such as missing IMEIs, damaged bootloader), i was wondering..
Which is the best possible way to back up our zenfone2, in order we have a "rescue boat" in case of a brick, missing IMEIs and staff like that?
Follow this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/guide-brick-soft-hard-bricked-zenfone-2-t3284256
Is the best solution if you lost the partition of you cellphone, I was one of the had a brick in the cellphone with this tutorial a could revive it.
very useful topic but it's not what i really asked. will this guide help me in case of lost IMEIs?
i am asking about the best possible backup in order to be 100% sure that in every possible case, i will have the needed files from my phone to make it functional again.

(need) A guide for a full stock P9 Lite backup.

Hi everyone,
I tried to find a solid guide for fully backing up my system before doing anything to it to no avail. I'm currently on stock VNS-L21/VNS-L21C432B380/EMUI 5.0/Android 7.0 and plan to do the following:
1) Unlock bootloader
2) Root
3) Install Elite kernal and Arsenik rom
4) Probably some other modifications later on
I've already got some app from the store for application backup purposes but would like to have a firmware/rom/whatever backup of my current setup in order to safely restore in case anything goes wrong. I've done considerable amount of flashing with my other Android phones previously but any help would be appreciated.
Furthermore, perhaps it's worth to create a guide for this and sticky it to the top? I saw a lot of "help, bricked device" posts in this forum. I bet the guys with know-how are sick and tired of helping. Anyway, if you point me in the right direction I might as well create the guide for others.
Have a good one,
Renārs
Without root I don't think that I can make a backup . I can make apk file but not backup of data :/
