Hey,
After hard bricking my Mi A1 and flashing an official android 8.0 stock rom, it is restarting every few minutes. First goes the unlock boot loader warning screen, then the mi screen and android one screen. It then goes onto the setup menu. I am able to go only to the point to enter my name. Depending on my setup speed, it becomes unresponsive at about that point, just restarts and goes back onto the lock boot loader warning screen. I tried re-locking the boot loader, but it only went to the mi screen, and again the process repeats. Please note that I can't flash a boot.img partition, says partition table doesn't exist.
**********************************************************
SOLUTION:
Place persist.img into the root of phone(not in any folder), flash twrp.img INTO THE BOOT PARTITION, and then reboot to recovery. You will see the TWRP loading screen. Go to Advanced-->Terminal--> and execute the following:
dd if=/sdcard/persist.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27
And go back to Restart--> Reboot to system.
The persist should b back!
Now use Qualcomm IMEI write tool to restore your IMEI and MAC address!
Try flashing a custom ROM, then reflash Mi A1 stock OS

Where should I flash a custom rom from? Don't have TWRP since when I try installing TWRP, it says that recovery partition table doesn't exist.

There has to be a way to manually make the persist partition writable, since the service center somehow knows how to do that...

nope there isnt, if you have flashed every rom available using mi flash tool hasnt solved your issue.
only hope you have is clean flash stock ROM with locked bootloader, go to service center and tell them it happened after you updated to the latest security patch.
first they will flash using EDL cable (deep flash) if that doesnt help they will replace the whole motherboard (that's how my issue was solved)
i recommend you to follow this procedure.

I don't understand what your problem.
For Marshmallow use this TWRP.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7F3ZXr565GkY28yUjhfRkd5MUk/view?usp=drivesdk
Another possibility how to fix your phone is flash stock rom from stock recovery. It's the easiest way.

Well, i can feel some doubt in your post...but h*ll yeah! I'm currently facing the same problem; where flashing stock rom, downloaded from their site, using their stock recovery, adb, and adb sideload....
the rom flashes successfully, but still boots with the same error...To be frank, i'm fed up...and almost about giving up on this phone...
-i believe i'll give it another shot this very night, trying different methods...funny ones though; if and when they work, i will definitely update my post again... my phone version is Z00ED, in case anybody cares to know -
UPDATE:
=======
Aaaaaanyway, I downloaded 2 kinds of stock roms from the Asus official site;
1. UL-ASUS_Z00E-WW-13.1010.1612.53-user (the latest:- M) and...
2. UL-ASUS_Z00E-WW-12.8.5.222-user (and older version:- actually, the pre-installed version)
after flashing the first one over and over again; after and before wiping my phone and cache over and over again, NOTHING HAPPENED; no change!!! still kept throwing back the error message.
So I decided to flash the second one, and for a split second, I was happy cos the error had disappear...only for me to wait for eternity and in vain for the phone to boot (that is, even if it could). suddenly, I realized what had happen....the phone couldn't boot pass the ASUS logo, neither could it load recovery again (as it used to). It only boots into ADB, but of course, that will require USB DEBUG MODE to be ON to be able for the phone to be detected through ADB (which is far from possible due to the numerous wipes I performed).
CURRENT SITUATION: I can't ADB, I can't get into recovery, and I'm stacked with the logo at boot......when the phone is completely turned off and placed on charge, the battery shows an empty battery with the loading (status) sign (but it charges, even without the OS being able to display the process).
Don't know whether anyone is facing same, or I can start a new thread with this? and I need help before taking it to a 3rd party repairs (since we don't hv Asus customer care in our country yet).
Will be glad to find help.
PS: The computer still detects the phone as an ADB Android device, and to me, that's a beacon of hope.

Test:
Try to flash boot.img of your firmware version from fastboot mode but use command: fastboot boot boot.img. Reboot system. Then let me know.
So this is what happened, I was on I MedroM v3, so I was there was a firmware in beta (the 7.0 update) so I've done it and now I'm stuck in a bootloop
, I flashed the Nougat recovery so it locked my bootloader
and removed TWRP so I can't even go to flash the old rom
again. I also can't get the product id now cause I don't have an OS installed, there's no way to pull it without it an OS. I have tried every existing method possible and nothing (including the sd
card method with update.app and bla bla bla)
So I can't flash files through fastboot It says " Command not allowed"
Can somebody please help me, I have experience with flashing and everything but I in my entire life have not seen that a phone company so big doesn't have a ******** flashtool
or some other way of recovering hard bricked devices instead of buying a new motherboard or something..
If somebody could help me I would be so grateful! Please excuse my language I'm very mad and frustrated, I need my phone for work and now I'm offline..
- Fastboot is available but the bootloader is locked
- No TWRP
- No OS Installed
Download a firmware you want, extract the update.app and put it in sd card folder. From the phone completely shutdown, press vol +, vol - and power at the same time hold it until the updater with percentage progress moving appears.. you should be fine after that.. ? i believe. Maybe try it. That's what i did on my case
No, It says "Software Install failed! Incompatability with current software version"
When I go to eRecovery t says that it cant connect to WIFI.
As I said i tried every known method and I can't get it to work. Spent my whole day trying to fix it, I'm out of ideas

I had the same problem, but with the L31.
First try to use https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-twrp/
Then with the file i send you attached (MAF32)
- Fastboot flash boot boot.img
- Fastboot flash system system.img
- Fastboot flash cust cust.img
- and finally TWRP
After that i puted the first exctrated uppdate.pp in my memory card and with the "3 buttons" process i flashed it. Then i repeated the same process with the second one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/hua...droid-nougat-dev-build-huawei-t3488360/page33). After this finished, again with the 3 buttons i made a factory reset.
5 minutes later, it was working.
i don't understand how to boot to fastboot ? and where to get these img files i am really stuck here pleaase
You don't understand, In order to unlock the bootloader i need the product ID which you get by typing some number combination in the dialer. I cant get to the dialer cause I dont have any OS installed, cause the old was dirty flashed. So thats why i cant flash TWRP etc..

Hi!
There is this but I haven't tested it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/extract-dat-marshmallow-lollipop-easily-t3334117
Let us know how it goes!
Hi folks, my A1 device is stuck in weird bootloop situation.
This is what I did.
- oem unlock
- boot with a twrp recovery image
- edit build.prop (Added persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1 on top)
- reboot
- first bootloop (reboot after mi logo)
- flashed with tissot_images_7.12.7_7.1 version
- succeed boot but the device couldn't recognize usim
- factory reset from android setting menu
- second bootloop (reboot after mi logo)
- flashed with tissot_images_7.12.7_7.1 version
- still bootloop (reboot after mi logo). Since this, it always reproduces bootloop even I had flashing again.
- reboot with twrp and checked /sdcard directory. It was empty. There was only 'TWRP' directory
- after searching, I assumed that it was partition broken issue. (http://en.miui.com/thread-970194-1-1.html)
- Followed this article to fix partition problem. https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-3/general/guide-instruction-to-restore-mi4-mi3-t3279927
- After flashing, went to hardbrick(edl_mode). After several trying, could flash again.
- Different type of bootloop. Could pass mi logo and android one logo. But after few second after, it reboots.
Last bootloop(current status) does not depend on special action. Even when I skipped few task(setup network, account, etc), it still reboots.
Maybe it could depend on time. I think something was broken in the background.
Does anyone know about this kind of problem?
I searched for two days, but A1 is newer device so there is not much information for troubleshooting.
Please help me :crying:
Try flashing the persist.img through fastboot by typing fastboot flash persist persist.img .
I guess you're fimiliar about how fastboot flashing works. I did got my phone with the similar issue fixed doing that, but later the persist image couldn't be flashed and I ended up hard bricking the device as my PC restarted while I was flashing using MiFlash and service guys had to replace the entire motherboard.
You can try doing that but do note that flashing the persist.img many times is strictly prohibited.
Use MiFlash to flash the rom completely. Did you try to preserve user data when flashing?
Seems that unless you are rooted, playing with the build.prop from TWRP or some other method is a bad idea.

Try emptying the userdata partition using fastboot.
I heard that the low version of the driver also causes errors. Update the driver's fastboot, and try to flash again.
Try manually flashing the firmware by following this guide
http://en.miui.com/thread-942449-1-1.html
after completing the last step given in the guide, type "fastboot reboot".
Also this only works with unlocked bootloader

I'm really glad that I could help. I had this issue too and I can recall how painful it was. I think more people need to know about this fix, can you post the august persist.img file here so more people can access that easily?

I was in a very similar scenario, however, I could not find any persist.img I could flash through fastboot. Can't erase it also.
I also tried to get it working though using twrp and downloading the latest stable build from Xiaomi.
Booting temporally into the TWRP, sending the persist.img found into the build files and using the following cmd:
dd if=/sdcard/persist.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27
No luck. Device boots, goes to setup wizard, then reboots a few seconds later. =(
Not sure what to try anymore. Xiaomi doesn't officially sell phones in my country so I can't contact warranty.

Thanks for helping mate! Though this specific google search I found some additional information on this matter (not kidding).
I was able to flash persist by downgrading back to the august nougat build. Then flashed the original persist file.
The instructions don't work if you are in any newer build, I guess I first misunderstood that part (or it just worked after a couple of tries).
Though now it doesn't recognize my sim card, so I'll keep working on it.
Best regards.

Hi Guys, got the same problem here. Out of the blue my phone doesn't boot anymore (no root, no flash, nothing).
I tried flashing, with MiFlash and Fastboot, 7.1 December and Oreo January, but it didn't work unfortunately.
Now after reading your last posts I'm looking for august update. Could you please tell me where you got it.
It's weird because if i flash correctly (fastboot 7.1) i get the Android One Logo, a glitch and then it reboots, but when i try 8.0 or MiFlash i only get the Xiaomi logo and then it reboots :/
Trying to flash persist (both with 4.6MB and 32MB images through DD and TWRP) might have slightly changed the behavior ...
No clue about IMEI numbers being wiped out or not :/ (but i have the phone box with them in need)
Thanks for you help anyways

i used this to restore my mi a1. only flash /persist image.
if your persist partition is corrupted
than you will notice that your phone will automatically reboots in under 60 seconds
To restore persist partition download persist.img
fastboot boot to twrp
and copy persist.img file to root of phone storage
now open terminal in twrp and give the following command
dd if=/sdcard/persist.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27
this will restore your persist partition and fixes the issue of reboot
but be careful if u are a newbie, best option is just go to mi service center & let them restore ur phone.

yeah, and you are not rooting your phone just temporarily booting in twrp.
Everyone who installed RR is having the same problem i guess, normally custom roms don't touch persist and use their own mac.
also did you make a backup before flashing any custom rom. If you did then just flash persist.img from there.
or
try this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/easiest-quickest-to-fix-wifi-custom-t3779040.
Follow steps carefully DO NOT DELETE THE FILE, just the lines in wlan_mac.bin. (this one is easy & u don't have to use dd if u are not familiar with it)

bro just tell me one thin after doing that can i reflash stoc rom with mi flash tool as normal and everything will be fine or not, can i use my mi a1 as non rooted phone or not... please replay me bro
I had the same problem as you and i fixed it properly only by flashing again stock rom through Mi flash
Run Mi flash as administrator and flash all and lock
This will erase everything in your phone, so backup your files before.
This worked just fine for me now i have normal mac address for WiFi and Bluetooth hope it will work for you too.
thanks the developers whose are giving me some time for my problem

u need to flash persist only if it's corrupted means if your phone is rebooting under 60sec and WiFi doesn't connect.
first tell me what was the problem and what steps u followed exactly.
for edl mode #
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot oem edl
cmd gives that error sometimes but phone still goes into edl mode your phone will power off but notification light will be blinking.
Was trying to flash the SIRIUZ rom to my P10 Lite with TWRP, so i wiped Dalvik, cache, data, internal storage, system. Unsurprinsingly the rom didnt install, but for some dumb decision I rebooted the device, and now it doesnt even show any screen! Cant access twrp, nor fastboot(The phone is recognized when pluged in to Windows and type fastboot devices in cmd).
Tried flashing system.img and boot.img but still, rebooting and nothing shows up.
Has anybody exprienced this? If so, please reply!
I`m not the only one having this problem, thats sad
Try dload method.

Just take a service ROM extract and flash userdata.img ! It has a size of about 724 MB flash it along with some critial partitions like recovery, recovery 2 and others. This should fix it.

If your bootloader is unlcoked try fladhing twrp and booting into there, then download the flashable stock formware and flash it via twrp
If it doesn't work you have to pay 15$ for DC Phoenix or try to get a warranty repair.. but completl brick it first so they can't proove it's your fault

You don't need sd card for installation.

So your screen is black when your pc detects fastboot?
If that is the case then you won't solve anything by flashing the normal partition, use DC Phoenix.
