Ticwatch E Teardown (partial). SIM slot inside? - Other SmartWatches

Well, I have a Ticwatch E I haven't been able to recover after bricking so I was pondering what to do with it. Yeah, I think we all know where that line of thought leads. Anyway, I had a few minutes of time at work and got most of it disassembled (and reassembled) minus the digitizer and speaker. I found something interesting, there seems to be a slot for a SIM card, the pads look to be connected, more on that later.
For this you'll need a Torx T2, a very small screwdriver (not sure the exact size), a pry tool and a pick.
First off the basics, locate the Torx screw.

}
Remove the screw and pry the housing apart, then slide the pick around the seperation.
Carefully separate the top and bottom and pull up on the ribbon cable connector for the digitizer and button.
Remove the 3 screws.
Carefully pull up remove the ribbon cable for the other components and pry the board out of the tabs holding it in.
Pull up and remove the ribbon cable to detach the battery.
Your main board and battery are now out.
4 tabs hold the inner casing with the sensors and speakers. Gently pull up anywhere you can get a grip and it should detach.
Notice anything? There looks like a spot for a SIM card! There are connection pads and it's wired.
And here is as far as I go with the digitizer.
So anyone want to speculate on the sim? I don't know enough about the rf chip and we don't have modem firmware (or partition) that I'm aware of. Still, make you wonder.

Chinese version vs Global version.
Hi,
I saw that you were wondering about the ticwatch's sim space, maybe you also noticed that there are unplaced parts on the PCB. This is because Mobvoi decided to create two versions of the smartwatch. a Chinese version and a Global version. The Chinese version comes with a pre-assembled sim card and tweaked firmware. Because of extra laws/rules with mobile connectivity when exporting it into the world.
They mentioned this in a Kickstarter update.
Cheers.

Mobvoi is the first vendor to partner with Shanghai Unicom, a unit of China Unicom, to launch eSIM editions of its smart device.
Shanghai Unicom deputy GM Dai Ling said its eSIM is based on GSMA’s Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP) specifications. The eSIM download and management technology is in full compliance with the SGP.22 GSMA RSP Technical Specification V2.0, which enables remote SIM provisioning in any consumer device and for devices to store more than one operator profile concurrently (although they can only be used one at a time).
More details here: https://embeddedsecuritynews.com/2017/04/mobvoi-unicom-release-esim-smartwatch/

Nice work. Could you measure size of battery? I wonder if is possible to install, a little bigger battery into watch?

Can it be reassembled properly?
Mine started to make a weird noise whe it vibrates, like something inside is lose, maybe the vibrator motor itself.
I was thinking about take it apart end look inside.
I made a video, if anyone is interested, maybe take a look.

Did you ever found an answer? I m trying to know via accubattery the status of my battery and since I cant find replacements , maybe it's possible to find only a cell with the same size or a little bit bigger ,and use the old battery ic board

No sorry. I still wonder what is the size of battery. My battery is still in good shape, so I will keep the watch in one piece. For now...

Same here accubattery after one week of use always reported the full capacity. Since the battery is still perfect I also will keep the watch as is for now . It would be great if a 400mah cell would fit inside

Please note that I am a complete noob to LIPO, but am an electronics enthusiast (i.e. no formal training...just Dr. Google, You-tube, and Instructables), and I say this only to let you know that anything I state below should be considered completely untrustworthy.
After some research about LI-PO batts I have found that the dimensions are listed as the 6 digit number you see in the photos. So it is an LSSP372728/LP372728. That is 3.7mm thick, 27mm wide, 28mm long
The closest I could find on Alibaba is a 373030 - go to www[dot]alibaba[dot]com and search for 373030 battery.
Another useful link is an LP size/capacity chart...www[dot]lipolbattery[dot]com[slash]lithium[space]polymer[space]battery[dot]html
Lipo gel packs like this are essentially wrapped layers of poly film, lithium, and ionic gel suspension (electrolyte) so the dimensions really dictate the mAh capacity. I'm sure that there is a surface area constant and some standard calculations for this somewhere as well, but I'm stopping here...for now.

Just a few more pictures with battery measures

Another one

Hello
I recently got a 2nd hand Ticwatch E for 60$ and it is flawless except the battery that barely gets me 12hours of regular use or 6h of intensive use.
This post is very informative and I wanted to thank you. I will try to order some batteries off of alibaba.

@Axel85
I've talked to the alibaba guy and he can send them to me for 1.35$ each, min 5 batteries.
Since you have your watch open, can you confirm to me that a 3.7x30x30 battery will fit into the watch ?

For battery life , pay attention , if you disabled mobvoi apps and not disabled Ticsystem via adb on pc it will cause battery drain . My ticwatch has been opened only to measure the battery , but now that i disabled Ticsystem via adb , and not only mobvoi apps via watch , battery life is great . The battery name tells you the dimensions , so 372728 should be 3.7mm x 27mm x 28mm

Hmm, interesting. Will try this now. Thanks. Regarding the dimmensions, do you have any idea if it will fit?

I edited the post , dimensions are 3.7 x 27 x 28 mm if you look at the battery specifications printed on it . If I have to tell you 30mm won't fit , maybe there's a little bit like 1mm per side . I recommend you to try to disable all the apps that contains mobvoi and tic name . You must also disable Ticsystem via adb on pc , you can't do it via watch since it will turn back on by itself after some minutes and drain battery, because it's looking for response from the other tic apps. You will loose all the mobvoi watchfaces , and the charging screen ( I use wear charging widget is 100 times better ) . You should find how to disable Ticsystem via adb on reddit . My battery life gone from 8 hours to more than 20

Alright, I have disabled or removed updatetes from all apps that had Mobvoi in the name.
Also, I have went into ADB and disabled all the packages that had Mobvoi in the name.
I installed Wear charging widget, Heart track 2 for 24h monitor (1h interval) and now I'm looking for some watch faces with reduced battery impact.

I really love minimalin , sometimes I change it but always come back . It's a watchface inspired by pebble watch ( this is what the developer say). I had to sideload the apk since it was not showing on playstore on both my ticwatch E and on lg gwatch . You can find the post on reddit about the watchface . If you set it with black background it's super battery friendly

Looking for a ticwatch E digitizer
Hey BackCheck, any chance you still have that working digitizer assembly? Would you be willing to sell it? I have a ticwatch E that got more wet than it should, and the digitizer stopped responding. Bought it second hand, no warranty, in a country with no official mobvoi presence. Now on the hunt for a working digitizer. Let me know if it's available.

Can I install a local SIM? I'm not sure that my Mobile Provider can register the pre-installed SIM...

R-Watch M26s

Hello everyone,
I've placed an order of the R-Watch M26s and all I've found about it is that it's an upgraded version of the R-Watch M26. I've bought it at Gearbest as they were having a coupon for it, and it'll arrive in the coming days. The specs for the watch is the following:

As there's very little info about the watch itself, so I'm interested to know if anyone else have it here and wants to share their experience about the watch?
I'll be posting a full length review once the clock itself arrives, and I'll also post the coupon I used to get it at a lower price if the item is good and worth it's price
The watch came today, and I've just been having a initial look at it. I must say that it's better than I expected, but the thing that keeps the band in place could've been better and the band itself is big. Other than that, it's a good watch for the price. Full review incl. video coming up in the next few days so stay tuned
Review of the watch (Will update with pictures )
I've now used the watch for a week or two, so here's my thoughts about said watch. The watch itself is built out of mostly plastic, that's chromed and slightly dark colored. The plastic feels sorta solid, but I must say that there's one downpart of the watch being made out of plastic and that is it's extremely hard to put the watch strap back on if it falls off or if you remove it.
The screen at the front seem to be covered by glass, as I've not been able to scratch it with keys. With that said, I should add that the watch has a capacitive screen with a LED screen. It's not the sharpest screen I've seen, and there's quite a bit of color change when looking at the screen at angles. However, this is expected for such a cheap product and it's not too bad at all.
The software on the watch is a custom OS by Mediatek, based on Nucleus. It's easy to navigate and there's quite a bit of builtin apps in the watch, but there's some disadvantages with the OS. One of the disadvantages I can see is there's a lack of third party apps. This can be said about most affordable smartwatches so it's not unexpected.
The app for the watch that's supplied (Mediatek Smartdevice) is decent and does the job just fine, it's stable but it's not as good as the Android Wear app but it's decent enough.
The watch have sorta decent battery life, and it lasts around 3-5 days depending on use, and I've only charged it 2 times since I got it.
The main disadvantage with this watch is that it does have a built-in speakers - that's poor and will redirect your phones sound through it and it's far from a ideal solution. I would rather see the watch not having a speaker, as it's far from useful and it's not the best implentation ever.
I bought my watch here with the coupon "GBM26S":

Hello,
My watch arrived within 2 weeks but that's because I ordered it with NL Post as courier. Usually I would say it takes around a month atleast.

Is it used well with Iphone? I have ordered an M26, it is pretty cool, but no iphone~
It doesn't work with iPhone !
I received the watch last week and have been trying to use it with my iPhone 5S (IOS 8.3).
I was able to pair it but it disconnects for some mysterious reason (sometimes after a minut, sometimes after a few minutes) and it does not automatically reconnects. This issue makes the watch useless for me.
The only thing that seems to work is the notifier, so I'm able to see the notifications on the watch.
But no way to receive/answer any calls or even place a call.
I bought it at banggood.com and have contacted them and supplied them all information (a video that shows that it doesn't work).
Now I'm waiting for an answer/solution...

Yes, I did install the app. As the iPhone is already supporting bluethooth v4, no additional apps are needed to use the dialer, phonebook and the call log. The app is only needed for the additional functions (like the notifier and that one works very good).
Personally I think the issue is related to the fact that Apple changed the code in IOS 8.3 to support their own Smartwatches and as a result disabled or changed the protocol to support the "cheaper" (read non-Apple) smartwatches.
Banggood came back to me and is now sending a new (the same model!) smartwatch to me to rule out hardware issues (they think the watch is defective). So I'm waiting on the delivery of it.

Yes, I know. That's the app I'm running to be able to receive notifications.
Meanwhile I received a new watch (replacement) and that one works as a charm with my iPhone (all issues are resolved).
The only difference I can see with the previous watch is the version of the firmware. The new one is running V03, the one that doesn't function runs V01.
So it might be a firmware issue (I can't test it as I do not have V03 firmware files to upgrade the watch - So if someone knows where to find it, I would greatly appreciate it).

Hi, have a couple of questions about this watch. Does it work with Spotify? Can I get notifications from whatsapp and Gmail?
Thanks
I received tha watch yesterday, and I'm not able to have notification.
I can make a call and receive it, but if I want to go to messages it says "failed" and write empty. ...
The firmware is the v004.
Please help....
Can you reply to messages on it or you can only read messages but cant reply. also does whatsapp work on it or just wechat as advertised?
i am starting to feel like the watch is a bit useless if you can only answer calls and the speaker is not great so you probably cant hear a thing and you can only read messages and cant reply. so whats the use?
am considering getting this but is it worth getting? or what would be a better smart watch to get compatible with a samsung.
i got the watch from ebay, my m26 doesn't read Hebrew (other than that i like it). At gearbest.com it says that their watch support Hebrew thou.
i'm guessing they have a newer version than i do or they added it manually.
can enybody check their gearbest m26 for hebrew support and if you have it pleas save your firmware and post it, i know there is a way to save the firmware and flash it to a different device (but i dont know yet how to do that).
there even might be a difference between having a hebrew UI and being able to display hebrew characters (i need the display only, dont care about the ui).
Quick tip for those that are unsatisfied with battery life - do a battery swap. It's cheap and straight forward.
I have M26, not M26s with 200mAh battery which struggled to last a day, even on Energy saving mode. I opened the watch and found out the battery was very small compared to the available space in the compartment (I'll attach an image later). After some research it turned out there are a lots of Li-Po batteries in AliExpress for around 5$ with various sizes and capacity (just type the size you want in the search bar). The original size of the battery was 402030 (4mm height*20mm width*30mm length) and managed to squeeze in 602040 (6mm*20mm*40mm) with 500mAh capacity, however the height was a bit much as now there is a slight gap between the lid and the body on one side. Probably 502040 (5mm height) would be ideal, which typically is 380mAh. The soldering job is pretty straight forward - unsolder the old battery and solder the leads of the new one after trimming them to the appropriate size. Just detach the ribbon cable that is located nearby. Now the watch lasts 2 days connected to the phone, pedometer and no energy saving.
Regards
I have one and I'm quite happy with it. I use it with a Windows Phone 10 (Lumia 950 dual SIM). The disadvantage is that there is no control software like with Android phones, but most functions nevertheless work: only camera and music don't work. Otherwise it works rather well -when you have figured out how to use it, because the user manual is close to useless (it took me some time to figure out how to set the clock).. It doesn't disconnect unless you veer too far from the phone, but reconnects when you come closer.

I would be very curious to find out the following:
- does it have the Google Play store and/ or can you side load applications?
- what is the battery life like?
- where do you install the SD card?
I thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

My smartwatch is retained in Central post office in Madrid for one week so sadly I guess it's catched by customs.
Other k8 spanish owner says it has play store and of course you can load any .apk.
Spanish owner said had some problems with notifications and data when screen is off, and he solved it with some software.
American owner didn't have any problem with notifications when screen is switched off. He said smartwatch has been updated 5 times since the the smartwatch was released one month ago.
Only problem American has it's related to pulsometer heartband which is detected but he can not pair/connect it because it seems smartwatch Bluetooth it's not BLE and it is announced as it is.
It seems it doesn't have microsd slot:

Received last week from seller Shenzhen GagaKing Technology Co.,Ltd reliable seller who solved my problems with lost smartwach.
http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6629385771.html?orderId=66935146402922
They messaged me saying apple opened a claim against Aliexpress because they are selling a copy of their Apple watch and Alliexpress ordered to close the announcement. They will continue selling for Chinese market and will continue selling contacting by email/ message but they are not allowed to announce it anymore.
Nice and cheap smartwatch.
Good aluminium finishing, light (59gr) and clear micro and speaker.
Didn't have any problem with my Movistar MicroSim. Some people wrote received the k8 with invalid IMEI and they had to generate a new IMEI with chamelephon. Not my case. I didn't have any problem and I receive 3G/H+ in Spain even having 2100 3G here.
Google play was not preinstalled but I downloaded Last play store 5.6.8 and no problem.
After that I downloaded some apps from play store and another apps just installing .apk like endomondo pro.
GPS and Bluetooth are working great. I did have many problems with umeox watches relating to Bluetooth. I like the watch because I want to use the smartwatch principally for training and k8's GPS and Bluetooth are working fine without interruptions. I didn't have any problem pairing with my Zephyr HxM BT heart rate chest band. The same for Jabra sport wireless headphones and chines cheap monocular. All working continuously.
320x320 is good for some things and bad for others. The characters are smaller than in 240x240 res and I can access to some setting I couldn't access in umeox smartwatches but sometimes letters are too small for my eyes.
I don't like the launcher because it's very simple and limited.
Don't like the fact of swiping from top to down for going back. It limits or makes impossible the using of other launchers like nova.
I didn't try other launchers. I didn't try rooting for extra settings. I didn't try because I have no idea... :silly:
About battery This morning, an Endomondo tracking of 50 minutes with 3G, GPS and Bluetooth chest heart monitor and headphones connected battery went down from 97% to 74% not switching on the screen too much because I received partials by Bluetooth headphones every kilometre.
Right now after 9 hours battery level is 29% not using too much the watch so I guess it can not stand the whole day without charging with a intense using.
Anyway very good smartwatch for its price.
Sorry for my English.
Thanks for the quick review PichaLatigo, very interested in this watch. Looks a lot like what I'm after.
After more time with it, can you give any more details about the battery life? Any problems you've found since your last post?
would anyone reccomend this over the omate or inwatch?

I wonder if the zgpax or other battery fits in here
k8
I received the same watch, but I have still a few questions:
1) did you find the way to install other Widgets on the right side of the clock?
2) is there another launcher that you were able to use? I tried goole now launcher and zeam launcher, but I cannot configurate the options and I had to go back to the standard one
thanks
k8 how to solve a few problems
when I received the phone I was not able to root it and I was not able to call with the sim card, I discovered that there was no IMEI number
0) I had to activate developer mode touching 7 times the BUILT version in phone status
1) I used ROOT GENIUS on the pc, connecting with the usb cable to finally root it, I tried other programs but they didn't work, I also cancelled with it a few chinese apps that I didn't need
2) once it was rooted, I downloaded from the playstore the "MTK engineer mode", it was the only one that worked with me
3) i went to connectivity, cds, radio, phone 1, and finally I tipped the +AT =EGMR=1,7”xxxxXXXXXXXXXXXX", but act to put only one " after the 7, because it you do not do it, it says "AT command failed" , after reboot. The dimension of the letters is so small that you do not notice it
with these 2 actions I was able to have the sim card working and it is perfect
I still do not know how to insert other widgets on the right side of the clock

if roughly no use: 16 hours
intensiv use : 4 but with 1 hour charging the battery is full
I can not recommend it anymore. Bluetooth and GPS are not working anymore after one month using very happily.
I tried to use Nova launcher with "All in one gestures" app recommended by another user but not so practical. I am used to its simple launcher but missing some functions like application manager (I had to use and alternative from play store).
My sim card didn't have any problem. Calls and data work fine. But without GPS it is useless for me.
Moreover my seller can offer an spare charging dock and I would like to get another one just in case... and I didn't find anywhere
I just got the watch yesterday. UI is great and it comes with pre-installed playstore. Battery life i still need to monitor , if i use wifi and bluetooth, seems it drains quite fast. GPS and bluetooth working fine after testing...
As for notification while pairing with phone, it seems that it does not really work...
Is this smartwatch water resistant?
Hi all, i'm interested in buying this smartwatch and i would know if it is water resistant (ipx7 is enough) thanks

Unboxing Video:
First Impression:
While unpacking, the No.1 Sun S2 surprised me with its heavy watch body. It is made out of polished metal, no plastic like assumed partly before. You also notice that because of the weight (88 g in total) and the cool touch of the metal. Unfortunetaly the metal watch band at my silver version is quite light and does not have the same high quality impression as the watch body.
The top view of the No.1 Sun S2
The display is nearly completely dark in the powered off state, the transition between the display and bottom black border (more on that later) is just noticable at strong daylight. The dark black watchface while being in standby or powered off gives the watch a fancy look in my opinion.
Camera and Button
On the right side you can find the camera and the control button. The camera is hidden very unobtrusive in the “winder” of the watch. Friends just discovered the camera after being told where it actually sits – solved very discretly No.1!
The Microfone
The microfone can be found on the left side. The position does not seem to be chosen randomly: The speaker is placed at the opposite and is speaking in the opposide direction.
The Bottom
On the bottom 3 features are placed: The USB contacts, which can be accessed with a normal microUSB cable via the included charging adapter shell. Also the heart rate monitor is placed on the bottom. At last, the the speaker is placed there as well. The metal watch band is closed with a folding clasp. The watch band is unfortunetaly quite rattly and not made from solid metal. At least the watch band can be adjusted in the size. My personal small highlight is that the watch band can be exchanged with standard watch bands – finally a watch with this feature!
The charging Shell
The Sun S2 is connected and charged with the help of the included charging shell adapter. Comfortable: The shell is kept magnetic at the bottom of the No.1 Sun S2. It even has a hole for the speaker, so that the sound can be lead out to the side, in case you want to use it while charging.
OS/Launcher:
The No.1 Sun S2 does not run like on Android Wear but on a Nucleus OS variant from Mediatek. If the watch is in standby it can be turned on by pressing the button (or via a “look-at-watch-movement”). After that you will see one of three possible analog watch faces. With a swipe the mainscreen is entered.
The main screen
On the main screen a small notification bar is placed on the top, showing the battery status, BT connection and the active profile. Beside that, two shortcuts are available which can be configured with any app installed on the watch. An additional swipe opens the main menu.
The main menu
The main menu is controlled via swiping. You have to be quite careful partially, because of the size of the display.
All in all the system is intuitive and stable. I did not notice any freezes or similiar yet. The firmware can be updated via flash tool and a pc. No.1 already supplied a first update.
Display:
The display has its pros and cons. A huge improvement in comparison to older generations of China-Smartwatches is the IPS-display. Finally a display with stable viewing angles, the colors stay constant also at a very steep angles. And it is round. I also do not know why I like that fact so much . The probably most discussed drawback is the black bar at the bottom of the display (“flat tire look”). The connections are placed here. Anyhow, this is not something unusual – also way more expensive watches like the Moto 360 have the optical drawback (although smaller). The only possibility to bypass it would be a bigger bezel all around the display, which would contain the connection (like the LG Urbane).
While the black bar is not noticable a lot with dark backgrounds, with white backgrounds it can be noticed even more. If this is acceptable is a matter of taste. Personally, I do not a have a problem with it.
The resolution is average. A higher resolution would look nicer, but in general the display resolution is ok and not too low.
Functions:
The NO.1 Sun S2 offers several of functions. I could not fully test all of them completely, so I will add some more infos here in the future.
-Calling: Works flawlessly. You can search through your contacts and start calls via your smartwatch. The calling is done “via your wrist”. The best speaking quality is reached when you talk quite near to the microfone. Incoming calls are shown on the watch and you have the possibility to accept them directly on your watch. Alternatively you can also switch to the watch during ongoing calls started from your phone.
-Pushing Notifications: Also this is working fine. By default all popping up notifications in the notification bar of your Android are pushed to the watch. This can be filtered directly on the watch or in the app.
-Messaging: Reading and writing of messages are possible. Anyhow, the writing is quite difficult due to the alpha numeric keyboard which overlays roughly half of the display.
-Anti-Lost: If the BT connection is lost an alarm will start.
-Pedometer: Seems to be working quite well, although I will add some more experiences here since I will measure in parallel with the Mi Band. Unfortunetaly there is no possibility of syncing the data with the smartphone,
-Sleep Monitor: Same as for the pedometer.
-Sedentary Reminder: The watch reminds you after an adjustable interval to move.
-Audio-Player: The Sun S2 has a surprisingly good speaker for such a small device. Just in the upper quarter of the volume the speaker starts to distort. Obviously this is more or less a gimmick, but with a way better sound quality I expected.
-Heart Rate Monitor: On the bottom of the watch a heart rate monitor is placed, so it can be measured while wearing it. The accuracy is quite varying. It feels like around every second measurement delivers a kind of “plausible” value. Also here was unfortunetaly no feature included which can push the data to the phone.
-Thermometer: While measuring the temperature also the bottom LED is turned on. I haven’t figured out how you could measure the temperature with this or if it is fake.
-Calculator
-File manager
-Video-Player
-Gallery
-Sound-Recorder
-Stop-Watch
-“UV Measure”: A fake app, which returns an UV value ranging from low to high depending on the time.
Camera:
The camera is placed hidden in the “winder” of the watch. As expected, the quality is quite let’s call it humble. The stated resolution of 300 KP (640×480) seems to real. Inside the camera app some settings can be set: delay, anti-flicker-frequency, contrast, resolution and quality (low-medium-high). You have to get used to take pictures especially at the beginning, since you watch kind of 90 degrees rotated. Here are some sample pictures (take in the dusk):
Unfortunetaly the camera seems to be not perfectly placed in the middle at my device – you can see a circular black blur at the right side of the pictures, probably caused by the borders of the “winder”. The pictures can not be used for real pictures for obvious reasons, but for small James-Bond-like secret snapshots is funny (in my opinion).
Wearing Comfort:
I like the feel of the watch in general while wearing. The metal watch band can be adjusted well to my wrist size. It should fit small as well as bigger wrists. I personally have quite small wrists, so I directly removed four links. Anyhow, a new watch band is going to be inserted soon, not because the old broke, but because I want to try it .
The automatic light-on feature works very well. It does not need a special shaking movement to wake up, but just a simple “look-at-the-watch-movement”.
Battery:
According to the shop the No.1 Sun S2 has a built-in battery with a capacity of 350 mAh. I did not verify this yet, but I will measure it in the future. While automatic wake-up feature turned on and constant BT the battery the battery lasts about a day at my usage. Charging at night is mandatory.
Conclusion:
Despite several drawbacks, I like the the No.1 Sun S2 very much, especially because of its small price. Obviously you do not get a watch which can compete with brand smartwatches at every aspect. But it supports all major smartwatch functions which I use and it has a high quality look. Since the day of arrival it is placed on my wrist daily . Especially the high brightness if the display and the automatic light-on are convincing me.
How to update the Firmware of the No.1 Sun S2
The No.1 Sun S2 smartwatch has just been released and No.1 is already offering firmware upgrades to their first circular watch. In this post, I will explain step-by-step how to upgrade the firmware of your No.1 Sun S2.
For pictures in higher resolution, check the original blog post here:
http://klonom.com/how-to-update-the-firmware-of-the-no-1-sun-s2/
First of all, here’s a disclaimer: I am not responsible for any possible damages to your device while upgrading the firmware. Flashing a new firmware always contains the risk of breaking your device, making it unusable. Although unlikely, there can be always a small risk to brick your device, resulting in a permanent error. If you are not sure whether you want to take this risk or are completely unaware of flashing steps, I recommend you not to continue.
Read the above carefully? Still want to continue? Good . So let’s go. What do you need?
-No.1 Sun S2 Smartwatch
-The Sun S2 USB connector and a microUSB cable
-An USB Port
-Windows
1. First of all, download the latest firmware for your Sun S2. You can find it here.
2. After downloading, extract the .zip-file.
3. Open the “2502 firmware update tool” folder.
4. Open “Flash_tool.exe”.
5. Click on “Options” and make sure the “USB Download/ReadBack (Data Card)” is checked. Then click on “Format FAT (Auto)”.
6. Make sure the third option “Format FAT” is checked.
7. Back in the main menu, click on “Scatter/Config File” and navigate to the .cfg file of the downloaded fimware. It should be in “EXTRACTED_FOLDER/T2_S2_LANGX_XXXXX/T2PCB01_XXXXX/”. EXTRACTED_FOLDER represents the folder you extracted the .zip file in, while the X’s can be different numbers or letters. Afterwards, the Flash Tool should look similiar to this:
8. Power off your No.1 Sun S2. Put it on the USB connector. Don’t connect the USB connector the the PC yet.
9. Click on “Download” in the Flash Tool. Does it show an error similiar to e.g. “Can not connect to certain COM Port”? If yes, continue here, if not jump to step XX.
10. That means the drivers are not installed yet. Close the Flash Tool and go to the folder “drive” in the main folder and install the drivers by launching the “InstallDriver.exe”.
11. After successfully installing the drivers, make sure you closed the Flash Tool. Plug in the powered off smartwatch and after a short time your PC should recognize the watch and should see it in the explorer. Then unplug the watch again from the PC.
12. Start again the Flash Tool program, the settings should be saved. But to be sure, check steps 5 to 7 again.
13. Click on “Download”.
14. Make sure the USB connector sits tight on the Sun S2. Connect the powered off No.1 Sun S2 to the PC. Leave it in a stable position, since the USB connector can easily lose connection. Losing connection while flashing the preloader results in a broken device.
15. The Flash Tool starts flashing now. It takes around 2-5 min.
16. If it succeded, a window with a green circle should pop up. Congratulations, you just upgraded your smartwatch !
That was it, I hope it worked for you as well .
Was this tried on Windows 8 or 8.1? You need to add which OS you worked with in the description, thanks for doing this, it's appreciated

I can not find official details from the No.1 page, for which exact Windows version it is suitable. I remember on other flash tool versions, you had to deactivate driver signature check in order to install the drivers on Win 8.
If it helps you, I am working currently under Windows 7, it works without any problems.

Ah, I kinda figured it was done under 7, most of these Chinese flash tools don't work well, or at all, under 8 or above. I personally wouldn't like to be the guinea pig on seeing if it works or not. ...thanks for responding

Is your watch turned off? Otherwise I don't really know, try to unconnect the watch again, close the program, restart it, hit download and then reconnect..
I get an otp box at bottom does that need checked in box in flash tools and yes watched is turned off
---------- Post added at 06:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:45 PM ----------
Here is what I'm talking about...
Do you hit "download" then plug watch in???
No, you don't need to check that OTP checkbox. And yes, exactly. I clicked "Download" and then plugged in the turned off watch. Maybe try a different USB slot or run the Flash Tool as an administrator?
I got it klonom, thanks again for the review and tut!!!

Would love to see that IP rating put to the test. I can say from personal experience, most IP67 rated Chinese smartwatches fail even a 24in submersion test.
Oh, in the video it's stated that it's the only round display Chinese smartwatch other than the DM360. This is incorrect. It's just one of the least expensive.

I highly doubt that it sersiously has that given IP rating. It just sounds "better", I also don't think that they actually tested it. But first I want to test the watch in daily life, not that I test it and it's broken afterwards .

A couple of other circular watches I've been thinking of are UWatch UO http://www.amazon.co.uk/Waterproof-Bluetooth-Smartwatch-Wristwatch-Smartphone/dp/B00XVC4A6E and ZGPAX S360 http://www.gearbest.com/smart-watches/pp_203904.html although I haven't decided to buy either of them and may well wait until Omate Roma/Racer are available.
Edited to add: there is also the RWatch R11 http://www.gearbest.com/smart-watches/pp_203002.html which looks good value.

Testing is how I killed a number of "IP67" smartwatches. BTW, it's illegal to market as IP67 unless it's actually IP67 certified.

I have a Roma, it is almost the exact same size as the Panerai Radiomir 1940 Acciaio 42mm it was modeled after. And the transflective display that I suggested they use is readable even by the light of a TV. (1/12s f/2.0 3200ISO). It's only real flaw is , like other MT2502 smartwatches, it's BT connectivity is spotty. Which may be due to MTK no giving a crap. But no surprise there.

I've been wearing a Mimi mi-w3 for the last five months and that's convinced me that I would't go back to a non-transflective screen, hence my interest in the Roma, plus I like the Panerai style case. I'm just not sure I can justify spending twice what the Mimi cost me, for much the same functionality, simply to have a circular alternative to wear.
I can't help thinking that there must be some big problems with MT25xx, with the number of cheap companion watches using them how come all the cheap standalones that have appeared since Aster was launched are still using the old feature phone chips?
Thanks @Pseud O'Nym and @Lokifish Marz for the hints, seems like I seriously missed a lot of the new circular smartwatches generation from china. Will try to have a closer look at them . About the IP certification: I guess especially NO.1 does not care about those western regulation .
About the July 7 update I noticed 3 more things:
-The shutter icon in the camera app is not anymore between Options and Back, but now placed on the middle right side. Way better, since before it was hard to aim and not hit Options or Back.
-Shutdown animation is now in a kind of Samsung style
-I found out how the UV-"Sensor" works: If you open the UV-App and click "Measure", it will state "Measuring..." for a few seconds and then show on a scale something like "Low", "Normal" or "High". Well, I found the UV-Sensor . The app is simply time depended. If you switch the time to noon and sync it, the UV-App will return a high level after "measuring". If you switch it then to midnight and sync it again, it will return "low" .
Can you try to receive a call using a Bluetooth earphone? Does s2 show the caller id?

Newsmy Carpad 4

Just a place holder for now. I rec'd my test/sample unit today. I took it out of the box just long enough to snap a photo or 2 to send to a friend. Nothing detailed worth posting here yet. I'll try to take better photos this evening, and might even try to get wired into the truck.
Of note: It looks just like the NU/NR3001. Same screen size, same buttons. It also came with a dash cam with a dedicated harness/plug. I haven't investigated the underlying connection type (USB, Composite, etc).
Will post more details and clean up this OP as I do.
Thanks two-head/three-arms. Looking forward to it!
First look. I have a few software/language issues to solve before I put this in my truck, but here's a quick runthrough:
I can't watch properly at work but those Bonovo apps look very familiar.

Hey. It is not clear, and where a slot for a SIM card. Look on their website in China http://www.newsmy-car.com/product/showproduct.php?lang=cn&id=75
Thanks for posting. I am wondering if they packaged the main board in an NR housing as the new one is not yet ready, and this is a sample. Just a guess as the one on the web page looks a little different and it definitely needs a slot for a sim card. Seems like they made very little change to the MCU portion if the same code runs on it; stating that based on version number. Dash camera specific slot is of course new but all other cables are identical to the ones I received with my NR. If you get a chance please test USB behavior on shutdown. Thanks!

There is indeed a SIM slot inside. You have to void warranty to get to it though? I'm now starting to also wonder if this isn't the final chassis.
I'm also very frustrated in that the only USB Connection is on one of the small harnesses and it's USB-Female A. Which means I need an Male A to Male cable to connect to my computer. Since that is technically against USB Spec, I didn't have one of those. Started to cut a few cords apart and make one, but decided to just order one from Amazon instead. Will be here in a couple of days. Hopefully I can sideload Play services and get some real apps on here, check out ADB, etc.
I can't put this in my truck until I am able to load G-maps and/or Waze and G-play Music or Power amp, etc.

Definitely looks hacked together. The main board is much smaller than the NR one. I think they would take advantage by packaging in a smaller chassis. No heatsink on the one you have; the NR one is not adequate as is if you run all four channels at moderate to high volumes.
Does it really only have 1 GB RAM, as listed on the webpage?
Be careful with the USB you order. Several people have had issues with cables longer than 3ft. You should have gotten a second USB cable with it and too bad they did not give you the 5.1 cable (sticker shows it has the output).
hello, I am also curious. the Carpad 4 has really only 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal space ?? For me to have 1 GB would be a total regression.

What I saw is a failure . The device really is not ready at all. And what they want from you? What is the test? Here it is necessary to refine the mind is still lots and lots. 1GB of RAM is not serious at all. My NU 1GB of memory and I want to buy a new unit with 2GB of RAM, 1GB is not too much and not enough.

Where do you think the SOC is? I think it must be on the same board as the sim (underneath the MCU board or on the underside) as the SOC they are using has built in 4g/Bluetooth/wifi and all the antennae are all originating off that board. I am guessing that black overhang off the back are the external 4g antennae?
This is my Carpad 4 . It has simcard slot in the unit. We need to open cover to insert simcard - this is so fun! And we have somethings more:
1- This unit haven't Chplay to install app from market; may be in final version they will update this. I have only head unit for tester
2 - xposed additions (one of the most interesting module for exposed framework on our car) will not work at all. So we can't use this exposed addition module to do something as carpad 3. We will ask Newsmy do keyeditor can function as addition xposed.
3 - Ram 1Gb - this is downgrade product from carpad 3
The good new is Camera has got verry good quantily (HD camera 720p or 1080P)

I have this unit in my hand, so if someone needs more pictures , I will take
The 1GB seems to be the only real downside so far. But, that may or may not affect real world performance. I'm still trying to sort out a few things before I put it in the truck full time. Then I can see if the RAM degrades performance.
The camera additions are pretty neat, and I'm waiting to see how this 'New Yan' remote app works (I can't get logged in).
I cut their rear camera harness and tried to wire in my existing OEM rear cam (I REALLY don't want to run their camera to the back of my truck!), but that didn't work on my initial test. The front/DVR cam is pretty neat. I was able to sideload Waze, and will make another stab at sideloading Google Play services this weekend.
I'll take some more pics/videos when done.
I know some are dismissing this device due to the 1GB, but I'd suggest holding off on judgement. What myself and @ngochoangimsat have is an early engineering build. If we give them good feedback, the final product might be well worth having.

That's what I'm hoping. I still think the NR is a pretty great device with xdAuto on it (with the stock ROM I could never get it to stop reporting "Main activity has stopped".
Unrelated I am curious about the relationship between Bonovo and Newsmy. Is Bonovo a supplier to Newsmy. The MCU board on the 4 actually says Bonovo, not Newsmy!
Another test video:
I also came up with a really crazy idea. I was working on a friends NR5002 getting ready for his install next week. Realize that all the Nu/NR and Carpad4 chassis and screens, etc. should be interchangeable. I have an NU5002 with no android box to power it... and of course I prefer the 8" screen to the 7" universal so ......
Tearing them all down now.... Could be able to make a Carpad4 version of my NU5002
Well, crap. I broke it.
The 8" screen from NU5002 does work. The chassis parts are not quite as interchangeable as I had hoped. I could force it to work, but still had a few too many issues to solve, so I went to put it back together in original form. Unfortunately, the LCD ribbon connector is in a vary precarious spot and it evidently lifted away from the board at some point during my trials. I tried to superglue it back to the board, and can get video to display if I put just the right amount of pressure on the cable, but as soon as I let go, it quits.
Back to square one.

sorry, it is possible that it will come in handy.

Very interesting, I too have a NU5002 and would love an 8" version. Is it still mostly empty with circuit boards on the bottom? This would help me as I need to modify the case and maybe remove the screen from the rest to make it fit in my car.
Software wise, is it lollipop with a kit kat base like I've seen other manufacturers do?
Syncing text from phone to head unit seems like a neat feature. Any idea of back porting it to previous units? Honestly that should already be implemented in Android natively.

There are three modes in the G8. Phone, bracelet, watch. The phone mode is for independent use, you need to insert a sim card. The bracelet is for companion, you can connect it to your phone. The watch mode is for the time feature. In order to manage the battery life, the three mode setting is very convenient, even insert a sim card you can choose the watch mode, and it will shut down all the radios, so that the battery life will be much longer.
And the removable straps, you can change the straps by yourself. In the package, there will be two straps, you don't need to buy extra straps. The vivid color straps can be used for sports, and the classic black one is the business style. You can change it with your mind.
And the sports feature, it supports Heart rate monitor, Sleep monitor, Sedentary reminder, Blood pressure, Pedometer, Drink a reminder. The heart rate monitor and the Blood pressure measuring, these two features are very helpful, you can check your personal health situation. You just need to wear it and click the Measure button. Also the Sleep monitor, go to the history, comparing the different results you’ll find out how to sleep well.
Here aree some parameters of the G8.

Check this tutorial. You need a win 7 computer to make a firmware update.

I've received mine today. Some Impressions of a few hours of usage.
Only 3 watchfaces? Are they serious? Its 2017 an storage is cheap........
Fundowear is such a pain. No support for blood pressure. Thats wat i bought it for.
By the way. measures of bP is not accurate. sytholic too high.
Since now, i think i wasted my money. I wanted an alternative for my fitness bracelet. But this is a piece of crap, i think.
But there is also a good point. The red strap looks really good.
Is it possible to change strap with metalic strap?

Yes, the universal straps, 22 mm width straps will be competiable with it.
You can get free straps for your G8 here.

This watch only sends notifications from apps like Whatsapp, FB, etc that you received them. However, actual notification content is not shown. Is there a way to fix this?
Click the notifications, you can read the content, but whatsapp content will not be shown....

noob needs help with g8 smartwatch
I just received my g8 today. 1 my laptop will not recognize it. It will make a sound when i plug it in but nothing ever pops up on screen as a new connected device. Cant locate the watch no where in the file explorer. I've tried a different USB cable but I noticed the stock mirco usb tip is longer than any micro usb that I have laying around. None of mine are long enough to make a connection when plugged into the watch. 2. The watch will not connect to my ear buds (treblab J1) it will pair but will not connect. I"m pretty aggravated, I've been up all night searching for answers. I found the chinawatch website, but I guess I'm way out of my league to update the firmware using their process. (imo its super complicated, reminds me of when i rooted my droid dx2, I left rooting alone after that, I'm not computer smart enough for that), what happened to drag and drop, plug and play?). Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Signed tired and out of time.
no!!!!
