Today my phone randomly started emitting a high pitched tone and it seems to be coming from the charger port. I have the sound muted. I've checked alarms and alerts and have disabled them along with some apps. Nothing is working.
I have begun hearing something possibly related. Sounds like an electrical buzz when i touch the screen while charging.

Hi guys,
I've found a very interesting sound effect on my O2 XDA Mini (=Magician). I've been having the phone for a few days only, but right from the very first calls I noticed that the speaker creates a very high frequency continuous beep-sound, not loud of course, but crazy high, something like the well-known side effect of the old CRT TVs. At first I thought it is produced during a conversation. Then today, I held my phone to my ears without any calls, and guess what: the beep is there. It's produced always!
I started to look around, and had a hunch that the LCD backlight can be the problem. I played a little with the backlight setting and found that I was right, the sound is poduced only when the light is set to low. It's loudest at the first notch of the light slider, and gets more and more quiet as you set the backlight higher.
Now I wonder if it's a special problem with my phone (like some bad quality filtering somewhere in the power electronics of the backlight system) or if it is the same with your devices.
Please try it and post your comments. Listen closely! And try both ears (not kidding), the sound is very quiet and very high in frequency, so your ears may not be up to the task to pick it.
Have to be honest I can't get a quite second at the moment but I'm pretty sure I've noticed this noise before as well. Another noise which can be irritating is the GSM radio module and it's intermitting buzzing (a quiet version of what you hear when unshielded speakers pick up your signal).
So basically I'm not sure but I think it's a generic issue with the backlight
Hi,
I found that too....
it's quite irritating as it looks like an old TV turned on.
I hope that won't be a problem to our ear in the future
Hi guys,
Bought a Shift x9000 (cdma) a couple of weeks ago. Really like it.
However, today it started making a strange noise--something like static, something like hissing. It's not the fan noise, that's quiet. I also note that the sound icon in the tray stops responding or responds very very slowly.
It's not a constant noise...will come on for a few minutes then go off, then come on suddenly again.
Any thoughts??

Disabling and the enabling the sound card driver stops the sound temporarily. Also, related or not while the noise is on, the Shift control ctr. becomes very unstable..
I got my Google Nexus 4 yesterday. Today, when I was making call, I noticed mild buzzing noise from the phone speaker. I thought it was due to the call, but i could hear it even when I was not in a call. I then rebooted the phone, the mild buzzing sound was still there.
The noise does not seem to be there when the phone screen is locked, but as I press the power button, I can hear the noise.
I don't hear the noise in the headphones though. I was not charging the phone when I heard the noise.
Does anybody else have this issue?
I have this too. It's a low buzzing sound coming from the ear speaker even when the phone is on lock.
This is already being discussed here

So today I was in the living room with no one around or other noise, and was talking on the phone laying on my side and just having the phone lay on top of my ear. When the conversation stopped and the person on the other end hung up, I noticed that there was some very faint buzzing noises coming from what appears to be the inside of the phone.
I did some experimenting and found that when my phone is on, there is a buzzing/humming noise that's really only audible from the earpiece speaker. The closest thing I could compare the sound to is a hard drive reading or writing data. Right after turning the screen off, the buzzing/humming changes to a higher-pitched crackling that has alternations (like some computers where you plug headphones in and can hear buzzing whenever you move the mouse or do something). About 5-10 seconds with the screen of it turns to a solid high-frequency whine (like what you get with some USB wall charger bricks, but actually more comparable to something like the tire squeal of a car doing a burnout).
Has anybody ever witnessed this? These are quite high-frequency and VERY faint sounds so some people might have it but not be able to hear it with their ears themselves, but it's just something that I noticed.
I hear it too, it's so cool to hear the raw processes taking place within a microchip! Nothing like it at all.
My 6p has developed a high pitched tone when plugged into the charger. The tone is so high in frequency that it is almost above human ear +22,000 Hz, young folks hear it louder than this old guy. This happens every time when plugged into various charging devices; stock, mobile, and other chargers including computer tether. It's not coming from the charger.
The tone lasts for exactly thirty seconds out of both speakers, then there is pop and the tone mutes.
I can plug the charger in wait 10 seconds then remove the power from the USB-c plug, and the tone will continue without external power for 20 more seconds. Always ending after 30 Seconds.
Adjusting volume level changes the audible tone level up and down. At 3/4 volume or lower I can't hear the tone anymore. I run volume at max most of the time since the speaker level has always seamed low to me ever since I bought the device.
When hooked to my mobile in-car blue tooth the tone will seize car stereo audio for the 30 seconds until the tone quits. The tone is outside the the bluetooth/radio high passband, so I only hear the tone through the speakers on the phone.
This problem started just after 7.0.1 dropped and also just after my 12 month warranty
I have search the interwebs, but can't find others with the same problem. Anyone else?
Thanks,
