Camera glass scratching - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Does anyone have issues with the camera glass scratching?
Sent from my Mi MIX 2 using Tapatalk

nope , well protected by case

I do. When I bought the phone, during 2 days while waiting for a case the mobil was not covered by any kind of protection. I was very, very careful, beleive me, but then I saw some scratches on the camara glass... The scratches are thin and not seen easily, only from some angles but they are there.

Screen scratches

Has anyone noticed the screen can be scratched relatively easily? I have somehow managed to drop my phone on to the floor once and now the screen has a hairline scratch across the centre. So I'm annoyed. The old note seemed more durable.

It's not a durability thing as much as it's pure luck. No two drops are identical so all those drop tests and stuff are pure crap. Besides, you actually dropped the phone so you can't blame anyone but yourself.

Sorry to hear that...
Gorilla Glass is not scratch proof, that's why I always use a screen protector!

I understand that and know its no one's fault but my own. My old note 1 was subject to a years abuse and had less scratches than the new note 2 has after a week. It just disappointed me a little. I know they aren't invincible but a scratch after a small drop disappointed me a little you know.

Gorilla glass has a level 7 in mosh scale. All over it will scratch your screen.
It's hardened glass, not adamantium.

I upgraded my note 2 to a full diamond screen, was prefect until my wife scratched it on her earring... Maybe they should make a full it a full energy feedback display, no mass to get scratched that way but the battery life might drop a notch.

All my phones since the Nokia N8 haven't had a single scratch on them. That's why I don't buy screen protectors, they look ugly, they feel different than glass and I just don't like them. I gifted my little brother that N8, then gifted my girlfriend my ex SGSII and she then sold it without scratches, now she owns a SGSIII without scratches. My Note 1 was with me for 5 months and when I sold it had zero scratches.
Now my Galaxy Note 2 has about 2 weeks of use and it already has 2 little tiny scratches on the screen. It doesn't bother me as you can't see them on normal use and just when you look at the glass from one particular angle, but the scratches are there. Very very small, very very light, but is there. I took the same care as with any of my previous phones so my guess is that Samsung used the properties of Gorilla Glass 2 to make the phone thinner and not stronger, and now it scratches more easily. Since those 2 little scratches my Note2 is always on my case now and hasn't developed any extra scratches. But like I said, neither of my previous phones had any scratch at all, the Nokia N8 and SGSII were amazing since I used them a lot and them my brother or my GF kept using them quite a lot and not a single scratch. The Note 1 was with me for just 4-5 months. The Note 2 screen is definitely a bit more prone to scratches.
TL; DR:
The Note 2 screen is more prone to scratches from my POV. Older phones that I had I sold without scratches after more than a year of use. Note 2 is 2-3 weeks old and with 2 almost non noticeable -but existent- scratches.
Gorilla glass two is more harder than gorilla glass 1 and hence more susceptible to dust scratches. No doubt itbwill give u more protection from nails, keys and other metallic stuff but gorilla glasses are not resistant to Scratches caused by dust and G2 is more prone to it. So keep it safe from dust and i would say that its better to get a screen protector than regretting.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I got few scratches just by wiping it with a cloth.for future, is it possible to replace just the glass
After my recent experience with S3 I realized it was worth buying investing in the screen protector.
Get one and save yourself from the pain. My S3 got scratched even without being dropped.

This could not be more wrong. GG2 has the same characteristics as GG1 but is 20% thinner. That's supposed to be the innovation here.
It's just a matter of luck. No matter how you try to spin it. If your screen comes in contact with something harder than it is such as sand (not regular dust) then it will get scratched.
http://m.corninggorillaglass.com/smartphone/#_InnovatingWithGorilla
Sand in particular is the weakness of gorilla glass. A single grain of sand floating around in your pocket will cause mayhem with the glass. In fact sand will scratch the glass more than keys or coins will.

Using stock screen protectors permanently a bad idea?

I'm planning on using the stock front, back, and side screen protectors for my new Nexus 4 but have not seen many people doing the same. Is anyone using the stock protectors or is there harm doing so long-term? I am planning on using this with a the Exact Armour Case (sold on Amazon) too...
The front protector ist often not applied very well and has symbols für Volume an Power printed on it.
The back protector fits perfectly.
Iam only using them till they fall off^^ I dont think they will last very long.

Why would you want to use them? It's got Gorilla glass 2, so it's not like it's gonna get scratched easily. The only protection you could get is against hitting and the screen protectors can't help you there.
Pretty certain that there's no side protectors. I'm still using the stock protectors until my BSE ones arrive. Problem is they are designed to be removed easily, especially the back one, so it's actually already coming loose just because my hand grazes the removal tab.

Because it's been established that the glass still scratches easily, even though it's marketed as gorilla glass. Mine got 2 micro scratches before I decided to put a screen protector on - it's a common issue.
Gorilla Glass is quite resistant to scratches from the key or coins (in your pocket) but a simple grain of sand can make visible scratch on it! I used stock screen protectors but they started to come off after a week, so I bought Spigen Dual Ultra Crystal for my Nexy and I'm definitely satisfied with it.:victory:

Some of the phones were coming with protectors around the sides too, some weren't.
How is the friction of the finger to the screen then? Is it much worse than without using a protector?

using the stock screen protectors is probably the worst thing you can do. They're not really even screen protectors at all. They are much more flimsy and thinner then a screen protector and why would you want to keep them on when the front has the buttons printed on them and the back has the IMEI on it. If you want protection get the SGP dual protector.

Holiday proof my phone?

What's the best way to holiday proof my phone to protect it from sand etc? Some sort of special case?
Screen protector is probably a must.
Something to cover charging and headphones ports?

tempered glass is a screen protector that can be as strong as glass, for example if you are using it and you drop your phone and the tempered glass gets cracked you phone screen would be left intact, watch pass 3min mark
That's good. Looks like a gel type case should be enough. With a tempered glass screen protector. Just ordered port covers too for charger and headphone ports. They are for an S3 but exactly the same ports so should be fine.
I just don't want sand to scratch the phone or clog up any ports.

yea screen protector is very important when going to beach I learned this when I got the lifeproof case for my s3(nuud which I liked because it was waterproof and you had direct access to touchscreen) sadly sand doesn't agree with gorilla glass it scratches it like a cat and it's scratching post so tempered glass will help you just have to be careful with cases because the tempered glass is somewhat thicker than a regular screen protector and if you have a case which meets a specific size and rest on screen it may not fit together with tempered glass
Thanks for the help and suggestions. If anyone else wants to input further please feel free.

To the OP, no it doesn't come with one from factory.
Mine came with a screen protector from canada

The device is provided with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 glass protection.
If you scratched it although that protection you better had then to apply a tempered glass like i.e iCarez or Ultimate Shield instead!

Was it new or second hand because the G3 shouldn't come with one.
I installed the iCarez 0.2mm tempered glass protector on mine. Cannot tell its there. The Verizon shipping plastic was getting rather chewed up.
It's very tough and easy to clean i say:good:
before mine got a replacement digitizer for dead pixels, it's always naked for a month.

and about factory screen protector, i think it doesn't have any. from the looks of "lg g3 drop test" in youtube

keys destroy only the size case and back..it wouldnt destroy the screen...dust and sand like particle kill the screen..
gorilla glass is harder than steel..but if you wipe it with a little tiny sand/rock...you will see how it destroy the screen

I was also baffled why mine was scratching so easily, than closer look I realised that there's a thin protective film that's on it when new, this needs to be removed.

I picked at the corner of my sensors for a solid 5 minutes. It felt like I was going to peel off the glass/plastic lens. Definitely didn't seem like there was any protective film, and if there was, they sure don't want it removed... T-Mobile variant here.
