Block Updates, disable advertising, downgrad 5.6.0.1 HD8 6th Gen - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an Amazon Fire HD8 Tablet 6th Gen and it has at the moment FireOS 5.6.0.1 on it.
After the first time I started it it wanted to update immidently, that why I shuted it down.
So my questions are:
What can I do at the moment?
How do I block Updates? If it is not possible which addresses should I block on my router?
How can I diseable the advertising?
Root is at the moment not possible with 5.6.0.1 can I downgrade?
Many thanks in advice!
Kind regards,

Fire hd 8 6th gen getting a force update

My kindle fire hd 8 6th gen just got a force update to 5.3.2.1 does any one know if it can be downgraded?
Reuben
I believe it CAN be downgraded to 5.3.1, but no one has posted the binary. Either way, 5.3.1 cannot be rooted either so I don't see a point in downgrading unless you want to get rid of Alexa.

Current Amazon Fire OS versions being delivered for the HD8 / HD10?

Hi - A friend is looking for a new tablet, and I was wondering if the currently shipping HD8 / HD10 are still rootable (as of 2017-MAR-01).
My HD8-6G was shipped with v5.3.1.0, but that may not be the case anymore.
Also, is the HD10 now a 6th Gen device being shipped with Fire OS v5.3.1.x? Or, is it still a 5th Gen device (and maybe still rootable)?
Thanks,
¿GJ?
Someone mentioned having sent in an HD8 6th gen after bricking it and getting one with the newest firmware. I guess it all depends on luck now if you get a device that's still rootable. If you absolutely depend on it, i'd wait until a method is discovered or choose another device.

Fire HD 8 (7th gen) US vs. Canada

Edit: I adb sideloaded the Canadian firmware and it completely bricked my device!
If you go to Amazon.ca you will notice that the latest firmware for fire 8 HD (7th gen) is 5.6.0.1 and not 5.6.2.0:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202144610
vs.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202144610
I live in Canada, my current version is 5.6.2.0 but it's acting up (Screen turns on right after I turn it off! some weird Alexa notifications randomly pop up...). Is it possible to downgrade back to 5.6.0.1 using the provided link? or should I just patiently wait for 6.3.0.1 instead of risking bricking my device? Is there even a difference between the US and the Canadian version of the device / firmware?
Are we even going to get 6.3.0.1?

Fire 10 on 5.6.0.1: best to root now, update to 5/6/0/2 and root or other

Sorry somehow screwed up 5.6.2.0 to 5/6/0/2 in the title! If a mod sees this could you fix my title, thanks!
I've got a new Fire HD 10 on 5.6.0.1. Is best practice here to:
Root it now and disable updates?
Update it to 5.6.2.0 (assuming this is the most recent OS version), root it and then disable updates?
Root it now, let it update to 5.6.2.0, root it again and then disable updates?
Thanks!

If you rolling back the Fire OS version, will cause a brick.
You can root using exploit (follow the step carefully): https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/orig-development/unlock-fire-hd-8-2017-douglas-t3962846

The rooting thread can be confusing, as the OP assumes an older version of FireOS. It is still easy to root 5.3.7.0 though.
Look specifically at posts 272, 377 and 472 which specifically list which files to download from the OP and have all the steps required to root 5.3.7.0

im having trouble understanding the thread as it states
NOTE: If you are already rooted, continue with the next step, otherwise get mtk-su by @diplomatic from here and place (the unpacked binary) into amonet/bin folder
STATUS
Confirmed Working
Fire HD 8 7th gen (2017) -- up to Fire OS 5.6.4.0 build 636558520 only
Note that for Fire OS 5, OS version 5.3.x.x is newer than 5.6.x.x.
there is no root my OS/Build ?
I got the error, "This firmware cannot be supported". What do I do?
This means that your device's firmware is not prone to the mechanism used by mtk-su. Check the firmware version and build number of the OS on your device. If your version is higher than that next to your device on the list above, then mtk-su will no longer work on your device. There may be other ways to achieve root. Check elsewhere on the forum.

mtk-su vulnerability was patch by Amazon, and is no longer a valid method to obtain root on firmware 5.3.7.0.
Download brick-douglas.zip and amonet-douglas-v1.2.zip from the OP. Then from linux, run the steps as outlined in post 377. You do not need to open the tablet.
Amazon messed up the version numbers. 5.3.7.1 is actually the most current firmware version, even though numerically, it comes before the versions that the mtk-su exploit worked on
Ok im not happy at attempting this, i cant afford to brick this tablet
Instead of having to root thru the forums for bits and pieces of information
I would like if someone could give me a dummies guide / rundown to rooting and installing mods to this tablet
It would be very helpful to me and possibly many others
Thanks in advance

What fireOS version are you on? this will be the key to having to open the device or a software exploit. To be clear, you have a 8hd (2017) - Douglas correct?

You might have to do the hardware option. I seen that kingoroot was rooting the hd10 (2017) so that might be an option if you dont want to open the device.
Attempt to get root with this, dont reboot if is works, Run the first step...
