Unsuccessful S8 root, am I out $800? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi,
I purchased a locked Samsung S8 G950U in July from AT&T. I was disappointed to learn there wasn't a root out for it yet, but figured I could live with it until a root was released. I checked XDA yesterday and saw that a relatively simply root method had been posted. I tried following the PartCyborgRom method for rooting the phone. I was able to get into download mode and load into BL. I then followed the instructions and loaded in the AP file. The phone then asked if I would like to reboot. I was very happy as it appeared I had successfully gained root access. I rebooted the phone.
Now, the samsung logo pops up, but with lots of junk at the top. It then goes into a screen which shows "KERNEL PANIC" and several other errors. Seemingly ranomdly, I am able to get back into the download mode warning screen. I have tried the SamFAIL and SamPWNED methods to root since then, but none have worked.
What should I do? Can someone help me successfully root the phone? If someone is able to help me root the phone, I can offer a small bounty reward as loing as it is not against the rules.
edit: If someone would like to walk me through the root one on one, please PM me and we can go to discord or the client of your choice

You can unroot using official rom or using smartswitch. and for yor model cant help you much there is not much for the snapdragon models.

But on the other hand i had a look in the guide of the rom for your device and is not as easy as you say there is several steps you had to do also did make sure you flashed the righ modem and bootloader for your device do you hace working costom recovery on you device ??

Also, if you don't need rooting that much, I think you can revert back to stock firmware using ODIN?

If you followed the directions as clearly written in the OP of the thread then you did not do what you said above, as those are much certainly the directions. There is also discussion in the op and throughout the thread your exact problem is and what to do about.
They are all right though, easiest and most direct method is to just flash stock. Partcyborgrom uses the SamFail method (hint: i developed both) and sampwnd is v1 firmware only

buying a new razr m to root?

I'm entirely new to anything phone/development related so I apologize for my ignorance (I also apologize if this is in the wrong section). I've had a razr M for about 2 years now and I'm entirely content with it except after the last update I can no longer use my foxfi for wifi access. From what I understand I can't root my phone and downgrade from this operating system so my question is this: Can I buy a new one off ebay for ~$100, root it and use foxfi (or some other free wifi tether) while keeping my unlimited data and not "bricking" it? The battery on my current phone has gone to crap anyways and I was considering buying a replacement phone considering they're only ~$100 anyways.
It's a pain in the but trying to figure all of this out with only limited time to browse the internet at work and trying to sort the 100's of pages of info from my phone.
Is this feasible? Are there certain things I need to verify about a phone before I buy it to make sure I can complete this process?
Thanks in advance,
Rory
If you're on the latest firmware, you CAN root with Towel Root and unlock with Motopocalypse. Then you can downgrade back to JB. There's a method posted by @bweN diorD somewhere in this forum.

Thanks RikRong! How do I know if I'm on the latest firmware (does that just mean the latest operating system? My phone says 4.4.2 so I'm assuming that's a yes)? Sorry, there's a thousand new terms and I'm struggling to take in what this all means.
When it comes to trying to root my phone, since I have no more foxfi I also don't have a way to have internet access on my computer/tablet to walk me through the rooting process/assist me if something goes wrong with the... would you think it's intuitive enough/fullproof that if I print out the thread I can just follow it through and shouldn't have issues? Also, I looked through the first 4 or 5 pages in this forum and didn't find any threads started by "bweN dior" but I'm probably just overlooking what I'm looking for. Do you know what the thread was titled?
Thanks,
Rory

actually, i didnt make a guide for this model. i made it for the hd/maxx hd. the root and bootloader unlock is the same and you can use those files, but you can NOT use any of the phone specific software in the guide or you will likely brick your phone.

Yeah, I saw that it was someone else that made the guide for the M, but I like how yours is set-up. I was going to point him to your thread in the HD forum for rooting and unlocking, then refer him to guide in the M forum for downgrading. Use Bwen's guide to use Towel Root and Motopocalypse. Get TWRP from here: http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/msm8960/TWRP2710-RAZR_M-KITKAT.img and flash a SU zip to gain permanent root. Then use this guide to downgrade: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786016 .

Okay, I'm trying to start this process. From my droid, I downloaded http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/msm8960/TWRP2710-RAZR_M-KITKAT.img but immediately I'm encountering problems. My phone says it cannot open this file. I'm already dreading this is going to be difficult/dangerous...
Why can't I open this file? Also, what is flashing a SU zip?
There is far too much about this I don't understand.
I am willing to pay someone to root a razr m for me. Do I have any takers?
Towel Root and Motopocalypse are both apps that you can download to the phone and then run. They're just apps, so they are as easy as opening the app then running. You need to use Towel Root, then Motopocalypse to unlock, and then you can install TWRP. If you don't want to use fastboot to install recovery, then you can flash it with Rashr or Flashify. Just download TWRP and place on your external SD, no need to open or extract it. Flash it with one of those apps. Once you're rooted and unlocked, you should be able to use that guide to downgrade.

just use the tutorial i posted before as a guide, substituting the files @RikRong gave you for the recoveries.
i just updated the guide to include a complete step by step for flashing the recoveries and su zip.
the only thing you will need is fastboot and adb in the same folder with your recovery file.
the guide instructs to use adb and fastboot from my script, but you wont have my script. thats why you need to grab adb and fastboot from google.
its not difficult, you just dont understand what needs to be done. you dont open the recovery with the phone booted up. just read the guide and subsequent link to the step by step and you will quickly see where you are going wrong.

just a quick disclaimer for those not following along, ^^^^^ the firmware and recoveries in this guide are for the 926 only!!! use it for reference only!! any other files in the guide and the guide itself, is universal.

Now I think I got problems. I thought I had it all figured out with all of the walkthroughs. I have the phone in fastboot mode and I was flashing it with RSD for the previous firmware. It was going through the steps and on 7/20 it said failed flash. I tried again and now it says failed flash after 1/20. I'm afraid to try and boot the phone. What should I do?

It says USB error. I unplugged it from the computer and tried it again. It's step 7/20 "flash modem "non-hlos.bin" where it is getting screwed up.

Yes. I think? I did these steps successfully
-----------------------------------------
2. BOOTLOADER UNLOCKING
-----------------------------------------•Download Towel Root [XDA] [WEBSITE] - Disregard if you have previously rooted using Towel Root
•Download Motopocalypse [WEBSITE] [DOWNLOAD]
•Place both on external SDcard
•Install and run Towel Root
•Follow any in-app prompts
•Reboot
•Install and run Motopocalypse
•Follow any in-app prompts
•Reboot
•PROFIT!
My error specifically says this:
Failed flashing process. 7/20 flash modem "non-hlos.bin" -> USB error occurred while reading/writing.
I unplugged it and tried another USB port and it went through all the steps 20/20. Then it rebooted my phone and the phone says "please wait, this may take a few minutes". After several minutes RSD told me to "manually power on the phone". Since the phone was never shut off I couldn't do this so I unplugged the USB and replugged it in thinking maybe there was another USB error. RSD has now finished and says result is "PASS". However my phone still says "please wait, this may take a few minutes". Should I let me phone be or should I restart it?

power + volume up + down rebooted me to a screen that asked me to select my language (just as before). After selecting English it goes back to the "please wait this make take a few minutes" screen.
It's working!!!! I just ran RSD again (and this from the start on a usb 2.0 port as I read 3.0 can screw it up). This time it worked like a charm! I'm back on jellybean and posting from my laptop through a foxfi connection from my phone! SO thankful for this and those who did the write ups/walk throughs and posted in here! I got a lot of apps and setting to update ahead of me ugh. I'm going to do some donating here for the help! Thanks to those who posted in this thread and the ones who made those write ups and the app developers!
How do I keep my phone from automatically updating back to KK?? I didn't let it update when KK originally came out (I just kept clicking postpone) until about a month or two later it just updated on it's own. Well my phone just started automatically downloading a system update again. I put it in airplane mode but how do I keep this update from happening again and getting screwed by KK again?

[Q] Galaxy Core Prime - SM-G360P - Root?

So I see there are a bunch of variants of this device... why? Any chance anyone has had any luck getting an G360P rooted?
I started another thread because I don't see this variant listed on the forums so far. Here is the software for it:
http://samsung-firmware.org/downloa...nt USA)/6e85/BST/G360PVPU2AOH1/G360PSPT2AOH1/
I have the Virgin Mobile phone, but Sprint and Virgin are usually the same, and this build matches mine.
I have tried everything -- KingRoot, KingORoot, Towel Root, iRoot, Etc.. no go. Was kinda hoping Root and CWM/TWRP would have been already available, but I assume all the variants make it a pain.
I have the Galaxy core prime from metro. I achieved root through Odin 3.10. Check all developer options like the untrusted sources and enabling download mode options as well as stay awake and whatnot. Put the trap kernel in the AP section of odin, boot your phone in download mode and press start.
If odin isn't doing anything you may need to check through your devoloper tools for anything that seems at all relevant to achieving root.

OK update on this. Twrp works to boot into recovery mode, through I am still unsure whether or not a custom kernel installed this way will brick it. As soon as I find a safe kernel I will update again.

Yes I GOT ROOT for this phone G360p mines a boost mobile variant. sprint owns boost mobile bla bla bla but our version G360p is the same regardless if its sprint, virgin, metro or whatever. anyways u can root this phone with kingo root...... use the PC version of kingo root not the apk. the apk wont root your phone but the PC windows version will. install all your drivers on a windows PC before running kingo root, leave your phone on and allow any requests kingo send to your phone while its plugged in vis usb, it will run and re boot your phone a few times then it will ask you if your sure about installing software, allow it and your phone should go itnto download mode and rebboot, if your phone does all that you should be rooted once it boots back up........
hit me up if you cant figure it out but i know it works cause im rooted with the same build your is.

ive been trying to install twrp or cwm on my g360p for some time now with no luck... ive read people are able to get other variants g360h, hu, f, to work with twp but those phones have different chip sets i think even though there the same phones basically, what twrp did you get to work on your phone? i found a twrp for sprint core prime lte but i cant get it to work on my prevail lte which is the same damn phone just a diff variant of it. maybe i need to open the .img file and remove and add my specific stuff that the sprint has different but i dun knw how to do tht
My G360P on Boost
Kingo root looks to be the most promising for the Samsung core Prime series I know that the apk you can request implementation for your specific model and architecture and they did just updated on the 11th of November however everything that I've read said the same as you which was to download the PC version and it's supposed to be the easiest hassle-free for noob developers I have it downloaded but I have not tried the PC version yet I was still hoping for the non PC root apk version but I may be trying that today I will keep you guys updated on how it goes wish me luck
If you want to lose King root and move on to Chainfire's supersu install supersu me let it wipe out the King root it will install Chainfire superuser and you will have full root without King root you may have to do it once or twice depending on your phone variant but i really admire your prime LTE 3 boost with this process and got full root access with Chainfire super su with no root exploit other than supersu

There are at least 4 different Core Prime phones. The early ones released 2014 early 2015 with KitKat were rootable using Odin. The SM-G361F was released 2015 with Lollipop 5.1.1,
and that phone can not be rooted!! Maybe SM-G360P is the same. No one knows why Samsung made 4 models (at least) of practically same phone. There are some differences inside, thats all. But nothing that stands out.
Chainfire's Autoroot WITHOUT TRASHING RECOVERY!
I created a variation of Chainfire's Auto Root (autoroot.chainfire.eu) by taking his version of the SMG530BT and the stock recovery of the SM-G360P.
I tested it with my "unrooted stock" Boost Mobile SM-G360P with firmware G360PVPU2AOH1 and G360PVPS2APE2 but I would recommend updating the phone to the latest firmware - G360PVPS2APE2.
Just follow the directions (I used windows 10):
1. Plug phone into computer with USB.
2. Make sure phone is powered down.
3. Hold Volume Down and Home buttons then press the Power button until "SM-G360P" logo appears and let go of the Power button only.
4. The phone should prompt if you want to go to "Download Mode".
5. Let go of all buttons.
6. Press Volume Up
7. Phone should enter download mode.
8. On computer download my modified CF Autoroot file: drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0BzMAcTVdvKEncjhYNHZLc2g0eFU
9. Unzip file into a folder.
10. Run odin.
11. Click on "AP"
12. Pick "CF-Auto-Root-coreprimeltespr-coreprimeltespr-smg360p.tar.md5"
13. File should pass verification.
14. Click on "Start"
15. Wait for "Download Mode" to finish and DO NOT UNPLUG PHONE!!!
16. Phone should reboot and flash "SM-G360P" about 3 times before going to "Android Update" dialog.
17. Wait for phone to boot.
18. Once booted you should see the new SuperSU app already on your phone.
Going to Recovery mode
1. Restart phone
2. Hold Volume Up and Home
3. Phone should boot into a working stock recovery!
Enjoy!

Does anyone know how to unlock the hotspot/tether. I get error "you are not sub. to hotspot service". Tried some root wifi apps, not working either.
Edit: NVM, figure it out
I have few questions:
1) - My Samsung is SM-G360T, instead of SM-G630P... Does it work anyway...?
2) - If I do it, I will be able to unlock my mobile from T-Mobile (USA), so I can use in other companies...?
3) - If I do it, I will loose all my data (contacts, apps, messages, etc)...?
Thanks in advance,

Samsung Galaxy J3 (SM-J320P) Virgin Mobile (or any carrier) Support???

Wondering if anyone in the know has heard of any development going on for this device? I recently bought one and it's not a bad phone for the price, but I've seen absolutely -nothing- on it anywhere online for the most part. It's barely root-able with what I've been able to find, and no custom recovery or really anything custom has popped up that I've seen.
Not sure if it's just that it's been only a few months since the phone came out, or if it's just not that great a phone. I upgraded from an HTC Desire 510 to this, and it was heavily customized/rooted/etc, and I want so badly to get back to where I was with it on this phone I cant stand it!
I also want to root my Galaxy J3! I just want to root it so I can use AdAway and Titanium Backup.

Right now rooting isn't the problem so much as keeping root. Because apparently the colonel has protection and will remove root whenever you reboot. That means things that require root on boot like backups, Xposed and a lot of other things won't work for us until someone complies a kernel with root protection removed. You can do some debloating and possibly the AdAway but that's about it right now.
*kernel. Damn voice to text.
That sucks. I upgraded from an LG Volt and I was able to do a whole bunch of stuff on it. The J3 is still very new, so hopefully development will happen soon.
I just got this phone if there is anything i can do to help move this along let me know. I have the virgin mobile one.

I guess that would depend on what you have experience with and what you can do. Thus-far root has been able to be achieved with Kingroot, though it wont stick through a power cycle (reboot/power off/etc), and using any of the methods available (at least that I'm aware of, only found two legitimate ones) to replace Kingroot with SuperSU (to facilitate having root stick past the reboot hopefully) causes a soft-brick every time forcing a re-flash of stock firmware through Odin.
At the very least make your voice heard, if nothing else hopefully more popularity will come this devices way and we'll see some development for it. My roommate is considering writing something for it, but it is a long process working solo, so anyone who has experience working with kernels or editing stock rom/writing custom roms feels up to helping out, shoot me a message and I'll get it over to him. He's a fairly experienced programmer and picks up what he doesn't already know pretty quickly.
Got one recently too. Would also appreciate any more information on rooting.
I have a J320A (AT&T) came stock with 6.0.1, can help test if needed

I know this is an old thread, just making my rounds looking for anything on the J3 myself (SM-J320P Boost, Virgin, etc...) and have found TWRP & permanent root with Chainfire's SuperSU (system-less though). Everything is great except a lag issue with supersu. There is an exposed by wanum that works as well. Only app that has root issue so far is ES File Explorer. If anyone is still looking hope this helps.

Will this version of TWRP work on the Att variant running 6.0.1? Is there a way to root that device yet?

Anything yet for J320A/Z models? (AT&T/cricket)
This version of TWRP won't work will it? Totally different phone?
EDIT: just realized the guy above has the same question... something tells me we won't see root on the ATT/cricket variants for a while.

Try official TWRP of galaxy J2. Your variant shares the same specs as J2. Others also did this to galaxy On5, it works 100%.
what about the
SM-J320VPP = the verizon pre paid planversion. any working roots for me yet?
oh pretty pleeeeeez

So can you confirm this method works? Does OEM unlock setting in dev options unlock the bootloader on AT&T variant? If so couldn't I temp root and flash TWRP via Flashify?

It doesn't work tried it 3 times. I even tried other ones no luck. They locked this thing down. Im surprise chainfire haven't tried this phone yet.
Hi, guys! I understand it was an old thread, but I was referred here from Reddit. I have a Galaxy J3 (SM-J3109) purchased in Mainland China (Service provider is China Telecom). I rooted it with Kingo Root. Kingo Root stated that it successfully rooted the device, but the phone OS had given me warnings about unauthorized access to the device or something.
One week later (I did *not* reflash the phone nor install any applications after I rooted the phone) I found the phone stuck in an annoying bootloop. The device status is still "official" and the Knox counter is still set at 0x0.
Now that it's bootlooping I'd like to know if it's possible to take the applications and files off the phone before I factory reset it. It's not looking hopeful as I read similar threads from 2012 saying that once other Android devices bootloop, getting stuff off of them is impossible. I tried using ADB to take data off the phone (while Odin3 was detecting it being connected to the PC) but ADB doesn't detect the phone. Should I try a different cable?

Best advice would be to try flashing the stock firmware with odin. That shouldn't delete any of your data and will usually fix a bootloop. You can Google your phones stock firmware and see if you can download it.

Thank you so much! I tried using Odin to flash a software update and it worked perfectly. The phone is back up and running and all of the files are still there!
Right now i have TWRP 3.0.2 with supersu and i havent lost root yet also had no problem switching between backups, xposed working fine and also overclock too with setcpu, im currently running 5.1.1 using j320FN but TWRP was from j320F, i will put up links to the files if any of you are willing to try its up to you.
TWRP flash through odin : http://www.mediafire.com/download/blk7qa90vs6wik3/TWRP_3.0.2-0_SM-J320F.tar.tar
Supersu flash through recovery then update through playstore then install busybox after through playstore : http://www.mediafire.com/download/cpv2c71cp11x41f/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323.zip
Remember to turn on usb debugging and turn on oem unlock before flashing recovery, also if you manage to get recovery press they grey box on the right to change language to english. Hope this might help somebody on here because we really need full root for everyone.

LG Stylo 2 (LS775) root?

I recently purchased an LG Stylo 2. It just came out and I am looking to root it. However, I have not found a way to root it, both manually and through any one-click software. I had an LG Volt before this, that I rooted manually. However, I have yet to come across any method to rooting the LG Stylo 2. Is there any method as of late?
nothing yet

TWRP / Bootloader

Heya - Yeah the boot loader will unlock from ads fastboot in a sec. the fastboot on the phone (I have the ms550 Metro version) is crippled, however. it will not fastboot boot so you can't just grab a twrp and test it by throwing it at it. I would like to test more, I'm willing to flash whatever since I know the download mode will let us fix all....I'm just trying to get a kdz file so I can have it in the background just in case I totally F it up
Obviously without the twrp I can't flash any of the su versions.
My spidey sense tells me it's not that far away for us. Just be patient. I love the phone ( I liked my G Stylo as well)

If I'm not mistaken I believe the phones are pretty much the same specs still aside from the camera. I have a bootable TWRP. If you run ATB you can boot into this trip without installing it I'd be more than happy to upload it for you guys. I believe the original maker was either Game Theory or DrakenFX.

It's worth a shot since download mode will fix anything but you just need that kdz file

Can you do that for us along with instructions? I'm kinda scared to do anything with my Stylo 2 since its basically untested and it is my daily driver.
Here ya go...boot zip with instructions
When you are supposed to boot the zip... Type in : fastboot boot.zip instead of twrpblah blah blah....i renamed it to be easier
Any way to flash this twrp thing your talking about without a comp..ill be honest ive only just started to root the last couple phones i owned and have tried to flash any kernels or roms or custom recoverys...but i really want to change up this stylo 2..and the opting out of adpotable storage lg sony and few others did is drove me crazy..i wish i woulds known before i bought this dumb thing

I'm confused. Does installing TWRP get us any closer to root? I mean it's good to be able to get a backup, but it's really root that I want.
Style 2
If boot loader is unlocked in a sence u can get root by pushing su right? And how do u get into factory recovery?
In the event that this fails (Since I have the Stylo 2 and not the Stylo) and my phone bricks, is there a program to de-brick?
Hmm, When I type in "adb reboot bootloader", my phone reboots. back to the lockscreen.
Mine does to I can put it in fast boot with out the PC but then can't get PC to find it that way

I think I goofed... bad. Sm-n900v 5.0 stock

Well the title says alot... let me explain..
I've got a note 5 and LG g5. This note 3 is an extra phone. So I figured I would root and rom it.
I started on 4.4.2 and it wouldn't boot...
Ran Odin 3.09 and loaded pl1...couldn't root.
Ran Odin 3.09 again with ob6. Root success.
I then followed instructions for unlock_n3 for the bootloader and also installed twrp.
Last night I went on a spree with roms trying to find a working rom with data... no success... I felt like I was doing something wrong so I went back to Odin and ran ob6 again which is where I'm at now.
In the process I dev'd my phone... and now I cannot get root and lost twrp in the process.
Did I eff up?
What's next from here? I don't care about Knox and like I said I've got 2 other phones both working and paid off. This is my "car phone". I use it for music and that's about it. That being said I would rather have working data instead of using my note 5 with Hotspot mode.
My device is now hlte... not hltevzw... I think I did something very wrong. Please halp.
If it helps I did take pictures along the way when running the unlock_n3 over adb. I've got the original emmc ID but I'm not sure if this step is reversable.
I also made a backup with twrp... but it seems my SD card was wiped at some point last night.
Please don't flame... I admit this was my stupidity and I'm sure I'm not the only one who makes mistakes. At this point I'll be happy with anything 5.0 and root. As I said above if Knox is a concern I don't really care. Phones paid off... and I've got a note 5 and when that dies I'll get a 7. Also have LG g5 as a backup.
What are my options now oh wise xda gods?
Edit: I ran arabictool again, and got a 5.0 not found error. Decided to try kingoroot, and it says succeeded, however upon running root checker, it says "Sorry! Root access is not properly installed on this device"
Edit2: After trying edit 1... im now im a bootloop, and I check vol+, home, and power and twrp is indeed gone.
When I get home I plan to Odin OB6 again, as it worked, and since i've already done it once I assume I cant do any further damage :\
Edit3: I've successfully flash back to OB6, and as expected, ive finally tripped knox. Damn near 5 years with a note 3, and JUST tripped it. Not bad if I do say so my self... although, theres still more work to be done :\
GGRRRR, I wont give up so easily! But I could use some advice

Thanks for the reply, as of edit 3, I am back on OB6, and cannot seem to get root. Are my chances better with OF1?
Ive tried yemen tools (says 5.0 not found)
I've tried kingo root (says successful, never reboots, and shows "this phone root isnt properly setup" when checking with root checker from joey kilm (think thats his name)
Does it matter my emmc ID is ending with 43100?
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/221482708063223809/378367914388094981/image.png <- image from unlock_n3 after success, emmc checker shows same value AFTER odin ob6 (this held, nothing else did)
Edit: After taking donc's recommendation of OF1, I am now able to run yemen tools. As a side note, I seem to have more bars of service with OF1... coincidence?
Edit2: I HAVE ROOT! on OF1 using yemen tools (downgraded from PL1 to OB6 finally to OB1 and it worked.) Now to re-unlock bootloader. Thanks guys for the support thus far, this is a journey and having qualified accomplices makes this SOOOO much easier.
So heres where im at now.. as a recap for personal use, and anyone else who may be on a similar path.
Start to finish, this is what I did, where im at now, and where I want to be by tonight
Got phone, 4.4.2 with bootloop, couldn't find 4.4.2 firmware online
Flashed 5.0 (PL1), no root available.
Flashed 5.0 (OB6) rooted, unlocked boot loader, twrp, played with roms, got frustrated, re-flashed OB6 and couldn't root again (seems flimsy)
Flashed 5.0 (OF1) rooted, unlocked boot loader, verified several times root is working. Installed SuperSu and busybox.
This is where im at now, about to install twrp since i've done this already with ob6, and was working fine (though, I would prefer to have philz, and multi rom slots)
This entire process i've been using Odin 3.09, Twrp 3.0.2-1. My note 3 has been changed to a dev ID ending in 3100 (see above posts) this seems to have held through entire process with multiple recoveries.
I am going to make a full backup (again...) and unlike last time... store this copy onto my PC instead of SDcard alone... this was my mistake, and I need to learn from it.
For the @dev's out there, is there anything I can provide to help this overall process and community in general? I'm fairly literate in adb/linux and have no issues running commands, uploading files, or anything similar.
Shout out to @donc113 above for stating the obvious (since i failed to search and find the proper methods) as well as giving me the kick in the pants I needed to push onwards and succeed. Thanks brotha. :good:

You're welcome. Just an FYI, the ending of the CID doesn't matter, it's the first 2 numbers that count, and they MUST be 15
I used Flashify (available on Google Play) to load TWRP... worked great (but you must have root and busybox installed to use it to flash TWRP)
