So I always assumed the battery drain was a hardware or software issue, especially as my X10 would often shut down on 40% power and refuse to stay turned on unless the battery were taken out for 5 minutes.
Rather than buy a new phone I thought I'd try a new battery (I have had the phone since August 2010) - just £3 from ebay, and since then my battery life has been astounding - I'm quite a heavy user, but would almost run out after 8-9 hours despite keeping everything off and only switching on 3g and wifi when necessary. Now I can leave wifi and 3g on all day, leave the phone at medium brightness setting and still have 40% after a 15 hour day of medium-heavy usage.
I used to get idle drain of 1% every 10-15 mins as well (unless the phone was rebooted), but that seems to have disappeared as well.
So before you give up on it, do try a new battery, especially if you've had yours over a year. If there's no effect, you've lost £3 and still have a spare on hand.

You think people on here throw their phone away because of battery drain,and it doesnt cross their minds to buy a new battery.....instead of buying a new phone.
I just hope your £3 battery doesnt damage your phone........or explode when youve got the phone in your pocket.......or during a call

Whats the size? i have a 1500mAh and a 2600mAh whats ur cpu settings also? looking for a good setup thanks in advance!

I would just like to confirm what OP wrote. Not only did my new battery (I got the 1800mah one from Mugen, $33) solve my battery drain, it also solved my mysterious reboots, lockups, and heat issues. My phone would regularly get up to 48 celcius, it would result in it automatically shutting off the charging. It was a pain in the butt when using GPS on long trips as I would have to have the AC run straight onto the phone just so it would still charge. It was like this from new. With the new battery it has not budged above 29 celcius with GPS navigation, 100% screen, bluetooth, music and sync all running at the same time, I am shocked!
In order to condition the battery I turned off the screen timeout ("No screen off" in the Market) so I could get it to drain to 5%, it lasts twice as long even with the screen on all the time then it did before I got the battery, feels like a new phone.
beware of cheap batteries
beware of counterfeit batteries. Ive read a bit about cheap batteries being inferior knock offs. You tube has several vids about how to tell the difference
I'm about to buy bigger battery for my x10i. Now I have original 1500 mAh. Do you, who already tested thease 2500 mAh bateries see the difference?

My phone starting doing the exact same thing... shutting down at around 40% so I order the Mugen 1800mAH battery as well. Should get it in a few weeks... I did see much cheaper batteries available but figured you get what you pay for, and the reviews on the Mugen batteries seem to be good so I spend the extra money for it. Looking forward to the extended battery life!
hello everyone, I'm a new note owner, I bought it used and I think it has two years on it, but it is in great shape. I noticed however, that the battery life isn't that amazing as people have told me, this coming from a Galaxy alpha user. I will leave screenshots of today's battery life and I think it isn't that amazing what it got
I've heard about battery miscalibration, is this really a thing? I can try and calibrated but I need to root it, & I wasn't really looking forward to reading it, since its lollipop on stock rom.
The screenshots are bellow of screen on time and total time, you can see that it's not consistent and I charge my phone two times a day.

I'm using lollipop official rom flashed on Odin via download mode, yes the rom is compatible with my country's frequencies so there's not really a problem there.
I notice however that the battery sort of goes down faster sometimes more than others, sometimes even going as far as draining 10% simply being on stand-by with LTE enabled for 2 hours in my pocket when I'm in class.
Is this normal behavior?
I don't think there is any such thing called miscalibration, I mean I am not sure, but well.
If your phone is 2 years old, then I think the battery has seen its life, time to get a new one mate.

However as the battery is old then Drain the battery to 5% power off charge fully unplug wait one hour top up charge and use .
Next step is new battery Anker brand is good .
Wiping battery stats/ supposed calibration has nothing to do with battery calibration and will make no difference .
Lithium-ion batteries last about 300-500 charging cycles, after that the risk of it dying increases exponentially. Some last 5 years, some 1. It depends on usage and environmental factors.
There is no such thing as recalibrating a modern lithium ion battery. It doesn't have a memory.
New battery costs about 20 quid, it should solve the problem.
Also, did you do a reset after the update? Updates can cause battery drain too, quite often.

No, I did not do a reset after the update. But I noticed this before updating to lollipop, I had to do some running around before I got home the day I bought it, and it was running KitKat 4.4. I got it with 93% of battery, walked home for a bit and was down to 65, went to the shopping and back, got home with 40 to 35%. (I bought the phone at around 5 pm and finally got home after going to the mall at around 8pm)

Then it's the battery, most likely.
I changed from Note 3 to s 6 edge plus recently
The battery drops 5% per hour overnight when not in use. If I go to bed with less than 40% battery at night I am sure to wake up with my phone switched off in the morning.
When in use with screen on, the battery drips one percent every two minutes. This is the worst battery life I have ever seen in a phone. I was a long loyal customer of samsung and this is my last samsung phone ever.

Please post your battery stats ? so we can have a better understanding of your problem. I suggest you install 'Doze' which should stop unnecessary apps from connecting to the internet and causing your phone to awake from deep sleep.

I had the same issue, and as far as I managed to find out, it is a bug in Samsung's kernel. Flashing Arter97 kernel solved the issue for, but do post battery stats from SmartManager. If it says 'Android' or 'Android OS', then you have the same problem many of us do.
I don't think it's a kernel problem. My android OS is very low 4%. Like zoolok said post your battery stats from settings, battery, battery usage
I have the same problem. Battery was great before I flash custom rom. After going back to stock I have big battery draining. I must stay on custom rom. With Audax rom and Skyhigh kernel i have great battery life.
You have either messed up something big or you have an app in the background that is eating up your battery like no tomorrow.
And the reason i say that is because i recently got this battery life on my Galaxy S6 edge+.
And this was taken 2 days ago.
Here i use the CRISSCROSS ROM, AudaxPro Kernel, Greeinify and Samsung's own 'Appoptimizing' feature (same as Doze in Android 6.0).
So my battery life is pretty awesome.

Well I was expecting Google Play Services to be eating your battery (which is quite common) but it looks like your Andriod OS is eating the most battery. I would uninstall Facebook and use the web version it always helps with the ram and battery furthermore, turn off location if you are not using it and check accounts which are being synced. These are the only tips I can give you as I have never seen Android OS drain so much battery.
Since a few days Google Play Store is eating up my battery: I go to sleep with 100% batt and wake up with 50%, if I check batt stats on top I have play store at 45%, with 5h active a d 2h of CPU.
Follows Android system at 5%.

Hello! This is my first post on this website, but I'm a long time lurker.
I decided to post because I don't know what I should do.
I have both Galaxy S4 and S3, and I'm beginning to get frustrated with the S4, mainly due to its battery life.
I performed few tests, and the results are very weird:
1. If I leave both S3 and S4 in airplane mode over the night at 100% both, around 8h, the S3 will lose 3% battery, and S4 will lose 30-40% !
2. But... When I left both at 100% while having a game (Monster Legends to be precise) open the whole time, S3's battery was drained to 0 in 2.5 hours, and S4 lasted whole 4 hours !
What is happening here? I still think there is something wrong with my S4 phone. Might it be the battery? I have 2 batteries and on both the life is pretty low, in one of them NFC doesn't work, and once it overheated.
Maybe it's something with the software?

I think something is keeping your S4 awake.
I have Wakelock Detector installed, and there isn't anything standing out The highest positioned one is Google Play Store with 1 minute 12 seconds, when the phone has been idle for few hours.

I would start with buying a new battery and tossing these two that you have. Overheating can be a symptom of a damaged battery. The not working NFC can be a symptom of to low voltage on your battery.
I have a tmobile galaxy s10+ snap dragon and I noticed the battery drain is really bad. So after having it for 3 days I checked out accubattery and it says I have 4% wear already.

Mine only shows 3900 mah for the estimated capacity on the health screen... I'm pretty mad about this. Only thing I can figure is it hasn't been completely depleted yet, the lowest I've taken it is about 15%. So maybe they bias more charge capacity for the last 5-10% to help prevent people from having their phones die kind of like how cars will often have 20-30 miles left once the range falls to 0...
Or I got a bad phone or samsung lied.....

I completely agree I am starting to wonder if I have been lied to or they have a reserve battery or something.
Also I have dropped 13% battery in 4 hrs of phone being idle at full signal..
5% of your battery is kept for recharge reserve, Android has no access to it, it's handled by the firmware and Accubattery obviously thinks your battery is consumed since it counts 200mAh is missing, that's completely normal and they should update their app to keep that in mind.
Youre saying every phone does this though, not just samsung keeping it from bottoming out? Because on my pixel I never observed that shortage when it was brand new either.
Also as an update if you go to settings and read battery info they say 4100 Mah is not guaranteed (Samsung's support sent me there)
