Hello, I was wondering if there is an app or a means of using your WiFi hotspot without the service provider limits the seem to come all too quick? I have seen other apps such as elixir listed as a go-around but uncertain how to either set it up or know if it's working.
what about PDAnet ? Works for me ,wont ever max your 10gb hotspot limit. But you will want the unlimited plan.
Cons of PDAnet : Requires a PC Windows or Mac
& USB Data cable has to be attached the whole time

When you plug in the phone and it brings up the list, with share internet at the bottom. Is there any way to make that option free, or replace it within the menu with something that is free?
Yes, but it needs to be written into a custom ROM.
ya, I know that lots of custom roms have that option, but why not just use wireless tether? If you're still on stock rom, just go into the market and download it. It's free and works great.
Why not just use the once sprint bundles with the phone? The sprint mobile hotspot one.
Is there some disadvantage to that?
the mobile hotspot is unavailable in the same way usb tether is unavailabe. Sprint does not want you to use your phone for tethering without paying them an extra $30 a month.
Can't you use EasyTether from the market? Doesn't require root. Try the free version and if you like it you could buy the $10 version that allows https access. I have never used it but the description states it can do this without root probably because it is using USB so cannot work as a hotspot for multiple PCs at one time and you did state you cared about the USB tethering vs wireless.
I believe barnecle ? I think is the name, also allows usb.
Barnacle is for root as are all wireless tether apps..

Why USB tether?
I would like USB tether because most of the time when I don't have internet, I also don't have power. Why would I plug my phone into my computer, only to turn on the computer's wifi and turn on the phones wifi to make the connection?
If I can only have the 3g/4g radio going, and no wifi on either device, I get better battery life all around.
Here is what I use for USB tethering. It requires a little bit of setup (and adb), but does not require root, and is completely free. In my opinion it works much better than EasyTether or PDA Net

I use Ubuntu, so I can help with setup if anyone needs it. For OSX and Windows, you are on your own.
Surprised I have not seen anything about this (used search tool for the forum and nothing came up).
Anyone try wifi tethering a device using the X Play?

yeah, go to
Settings, Sony Ericsson, Connectivity, Tethering & Portable Hotspot.
Sorry, I am not referring to the tethering that requires an extra data fee, but the wifi tethering that uses the current data plan and does not cost extra.
There are apps you can get that use when rooted with wifi tether and not the stock hotspot feature (that costs extra).

i dont understand what you mean the wifi hotspot feature lets you use wifi to share your 3G/HSDPA connection with other devices, if you have a data plan it costs nothing unless you want to reverse tether, thats where you can share your home internet connection with your device using a pc/laptop
I have Tmobile unlimited data plan, however it is only for the smartphone. When tether, it has 500mb cap. Anyway to bypass this permamently? I'm currently using the user agent switch to Googlebot method to avert detection but some other apps or something else on the desktop or other user profile still inching its way up toward 500Mb cap. I don't want to try the vpn out to somewhere then internet out from there because they control your session and they can intercept your pw.
My DSL sucks badly. Cable is worse where I live every summer. Clearwire is too expensive. Thus, I'm looking elsewhere for more stable internet yet affordable. My current test setup is enable Nexus 4 hotspot then using DDWRT repeater bridge to amplify it up for the whole house. It seems fine so far, but I have to switch every browser's (firefox and chrome) user agent to googlebot for every user account profile on every desktop - kinda pain. Under Googlebot agent, some site does not work correctly. When I switch it back to chrome / firefox, it works fine. So I hope there is some better alternative to bypass Tmo detection. With its unlimited my internet would only be $20/mo and works reliably better than crappy $30 DSL or cable.
Would convert Nexus10 to CM10 avert detection 500MB limit on Tmobile. Anyone can confirm this?
Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.
Sorry,
This Mod isn't included in AOKP or CM.
You have to install an extra app to set an alert.
buy the tethering plan. i have a 10gb high speed plan, and can use all of it for tethering if i want. plus all the low speed for tethering too, if i go over 10gb high speed.
Also clockwork mod tether I have herd gets around them blocking you as well. Requires no root. Install the app to your device from play store and the client to your computer.

I've got a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 which I've recently rooted. My whole objective by doing this is to allow my Xbox to connect to the internet to download updates for games (I've got unlimited data with T-Mobile).
I followed a guide which involved installing xposed framework and then xposed xtether. Everything seems to work, except after using the hotspot for a bit I checked my T-Mobile account for data usage and it shows that I've been using the mobile hotspot (for which I have only 5GB allotted).
I've also tried Barnacle wifi tether but it gives me this error message:
"DHCP: Failed to parse 'fd00:976a::9' for brncl_dhcp_dns1"
and
"WIFI: Could not set ssid of wlan0: File table overflow"
and
"Stopped unexpectedly!"
Additionally, I've tried PdaNet USB tether and internet connection sharing, but the Xbox can't connect to the internet when it's done this way simply stating "Xbox can't connect to the internet".
Ultimately, I'd really like to get the hotspot thing working so that it doesn't draw from the allotted 5GB and instead uses my unlimited data. It'd be nice to use the stock hotspot app. Is this possible?
I know this is a long shot but maybe you can try this:
Open the file: build.prop (located at /system/build.prop)
Add at the end of the file this: wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable
Save changes
Reboot your device
Than try to connect to your hotspot again.

So, is the idea that when I use my mobile hotspot it shouldn't tally the data under that 5GB cap? In other words, if everything is good, it should say 0/5GB for the mobile hotspot?
I'm wondering if the data will continue to count up to 5GB but once it's maxed, it will still let me use the hotspot? Becsuse it seems like xtether lets people tether who don't even have a tethering plan in the first place, whereas I do.
Hello everyone!
So where I am living I cannot get reliable internet service and currently have Hughesnet (satellite isp) that I want to stray from. I have picked up a prepaid true unlimited data plan from Metropcs and want to use it as my default isp as the speeds are astronomical compared to Hughesnet. They are of course limited in usage for tethering and I would have to use a masking application and have chosen Clockworkmod Tether. What I want to do is run a USB dongle to my router (ASUS RT-N56U), connected to my phone (SAMSUNG-SM-G900A), running Android 5.0 with Clockworkmod Tether. Is this possible to do as the router doesn't have a sister application with the phone i.e Pdanet+ needs a windows application running to work?
All feedback is welcome!
So I found a video that kind of explains how to do so but I still have questions. With the process he is demonstrating the phone is using the wifi hotspot option to broadcast signal to the router. My question is.. with all the tether masking apps (PDAnet, FoxFi, Clockwork) you need to connect via USB to work. How would I get around this?
