First off I'm a total noob. I rooted, installed a custom recovery, and custom OS on my last phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) about 4 years ago copy and pasting online guides and that's the extent of my knowledge.
Now my wife got an s7 and I inherited her Samsung s4 (Verizon). Loaded with android version 5.1
My plan was to install LineageOS, but I've ran into a ton of problems along the way.
I was trying to use Odin to load a custom recovery, but it was never successful.
I followed this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468187
and now it doesn't boot, I can't even get into recovery.
sorry for the lack of details with the post, but now I'm lost and don't really have a known direction where to head from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
So after leaving the phone alone for a while it now is able to boot to the stock OS. I still have root through KingoRoot.
I'm running into the same problem when I try to load TWRP with odin.
Here is the odin log:

great so I'm ****ed. Thanks verizon. Why the **** even have a goddamn bootloader if it's ****ing useless then
Every phone needs a bootloader and I believe Verizon and AT&T lock the bootloader to prevent people from messing with the phone, possibly screwing it up, and making a warranty claim.

Hi there,
I'm trying to fix my sister's Note 2. It is stuck in bootloop. I've rooted my GS2 without any problems, but odin is failing with the Note 2. Here's what I get:
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Initialzation..
<ID:0/003> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/003> Firmware update start..

<ID:0/003> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/003>
<ID:0/003> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Some more info: trying to flash "cwm6-root-note2.tar" as the PDA file, and also unsure whether the phone currently runs on stock 4.2 or 4.3, im unable to check since it's stuck in bootloop. I realize there might be a whole new problem if its on 4.3, was just wondering what my best option is right now. I've done some reading here on XDA and can't figure out whats the best thing to do.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
Sorry wrong forum, you're in the galaxy s4 forum...try reposting over in the Note 2 forums

Extra notes: I took the Verizon Update Last Week while rooted which screwed up my system so I thought I start fresh, that's what caused this whole fiasco.
I'm having some issues here following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/veri...volte-t2879348
I ran into a problem after flashing the vulnerable kernel.
When I tried to flash a full stock rom(or any rom) I get an error in odin:
<ID:0/005> Added!!
<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..

<ID:0/005> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
and on the phone
SW REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot] Fused 2 > Binary 1
I can still seem to flash both the kernels in Odin with no issues, and I tried to repartition with the pit file from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2784880 But still with no luck.
I have a Verizon S5
Booting again!
I found I was able to boot again, but will hold off on rooting again. Here's what I did:
Downloaded Modem and Kernel for OC4 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2784880
From Odin 10.4 Entered Kernel in PDA and Modem in CP.
Flashed it successfully!
Let it sit at the Verizon Logo for about 5 minutes!
Not sure if I can flash full roms from Odin or not, but I'm relaxing with this for now.
I'm not sure if it may be related to OC4's update blocking downgrading?
Extra Info:
Version: 5.0
Baseband: G900VVRU1BOC4
Kernel: 3.4.0
Build: LRX21T.G900VVRU2BOE1
I am having same fail, I've read that it's due to us taking that last update a week ago, that's impossible to downgrade from or root.

Yeah I did take that update, it screwed up my system so I thought I'd start fresh... may have been a mistake. But I'm up and running now fortunately, I still can't flash any kind of ROM anymore though.
Did you stay on OE1 or OC4?

Hi,
Too less info from you to give you reliable answer.
What's your phone model?
What version of recovery did you try to flash and where did you get it from?
It might be several reasons for your issue like:
- wrong/incompatible recovery for your phone;
- corrupted download;
- locked bootloader (depending on your phone model);
etc

G870A
TWRP 3.1.1 KLTE - twrp.me
I followed the LineageOS guide, and I doubt it's the wrong recovery.
The md5 seemed to match on the TWRP file as well. I wouldn't know if it would have a locked bootloader, either.

Hi,
As far as I know AT&T s5 phones (G900A and G870A) come with locked bootloaders by default which prevents your phone from installing any custom firmware. You might need a so called safestrap recovery.
Anyway I advice you to ask more about that on AT&T s5 dedicated forum:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/help

Having a difficult time here.... I've got a Galaxy s8 Sprint variant.. I downloaded the Beta one UI firmware, not official just used ODIN. I'd like to go back to stock and update to newest official release, or just go straight to the latest release. I don't care if it's rooted/unlocked or whatever just stock Sprint software. I've tried a couple of stock firmwares but I keep getting errors in Odin. Currently I"m on PDA G950U1UEU5ZSAB CSCG950U1OYM5ZSAB .
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

2 things I can see
1. Use Odin version 3.13.1 it supports the new compression format of newer firmware.
2. The software check fail is due to trying to flash older firmware than what is on your phone. You will need to download firmware with a bootloader version 5 ( 5th number from right of firmware(PDA) name ).
OP can you confirm if it worked?
Hey, THanks a ton.. worked! I don't think I woulda figured that out unless I would have happened to tried a rom with the correct bootloader version. Really appreciate it. One more thing.. which should I use normally.. the home_csc or the csc. I've been using the home one since that's what I see a majority of people using but I don't see any explanation.
thanks again!

Glad you got it sorted
Home_CSC - will keep your apps and data.
CSC - clean install same as a factory reset.
Good morning,
I purchased this phone a couple years ago specifically for being able to root and customize my phone, I wanted to go with Lineage OS, but wasn't available at the time so I went with Renovate. Last night I tried to move to Lineage but failed, in fact I couldn't install any custom firmware's even returning back to Renovate. In troubleshooting I reflashed a stock image back to the phone and now i'm back to stock and working, but when I try to flash TWRP I am unable to I am getting only stock firmwares are allowed, i'm thinking perhaps I flashed a locked stock firmware. Looking at the developer options OEM unlock is enabled. Any thoughts, or help pointing me to a stock firmware that I would be able to flash to TWRP with?

The firmware has nothing to do with twrp so it's strange indeed. Can you get an Odin log from when you try to flash twrp? With this it's easier to identify why twrp won't flash.

Hmm the first screenshot, I've never seen before. Custom binary blocked due to remaining installment balance?! But from what I can see it maybe due to a network lock or OEM. Which stock firmware fo you have currently and what CSC?
