Hi,
I have a rooted Nexus 4 with android 5.0 lollipop build LRX21T.
I have TWRP recovery installed version : v2.8.0.1
The device id rooted via placing the zip file in the device and flashng it via TWRP recovery.
But i am not able to update to android 5.0.1 via google OTA update.
Everytime i try to install the 5.0.1 OTA it goes to TWRP recovery.
I found that the downloaded OTA update file is placed in /cache folder , so i try to update it manually but failed as it shows some update partition error.
"E: error executing updater binary in zip '/cache/e93b********************.signed-occam-LRX22c-from-LRX21T.e93b****.zip"
update partition details.....
I think i am getting this error because the device is rooted.
Can someone guide me how to update my device..and if this because of the rooted device how to unroot without going back to stock.
Thanks in advance....
You can't flash the ota in twrp. You have to be 100% stock recovery, system, kernel, and radio. Flash the stock recovery with fastboot then try the ota.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
I flashed the stock recovery the OTA update continued in the stock recovery , then it showed a error....and i had to restart the phone ...now the ota update has disappeared with the phone still in android 5.0 ...Can you tell me how to get the OTA update back...?
1)Does the error came because the phone is still rooted ?
2) If so how do i remove the root with returning stock .?
3) also if i root and return to stock will it wipe my phone apps and their data...
Now i got the OTA update downloaded manually on my laptop and and booted into stock recovery to try to sideload the zip it gave me the error
"package expects build fingerprint of google /occam/mako:5.0/LRX21T or google /occam/mako:5.0/LRX22C user release keys; this device has google/occam/mako:4.4/KRT160 user release keys .....
This is weird as i am running android android lollipop 5.0 LRX21T and not android kitkat....

Try flashing factory image.
The OTA will flash only on the stock recovery it won't work in any modified/custom recovery. So flash stock recovery first then you are good to go.
Edit: You may also try flashing the factory image, u may lose your data while doing that
Head to https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images and download the latest image, flashing procedure is explained there too.Its not compulsory to lock bootloader afterwards BTW, its personal preference.

Actually i dont want to flash stock as i will lose all the data in the process....
Any other way....?
If there is no other way could you please suggest any tool kit which will backup all data including sms ,contact, call logs and all app data and /data/media folder. in one go ...?
use advanced backup from twrp backup menu and select data only to create a nandroid backup of data only
you can also use titanium backup to backup to choose what to backup and restore it afterwards but it will need root again.
sync your contacts with google server
Flah rom in fastboot
Download factory image, flash system, bootloader and recovery manually. You won't lose your data.
You need stock recovery to proceed flashing the OTA, custom recovery won't flash the OTA, i don't think being rooted is the issue Just flash the stock recovery to solve the problem.

Rooted IS an issue. You can't be rooted and apply the OTA file, it will fail every time. As a previous poster has said, the phone MUST have stock bootloader, recovery and be not rooted for the stock OTA's to apply. If they see any modification during the process, they abort. It's been discussed many times.

thanks for pointing out i was so wrong
http://shield.nvidia.com/tablet-release-notes/2.2/
now to figure out how to get this to update on my rooted LTE Tablet.....
I'm rooted and just got the update. But haven't completed the update yet as I'm too lazy to reroot.
I tried using the nvidia updater, which failed since it rebooted and CWM had no idea what to do. I made a CWM backup so I am going to see how well it flashes in CWM manually.
I managed to find the OTA download location and have superSU at the ready in my downloads folder in case I have to reflash. the OTA saved as:
/data/data/com.nvidia.ota/files/ROM/shield_tablet_software_upgrade_2.2_-_lte__5.0.1.zip
Someone please report the steps on how to do this for Rooted 2.1.
CWM install zip failed. build fingerprint mismatched, its probably CWM. Will try sideloading stock recovery then installing the zip afterward, I think I remember seeing somewhere here that's how people upgraded rooted devices from 2.0 to 2.1
Omg things seem to be more snappy! The dreaded lag may be gone! I'm not rooted so I did the ota install
I'm really interested in your findings, i need to find a tutorial on how to flash back stock recovery then i can do the update and hopefully reroot.

For rooted users you'll want to use theses.

Awsome sounds good. Quick question to get stock recovery back all id have to do is extract the recovery.img file from the ota 2.1 file i downloaded off nvidia's site and load it like i did the CWM recovery from the root thread right?
Or (if you've got root) wait until the full 2.2 .zip is available, then download it and flash it through your custom recovery, followed by the latest SuperSU. (just like the last Lollipop update).
Interestingly, the OTA update tool has an option for "Check full update" (under the top right menu), but it doesn't seem to return anything...yet...

Pretty much you are going
Flash Stock recovery by any preferred method
Flash Update
adb Reflash CWM recovery
Thru recovery flash SuperSU
**Profit**
Working on getting all the files in one package as of right now. Damn internet hogs in my house.
Cant we use Flashify to flash stock recovery and then updating the OTA and then reflash our recoverys and supersu.zip?

You won't be able to successfully flash the UPDATE .zip file (~94MB) on a rooted (read: modified) Lollipop version.
Recovery version is irrelevant.
You need the FULL 2.2 rom (already found above , ~731MB), flash it in your current custom recovery and re-root by flashing SuperSU again.

ok, here's what I dug up. If you are rooted and want it NOW, get to it, otherwise wait for someone to clean up the process:
get the OTA from here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...hread-released-2-17-15-/post/4464815/#4464815
get your latest SuperSU flashable zip: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/
get your recovery ready for reflashing, the OTA will install the stock recovery again. I went with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58864006&postcount=90
boot into recovery and install zip from sideload. then choose either: adb sideload productionBL-droid-signed-wx_na_do-full_ota-29979_512.4856.zip or adb sideload productionBL-droid-signed-wx_na_wf-full_ota-29979_512.4856.zip
reboot and let the upgrade happen, you've lost root and recovery, but you still are unlocked so you just have to reflash them. get into fastboot with power and volume down, then flash recovery: fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-shieldtablet.img
load up recovery and flash the superSU zip and you're back in business.

That means a rooted lollipop user with custom recovery, can download the full ota, and dirty flash it, right?
Device: Moto g4 plus XT1643
Current firmware: athene_f-userdebug 6.0.1 MPJ24.139-23.1 1 release-keys
Sorry, if it's been discussed before, but I am confused so I'd really appreciate if someone points me in the right direction about updating to the latest ota update.
My device has been modified in this order:
Unlocked Bootloader > flashed TWRP 3.0.2-0 > Systemless SuperSU (updated to v2.78SR1)
> Xposed Framework v86> ElementalX Kernel G4-0.3
I have a nandroid backup which I took right before installing xposed. Have all apps+data backed up thru titanium backup.
I don't have access to a PC currently and don't have an external SD Card either, only a 16GB otg drive. I have been frequently getting system update pop-ups and want to update.
I will be really thankful if someone helps me with steps needed to get the update on my phone.
Thanks in advance
First try to flash the stock recovery. Then simply download the update package but don't install it yet. Then copy the package from the data directory of the update app & paste it in internel storage & to sd card in case u want to take a backup. Then reboot to recovery & "apply update from sdcard" .
Try this! Not so sure about it but you can try!
1625 update
I also need guidance. I have the 1625 variant, rooted. I'm using the Slim6 ROM which is very smooth. I see that they've posted update instructions for 1643. Will this process also work for 1625?
You need stock boot image, stock system partition and stock recovery for the ota to work. Other option is to download the stock ROM zip file and flash using fastboot.

For the OTA to succeed, you need 3 things.
Stock boot image
Stock system partition, meaning no changes.
Stock recovery

hi, I think you need a backup (TWRP) of the original stock rom that come with the phone. If you have it restore it from TWRP then you should back to stock rom.
Or You can flash stock rom, I don't know if you can flash it by use TWRP, I saw link for stock rom LEX720 here:
http://bbs.le.com/zt/eui/le_pro3.html
Wrong post
1.If not have TWRP backup ?
2. Stockrom can't istall from TWRP.
This case if i want back to first time buy new phone.

I'm working on a simple guide to return to stock (5.8.20s) since I need to send my phone in for repair. The only thing I am missing is how to get back to original locked bootloader. If anyone has a link to that info (or can send me a flashable file with instructions) please let me know!
Regardless I'll post tomorrow sometime after I try it out.

Hi, I suggest you use the stock twrp backup you made before any modifications first to get the original system back. Then flash a stock recovery from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/leeco-le-pro-3-root-t3476560
and then get the latest OTA firmware zip and rename it to update.zip. Once you renamed it put it into the root of your mobile and reboot to recovery by adb then from there it should allow you to update to stock rom (may also work to get back to stock rom). This will bring back some Chinese apps and the system update features for future OTA if you were under 017s software.
Stock ROM OTA: http://bbs.le.com//zt/eui/le_pro3.html
I held no responsibility to any damage caused as it may or may not work for every device. It worked for me after flashing various custom roms. I used my first stock backup and got rid of the twrp then update with the stock recovery.
Just posted a guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/guide-return-to-stock-lock-bootloader-t3539513
I hope it is helpful!
This morning I my phone pesented itself in TWRP.
Maybe this is because over the past days I repeatedly got notifications that a system upgrade wanted to install itself (I have a modified 26s X720 from Tora33).
I rejected those notifications.
Now I am stuck in TWRP and I cannot get around it. What I tried:
Reinstalling previous firmware (Tora33 26s) still on the phone
Restoring a TWRP backup from 6 months ago (TWRP didn't see it, maybe it's from a previous TWRP version, I now have v. 3.1)
Flash via fastbood factory image using Mauro's Tool All In One (error message "can't find file mke2fs.conf")
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, system; then install Mauro_V2.2 cleansed 23s firmware which I transferred to the phone
Every time it boots up in TWRP.
Your bricked you never flash ota with twrp you should read before doing anything.
The only thing that can help is ofil.
I suggest you study well before trying it.

Oh boy. Thanks anyway. OTA flashed itself, couldn't stop it. Maybe I made it worse by trying to fix.
The bootloader is not locked according to the AIO tool. I can flash succesfully any firmware, only after flashing the phone will still boot in TWRP. It is strange it still boots in TWRP. Is there no simpler trick like flashing the standard recovery and then flashing OFW?
You mention Ofil; do you think the guide described here work?

Yes, that QFIL guide is for the x720.
In my opinion, the best way to return stock is to push update.zip into phones main folder, then install stock recovery, then in this one install update zip then check that OS is working. If it is, then go into twrp and wipe. Can't do it?

If he was just going back stock that would work he flash 28s ota with twrp so this will not work.

No brick after OFW push 28s
The pushed (unvoluntary) update didn't brick my phone after all. This may be important for those that have modified stock ROMs with TWRP.
Not being able to restore OFW was a bug in Mauro's All-in-One tool which he fixed last night. After I could easily flash 20S or 26S stock from his repository. I would also recommend this as safest/easiest procedure. Afterwards you can just flash TWRP from the same tool and move from there.
By the way, immediately after flashing 20s the FW notified it wanted to update itself, again!
