Hey guys,
Recently rooted using unrevoked and wifi tether was working but after updating superuser to 3.0.7 tethering no longer works and asks if I have root? It says S-OFF in the bootloader. Tried to run unrevoked again but it failed to get root access. Also tried clearing cache and data but still no luck. Any ideas? Thanks.
Running 2.2
Open the Superuser app and make sure permissions is on, then reboot
still no luck. I tried z4 and temp rooted and it seems to have added the permissions to superuser but after reboot same thing happens. I guess the apps cant see the root?
Might try to downgrade superuser to like su-2.3.6.2-efgh by flashing within recovery and then go back in and updating from market.
If you're S-Off, you don't need to keep trying to root. You're rooted.
What I would do is make sure you have Amon Ra for recovery, wipe everything as outlined in the guide I wrote (link in my sig) and flash a ROM. That will give you SU and you should be fine.
Just clearing Cache and Data is not enough. You need to clear Dalvik Cache, System, etc...
tried this and it didnt work for me.. any other suggestions?

Hello all,
First off a big thanks to the forum mods. I rooted my new Galaxy S4 (AT&T, I337, model number ends with AMDL) using the motochopper method, and could successfully root my phone. However after rooting I tried installing CWM from the SD card but I keep getting the message "installing falied", followed by my phone formatting it self, worst of all I did not have back up for my phone. What is that I am doing wrong? Is there a way restore my phone back to the factory settings? Thanks in advance.
-Santhoo.
How are you trying to install CWM? what I am asking, what file is it? a zip? do you have any recovery installed?

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the recoveryxxx.zip file on to the SD card, restarted the phone on to recovery mode (home+volume up+power on, followed by choosing install from external storage). Once the installation starts, few moments later I see a message saying installation failed followed by wiping data from phone, and end up with formatting my phone. I noticed the same happening when I tried installing something from my SD card using the booting into recovery model followed by install from external storage method. My phone works fine and all but I am unable to use the benifits of rooting my phone, and am stuck with all the bloatware.
I know you are wanting to use the cwm, test it by downloading goo manager and installing the twrp from that, then try the zip from extsdcard, umm I flash EVERYTHING from my extsdcard. Not one issue.

Thank you Axman for the reply. I'll try it and update you.
installed TWRP after goo manager, and could successfully boot into TWRP recovery mode. Kind of newb question though. How do uninstall the bloatware using TWRP?

If you are booting now, I would use Titanium backup and go freeze the bloatware first, then delete later, this way, if you freeze the wrong one, you can unfreeze, then when you are familiar with this, remove the bloat as need be.
Just a suggestion. try this first.

I uninstalled some of the ATT bloatware, bloatware that I know just chews up the battery, and am not sure of the Samsung bloatware, so I did not mess with it. However I did not find the option of installing apk files directly. I installed some of the apk files downloaded from internet on to my HTC Aria directly from the computer using the command prompt, and was wondering if I could do the same with SGS4 using TWRP.
BTW, I forgot to mention, I used Titanium BU to uninstall some of the ATT bloatware
Hi Guys
I recently upgraded my rom to Foxhound 4.0 KitKAT. Ever since the upgrade I keep getting the message com.android.phone has stopped working when I reboot and at pin number screen. Settings also stops working as well.
I have tried clearing cache and data on phone in application manager and also wiped dalvic cache and cache.
I cannot find fix permissions in Philz Touch recovery.
has anyone got a fix for this?
many thanks
Chris
probably a ROM issue, try another ROM.
Be sure to:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Clear cache
3. clear dalviks cache.
And then install a new fresh ROM

You don't need root access, you need to flash Custom recovery tool, like Philz Touch or Clockworkmod recovery via ODIN to install a ROM via a zip file.
Or if you want to flash a ROM via odin, you need to put your phone in download modus and flash via odin.. (.tar files most of the times)
You can download a default ROM for your phone from this website: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
If you download a ROM from sammobile you get it in TAR format, so flash it with ODIN while ur phone is in downloading modus.
good luck

Nope, not needed some devices require the bootloader to be unlocked first, but thats something different.

Once you've installed a Custom Recovery you don't need root to acces it. Only stock fw flashes your recovery.
Just do a clean install..

This is one question that always confuses me....
Do I fix root when recovery asks me on reboot? or leave it as NO?

Could be ROM related, so try on the Foxhound thread (if there is any?)
CM11 doesn't seem to have root. I've flashed the latest nightly and for whatever reason, it just doesn't want to work right. Can't delete installed apps, can't remount, or anything...I can't be the only one can I?

Probably, the problem is the app you're trying to use...

Did you install a custom kernel after flashing the rom?

It's got to be a system thing, even adb won't remember when I authorize my computer....

Negative, stock kernel. Clean install...
My suggestion is to get the latest TWRP or CWM and factory reset, wipe system, and delvik cache. Then flash the rom again. It is possible you also have a corrupted download. Use an MD5 checker on the ZIP to make sure it isn't corrupted. If you don't want to start over you can also flash the auto root from chainfire from this link.
http://download.chainfire.eu/297/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-mako-occam-nexus4.zip
So I got around to it. Clean wipe, fresh from the start, install latest nightly of CM10, gapps, and no go. It says it's giving romtoolbox Pro permissions, but it can't delete anything. I authorize the computer to communicate through adb, and it forgets after a reboot...
The only thing is that I'm running Philz touch latest recovery...
Have you tried installing supersu? I found that a lot of apps have problems with the default super user.
I guess your /system doesn't have the right permissions. It's maybe set to read only.
IF not.. > Check your developer options and give root access to adb and apps
hey hey hey guys its me amnesia and u probably know me for messing up my playstore all the time and im never able to fix it without the help of u guys so yeah lol
Well a month or when my playstore **** itself someone suggested that i flash gapps and its worked epicly but after a week or 2 it stopped working and i was thinking of deleting it and flashing gapps again which is what i did i deleted playstore with an app called root app delete maybe uv heard of it so i deleted playstore and then when i flashed gapps again nothing happend..... the playstore just wasnt installed again i tried multiple times and with factory reset and the problem persists so guys can u please help me with this one last problem ...... thanks in advance and sorry for me being so annoying hehe .__.
make sure you mount system in cwm before flashing any zip
you can install the play store by itself by downloading the apk from the android police website but unless you are using a stock rom (not a custom rom) google play services will not work unless you flash gapps
So basically what u want me to do is get the apk from android polive then flash gapps and then install the apk ?
Can u tell me exactly what do please ?
if you are using stock rom uninstall any playstore installed and install the apk from android police
if you are using a custom rom flash gapps in cwm with system mounted (note to flash gapps you need to wipe data first)
you could just install the playstore apk if you have already flashed gapps
if you cant work it out just flash stock rom via odin and start again
well its installed but it opens the app loads for a bit and then automagically crashes....
now what ?
