I currently have a H870 european LG g6.
I want to root my phone but I don't want to install TWRP.
I want the lightest and "as stock as possible" way to root.
Is it possible? Thanks a lot for your help !
Your NEED to unlock bootloader. Then ADB to root.
Why not have twrp installed? Great for backup restoring flashing latest root list goes on.
If you want a rom which is 'stock as possible' install Fulmics rom. You do need to unlock your bootloader and use TWRP to install the rom tho'.

Aight if you don't want any rom, you still got to unlock your bootloader cause you need to install TWRP to install magisk or supersu. Which root app do you prefer?
I have the US997 and want something similar. I want to root the stock rom with Magisk and still be able to take an OTA. Ideally, unlock, flash TWRP, root, and then flash back stock recovery. This is possible correct?

Yea you can do that. You can keep the stock rom if you want but you will need to flash TWRP to install magisk. Magisk comes with a .zip file which only can be installed with TWRP.

Nope, you always need a custom recovery to flash SuperSu or Magisk.
Anyway, why you don't want the custom recovery? You can always remove it by flashing the stock one.

I have read a lot of issues other users have trying to make TWRP to work. I was thinking it would be better for me if there was a way to skip TWRP when rooting my LG G6.

Zefie's TWRP doesn't have any major problems, official one is unable to mount system and has problems with backups, nothing to do with normal usage of the phone.

Thanks! I wish somebody knowledgeable would post an "Ultimate Guide to Rooting your LG G6" thread and make it a sticky. There are contradicting/incomplete instructions on when to press and release the Volume & Power button, when to disconnect the USB cable, etc.
I believe many simple questions on flashing recovery and rooting will keep coming back until a correct, complete and detailed step-by-step guide gets posted.

you will need to unlock to flash custom zip, but u can relock after

Question - why? What do you want to root your phone for if not to use the wonderful tools of root. Why do you think fully rooting your phone will harm something. Locked or unlocked bootloader is not going to affect your phone. Rooted stock rom with recovery will not make it act funny.... Sorry not putting you out there but just asking why? Feel free to ignore me if you must...
Edit: Sorry to answer your question like the post above said you can root and then lock it right back up if that is your preference

I have come from an HTC Desire, which I rooted and had a custom rom (Cyganonmod) on and was very happy with it.
I am still not sure of what I would gain by doing the same with my Nexus 4 ?
any advice is much appreciated.
Is this new Cyganonmod installer the best way to go?

This phone is built for rooting and modding. You wont know what benefit you have until you either read up and see if the mods are ones you want or actually flash a rom. Sure try the CM installer but if you dont toolkits or just basic knowledge of android can get this phone roooted in minutes.
the CM rom on your HTC will give you the same benefits on your Nexus 4

I used a toolkit but honestly you can unlock manually by just booting into bootloader mode. Go into development and try Wugs Toolkit.... Rooting the phone is easy and all methods are relatively the same.
I do not see anything wrong with giving CM a try as well

I recommend you to stick to your original plan, its your phone, do what you like, you don't need to flash custom roms if you don't want to. I am using stock kernel and stock KitKat right now and the performance is excellent.
Follow these instructions to unlock bootloader, install latest kitkat factory image, install custom TWRP recovery, and root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312

After you do all that, in bootloader menu, you can flash back the stock recovery (recovery.img), which is location in the "image-occam-******.zip" of the factory image. (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
Then lock your bootloader by "fastboot oem lock". You can also use BootUnlocker to lock and unlock your bootloader on the fly while in the phone, without losing your data, since everytime you do fastboot oem unlock, it will wipe the entire device.
By using stock rom, stock recovery, stock kernel and temporarily unroot (SuperSU) or hide root (SuperSU paid version), it allows you to receive future OTA updates from Google. If you want to modify your phones more while staying with stock, read up on Xposed Framework and its module Gravity Box, which is not yet compatible with Android 4.4 but will be eventually.
Just remember if you don't have custom recovery, once something goes wrong and your phone can't boot, its very hard to save the data inside. Once you have custom recovery like TWRP, you can make a backup of your stock image (which also backup your stock kernel) and try out other custom roms and easily go back to stock, then you can flash stock recovery again to receive OTA updates.

I rooted and unlocked with Wugfresh over the weekend. A lot easier than I thought it would be
I'm currently running 6.0.3 paranoid version. And I did obviously have root before installing this ROM. I have tried looking in the developer options to see if it wasn't turned on, but the option isn't available anymore. I'm not sure what information i need to supply. Will I need to root again?

The ROM doesn't ship with root. It isn't needed for the ROM to work.
If you want to root it, just flash SuperSU zip in recovery.

It made me lose my custom recovery which was twrp. Which is why i cannot flash it.

You should go ask in your device forum. I've never heard of recovery being removed after flashing a ROM

There may be two reasons for losing recovery:
1.You had dual recovery for stock locked bootloader.
2.You had kernel with built in recovery.
And to get recovery:
Just download twrp for z2
And flash through flashtool.

Did you have the latest marshmallow stock build(.291) before this? If so , then connect to computer in fastboot mode, download twrp image for your phone, copy to fastboot folder and type,

fastboot flash recovery (the twrp image name).img
To get into recovery, hold power and vol down buttons together until sony logo.

Rooting this device is actually quite a simple and easy process. Before you begin, it is recommended that you at least try to understand what each part of the process will do. Simply flash the full ROM.zip manually in recovery, typically 1.4GB.
That means not installing the incremental mini zips. And not installing from the settings menu.
It's up to you whether you want to wipe data or cache.

Dm verity zip is not needed when you flash SuperSu.

one question though, when after setting my account going for nandroid backup there I found SYSTEM as well SYSTEM IMAGE.
what is difference between them, What thing should I backup.

I was wondering if anyone has faced the same problem as me - while trying to root the Oneplus 3T I constantly get a bootloop after flashing SuperSU. The latest TWRP (3.0.4.0) is installed without any problems in fastboot, the system is mounted as r/w, and I don't see any problems during flashing SuperSU package...
I've tried it before and after OOS 4.0.2, I've tried old and new, stable and beta versions of SuperSU, but either way the phone is stuck on bootscreen after flashing.
P. S. If I flash the official ROM after that - it boots up instantly without any errors... And with no root :/

Just tried both versions (2.79 and the SR3 beta) - unfortunately, the same bootloop happens.
I flash twrp 3.0.4 then flashed RR N rom but twrp is not booting to system it boot again to twrp please help

Followed the guide on reddit page, and got the Magisk root, with Android Pay compatibility!

Yes. Install twrp, flash no verity, format data (to remove encryption) flash magisk. Some people have said if you took the last security update, you may have to patch the boot.img with magisk manager then flash the patched boot.img in fastboot or twrp to root. And will likely need the latest magisk beta (16.4).
I really don't care about encryption.

Don't neglect to backup EVERYTHING in TWRP before doing ANYTHING (and store those images off-device!). Strongly suggest booting a TWRP image to perform this task vs. installing/flashing to the recovery partition, especially if interested in preserving/restoring OTA capability at a future time.
Of course I will back up everything. Honestly this is the first device I have not rooted since I started with Android. Everything else I rooted as soon as I got it.

You can backup your data in twrp and restore after you format (after first boot). Restore only data though.

Welcome to the 5% club which is probably generous based on the number of noobs (and veterans) who neglect to image their device before messing with core components. Of course that figure may be skewed as those that do take proper precautions rarely write posts that begin with "help!" and have no path back to the prior working state.
Also, resist the temptation to flash a custom recovery (twrp) vs booting from fastboot if you want to accept accept future OTA updates or roll back to pure stock. While restoring stock recovery is possible it certainly complicates the process. Can always revisit the decision at later time.

Don't have a definitive answer on the latest firmware. Suggest going through the above steps first. If no joy it's a simple matter to patch/flash boot.img .
You are wise to boot a twrp image vs flashing over stock recovery. Simplifies fallback should the need arise. Don't neglect to backup stock and store off device (or at least on a SD card).

For .3, format data to remove encryption.
But the rest should work. If not, you have to download the current firmware ( the version you're on) if you can find it. Extract the boot.img from it. Then use magisk manager to patch it. And use fastboot to flash the patched boot.img

You shouldn't need a no-verity any longer. Newer versions of magisk should take care of it. Just TWRP, and magisk.

Hello, I am running a Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime at the moment, a friend told me I must flash no verity.zip after flashing TWRP because of the verification and I tried making a backup if the entire rom but it failed so I need to confirm, do I factory reset my device then flash the no verity file or I flash the no verity file and then factory reset the device??

Got a quick question. I'm on OOS 9.0.11 currently with bootloader unlocked, TWRP installed, and rooted with Magisk. I know how to flash correctly and keep root and recovery after. Is it safe for me to install the 9.0.17 OTA without flashing 12-16? Any issues that could arise from me not flashing the other OTAs first?
I jumped several versions without issue. As long as you are using the complete file (the ~1.8 GB) file you should be fine. You'll have issues if you use the incremental file (obviously).

That is correct. There is a new feature in TWRP that is supposed to eliminate the reflash, but I haven't tried that yet, I've just been flashing the installer, and rebooting to recovery, then flashing the rest.
