The first thing you should do is get the most up-to-date nougat stock firmware. If you google Nexus 6p stock firmware you will get the link to all the google images. Just scroll down to angler and look for the last 7.1.2 image. Now there's two ways to flash I prefer the fastboot method but most use the flash.all file you get in the download from said image. If you look up the Heisenberg guide on returning to stock will show you all the commands if you choose fastboot method. After you've accomplished this you can flash twrp and use any nougat ROM that's still available. Now why do you want nougat when 8.1 Oreo is available? Its really good and battery life is great.

Same steps as Oreo download nougat firmware and fastboot flash appropriate files. Heisenberg guide or google api sight will have the commands. I suppose you could google update your way but be more tedious and prone to bugs.

I need to update the source code to nougat so i can build it is what i'm meaning

Need Help Rooting (solved)

Hello XDA,
I have been using Samsung phones all my life , Rooted (odin) a lotta phones installed countless custom roms and finally i thought its time for pure android experience . I bought a moto g4 plus from a friend of mine and have been going through the g4 + forum for 2 days now . I have not got the slightest of idea how you root / install custom rom on this device . Its so different from how you do it on a Samsung device so finally I have decided to ask for your help .
Info I would like to share :
1.The boot loader is locked
2.The device is a XT1643
3. 3 GB / 32 GB
4. December 1 , 2017 security patch
5. NPJS25.93-14-13
6. There was a OTA update when I received the phone which I didn't update
As mentioned earlier It looks like I am a complete noob when it comes to this device and I would need all the possible help I can get .
If anybody would be kind enough to guide me through this initial learning phase I will be very grateful and would even share my whisky ( which I usually don't do )
If you need any more information please ask
Thanks and Regards

Hello Mate
As mentioned above I have been searching the forum for almost 2 days before I thought of asking for help . I did go through the thread( that you have mentioned ) earlier today but it looks a bit old to me . The link on how to flash twrp comes back with a 404 error . The last few posts are helpful (as it deals with the same build) but again as am new to the particular device It would be helpful if someone could give me a noob friendly procedure . I am not here to break the rules just trying to learn without bricking my device
Thanks and Regards

Flashing TWRP:
>>> Flashing TWRP or Rooting will void your warranty. Please ask anything before doing, if your not fully confident on what to be done. <<<
Get the TWRP image file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...p-twrp-3-0-2-2-recovery-moto-g4-plus-t3386586
Next, get the adb and mfastboot from https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5jlU9JnLAZGbVU0UzJ3N3p4X2M/view?usp=sharing
Unzip the file and place the image file inside the extracted folder.
Reboot to Bootloader (power off, then press the power and volume down buttons simultaneously).
Open a new command prompt or terminal window and do the following:
Code:
mfastboot flash recovery twrp_*version*_athene.img

Sorry for being so short earlier. We have quite a few members here who constantly post issues without using the search function.
You can try to post I quoted above to flash TWRP. It's fairly straight forward.
Are you planning on flashing a Nougat ROM or are you going the adventurous route and flashing an Oreo ROM? The TWRP version mentioned in the quoted post should be fine for flashing Nougat and 32-bit based Oreo ROMs, but you'll need 64-bit TWRP for 64-bit Oreo ROMs.
Use this as a reference for 32-bit and 64-bit Oreo ROMs: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/oreo-roms-table-t3717226
64-bit TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-twrp-3-2-1-unofficial-touch-t3722206
Once you've flashed TWRP, you can either flash different versions through TWRP itself or through the Play Store app.
As far as ROMs, I'd recommend Official Lineage OS 14.1 for Nougat: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-1-t3522101
And I'd recommend Official AICP 13.1 for Oreo: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...om-aicp-13-1-o-8-1-0-official-weekly-t3731269 (You'll need to download the 20180212 build since most recent builds either have a broken camera or won't boot.)
Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I am going to try the Oreo builds as I have never got a chance to try it on my previous devices so I guess I will be using a 64bit version of twrp.
This is what am planning to do :
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Flash an official version of TWRP
2.a Take a backup
3. Flash a custom kernel through twrp
4. Flash Super Su / Magisk
5. Flash a 64 bit version of twrp using TWRP
6. Flash a custom ROM
Please correct me if I am wrong
Thanks a lot for the detailed guide

If you want 64bit Oreo roms it's a little bit different
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Flash a 64 bit version of twrp
2.a Take a backup and safe it off your phone
3. Flash a Oreo 64bit custom ROM
3.a flash gapps package arm64 (8.0 or 8.1 depending on rom version)
4. Flash magisk 15.3
If you want to root the stock nougat rom steps 1-4 of your list are correct.

Not quite. You'll want to go in this order:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash TWRP
3. Backup
4. Wipe (Wipe/Advanced Wipe; ART/Dalvik, System, Data, Cache)
5. Flash ROM
6. Flash Gapps
7. Reboot
8. Go through setup wizard and let everything settle for ~10 minutes
9. Boot into TWRP and flash SuperSU or Magisk (I would suggest Magisk), then flash kernel and reboot
You'll need to flash the unofficial 64-bit TWRP mentioned in my previous post to flash a 64-bit Oreo ROM, otherwise you'll get an error message when flashing ROM.
You'll also need to use unofficial Gapps since there aren't any official Gapps for 8.1 just yet. I'd recommend either mini or micro here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/unofficial-opengapps-8-1/files/arm64/20180225/
You should be able to flash the most recent Magisk located here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589
If you do flash a custom kernel, I'd highly suggest Frostbitten: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...s-frostbitten-kernel-moto-g4-g4-plus-t3649155

If it was an OTA update, it looks likely to be more the February 2018 security patch rather than the January 2018 patch.

That is true, however for our devices we have generally been issued the same security patch level regardless of region. It may be different builds for particular regions (e.g NPJS25.93-14-13 for India, Brazil and EU, and NPJ25.93-14.7-3 for US) but they are both the December 2017 security patch.
Regardless, we've still yet to see an OTA newer than December.

4. flashed ElementalX-G4-2.00.zip

After which I flashed lineage-14.1-20180219-nightly-athene-signed.zip and the gapps provided
experienced the same error again .
uninstalled magisk and flashed the latest Super Su (V2.82) with no positive results

First, I'm a little confused about the fact that you flashed that version of TWRP instead of the one located here: https://dl.twrp.me/athene/
Second, I've never had that happen when flashing, so I'm not really sure what to recommend. If I had to guess, I would say the best route would be to restore your backup and see if the SIM is detected.
I have found at least one thread with a similar issue; might be worth a look: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/fix-sim-card-issue-t3751679
Let us know what happens.

Is it okey if I flash the twrp that you have mentioned over the existing twrp?

Edit : I have restored my backup but still the same issue.
Edit : flashed the official TWRP . still the same results
EDIT : After 3 hours + Countless reboots the issue solved on its own ... I am not sure what really happened.. lol

From Official Pie -> Pixel Experience - Help needed!

Hello guys, I had successfully updated to official Pie, but now I regret it since Google Camera doesn't work.
Also, some people on the Xiaomi discord tried to install custom ROMs but they ended up bricking (or almost bricking) their phone.
Did anyone try to revert to 8.1 or just simply succeed flashing a custom ROM without facing any serious problems?
I think I'm not the only one with this issue, I'm grateful for any help provided.
Have a nice day!

Oww, that's explain all.
Anyway..Can you say me how you do that? I don't know how to partition Twrp
On which ROM r u
Now i am on Stock 8.1 Nov but don't want to start
@Akhil bro
If you've been on stock Pie before downgrading can you tell us the EXACT steps how you downgraded to Oreo? Thanks in advanced
This method works if u are on pixel experience ROM
And these steps are given by Gautam thapper/
Download treble twrp from XDA
Boot into twrp then go to Tissot manager from advanced options then select repartition
After select repartition u need not change any thing just press next at last u will be asked to select type of boot u have to select single boot system..
After this get into fastboot use miflash tool rest of the process are same
Also do watch this video
https://youtu.be/UolGlwRriic
@Akhil bro thanks but since I am on stock Pie ROM and a lot of people have bricked theirs I'm not gonna do it. Thanks for the information though!

Oneplus 5 android 9.0.9 to stock rom

Hi there,
I was wondering if it is possible to go back to the original stock rom from OnePlus 5.
I checked the OnePlus website, but they don't provide the stock rom no more.
I watched some YT videos and stuff, and most are about rolling back to 8.0
My phone is not rooted or whatsoever, so i am also looking for a root free rollback.
Thanks !

Hey, thanks for the post but this post goes for updating the OP5 To android 9.0.
I'm looking for a way to rollback from 9.0 to stock rom android or android 7.

I just wonder if its safe to just put the rom to my phone and push the update while i am on android 9.0 with locked bootload and no root. I do not like to break my phone
Also, i am kinda a noob at this point. So please not to much "geek talk" , thanks

[GUIDE] Fix fingerprint

Because many users are repeatedly asking this and everyone needs to answer again and again, I write it up here:
This is only true for Oreo and later Custom ROMs! For nougat refer to post #3 by @TheFixItMan (thanks for the tip that users still use nougat )
You can choose between this ways (doing both is wasted time!)
- Have stock Oreo installed before flashing your ROM (for most users not an option because they already have the issue)
- Flash https://github.com/nift4/nift4.github.io/releases/tag/cedric-fp-fix over your existing custom ROM
Yes, it's so easy
do you have the fix for Lineage os 14.1, i tried this ine didn't work for me. :s

Download stock nougat firmware and flash just the following two parts
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
For fingerprint to work you need to have a base stock firmware that matches the base of the rom you are using - so in the case of lineage 14.1 that is nougat
The zip file in the op contains oero files so is for people who never bothered flashing oero firmware when they flashed an oero based custom rom
OP should explain what the zip file does (flashes the two files I've mentioned but from oero firmware) to help people understand the issue

Hi,
I have a motog5 xt1676.
I was on Nougat and I updated to Carbon Rom (after trying with lineage 17, same issue) and i have to choices:
-Doing nothing and people can hear me when i am in speakerphone but the fingerprint doesn't work.
-I patch with the first link for orea then the fingerprint work but people can't hear me when i'm in speakerphone.
Patching with nougat files does nothing...
Is there a way to edit the fix or to make a fix myself avoiding the speaker issue ?
I though to change build.prop or a way to change the way sound is mixed during call but i did'nt test changing all lines.
Do you have an other idea ?
A fix for pie ? ( Carbon is Pie when Pie is cooked too much time =D )
Thank you,

As explained
If your stock rom firmware is nougat I suggest updating it to oreo to use pie custom rom
Read my post above (post number three) for full explaination
Any other issues is probably a rom issue - I don't even think carbon rom is actively supported for this device. Use lineageos/Mint os from dev section

Sorry, I midunderstood, I understand better now.
Then installing oreo stock ROM add more "compatibility files" to link with a pie ROM from nougat.
Lineage os is not officially supported on motog5 device, thats why i looked for carbon. But the unofficial lineage os for motog5 look like as frequently updated as "official" carbon rom. I dont know if Carbon updates are caring of hardware details and if they are released without real adaptation. Lineage os pay probably more attention to hardware because motog5 is not officially supported by lineage... Idk...
Thank you,

Don't be concerned too much about the terms official and unofficial
Nearly all lineageos roms will start off as unofficial - it's users who build it. It's only when they are submitted to lineageos and they add it to their build server it becomes official but its the same device tree.
The only reason the lineage os rom has not been made official is because the camera is not fully working like it is in stock rom so it doesn't meet the criteria to be submitted

Can you just downgrade OOS to Android 10 and then flash TWRP or is it impossible?

Hi, I recently bought an used OnePlus 8 Pro and it was already updated to Android 11. After repairing it, I discovered that it's not possible to run TWRP on this firmware version.
Couldn't I just go ahead and downgrade the OS in order to run TWRP on it or is it basically impossible like on the latest Samsung Galaxy S-series devices?
Would be glad if someone could answer me that question. I kinda tried to boot into twrp because I was too quick to read the thread but it just caused my device to run into Qualcomm Emegency Mode.
What do you need twrp for? If it's just to root and almost everything else... It can be done via other means.

Hmmmm the way I've seen a lot of custom roms... They're installed/flashed partition by partition in bootloader via fastboot.....I guess if you have to use twrp to flash the entire rom you do need to downgrade to os 10.

Thank you for your response. i think i just did not catch up the latest progress. Would you please help me find the instruction about how to flash rom in the new way you mentioned ? thank you so much.
And i still have the same question , is it necessary for us to downgrade to android 10 and then start flashing rom.
Look at the roms in the subforum here:

I just looked at some popular ones like Pixel experience and Lineage and they're both flashed in this way. Look at the opening post where the instructions are... Seems like Pixel Experience there's a batch file that flashes the partitions but it's essentially done this way without twrp.

thank you for your reply, I already tried to flash pixel experience, i followed the install guide but failed to flash its recovery file.

Because it requires installing rom from recovery, so I get stuck here.
The problem is the device enters crash dump mode when switched to recovery mode. I guess the reason is that my p8pro is in andriod 11 before i flash recovery. now the device can enter android 11 normally but the recovery don't function. So I am here to ask is it necessary for me to downgrade to android 10 to solve the problem.

Thank you for your reply, it help me a lot. i have already flash my device lineage os . Regarding the problem i mentioned in my last reply, it seems the install guide is for android 10. As for android 11 , i think it needs a payload dumper to extract all files and flash them one by one.

I think the answer depends why do you need twrp. If you just want to flash a rom like me, you can find a custom rom supporting android 11,for example lineage os and you can flash all files it requires without twrp.
If you want to flash a android 10 rom or you just want to flash twrp , i don't know how, maybe you should downgrade.
