reply to a text message options - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have an LG G5 that is starting to give me hardware problems such as the GPS not working. I'm thinking the S8 might soon get a few discounts offered. The notification reply on the lg is aggravating. If I receive a notification message on my lock screen there is no way to dismiss the message without double tap opening then closing the message app. I love how the iPhone makes it so easy to reply or dismiss a message from the lock screen. Is it possible to dismiss permently a message on the lock screen with the S8. Thanks.

I dont have the exact answer for you,But most def worth the upgrade As I also came from the G5

What were the biggest parts of getting a S8 that were better then the G5. I will miss the battery swap and really don't think I like the curved edges.

Batt life is amazing. Plus top offs only take a few min. The ui and overall performance. Like everything. Other than the curved edges. It's a better phone in general.
I do miss batt swapping. I had 3. But this device don't need the mid day swap.
And I miss the ir port

Thanks for the insight. I am keeping an eye open for some good deals on the S8 soon. I really wish the android message reply method could be as smooth as the iphone with the different options. I assume I will get used to the curved edges. I am surprised that the battery life is that much better then the G5. The wireless charging will come in handy at work too.

S8 user here. You are able to dismiss notifications from the lock screen by swiping to the left or right without the need to unlock your phone. It also gives you the option to mark messages as read which comes in handy when you get multiple messages at once.
The stock message app also allows you to reply from the notification. Not sure if other apps have this too.
Battery life is great and the ability to charge quickly helps with not having to worry about it too much.
The curved screen in my opinion is more of a novelty. It hasn't made much of a difference in how I use my phone. However, the high screen-to-body ratio due to the smaller bezels makes a noticeable difference when holding the phone. It feels more natural since it's not very bulky and wide, and even after adding a case, holding the phone still feels good.
The S8 is a good phone and I love mine. No regrets buying it.

How the curved screen feel for everyday use?

I am considering buying a S7 edge but I am really put off by the curved screen. Everytime I look at the phone in some shop, for just few minutes, the design looks beautiful for sure... but when actually looking at stuff inside the screen like images, some Apps, etc it really look bad to me with everyting distorted/curved at the edges.
Anyone else had this feeling? do you get used to it after few days of usage? or for most people it looks ok since the beginning?
I would for sure buy the normal S7 if it was 5.5"
Thanks
I have the S7EDGE. To me i only bought it for two things, looks and bigger battery. I even disabled all edge features. Its easy to use. Content sure wraps around the edges but its not annoying to me. And the size of the phone is great. Extremely compact for the 5.5 screen it has.
A curve is a distorted straight line, this wil never change. Personally I have no issues with it, I do see what u mean but I consider it a property of the curved edge and it doesn't hinder me in any visual aspect when watching a video or browsing. It also doesn't add anything to the phone for me in terms of usability (I went for looks ) so going for the edge-less version is a good choice also. The bigger battery was also what made me choose the edge.
I came from a Galaxy s5, to the SG7E. Chose the edge for the bigger battery and to give the something-different a try.
I've had the phone for about 3 weeks now and am pretty happy with it.
It's true that the edge of the display will slightly distort image edges but I don't find myself distracted by that at all in normal phone use - web, email, sms, taking pics/video, viewing pics/video, using navigation (Google Maps, Garmin Viago, Locus Pro).
What I have NOT done yet is any gaming, in particular with the Gear VR, so no opinion on that yet.
Its just great. Im not distracted by the edges at all. Furthermore, I love the effect it creates. Even just a facebook app looks more interesting to browse.

That's the point It's like an infinity pool where the water or pixels goes over the edge (hue hue), and that's pretty much the whole "thing" with it. If you're not into the edge, then get the regular "flat" S7. I love the edge though, even though I've disabled every edge feature.
Just should probably check it out in-store once or twice more to see if you like it or not, but I suspect you do like it. Also, there is a small learning curve to learn how to use the curved screen. It does have palm rejection, so it'll detect when your palm rests on the screen while you're using it, but it's just a piece of software, meaning it's not perfect, so you'll get some miss-clicks here and there, but you'll quickly learn how to hold the phone.
Overall, I do not regret getting it. It's pure tech porn.
The second reason I bought this phone for was the fact that it's the narrowest 5.5" phone in existence. And it can't be like this if not curved. First reason is the battery life.

Yeah, the phone is pretty small for its display size, so no complaints there!
A little
When I first used my s7 edge I too noticed the weird distorted kinda 3d effect near the edges, but you get used to it really fast and when you do those videos and pictures look truly amazing, the in hand feel is great and even though I have large hands barely suffer from the accidental presses. Furthermore if you do find it an issue you can use a case, I personally use spigens tough armor which brings great protection without adding an unpractical amount of bulk.
In conclusion do not worry about it, this is a great phone and you will not regret it
Thanks for the replies, I will try to play with it a bit longer in some shop.
By the way I also don't feel the benefit of "the screen being 5.5 but not wide as other phones" (which I also read in many reviews). Of course I understand the meaning behind this, but in the end the curved edges are at least in part (maybe 50%?) wasted screen not used "properly", so I can't really say I have a real 5.5" screen (and so of course the phone is less wide and more comfortable to hold)

Sure, I get that, and I guess that's true, but I didn't really buy the Edge for the 5.5 inch panel. I bought it for its design, and the 5.5 inch is just a bonus to me. I had an even bigger device prior to the Edge, so the Edge is tiny to me, but again, I already knew that and I don't personally care about "wasted space". I get what you're saying though.
But yeah, go and check it out in a store again and see if it grows on you or not. If not, maybe take a look at the flat S7. It has a smaller screen (5.1"), but maybe it'll fit you better. I have no idea

Should I get the edge or the regular S7?

I am up for refresh and my options are S7 or S7 edge. I get my phone through the company I work for, and unfortunately the new note is not on the table.
I guess I am looking to hear from folks who have been using the edge. Is it better?
I get that the battery is a bit better which is great, but I am on the fence about the edge screen. Is it useful? Do you like it for it's aesthetics, or is it just annoying?
I know that the edge screen makes the phone a bit more vulnerable, which is an entirely different concern. Just looking to get 2-4 cents from people who have the phone before I buy. Thx!!

Personaly I went for the edge mostly for the bigger battery.. but I guess the design aswell.
Yes the curved screen is pretty annoying due to accidental touches, but there's an easy fix to that.. put a case on!
Kind regards

I got the edge one mainly because of the bigger battery and because of design-perception.
I am totally satisfied with this device although i dont use the edge this much.
But i think it depends on your usage.
I also got an Edge.
Waste of the extra money! The frequent accidental edge touches and subsequent random app behavior and wild scrolling are annoying and the edge apps are of negligible value to me. I will buy a non-Edge device next time again, for sure.
Appreciate the replies. That's my concern Jaiy. I am tempted to hang onto my s5 until the next thing comes out. Looks like the note 7 edge is implemented a little better.

I got the edge because it has bigger display and battery. And it just looks dope.
The bigger display was the reason for me. Even a very thin case will solve the accidental touch problem. As for edge functions, I do use the edge App panel all the time, and occasionally others. And I've found the edge clock handy when in hotel rooms.
I don't find the curved screen annoying in any way.
Edge. Fantastic device.
I couldn't care less about the edge functionality, but I do care about the much bigger screen on the edge version. I guess the curved edges allow them to make the phone as small as it can be with a 5.5" screen.
go with the screen size u prefer. the edge features really don't have a benefit. the s7 is a much smaller compact phone than the s7 edge. i have used both of them an i prefer the edge. not because of the edge but because of the bigger screen.
Personally, I would go for the regular S7. Cheaper, easier to handle with one hand, getting a screen protector is easier, and less attractive, less likely for anyone to steal it.
I am in the minority here, I'm well aware of that.
I went with the edge. Arriving Friday. Here's hoping it delivers.

For random touches there is an app called "Random touch blocker" I think. So that fixes those. And Edge version is a lot better. Battery life is really important for me. And Edge gives me a huge battery life compared to my old S6. Even though S7 has a huge battery You can still charge it really quickly. Just turn on ultra power saving mode, airplane mode, use amplify, lower cpu and gpu speeds and lock Your display. At lowest values the phone will lag a little but for a 15 minute charge You'll get like 50-70%. (With a fast charger).
Screen size in this case is also pretty sweet. 5'5 is not a tiny display, it makes playing games, watching videos, reading documents a lot easier. And it's not too big either. I can safely type on my keyboard using just one thumb. So it's perfect for me in this case.
The other reasons why You would want a S7 Edge are: design. It simply looks amazing. I've never seen a phone that looked so pretty. When You look at it from any angle You'll be admiring it a lot. Most people enjoy bezeless displays. Because they really will give You that amazing 3D/Bend"y" feeling.
I got the edge for the bigger battery and screen size. Using a case gets rid of the accidental touch issues (i am using a spigen hybrid case).

Let's discuss these bezels...

Okay, so I'm a new Pixel owner (yay!). I've heard and read on every review and site discussing the Pixel that the bezels are so ugly and Google is so dumb, blah blah blah.
First of all, I think it was intentionally done to make the phone more comfortable and ergonomic. If I reach for the home button, it's easy and my thumb doesn't need to bend far down to touch it. Now try reaching down to the bottom of the bezel, where most people seem to want the screen to end. It's awkward and uncomfortable! I think the design is brilliant and more about function over form. I love not contorting my thumb to push buttons. I really question people who want bezels virtually gone. That would be extremely uncomfortable!
Second of all, I got the black Pixel, and this thing hides the large bezels anyway. I honestly don't think it looks bad at all on the black Pixel (maybe XL looks worse?).
What are everyone's thoughts on the bezels? Ugly? Stupid? Helpful? Smart? Ergonomic? Other?
I honestly don't mind the bezels. Even though it feels like the fingerprint reader should be moved to the bottom and act as a home button, Apple would most likely sue.

Haha, yeah then it would be WAAAY too similar. I love the rear sensor although I wish they'd implement double tap to wake (not just double tap to see notifications) and then pair it with a knock code like LG for security but ease of access while phone is on a desk or something.

Coming from a S7 Edge, I always find myself reaching for the front bottom button to unlock the phone. I hate the rear reader. I always unlock the phone by accident when sliding it into my pocket

Wow, I LOVE the rear reader. I could never go back to the front one.
On the bright side, at least you won't accidentally touch the edge panels anymore! I heard many people gripe about that on the S7E.
I like the rear reader and could care less about double tap to wake vs. show notifications because of the fingerprint sensor. I still am dumbfounded how they implemented wake and not double tap to sleep. As for the bezels, I've never paid it much attention since the XL and Pixel have been in cases (incipio) since day one. I almost forget what they look like unless I take them out to clean them.
I also love the rear reader, but I do think the bezels should be smaller.. not by making the screen bigger but by making the phone itself shorter. If you look at the attached image, the battery is "small" in comparison to the frame, the lower circuit board could have been made to be more compact allowing the frame of the phone to be closer to the size of the screen.
Apple has too many shortcomings to mention but the one thing they excel at IMHO is design. The iPhone 7's size is perfect. I just wish it wasn't filled with all that... crap.
Rear reader is the best in my opinion.
I think the bottom chin can be smaller otherwise I'm not complaining. Its symmetrical right now.

Compared to my S7e I get zero false touches and have no issues accidentally tapping back button as i grip the phone and turn to hold it in landscape. Likewise holding it generally doesn't require hand gymnastics and I never accidentally let it slip my grip. All of which were frequent and persistent ergonomic issues with my S6E+ & S7E. There are tangible benefits to bezels that whilst some may not like them aesthetically and prefer bezelless, from a practicality stand point they make using your phone far less an exercise in hand dexterity ...

I'm also a fan of the rear reader. I came to the pixel from a Sony Xperia Z5 with the reader built into the right side power button. I was a fan of that, and the only thing I preferred it for was when the phone is flat on a table. Other than that, the rear reader is much more natural to hit.

I think I'm the only person who doesn't mind bezels lol. The only thing I'd change about the pixel is to have actual hardware buttons instead of wasting the screen with the onscreen buttons. Or at least capacitive buttons. I can't stand the thought of a phone with little to no bezels. It would be a nightmare to use and screen would be way more fragile

Who are you talking to? I am praising the bezels. Did you read this thread at all? If so, I don't know what the S7E has to do with me...?
Don't mind the bezels. Gives you something to hold on to... But if you hold on to them, you can't hear the crap bottom facing speaker. With all that space, they could have popped at least one front facing speaker if not two. This is one thing I miss about my 5x.

S7E to V20 worth it?

Sell me on the device! I currently have the S7E and its due for an upgrade and looking to pick up the V20 primarily for its video and audio awesomeness. Is it worth doing this upgrade? Part of me thinks its not really a good idea being they are pretty even spec wise (what I can see). So for people that use the phone camera alot is it worth upgrading to?
My wife has S7E. I came from Note 7. Felt like S7E was a downgrade from Note 7.
I've been thrilled with the V20 overall. I'm not a big camera person - so can't give much input there. But from an overall experience I'd definitely recommend it.
Absolutely worth the shift. Move on with V20 without any doubt.

Some people will tell you "don't because the photos will come up with an oil painting effect " however, i only see that when i zoom the photo to the maximum and not in all the photos i get to see it. But i love how this phone take pictures ans videos. And also how it sounds. If you happen to have a friend with a V20, ask him to lend it to you for a couple of minutes and give it a try. In my opinion, it is worth the $820 - 200 = 600. 600 - 149 = 451. This if you got all the promotions ?
I actually switched from a S7 Edge to the V20, and I love it. The V20 is so much faster, and I think the second display implementation is much better than the edge display (although I kinda miss AOD and the Amoled but it's not a huge loss).

I agree w 2nd display vs edge. Never used edge. If i had gone to S7, might have gone non-edge variety. Use 2nd screen all the time on V20.
Never used always on display on Note 7 - 2nd screen is much better implementation for the same info
Also thought id miss LED - haven't one bit.
Thought the finger print sensor on back was awkward at first. But with V20 just have to put finger there, not push button to activate like Note 7 - it has worked well.
Lack of physical buttons - real ones feel strange now lol.
Thought i would miss SPen - don't - EXCEPT the ability to make gifs with it.
Several other new features too that have enhanced my opinion of V20 as not only a replacement of Note 7, but an upgrade.

The one downside with 2nd screen is, being LCD, I have to turn it off at night because there's a good amount of light leaking. Not a huge issue, at least LG include the feature to put it on a timer.
I love the position of the fingerprint sensor, it's so much better than being on the front. With front scanners, you have to bend your thumb terribly to reach the scanner when holding the phone with 1 hand. With the back sensor you can practically rest your finger on the sensor. And the Tap-On unlock code is such a cool feature for when you can't reach the back of the device. The 1 thing I hate though is the power button. I love how fast the device unlocks but sometimes I actually want to see the lock screen.

I used tap on/pin personally when finger print is not convenient. But that's rare. I cant remember the last time i actually pressed the power button.

Haha sorry it really isn't that bad, just noticeable after using AOD on S7E
That's fair, I guess it's just nice to have the option. Maybe Android will do away with the lock screen in a few years anyway lol
Honestly I would say wait until the G6 is released or the Galaxy S8 is released. Then you can make your decision. Sure they are a couple of months out, but those phones more than likely could and probably will be a better upgrade than the V20. But then again, if you're wanting a phone that you can for sure root and have an unlocked bootloader then definitely make sure you pick one of these guys up soon.
Look. I came from a N7 to the V20. I actually quite prefer the asthetics and the AMOLED display of the N7. However, when I decided to make the switch, I knew what I was going for in the device. I wanted a multitude of features that the V20 had that the N7 lacked. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I actually wanted the V20 more than the N7, so it felt like an upgrade to me. If you are looking to be talked into a device, it isn't the right one for you. I say hold off until end of Feb middle March when they announce the S8 line and see what that brings. If nothing exciting is projected, then you still have the V20 (or even the G6) to upgrade to.
Love the v20 of you like crisp clear audio its a must buy.
I drive truck so i use it for music etc 12 hours a day.

Well, I came from the short-lived Galaxy Note 7.
Strictly camera wise, I think the S7/N7 camera is a clear winner, especially in low light. But the wide angle lens for the V20 is incredibly useful. Just be careful with the lens, it's fragile.
But everything else about the V20 is terrific. Multi tasking with Nougat is brilliant. It's speedy, with lots of RAM. Battery life is good, removable and supports Quick Charge. At least for my variant, it supports Cat. 12 LTE, so it's future proof. And VoLTE, which means call quality is very clear.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with this phone. It's underrated IMO.
My only disappointment is it doesn't support 3G video calls. But I've read that some US variants support this.
My most recent phones have been the Galaxy S7e, Note 7, back to the S7e, 2nd Note 7, and now the V20. I went with the V20 because it had decent specs and I'd already done the S7e twice. If you like the camera in the S7 , you'll be disappointed with the one in the V20. I'd put the picture quality about equivalent with what I got from the Note 4. Personally I will probably get the S8 in April. I miss too many things from the Samsung line like the AMOLED screen, Samsung Pay, water proofing, wireless charging, and camera quality. I also like the edge screen better than the second LCD. I find the icons on the second LCD too high up to easily hit one handed. A couple things I have liked on the V20 are the rear fingerprint reader and the metal back.
Oh that I agree. The second screen on the top is too high, due to the large screen. So I don't really use it much.
I'm looking forward to the S8. Hopefully there is a model without the Edge display. I don't really need that.
V20 is a great phone feature wise, looks much better than the S7E (in my oppinion of course), audio output is great, software is decent, but battery life is a big letdown. Choose it only if you don't care about the battery life.
Thanks for all the reply's! I think I'm gonna go with the LG V20 switch it up. Is the Version version rootable?
Well it looks like many people answered your question,, myself i had the S7E for two weeks, before seeing that there was not a lot of development for the phone. That's why i switched.
i actually came from a note 7 as well. Had a choice between a v20 or a s7e.
I figured the s7e was a downgrade so i went with the v20.
my thoughts:
1. Note 7 camera is way better. At auto, you practically end up with great pictures almost every time. Many people will tell you here the v20 camera is awesome when it's in manual, but I don't have time to set the settings first before taking a shot. Taking pictures of moving objects such as people walking will end up with blurred people even in bright light. Manual settings at a faster shutter speed will fix that of course.
2. The second screen is useful when off when I want to turn on the flash light. But that's about the only use I have for it lol. I still end up using nav button to switch apps...habits die hard.
3. Battery life is good for both phones.
4. Screen of Note 7 is still better.
5. I think Note 7 to v20 wasn't an upgrade. It was a little downgrade, but it was newer than the s7e...so I guess I really didn't have a choice. It was a Note 4 to Note 7 anyways...so still an upgrade from that.
6. Do I think you should switch from an s7e to a v20....right now? no. Last year, probably a yes...but now that new phones are around the corner, I suggest you wait for those.
Look at the Mate 9 it's a great phone with insane battery and the speed of the software is unmatched. I also have a v20

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I've used my phone for about a week now, and I just love it. The phone is great, quality, screen color, brightness, comfortable in the hand, great photo quality, nice sound. My only BUT is MIUI, but well, for the moment I use NOVA.
I have been using this phone for a month now but I have noticed a left-right wobble in the screen. Is that normal or I need to get it checked from xiaomi. The wobble just ruins the premium overall experience with the phone.

I think that's normal, I've seen it reported on a couple of the video reviews. That's the price you pay for a slider mechanism and no notch. A small price, imo.
After the first 12 hours, I'm very ambivalent about this phone. I absolutely love the display, it gorgeous to look at, very nearly bezel-less, and much sharper than my previous Samsung AMOLED (albeit an old one). What I don't like is the weight and the slippery surfaces. It's a bit better with the cover on, but what's the point of a flashy ceramic surface if it's only usable with a case over it? I realize this is a general problem with pretty much every high-end phone, not just this one, and I suspect that people who don't like plastic are the same ones who worry about themes.
Recieved mine 3 days ago.
I think it's good. Coming from a Mix 2, it's a refined version of the concept working pretty well.
Mine has also this left-right wobble, it's not wobbly.. you can push it to the side a little, if you push it but it makes a litte.
Been using mine for a few days now, and I'm getting used to the increased size. Using gestures helps a lot with general ease-of-use, particularly with one-handed operation. I can't see any wobble issues with mine, but the sliding mechanism is quite stiff compared to what I've seen in the videos, so maybe I got one that's a bit tighter. The speed of the thing is something to behold, booting takes a few seconds, and even running a TWRP backup is super-fast at a couple of minutes at most.
She's a hefty beast of a phone. I often use my phone to read in bed and having an oled display should be nicer for my eyes but even at the lowest brightness it is still fairly bright. The phone is quite heavy. I notice a tad wobble without a case if I am pushing the top right corner. I do not use the front facing camera. Not at all. MIUI is smooth but it has numerous bugs some of which make me frustrated. The main bug is that gboard will not allow me to use a personal dictionary. Other users on MIUI phones suffer the same bug. Still unresolved (there is a bug-ticket) Another bug includes the inability to keep Edge Gestures open. The gestures baked in are nice but being primarily bottom edge gestures it makes you(read me) hold the phone much lower and exacerbates the weight of the device.
Battery performance is excellent. The assistant button is awesome. You can map it. I find myself using google assistant way more because of it.
I will be unlocking and adding a custom ROM as those two bugs make my everyday use of the device harder than it should be. Especially the keyboard. It is incredibly frustrating when I need to type names and places in Japanese because of it.
I came from the mi mix 2 (gifted to my wife) and I also use the Redmi 4x. Both solid phones thanks to the community of developers. Xioami isn't available in my country so if something breaks I am SOL. However, I feel Xioami products are worth the risk.
tl/dr: Solid phone. Heavy. Fast. MIUI is good. But depending on the usuage bugs can be frustrating.

I felt the same way about using the cover, but I purchased a transparent protective film for the back and the screen, and I took away the slippery issue and allowed the phone to look like it had nothing on. It looks gorgeous!

Can you post a link to what you used? I'm now using the phone without the cover, since it makes a surprising difference when trying to wedge it into the pocket of my workout shorts, but I'm scared to death of dropping it every time it's in my hand.

I used this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KN36KFM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A30R5FB6PSKP9L&psc=1
If you're looking for a hard shell, these won't do, but it will provide some grip and scratch protection. Hope it helps.

Thanks, I may well give that a try. I highly doubt the ceramic will scratch, it's harder than the glass on the front, but I definitely need more grip. Once it's on, is there any way to get it off easily?

Yes, it's a protective film, it isn't that hard to remove.
is there a SUPER NIGHT SCENE MODE? or was that the Night Scene Mode
Is this a good phone? Happy day to day use? Is the headphone adapter decent? Does anybody LOVE this?

I do, now I have vanilla Android on it! The hardware is outstanding, the software it ships with I found difficult to use. Now I no longer have MIUI on it, it's by far the best phone I've ever owned. It performs like a flagship, but at nearly half the price of most of its competitors, and it's visually gorgeous. I can't comment on the headphone adapter since I don't use cables other than for fastboot operations.

Great! I'm likely to go for a custom ROM / not MUIU myself so it's great to hear the hardware is top notch.
I think this is my next phone. Still a bit curious about how custom ROMs deal with the excellent camera and the slider, but that's not necessarily an immediate concern.
Happy to see it get some love! I might get the jade one, and put the EU ROM on it

I think that's normal, I've seen it reported on a couple of the video reviews. That's the price you pay for a slider mechanism and no notch. A small price, imo.

Can you better describe this "wobble"? I don't think I understand what you are referring to. I'm just curious. I have the phone since two weeks ago and don't see anything weird in the screen.

If you haven't noticed it, just forget about it. There's nothing wrong with my screen either. The hardware is rock solid, the software leaves a lot to be desired, imo.
Mi MIX 3 is the best android phone I have had so far and I went through all versions of Samsung Galaxy and Google. I am using my global version with stock launcher on T-mobile LTE with no connection issues.
1. Display is just perfect, bright and beautiful with no ugly front camera cutouts.
2. Sliding the phone by default opens the selfie camera, but customizable to any other app.
3. There is a separate button on the side of the phone (like Bixby), which is completely customizable as well.
4. I love how fast the finger print scanner works in this phone. Overall phone operation speed and app launching/operation is faster than my Google Pixel 2 XL and Galaxy note 9.
5. Always on display (AOD) works as expected most of the time (it tends to move up on the screen and turns off in low light conditions).
6. There is a small message indicator light which flashes white light.
7. There is a Edge Glow (similar to Samsung Galaxy phones) feature which is supposed to only work when you receive notifications and AOD is off. I noticed the glow on occasion with AOD on and now I am using a android app "Always On Edge - Edge Lighting" to further customize and use the feature.
8. The phone ships with a plastic phone case/10W wireless charger base/Type C-3.5 mm adapter cable.
9. Camera in this phone is one of the best in the business (especially in low light).
10. Battery appears to be on the smaller side but I have had no issues with moderate use (over 60% left from morning to bed time).
11. Ceramic back is beautiful but a fingerprint magnet ; I am still using the phone without a case, which makes it a bit slippery; I placed a back protector clear film which did not help with the fingerprints but a bit easy to hold.
12. Phone is ~10 grams heavy compared to the Samsung Galaxy note, but it has a great balance and well made feel. You will notice it in the front shirt pocket for few days after the initial use (especially with a case).
13. There is a small movement of the screen in the top left corner (when you tap), due to the slider mechanism, which is barely noticeable.
14. MIUI launcher/ software is very smooth and I never felt the need to root the phone and install vanilla android version. I just changed the defaults for the browser/text apps to google. There is a drop down menu similar to any android with a screenshot toggle.
15. MIUI gives you only two sound options Regular (audible ring)/Silent. Silent mode can be programmed to vibrate; I wish Xiaomi makes it simple with sound/vibrate/silent modes with next SW update. There is a Do not disturb (DND) mode which can be programmed.
16. The stock "vibration intensity" is very low compared to Samsung or Google phones. It is easy to miss a notification or call when the phone is inside the pocket especially with a case. I don't know if any apps can let you change the vibration intensity without rooting.
17. So far, I love everything about the phone which is made better than any other android at any cost. If I drop the phone and break the display, I may not easily find a replacement screen in the local store. For ~$550 phone cost compared to ~$900 I spent on Samsung/Google phones, I am taking that risk.
