Have S7 Edge s935v model, can I root?

I've been looking around and can't find much about the 935v version compared to the others. Is there something about this version that makes it not rootable or am I just not looking hard enough? I'd like to be able to remove the bloatware and put custom fonts and such on the phone. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This root method involves using an engineered boot image that doesn't trip Knox if you do it right, however the bootloader is locked so flashing custom ROMs is still not possible.

Unfortunately I can't get odin to recognize my device. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I go into download mode, press up on the volume button, open odin, and plug into my PC right?

Stable Root for SM-G935P?

HI. I have a question regarding my s7 edge on sprint (SM-G935P) and to whether or not anyone has found a stable rooting method for it. Im somewhat experienced in this kind of topic as i have rooted my phone multiple times and have found success but all methods resulted in a very laggy phone. So im not new to this but could use a little more knowledge. From what i know, the root methods used to root the snapdragon models of the s7 and s7 edge are using ENG Boot and in result, that's why devices are not as stable as they are on stock firmware. Because of locked bootloaders and from my understanding, there is no way to root without a laggy phone. Unless you were to unlock your phone, there's no way of rooting without lag? Also, from what i gathered up is that you can convert a SM-G935P model phone to a SM-G935U. G935U is the unlocked firmware? If so, if i try to root will i keep the sprint service? I may sound silly right now but im posting this to better understand if any one of you have found a rooting method which eliminates all lag or as much lag as possible. If there's is nothing i will probably be better off sticking to my stock s7 edge like i have been for awhile now. I have found this though and im curious to know if this has anything to do with my post?

It depends on what version you are using at this time. That U root only works if your sprint phone has a binary version of 4, sprint updated the binary in December. That makes all sprint S7E phones that received that December update unable to root as they were updated to binary 5. To find out what what binary version you have, go to setting and about phone. Look for the updated version (it should start with G935P), The 5th to the last number will have either a 4 or 5 on it. If it has a 4, you can root it, if it has a 5, you cannot root it. The U root will work on all American phones as it is programed for GSM and CDMA phones. You may lose all those "awesome" sprint apps when you use the U root flash.

I am very curious on this issue also. I just moved from Colorado to Wyoming and Sprint does not offer unlimited data roaming, so I want to unlock and maybe transfer services to another company, AT&T and Verizon are the two that seem to provide direct service here. But the rooting issue would be a possible huge advantage, maybe....

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, I don't go to the sprint part of the forums as much anymore.
At the time, the U Firmware was the only way you could get root. The root method has changed but it still requires the same or lower binary version than the rooted rom. If you are binary 5 and the other ones are 4 you will not be able to root. From what I've seen so far, verizon and the U firmware is still binary 4. What makes this worse, is once you are on a higher binary version, you can no longer downgrade (I've tried during bricking). I have tried a pit file with a non sprint phone and could not get the phone to downgrade either.
Right now you can either wait and see if they upgrade to binary 5 and root then, or you can get an unlocked verizon s7 edge and get root. Both are not the greatest of options
It gets worse... Getting root on a newer phone is not like the older days. I am rooted and all I can use is an altered stock rom. Because the bootloader is locked you cannot use custom recovery and roms like lineage and crDroid. So even if you get root, depending on what you want to do, you will still be limited.

Me too. I'm fed up with not having root. I not having a easy tether for wireless (BT is too limited) I has cost me on several occasions. I am actively looking for a new phone.
This entire phone is a step backward coming from the Note 4. I lost battery changing on the fly, reliable root / roms, and hotspot, and etc.

Mine shows up in stock recovery as g935PVPS5BQK1 . anyone know exactly which custom recovery and root method for this is? If I'm in right area then that's fine for me I'll continue as is but just wanted to make absolutely sure before I carry on.

Hey guys, just looking for some opinions here on whether or not people think it's worth it to root the s7 Edge right now. I just picked one up and it has MM and binary 4 on it, so I figure I need to decide if I want to root it before taking any updates. Does the official oreo seem decent? Is there any way to make touchwiz feel less touchwiz-y without root? Thanks!

I would advise to not update to any build after october 2017 if you plan on switching between carriers other than sprint as sprint is the only carrier to have updated the bootloader to 5 and many seem to believe the others won't. rooting is possible either way.

Thanks, so downgrading the bootloader is not possible once it's been updated even with root? I see on sammobile that there are several 935U firmware versions for sprint that are 7.0 but have binary 4, are these viable options? I do have a gear S3 so i would like to not lose samsung pay/S-Health, that still happens when rooted right?

Correct, once you update to any G935P firmware QJ3 or above you will be stuck unable to install any other firmware and unable to downgrade whatsoever, even with root...Trust me i'm stuck in this particular issue atm as I obtained this parts phone with the sprint motherboard that had QJ3 firmware with the bootloader 5 on it and now am unable to use it on my verizon account leaving me with having to obtain another motherboard. the 935U firmwares are completely viable options, they are just debloated and come without carrier modifications, If you need any assistance with anyting further i'd be glad to help, i don't proclaim to be a pro, but after months of research and trails on the G935P I've learned quite a bit on the do's and don'ts lol.

Im just weighing pros and cons of rooting, if there are good roms that improve performance and battery life available and magisk is working I think it'd be worth it to root for me

I would look more into the roms listed under verizon and at&t variants of the S7E, they are more active and most roms are made with multi-carrier support...they will say in the installation guides, but the ones listed in the general forums are mainly for the international versions if i'm not mistaken.
Also, check the forums for the S7 Flat version as they seem to be more active and most of the guides/roms apply to both variants, also confirm that in their respective guides.

I just checked for updates on my SMG930P today and it looks as if Sprint is now binary 6!? Hopefully this is a hint that the rest are moving to binary 5 for Oreo. I'm going to wait on this update just in case. G930PVPU6BRD2 is the latest update that just popped up for me.

I just wanted to verify if I flash G935UUEU4BRD1 Firmware I will still be on binary 4 which will allow me to switch carries and achieve root? Is sammobile the only reputable resource for these firmwares? Seems like they charge a bit much. Thanks guys

Rooting My Galaxy S8.

Hi, I am new to the rooting game and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for a novice guide to rooting. I have tried it before and not sure I done it correctly and want to reinstall a root on my S8. TYIA

Only if you have the Exynos version of the S8. Since upgrading to Oreo, I lost root on my Qualcomm S8 and have never been able to get it again. (OEM unlock removed for some reason) Probably cuz the Canadian government keeps censoring the rest of the world to us. I dunno. But I've been checking XDA frequently since, and I have yet to find one again.

I am UK based and have a S8 via the O2 network, not sure if this will be much difference or helpful

Note 4 rooting questions

I am new to rooting phones and I have a couple of questions first can I use the s pen after rooting second what is the easiest way to root the phone and third what to I get for rooting the phone apart for newer software.

Hola! Welcome to XDA.
First of all I would just like to give a friendly reminder to include your model number in your post. For instance, my Note 4 model variant is the SM-N910V. From what I've read the 910V is the trickiest to root other than the SM-N910A which never had a method of rooting as far as I know. So if you're using an AT&T phone aka SM-N910A then you're unfortunately out of luck. I think most other variants are relatively easy to root depending on your experience level.
Spen functionality depends on the kind of rom you're wanting to use. I mostly just use a modified 6.0.1 TouchWiz rom and the spen works as good as if I didn't have root. In case you're wondering, the note 4 officially received 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) and TouchWiz is what Samsung branded their software (until recently anyway). If you want to run anything newer than 6.0.1 your chances of a working spen decreases, but that also depends on your particular model. The note 4's with the exynos chip has a Nougat port that I believe has a working spen.
The last question, what can you do with a rooted device, all depends on what you use your phone for. It really would take a long time to list the possibilities. If you have something specific in mind I could try to point you in the right direction though.

The international version is the SM-N910C
But regardless, the 910F has a huge amount of rom development, i would say you just need to dive into the note 4 snapdragon rom thread and get used to flashing your phone in odin, all the resources you need are right here!
