Zte axon 7 major battery issue - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi there, I'm all stock & everything and have no bad apps running etc but when I first got the phone I was getting 4 hours SOT everywhere no problem. A year later I am now getting 2 hours 30mins at home and when I go out I get 1-2 hours which is super bad and annoying. When I hit 40% the battery dropped the fastest and starts lagging loads especially with WiFi on. Could anyone assist me with this issue? I don't want to upgrade to the Pixel XL 2 because this phone is too good apart from battery. Thanks.

Hello, have you recently install some new applications wich could be not optimised, and if not, have you tried to reset the phone ?
Often, when people make their updates they don't reset the phone to start over a clean situation and this is where problems happens after a while. We are all a bit lazy....

Or maybe the battery is failing?
Reset is a good way to tell but have a peek at battery stats to see if anything odd is happening. I guess if the battery is failing you need to decide, get a new battery installed or hang out for the next Axon.

I advice you clean ur phone and flash a custom stock rom with the right bootstack, and report again.

I've got a pretty good SOT with the stock Rom, it's not really mandatory to install a custom Rom.

Thank for reply, not sure where I would get a battery installed from, might wait for the axon 8

Why would anyone want to run custom rom on this phone when random reboots are reported on most roms. Stick to stock. Custom roms are buggy and not needed as in androids early life.

Because random reboots are 100% your/the user's mistake (except maybe on pnw, but that's sort of alpha). If your custom ROM reboots itself, first of all check all of the zips that you flash (magisk, xposed for example) and you should be able to fix it eventually. I always had that sort of trouble but some dedication fixes it...
I would stick to stock but after you get problems in stock the only ways to solve them are miflash or going custom (and then going back if you want).

Yes, but it's the goal. To start over a clean state and it could fix your battery issue.
If this fail, that's mean you've got an hardware problem.

There's an option to erase everything but leave the phone data such as photos do I erase this also or is it ok to leave it

What would be the point of even using the native reset option??
Back everything up, then head up to the recovery mode and do a factory reset plus full data wipe if there's an option for that

Save your datas, photos etc.. on external drive and erase all. After the reset you have just to restore it. 30 minutes it's not a big deal.
Go simple, go efficient.

bro what time does it take to backup your photos? just ****ing clean your phone, delete everything!! and photos are no data, photos are internal storage!!
---------- Post added at 08:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:10 AM ----------
by the way i think its a user problem why your battery is not working well. And also i NEVER faced any reboots on custom stock rom

Keep cool, no need to be aggressive. Some people are not very comfortable with smartphones even if they use it. You don't know who you are facing. It's an help forum.
And for your information, photos, music, texts, etc.. are datas in IT. 0 and 1, remember?
And internal storage is only memory, a support.

Lol sure, fix your battery problem with a simple data wipe...
You need to actually format data, and if possible, reinstall the system entirely with a wipe. Wiping data won't do crap. Formatting it might as well improve it some.
FYI, internal storage is in the data partition. Formatting data formats the internal storage. Internal storage is /data/media, and a data wipe avoids erasing /data/media.

The Most Clean Installation Possible.

Hi guys,
"Do I need to make a full wipe?", I see this question asked over and over on development thread. And the developers patiently answer all the time. Well you can stop asking, here is the answer.
There is a lot of reason why you should do a full wipe.
1-) It prevents FC's, bootloops, gives better battery life and reduce other unexpected problems.
2-) By trying to save a little time you might end up with problems, loose a lot of time try to fix them, and finally making a wipe anyway to solve your problems.
3-) Some people just flash over their old ROM and then complain that the new ROM is buggy or Android plainly sucks. I don't think it's fair to blame hard working people(who gives you FREE products) for your own lazyness.
So why not do it right from the begining and save some time to everybody. Here is the procedure that I use(Thanks to Memnoc and DarkAdrien.) and is the most clean installation possible.
Memnoc and DarkAdrien's original post was created for battery optimization, I only re-wrote the steps that involve flashing a new ROM.
This will work with every Rom but some ROM's might ask for extra steps (fix permission, etc..), read instructions first.
1- Make backup of your current ROM. (no need to do this everytime, I keep one backup of my favorite ROM)
2- In recovery go to "mount & format" and format system.
3- Format data.
4- Format cache.
5- Go to Main menu and do "Wipe data/ Restore"
6- Wipe cache partition.
7- Go to Advance and wipe calvik cache.
8- Flash your new ROM ONLY. (IMPORTANT: Wait after #10 before flashing anything else)
9- Reboot
10- (This step might not work between ICS/JB or between AOKP/AOSP/Samsung)
Go back to recovery and in Backup choose "Advance restore" and then choose "restore Data". -Reboot again
(if you have problem with some apps, you might want to uninstall them before the backup and reinstall them the normal way after #10, or you can use Titanium Backup to test if they work well in the new ROM)
# 2-3-4 are not doing the same thing as #6, Read original post bellow for explanation.
This whole process from 1 to 10 should take you 15 minutes. From 2 to 7 should take less than 1 minute.
Your phone will have a very clean ROM and all your apps, contacts, SMS, games, etc... will be exactly like they were before.
I've flashed over 50 roms using this procedure and it always work fine.

Then, by your own admission it is not always necessary. "better" ≠ "necessary"
If posters were clear that it is only recommended, not necessary, then no one would need to ask the question in the first place.
I've seen posts telling people to do a wipe when upgrading from official stock to another official stock. There is absolutely no need for that except in the rarest of circumstances.
full wipe is only required if there are major changes in the new rom to be flashed or the user is facing any trouble in his previous roms. Unless otherwise its a waste of time.
That list is a little excessive and needs to be tuned down. When you flash a rom it already formats everything except for "system"

Question.
I've been using LI5 for quite sometime without any problems, and a couple of days ago suddenly the phone started showing signs of sluggishness.
Even moving between the screens of Apex launcher seemed to be quite jerky. I tried uninstalling some apps etc (thinking they might have caused some memory leak or something), to no avail.
Just wanted to ask, will a full wipe and reinstall solve this problem? I'm planning to restore all my apps back.
I upgraded from stock ICS to stock JB, then through three more JB revisions.
I have yet to perform a wipe and everything is running great!

Well I'm sure if we think it over there can be plenty of reason why someone doesn't have room for backups if they are a flashholic, loves music, games and always on the go.
Who knows, I don't think it's that big of a deal.

I have a 16GB phone and an 8GB card and, as of yesterday, they were full to the brim.
So- yes! People can have that much data.
Just one question................. Do I need to do a full wipe?
I'm sorry I just had to, but pretty much the rule is if the Android version is the same a full wipe is not needed, if it's an upgrade to the same android version ex 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 there is a chance you will need a full wipe, if the android version completly different ex 2.3.6 to 4.0.1 or 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 there is a good chance you will need a full wipe.
The exception is stock ROMs are usually designed as no wipe, therefore they have been designed so you shouldn't need a full wipe, but if there are any problems, like lag, or bootloops you should wipe, but it is not always needed.
Aughhhhh.
I've been quiet for a while and nice and peaceful.

I have my music, pics, nandroids, titanium backups and the Rom I'm about to flash on my exSd. I pull the card out, wipe the phone clean, Stick it back in, flash rom, restore apps. Very quick easy process.
If you're that anal then you should save up and invest in a 32gb sd card or whatever bigger is available. We'll all need one eventually

Developers sometimes label their ROMs as "No wipe". Whether you feel this is accurate or not, don't be surprised when folks don't wipe.

Antutu results falling??

Hi all.
Firstly I know that benchmark results don't really mean much, but surely they are an indication.
When I first flashed my current ROM, I was blown away with the results.
Now that about 4 days have passed my max figure has dropped a thousand from what it was initially. No amount of retries is anywhere near.
Do my question is. What causes speed to deteriorate over time and is there anything I can to to 'freshen' things up again.
Cheeeers : )

your setup, your apps, memory that isnt being released or is leaking somewhere. antutu usually does better when there is more free ram. try rebooting.

I'm running the same settings, apps and I make sure that I I have killed all running apps. I was hitting 22.4k and now only manage 21k. Again, only numbers I know but still a deterioration of something lol.
Ill try a reboot. If that doesn't work I may try reflashing ROM.

These benchmarks are never a reliable method to test performance. I got 21k on a first test, and on the second, 1 min after the first, I got 19k.

the scores wont be exactly the same every benchmark, things variate. but they should fall into a certain range. if they start deviating majorly from that range, then it could be an issue(even if its just a heat issue). but over time, its usually ram thats the issue, like certain apps not releasing ram when closed/killed. a reboot usually solves it. thats one reason why i try to reboot once daily, keeps the system a bit faster than not rebooting.

Well.. A factory reset doesn't wipe your sd-card. A wipe may do it, depending on the type of wipe. A full wipe, for example, deletes everything on your phone.

factory reset/wipe data is the same. but like was said above, a full wipe would be to wipe everything including the storage(which is unnecessary 99.999% of the time).

no need to wipe the system or dalvik/cache. just factory reset/wipe data. when you flash a rom, itll automatically wipe dalvik/cache too.

first thing I would say is, do odin to your new firmware, and the out the system, without installing or restore apps, and app data, see if everything is working fine, sometimes by restoring older app data you might run into some problems..

What do you mean with "do odin and the out of the system"?
Use ODIN.. what I mean to say is do the full firmware via ODIN,
And use it like that, a fresh install, see if everything is working well, you should have no problems.
Then see when the lag starts if you are restoring your apps with data.

you didn't answer to my question earlier. Did you do a full wipe ?
by default, any flashing of firmware won't wipe your device. It has been suggested by most ppl here, and other forums website, that if you face any trouble with the new firmware, always do a full wipe. It helps most of the time with most of the funny funny issue.
no i didnt do a wipe as i got it OTA not through odin

are the 2 of you the same person ? LOL
@drashrafsabry : very simple, if you done the OTA already, now try to do full wipe (I assume you are not rooted)
1st of all, you will need to backup your contact (if you keep on your device), you can do by exporting it to sd card, or merge with google/samsung account.
2nd thing you need to backup your sms (if you still need to keep it).
3rd and most important : full wipe from stock recovery, it will delete the entire internal storage. So, if you have any data (photo, movie, songs, etc) which you keep it inside internal storage, you must copy first to your sd card / or your PC / laptop (somewhere else other than internal storage.
Once you finish with all that backup, you may shutdown your device (wait until vibrate to make sure it shutdown completely).
Once it is shutdown, press the 3 combos (vol up + home + power) to go into recovery.
Once inside recovery, choose wipe data, and after finish choose wipe cache.
when it is finish, reboot.
PS : you will need to re setup your initial setup after that.
Good luck.

Good luck.

GSI ROMs Lenovo Z6 Pro?

I was wondering if anyone tried installing a GSI Rom on this phone since the phone can have an unlocked bootloader and meets the minimum requirements. There is an android 10 GSI available.
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-10-custom-gsi-project-treble/
I tried a few ROMs, all of them went into "Qualcomm Crashdump Mode"
Maybe I'm not flashing it right, but the post says to just flash it into system...
I've tried:
Flashing GSI system alone
Flashing GSI then flash boot and vendor
Replacing a system img from a fastboot ROM with GSI
All of the flashes ended up with "Qualcomm Crashdump Mode"
maybe I'm doing it wrong...
yeah you missed to format data at 1st through twrp... it's a MUST before GSI flash ! but i can tell you that it's just time wasting... i tried almost all of them.... too many thing don't work really satisfying and/or messed up everything

I honestly don't remember, I tried a few times, with a few different ways
So I can't tell for sure if I just wiped, formatted or factory reset... (I had a few beers in me...)
After failing with the GSI, I wanted to go back to the ROM that I was before (a fastboot_11.0.350)
But for some reason it didn't work, so I tried a few more options
After everything failed, I started to think that my phone it bricked, and I'll need to get a new phone...
But I managed to flash a 11.0.350_ST with QPST (first time that I managed to do it successfully)
So now I'm with this ROM, I don't like it so much, but it works...
I hope now you know why I can't remember if I did a wipe or a format...

I'm looking to consider buying this phone, I was surprised about it's price, can someone of you inform about how is GSI working in Z6 Pro? From my point of view no one stated that they're using GSI, after Qualcomm Bootscreen error. Thank you

You can use GSIs as long as your data is unencrypted. I've used many of them. The main issues are fingerprint, media over Bluetooth and DT2W not working so far.

Have these issues been resolved for GSI roms at this time? I'm asking because I'd love to replace the ROM on my K10 note/Z6 youth!

A very STRANGE Redmi Note 7 PROBLEM

Hello,
i seem to have badluck this time with custom rom and development for this device. Last i was struggling with encryption problem (when the great @DarthJabba9 showed me the right path) and now a strange thing happened.
So when i successfully booted into xiaomi.eu (latest) first time without encrypting my recovery function, everything was working fine and good, until i installed whatsapp provided all the permissions then suddenly it didnt look for my backup and acted like there was no backup (i nearly got a heart attack) and after setting up the name and so, i got to know it cant create backup, nor do anything which involve the use of internal storage because it is not writing nor reading internal storage, then i backoff and flashed back 11.6.0 stable, whatsapp start working normally, tried again with other xiaomi.eu and miglobe versions - failed same result, whatsapp only working in stable 11.6.0 and not working in other roms. Also, search function didnt work for me this time (so i found out i am the only one with this problem). does any body has a fix other than telling me to unsinstall, reinstall, clearing data etc.
- except whatsapp everything is working fine (TILL NOW)
Oh....please.....nobody has a clue???
The best was is to backup, then flash the right fastboot rom, OrangeFox the last build and then u rom with the right steps! Step by step... Good luck

Maybe to copy all to a computer before u flash the fastboot rom. Look on the options from mi flashtool...

Well thanks for the advice, but i am looking for a fix, and what you said is same as wiping internal/formatting data/clean flash, ah.....so already tried. Does anybody have a fix?? Oh.....please....i am waiting...
You can try a modded whatsapp like Fouad whatsapp. It might solve the issue + extra goodies. Search it on web.
Make sure you backup your chats before uninstalling the app.

Strange. Really hard to blind guess what might be the issue. Guess you should try using an aosp based rom.

Whatsapp does not block you if you ask for otp multiple times in a day. It will restrict the sms for some hours after three attempts i guess, after that you can get it via call. Four times is enough for a day.
And having my number would not help as I wont be giving you the otp.
probably you use deep clean and erase the WP data.
