The bounty has been completed by BSG and also Arnova. Unfortunately it looks like BSG does not have PayPal. As Arnova has been very active and supporting our device I have donated $50 to him.
If BSG ever gets PayPal or the ability to accept donations, i will also send him the $50 bounty I pledged.

Hi All,
I was advised to start a bounty thread in hopes of getting GCAM focus working on the Mi6 / Note 3 / Mix 2.
Discussion in regards to GCam can be found in this thread.
Please keep all posts in this thread regarding the amount you are willing to donate/pledge and not development/discussion.

Doesn't work for me.
This version GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V1 Run in MIX2 , manual focus does not work, other complete work (including portraits)
Please, post those updates inside gcam thread.
We are sick and tired of testing those apks and they do not work.
If someone can get this to genuinely work on the MI6 with no need to fiddle around on the AtomicOS Oreo build they can definitely have £5 from me.

What settings do you use for hdr+?
I think BSG can collect this bounty now.
New release: MGC_5.1.018.177470874.41362666_MI6_1.0-beta seems to be working perfectly on Oreo (Atomic OS 8.1), auto focus and touch focus works without toggling anything.
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/...C_5.1.018.177470874.41362666_MI6_1.0-beta.apk
I have yet to find the best settings, but after 10 minutes of testing Model Nexus 6 + and Config Nexus 6 HDR+ Auto seems to work great. Try Nexus 5X and Config Auto too.
Edit: Great news! After several confirmations we can definitely say that this version has fully working HDR+ with touch and autofocus on AOSP and MIUI, Nougat and Oreo. Big thanks to BSG!!
Edit 2: After some testing, for me Nexus 5X + Auto works best.

Hi, do you still on atomic OS?
Can you extract snap camera apk from atomic and share it with me brother?
Related
Please note: I'm just sharing information here. All credit goes to the amazing devs who made this possible (links below). My very small contribution is at the end of this post.
Long story short, after trying out the Pixel 2 XL for two weeks and then returning it, I must say that the Note 8 camera(s) are meh by comparison. I'm not saying they are bad---I certainly got some nice shots out of the rear camera (the front camera is garbage). However, there is just no comparison with the Pixel 2 / 2 XL. Most reviews agree with this, BTW.
Now, the specs for the Note 8 and Pixel 2 / 2 XL rear cameras are actually pretty similar (F1.7 aperture, 12MP sensor), and I'm sure Samsung used excellent glass in their flagship. (I'm disregarding the zoom lens; that's a very nice plus, and I enjoy having the option.) What changes is the software in the Google Pixel camera vs. the Samsung camera app.
It turns out that talented devs were able to extract the Pixel 2 camera and make it work on any device with an Snapdragon 835 processor---including the AT&T Note 8! The following URL is an up-to-date repository:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
Additional information in this thread.
Please note: I make no representation as to the safety or security of these APKs. I've been using them with apparently no adverse effects, but that's it. Use at your own risk.
My very small contribution: I took a number of pictures in a variety of challenging situations with both the stock camera and the ported Google camera. You can see the results here:
Camera comparisons
I added a comment to each picture, indicating which camera app was used and what to look for in a given specific shot.
The tl;dr version is that the Google Camera does not exhibit the (admittedly slight) yellow/green tint that affects most photos taken with the stock camera. Moreover, it captures a lot more detail in HDR shots. Finally, skin tone and texture is more pleasant and realistic, without being overly sharp. I think noise is slightly lower, too. The improvements are mostly visible using the rear camera. The selfie camera is so bad that there is very little Google's AI can do
Obviously, these are to some extent subjective judgments. You may like the stock camera captures better, and that's fine by me! I'm just sharing the information.
Of course, the Google Camera does not use the 2x zoom, and cannot do portrait mode / live focus shots. For those, you need the stock camera.
I got the Note 8 mainly for the use of the second telephoto lens.. I can see the use for certain shots too though. But I do love me that live focus mode haha
Beauty is, you can have them both... I did it and I've got them both on my desktop now to use depending on what I want to do! Thank you for the Post and Links! Merry Christmas MarcianoS!
Hi all,
I'm the OP. I thought it would be a good idea to help the developer by providing useful info on our devices and how the modified GCam works for us.
@Arnova8G2
Here is the Camera2 test data for the Galaxy Note 8 ATT (which most likely applies to all US devices). All stock Nougat, with the latest December patches.
Using your GCam mod, version 1.4, with the following settings:
Config Camera HDR+: Nexus 6p
Model: Pixel 2XL
HDR+ Parameters: Super High
Advanced->Portrait,ZSL
Note: non-Nexus settings for the Config Camera parameter crash the app. Odd, as Pixel 2017 ZSL used to work on version 1.2.
The following work:
HDR+ rear camera
Portrait rear camera (yes!)
Not working:
Portrait front camera (sometimes it works, sometimes it crashes the app)
Video
ZSL (probably due to having to select Nexus 6p as Config Camera parameter)
Hope this helps! I will provide logcats in a separate post later.
@Arnova8G2
This is a logcats of GCMod5 v. 1.4 crashing when switching to video. Captured using Logcats Extreme, per-app log (which filters the logcat using com.google.android.GCMods5 as key). Please let me know if this is useful, or if you need the full logcat.
Update: using @Arnova8G2's version 1.5 beta 2,
- rear and front HDR+ works
- rear and front portrait mode works
- video now works
The above is with the Pixel 2016 Testing setting for Camera HDR+. This also gets rid of the lag present with the Nexus settings.
I am using Arnova8G2's version 1.5 beta 2
Settings:
Config camera HDR+
Pixel 2016 Tuning
Model
Pixel 2XL
HDR Parameters
Super High
And I dont seem to have the portrait mode option when I wipe from the left. I see Slow Motion, Panorama, Photo Sphere, Lens Blur and Settings. Under Advanced I checked "Use ZSL" but no option for portrait here. I am on Verizons Note 8, Android version 7.1.1
Am I doing something wrong?

Recent versions allow you to toggle between Lens Blur and Portrait. Go to Settings, Advanced, and turn on Portrait Mode. Then you need to "completely close" the app (bring up the task list and close the Google camera app, which is called GCMod5). When you relaunch the app, you should see Portrait where you now see Lens Blur.
I realized I didn't have the newest version which is in his thread. Just need to search for it
Hey @Arnova8G2,
Just tried version 1.5, and unfortunately there is a reversion relative to 1.5beta2. Portrait mode ok no the front camera yields a greenish picture. This is with the same settings in both versions: Pixel 2016 tuning / Pixel 2XL / Super High.
Not sure if I should provide a log, as there is no crash.
@Arnova8G2
The latest version (uploaded on January 15) does not work at all on the Note 8. Black screen, and I can't even bring up the menu. Logcat attached.
The last known good version for the Note 8 is 1.5beta2.
Update: @Arnova8G2 version 1.6 is out
Tl;Dr: same functionality and issues as 1.5. Green tint in portrait mode using the front camera (see attached pictures), slow motion crashes. Also I think HDR+ does not work with the front camera.
Rear camera works great, including portrait mode.
Video works fine too.
@Arnova8G2, please let me know how I can help debug the front camera.
Update: @Arnova8G2 version 1.7beta is out.
Good news: the green tint in portrair-mode shots using the front camera is gone!!!
The front camera works great in portrait mode in good lighting.
You can make it work in low light by choosing Nexus 6p model but that makes the back camera not work.

Hm.... Both cameras work well for me with the Nexus 6p setting. The only issue is that there is a delay when taking a photo (using HDR+, which is the whole point of using this camera app).

On my note8, when I choose Nexus 6p, the back camera would kind of start snapping the picture but would then pause. Then the screen gets dark for like 2 seconds then is back to normal.
The picture is not recorded.
Once this happens for the first time, the "HDR+" would no longer show the ✓ indicating it's ready to shoot HDR anymore until I close the app and reopen.

BTW the tick mark only shows when the app thinks that HDR+ is needed. Sometimes you just need to point the camera somewhere else for it to reappear. (This s with the Nexus 6p setting; with Pixel 2016 tuning there never is a check mark.)
Hi guys,
first, I'd like to thank to @Arnova8G2 for his development and porting of Google camera. Due to his effort, many of our phones take much better photos than with stock camera. If you don't know what the app is, please visit this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/themes/app-collection-camera-modded-t3591177
His app has many different settings and I wonder what are the best setting available. If we can find the best settings, we all can take better photos!
I made a small form which I please you to fill (takes aprox. one minute): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1...ntry.560585008=95%+(default)&entry.1874216323

Which ROM you run and version of it (Lineage 15.1, 14.1 etc.)
Settings you use
Sample photos (at day, at night, portrait mode, video ...)

For sample photos we should only take on comparison photos (same user, motif, different settings) if possible. Would be easier to spot the differences. On the spreadsheet, we should also classify the most used settings as separate, named groups, to minimize clutter and find the best setup.

Was attempting to match some of the results in this thread, but by changing GCam versions I've lost my front camera HDR in LOS 14.1
Any recommendations for me? Configured for Nexus 6 Auto/Nexus 6P/High/95% JPEG. Tried the following:
Arnova's 5.1.018_v1.5 - Previously functional, but now no front camera HDR+ and front cam portrait is upside down.
Arnova's 5.1.018_v1.6 - Same as 1.5
Arnova's 5.1.018_v1.7 - Not a fan of manual focus, same issue
Am I missing something? Always clearing data for version install, and stopping/starting app for each setting change.
Solved: GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V6 on LOS 14.1 has all my HDR+, all portrait, and no more upside-down photos. Other than the directories created for each photo; I can't figure out how to disable that.
For those on stock ROM, there is a modded Gcam that works on 32bit. This Gcam does not have all features, only HDR+ on rear Camera, front HDR is borked so needs disabling in the settings if front camera is used. You also need camera2 api support by adding this to your build.prop, "persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1".
The camera was made for Nougat but works on stock Oreo also.

No, as I said in OP, only HDR+ on main camera. Most features definitely need 64bit rom.
I have been informed that by changing the default black level for front camera to 16, HDR+ works. I can confirm this is true. Thanks to XDA user capedukewuhaha for pointing that out.
Also I can confirm that this 32bit mod actually works better than all the 64bit GCams I have tried on custom ROMs. I am on linage now and this camera works best.

There is hdr+ and less image processing. Stock camera is better for video, I use both cameras when on stock. If the extra hdr is not important I'd stick with stock since you can use Snapseed to get a similar hdr+ effect on photos. I have something else in testing that reduces the over image processing of stock camera which I will post if it works on Z2P(originally it is for Moto G5 plus, both same hardware almost).

Settings GCam HDR+ 3.2.045.
Model and both cameras - choose Nexus6P.
HDR+ parameters - Super High.
What the front-facing camera would work in HDR+ - Black Level Value(Front) to choose - 17 (but will work both with 16 and with 15 if it is necessary).
What the back camera would record of video - in Resolution & quality - Enable video stabilization(switch off).
With these settings works all but slow motion.

MGC_3.2.045_FINAL_3.1.apk
Anyway, this app is very buggy, if u want to take good shots with it set model to Nexus 6p and auto exposure correction to *2 or Min.ISO.
Remember API2 must be enabled (on stock rom).
But, you won't get amazing pictures with this apk (our sensor, Sony IMX362, is capable of a lot more in terms of quality), HDR+ Algorithm is not very good.
I fixed focus of a bunch of gcams for our device, will post here later maybe (this subforum is dead). You will need 64 bit OS.
Anyone tested out any gcam ports?
I've just tried one (from the Mi 8 xda forums link below, via telegram) and initial tests show photos and night sight works! Not tested it thoroughly yet though, such as video etc
It's this one:
MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V2e.apk
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/themes/mi-8-google-camera-mod-t3803984
Update: seems most things work other than portrait mode, just crashes
Hi cd993,
what for a miui version runs your Mi9 out of the box? is it on stable channel? Is camera api2 enabled as default in miui9 stable yet?
can you please test if HDR+ is working and can you confirm the port uses the primary (48mpix) lens for photos or does it use another from the three lenses?
I hope i get my Mi9 tomorrow, then i'll do a big photo comparison between Mi9 camera vs. my Mate 20 pro and my grilfriends Mi8 (with google port).
Can't wait to unlock the phone and hope a pixel experience port will arrive soon
Thanks

Hey,
OK see attached my miui version.
HDR+ appears to work, it takes that little bit longer to process, though not tested thoroughly. The photo was 12mp so presumably just the standard lens
Thanks fotr the info.
Its the stable channel version, lets look how the beta version is ... after 300hours ...
Can you test the camera setup again? 12mpix can be correct even if its shoot with the primary 48mpix sensor because the sensor uses "pixel binning", these combines four to one pixel to increase sharphness and lightning. Maybe the pixelbinning were just applied in the sensor itself. Its easy to test which lense the port uses. open the google cam port and cover the lenses with a finger, if you look at the viewfinder. when you cover the lens at the top and the "viewfinder is covered" then the primary lens (48mpix) sensor is used.
Thanks

THank you very much.
So happy that you can compare Mi 9 with Mi 8 Google Camera performance.
Considering whether to upgrade from Mi 8 to Mi 9 for camera upgrade. THank you.

Yes, but i can finalize the comparison even after March 16th, due to traveling.
I've done a comparison between Mi8 and P20pro last year but Mi8 was shooting without Google Cam port, because the port wasnt availible at this time.

okay.. hello rommco!!
Can you tell me the best settings you have found to make gcam work efficiently on our mi9?
Pics are too softened by night with normal camera. And with night mode they are catastrophic too much artificial sharpening.

Yes, but the photo is only 12mpx, also in Raw mode.
Much better to use Arnova latest version. Since mi 9 supports c2api level 3 can utilize the aux camera feature for telephoto.

Hmm just tried this one and selected the Add Aux Switch, but can't seem to see one being added anywhere?

Tap on the swap camera icon, it uses telephoto after switching to front cam
Ah thanks yes I see now.
Is there a way to use the wide angle? Perhaps not yet but will love it if/when we can
I made a comparison between Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 9.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ecGsAyjPUKVQ7adX9
I'll gradually add more photos.
See the watermark to differentiate the phones.
Images without watermark were captured with the Google Pixel Port (in the dark with Nightsight)
Images were captured via point and shoot, both "AI" Features are enabled. Google Pixel with HDR+
Can somebody link a scam that works directly with the mi9? Is it possible to take photos in 16/9? 12 mo lens I think...
Thank you.

I think not yet since most ports are from phones with dual cam only with telephoto. Hoping someone will port a build specifically for mi 9.
Found a version where portrait works.
GCam_6.1.021_N7P_test2.3.apk
Motion photo also works, theres also a toggle to always show night mode for easy access which I think is really good.

Thanks very much for posting this find!
Let's keep it up. I had tried one of the LG wide angle ones but unfortunately it didn't work with the wide angle lens of our Mi 9.

Good find,
Could someone upload the APK and config somewhere, I'm unable to download from 4pda for some reason.
Thanks!
Is astrophotography working on RN7 on Gcam?
I downloaded latest version of Gcam and setup all in developers options and still I cant get astrophotography..
I read somewhere that this is not available on MiUI..
I've unlocked and installed a custom rom (Atom OS, Android 10 based), thinking that being on Android 9 based MiUi would be the problem for not having Astrophotography mod working on my RN 7 - unfortunately, even on the new rom, this is not working.
Astrophotography doesn't work either for me with RedMi Note 7, MIUI 10.3.6.0 and Google Camera v7.0.009 V13 by Bulkin043 aka InnocentParrot.
I tried to put the phone on the table, I set the night sight, the 3 second self-timer, the focus on infinity, as seen on some YouTube videos, but the 1 minute and 6 second shot does not happen.
What am I doing wrong? Or what should i do to enable it?
Astrophotography it's pretty new I think it's not available for our model yet.
Astrophotography works in default miui cam. I managed to click some decent pictures.

It works good with miui manual cam settings.
Same with Redmi 4x even the camera2api is already level 3.
Infinity focus, 3 second timer already set.
Can hoy share a photo with that mode?. Don't ver confused with the regular night mode?.
Thanks

You can see a comparison near the end of this youtube video: vOPA7Xz8fTk
(sorry but I'm not yet allowed to post an outside url)
Or in other similar videos searching for google camera astrophotograpy.

I don't think so, because the length of the shot in normal night sight mode is about 6 seconds while in astrophotography the shot is about 1 minute and 6 seconds long.
very nice, but I think it´s not working for me on the official global miui. It may be related to a firmware on the phone.
