Only option is to format data and type 'yes'
Then flash ROM and restore backup.

No you want to go to format and ask you to type yes. Do this. Then flash the ROM you want. Fulmics, stock, etc.

Ok doing that

Fulmics installed correctly but it still asks me to enter a password in twrp

Have you set up your fingerprint or code/pattern to unlock?

Yes and it's a pattern

Do the following:
1. Put Fulmics rom or any other rom on the SD Card and put it in your phone.
2. Format your system, don't wipe because your phone needs to be configured again.
3. Install TWRP on your phone with ADB.
4. Install the Fulmics rom.
5. Now it should be all okay.

TWRP is working properly now I can now make backups with TWRP, thanks

Can't do anything with TWRP. Cannot mount /data and unable to find crypto footer.

Hey, so I rooted my Galaxy S7 edge exynos, and everything was great. However, when I boot into recovery, TWRP can't do anything. It can't backup, install images, nothing. It says my memory is 0mb, and if I try to backup it says "cannot mount /data and unable to find crypto footer". I can restart my phone to system and everything works perfectly. Is there a way to fix this? I'm using latest version of TWRP (3.0.2)
Thanks guys!

FORMAT DATA, it's explicitly stated in the instructions. You must format data to wipe encryption.

Is there no way around this at all? It's really a hassle having to reset my phone every time.
Is there at least a way to install xposed without formatting?
Thanks!

You only do this once, use flashfire or titanium backup to backup your stuff.
did you flash this after TWRP?
"If you only want a bootable system partition or writable data in TWRP:
Download dm-verity and force encryption disabler.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP."
https://idlekernel.com/fun-stuff-trust-me/no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip
same here !:<
Same problem a few days ago. Caused by secure startup or encrypt device obviously lol. Only fix for read/write on data/internal storage is factory reset in stock recovery. Unfortunately this was the only fix for my fussy G935F.
TWRP couldn't mount data to wipe anyway I tried and the only way to flash was through selecting extSD.
i dont have escription enabled though ._.

I find a solution, just go in wipe and format data , it will removes encryption on internal storage. if not works try a factory reset in stock recovery them try again, S7 is encrypted out of the box and Twrp can't read or mount data. Works for me in G935F.
how long does it take to format? i chose exfat and it's taking ages... am i doing something wrong?

i unlocked a nexus 5 and got the same problem, formatted data, all seems good now
is there a way to save my data? my phone is oneplusone
if you use twrp to flash xposed, it'll still work. But your data is still encrypted.
Should I do anything else after the Formating data (install TWRP again, root again...)?
I remember that I did format data in my last phone and it completely deleted everything including OS, so now im little afraid.
Currently I can't do nothing in TWRP, not wipe and not backup...

Thanks, it worked! Too bad that the only way to get this is by loosing all the data .
Hi all,
I followed instruction on installing TWRP and also have root. I also installed the no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip file, but I still can't access internal SD. It says 0mb. Also after installing the zip it similar stated 'unable to mount'.
When I try to format data it can't mount it.
am i missing a step??
ideas?
Thanks in advance...
PS: not sure if this is relevant, but it keep coming up with the same flash screen message: "keep system read only?"
I tick the box says don't display this, and swipe to allow modifications, but get this message every time.

You have to format the data after you installed twrp. And then you can flash supersu and no verity opt thingie.
Thanks for the reply... It wont let me format it. 'says can not mount'
I'm having the same issue here. Although I can root, I cannot wipe data, so no way to install a custom ROM

encryption password on boot

on my A2017U After unlocking the bootloader and having twrp 3.0.4 installed I went to install resurrection remix and gapps and upon boot it asks for a password that I had never set up. before installing the ROM i formatted the data and wiped everything. What do I need to do? I reloaded a stock rom and in the settings it says the phone is encrypted. I've tried searching for answers to this but I haven't been able to find anything..

Are you sure you are ACTUALLY USING the 'Format data' button? Wiping won't do anything to the encryption (i'm asking just to be sure).
Otherwise try doing this:
-Format data, wipe system, dalvik, cache
-Flash Universal Bstck
-Flash your modem
-Flash the ROM
-Flash either noverity-opt-encrypt-axon7 (I think the name was that one; just make sure it is for the axon7 or ailsa_ii), or SuperSU/Magisk which should have that packaged in.
This really shouldn't happen...

yes, I am actually using format data button and typing yes. I will try using the noverity later this evening and give you a followup
If I remember this right you have to use both in twrp,
factory reset and format data, I read this here on XDA or Reddit before I unlocked my bootloader.

this is what I did.
1. Boot to TWRP
2. wipe/factory reset
3. advanced wipe everything but sd card and usb
4. format data, type yes
5. install ROM and Gapps
6. boot.
everything loads okay except I get it asking for password
I have not tried another ROM yet or the noverity-opt-encrypt-axon7 I will have to do those later tonight.
One more thing I was going to try is remove the lockscreen pin/fingerprint on the stock before doing anything

Do this after you flashed rom and gapps, only factory reset and format data, no need to wipe other stuff.
Edit: I did this directly after the unlock, I flashed the latest official twrp through the unlock twrp version, rebooted to twrp, advanced wiped caches and data, not system, flashed bootloader and modem from the Los thread for my axon version, flashed dark rom with gapps, rebooted and run into the same issue as you. Back to twrp, factory reset, format data, then reboot and everything was good ....., Or Format data and then factory reset, try both if necessary.

You just need to wipe data cache dalvic after flashing the ROM
You have the factory reset step in the wrong place. Do it after the rom and gapps installation...
Essentially the phone is still encrypted though factory reset . You need to get rid of the encryption AFTER you flash the new ROM...
Change the data file system to ext4.

This seemed to do the trick for me.
To change the file system type in TWRP 3.2.3.0:
Go to 'wipe', then 'advanced wipe' and select 'Data', press 'Repair or Change File System' and then 'Change File System' to EXT4. It will say "format" which often means "delete" but didn't remove the ROM I had flashed moments before.
I also did this below first- but without doing a re-flash of the bootloader and modem:

Idk if this will help with your use case, but for other users, it can be good to know.
but for the stock ROM: Settings -> Security -> Screen Lock -> Enter your pin -> It should ask you if you want to shut off the password on boot up

Unmounted data (twrp not ecryption it i guess :()

I got the same error. If you go to wipe and use the format data button everything will get wiped except TWRP but since the memory on the phone is properly formatted you can connect your phone to a computer, open the phone memory like an external hard drive and just copy and paste the ROM zip and your root app zip and then flash them in TWRP. It should definitely work.

Can't create a backup through TWRP.

I tried creating a system backup through TWRP just now for the first time ever. Throughout the process, it gave me multiple messages saying "unable to mount data" and the same for some other folders, and when the backup supposedly finished, it just said failed.
Is there anything I can try without actually wiping either of the partitions? This obviously because I'm trying to create a backup so I can wipe afterwards.

That's the TWRP version that I've got installed.
I just reinstalled both stock firmware and reflashed TWRP but the exact same issue persists. At first I was able to mount data though, I could flash zips such as Magisk etc. But after having set everything up again on my phone, I couldn't mount data anymore.

Maybe I wasn't very clear.
I flash the stock firmware, set that up to enable OEM unlock. Then flash TWRP, wipe /data, flash magisk and other required zips (at this point, data is mounted). I then set that all up however I want, install apps etc.
If I want to create a backup after all that, it doesn't work cause of the unable to mount /data and /storage.

The instructions I followed to install twrp
Flash twrp (which you have done)
Format data
When finished reboot back into twrp(use twrp reboot menu option)
Flash no-verity zip via twrp ( have to make sure you have it on internal storage or SD card)
Then flash everything else
Not sure if you need RMM state unlock if your bootloader(OEM) is already unlocked in developer options though.

Just as matter of curiosity I use FX file explorer (root) in the menu filesystem it should tell you what format your data partition is mine or ext4. I have read that some people through twrp have changed it to something like ext3 and then back to ext4

At first it didn't seem to help, but when I tried it again after reflashing everything, I am now able to mount /data.

From AOSP to miui

Hi,
Running latest evolution x rom and want to go back to miui. Simply wiped everything in twrp and installed xiaomi.eu rom - installation was successfully but when It's finish booting and the set-up screen should be there my screen just goes black and set-up screen is coming again and again and again and again. Even tried different miui ROMs. Was running completely fine a week before.
Any suggestions?

Sorry but I'm out of ideas then. I usually go back and forth xiaomi.eu and aosp but I haven't encountered this. I usually wipe cache, dalvik, data, and system. I also have to reboot to recovery after wipe before flashing xiaomi.eu to be able to mount the system partition.

Oh sorry I misunderstood, no I just wiped /data.
As soon as I copied the rom on my phone again I'll try that if I'm facing the same issue :good:
I followed this steps to come back to MIUI from LOS:
1. Wiped everything (cache, internal, vendor, system, data)
2.After wiping I did "format data" and said "Yes"
3.Rebooted to recovery TWRP again
4.Mounted my phone on PC and copied rom.zip
5.Flashed the zip and reboot to system
Try this and it should work, for me did! Good luck!

I don't know precisely why, but yeah, it's not the same thing. In fact, I had problems too, but formatting data after total wipe resolved them
formatting data "Yes" is another thing that is important when you flash custom ROM or go back to stock ROM.
After flash the miui, go back wipe -> Factory Data -> Type (yes) -> restart
it will be works
Same here
I flashed fastboot rom to get device work again
