Thanks to the community! - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Over the last week I have done a lot of reading here as I picked up a used PH1 on Swappa and was learning about the device, how to root, get hotspot working, etc.
Found all the answers here in these forums and wanted to say thanks to this community for making it easy. I have decided to go ahead and sell the device on Swappa, I love most everything about it but it doesn't seem to work for my situation because of the RF substantially less than my Pixel 1 and the area I live is coverage challenged.
So after learning about everything I then came back here to return it to stock and relock bootloaders in anticipation of sale and again found all the answers I needed.
I tinker with many devices and there are several communities that don't have the device support and info that this one does, I hope future Essential devices resolve the issues I had because I wouldn't hesitate to try them again.
Regards and thank you!

HSPL and ROM virgin no longer

Everytime I google anything regarding my HD2 it brings me to this forum, which I know is predominantly for developers, but says a lot about the genuine customer service teams, whether it be manufacturers or service providers. So thanks!
I don't understand most of the processes or jargon used here, but got some good guidance from Wacky Bannana, who has shown me where to look for answers as opposed to telling me them, which has helped me get to grips with a lot of the terms I would never have known.
Using the sticky thread Walkthroughs and videos, I've just finished adding hspl and updating my ROM. Extemely pleased with myself right now, even though it's simple.
I was somewhat put off initially, after reading so may complaints about sms bugs, dodgy camera, the fact the US is getting better specs etc and people wanting to move to Apple or Google, but sod it, it's been fun learning all this and a bit of patience and appreciation for everyone's hardwork, and I can look forward to building on what is already a great phone. I'd hate to end up like my David Brentesque boss who answers every question by pulling out his Iphone and saying, "I've got an app for that!"
Laugh it up dickhead, I can run two things at once.
Cheers
hello,
strangely enough i popped my rom updating cherry tonight too. i imagine this is probably not the right place to do it but i just wanted to thank all of you for all the help you provide here. i was dazed and confused and like harris everytime i googled something i would be led right back here.
i have a t-mobile phone with its silly restrictions and lazy software. since updating roms, if i didn't love my phone before now i want to have its child.
i'm incredibly grateful for the assistance. much more to search through - next step registry editor. thanks again everyone and apologies for my maiden post most likely being in the wrong spot.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hello everyone! I wasn't sure where to put this... I wanted to put it under the android development section, but didn't want to clutter anything. So, I am pretty much a noob when it comes to all of these modifications to phones. I have pretty much been reading these forums non-stop for the past few days, and the amount of information on here is incredible. Last night I flashed the Axura 2.2.6 ROM to my phone with no problems! I was amazed at how easy it was! All of the applications people developed are so useful like ROM manager and Titanium backup. You could never get these kinds of tools and info from the manufacturer. I am truly in awe of the smarts and talent the people on this website have. So thank you so much, for taking the time to create and put tutorials together, so people like me, who don't understand all of the programming language and resources needed to make something like a custom ROM come together, be able to reap all of the benefits my phone has to offer.
-Tara
P.S. I wanted to click the "Thanks" button on a lot of the threads, but it wasn't there?!
Glad to have you around and glad that the Forums helped you out. This is a tight group (most of the time) even if a lot of issues around Samsung currently going on.
Thanks for the welcome! I look forward to what comes out in the future for these phones... as far as controversey around Samsung... I was part of the group that was dealing with Motorola and the Motorola Cliq. I was able to get out of that mess and switched to the Vibrant, and I feel like I'm encountering it all over again. I know the manufacturers have no obligation to give us updates, but then don't promise it! And if it comes, it's kind of like a really nice surprise! When companies make promises like an upgrade by a certain date, and don't follow through, of course people are going to be pissed! But, with the help of developers, we can enjoy all the benefits the phones have to offer. And probably, the modifications made by developers are better than the manufacturers would do anyway!
Welcome
Tara, glad to have you here, as you already know these forums are a wealth of information regarding your phone. I also got to the vibrant from a bad experience with a phone. (the Samsung Behold II) Follow along, don't be afraid to ask questions when you have them, as someone will most always be there to help. You may even find like I did that you don't need to worry so much about the updates promised by TMO and Samsung. Most of the 2.2 ROMS we have available to us now are already beyond what the updates would give us anyway. So I would encourage you to read, read, read through the threads and to support the developers wether it be Team Whiskey, Master, Eugene, or whoever.
But most of all, welcome
Welcome, because of the people here you will so much more enjoyment from the phone. You are right the stock item is really substandard compared to the custom awesome work of the people in the android family and specifically this forum.
Keep reading, especially the stickys/bible and other notable instructions.
Enjoy and welcome
I have been lurking around<(creepy?lol) and reading the crap out of stickies here for about a month now, and I too would like to extend a token of grattitude to all of the extremely intelligent and helpful members here. Thanks for taking the time to explain procedures clearly and concisely. The custom roms and information you have provide truly make this device awesome.
-Brad
P.S. Sorry for jacking your thread Tara, but I didnt want to add another thanks to the general.
Thanks for all the friendly messages everyone! And that's ok Brad! All day I have been watching folders open on my phone, and just the way the flip out, out of nowhere, is so cool!!! I am just amazed at the work the developers have put into making these phones run so well. And, on top of that, sharing the wealth with all of us, and including step by step written tutorials and videos. They have my complete gratitude and I truly look forward to see what they think of next!

Good Price?

Do Ya'll think that $130 is a good price for a brand new Impulse 4g to use on straight talks byod program? And i've searched and searched and cant find much on the support side for this phone is there any promise for the future?
Price is nice, but you don't have any custom roms. If I remember correctly, u8800 roms don't work on it. Also, there is very little support from huawei.
Well i went ahead and ordered it i've seen a few people having successfully flashed a custom rom onto it or atleast got it up to gingerbread so there may be some hope yet
Good luck If you get some roms running on it, write a topic to general discussion, and if you have questions, put them to this section.
Will do and thank ya for the reply

Why did you buy this phone?

It was a random guy selling it by the train station where I lived. I was skeptical at first as it could've been stolen but at the end of the day I had my head am filming so I just took video of the transaction. Got it $15 cheaper than what the store was offering it for with a discount with a month of activation. Sounded fair to me.
The screen is what sold me. So much space to it. A Google search later and I was sold on it from the processor, screen size, and internal space. For $35 it wasn't bad.
Tinkering with it these few months has been nice. I've never owned an LG device before this one, can't say I will after though. I'm a Samsung/ZTE kind of guy. Those companies love the developers.
LG released source code like 4-5 months after the phones release, which really sucked development wise. We were pretty much screwed from the getgo.
A year later and there's not much development done for it but we do have the people making the effort still and that is what development is about. The ability to keep trying g no matter how long it takes. Who knows? Maybe we will find something new, or maybe LG will give us a new platform update (mm or n).
In the meantime, I still carry 2 phones as this one is just to tinker on.
Why did you get this phone?

This thread is not designated for this discussion you're bringing. This is a discussion on why users have obtained this device, reason why exactly people got it. What they expected from it.
As for your comments, I did not take them personally, I took them personally on behalf of the developers and users of the forum. As a community we must work together, not tear down whatever foundation is existent.
As for your participation, from my knowledge you helped with the as330 model as best as anyone could, but the ms330 model - you copied a couple posts which did more harm than good. Multiple threads of the same information to newcomers confuses them.

I got this phone because I had upgraded from the LG L90 with T-Mobile JUMP. The lady told us it was a better phone in the store. It's really not that much different tho. I still like this phone though.

New to this scene...desperate for AptX

Hi all,
I've had a 6P for a year...despite some frustrations it's a reliable phone and I had no intentions to move off of it this year because there arent any phones on Verizon which interest me right now.
Anyway, I'm a bit of an audio snob and have been super frustrated about lack of AptX support in this phone. Seems that's no longer the case (?) with Oreo and I am desperate to get it working. I've installed 8.1 OTA, that's it.
Can someone here help me learn how to do this in the easiest, most painless way possible? Does some basic research on TWRP, magisk, etc...but it's all rather foreign to me still. I do have some basic knowledge with rooting...early Androids when I was younger, but for the last 5 years stopped paying attention as I found stock to more than suit my needs. So I'm basically starting from zero.
If there's any scenario that doesn't force me to reset my device, and also will allow me to still accept OTA updates, that'd be amazing. I'd rather not sacrifice security and ease of use.
Thank you so much in advance. Super pumped to join this community.

I saw that thread, thanks! It doesn't really have a blow by blow process for beginners though. Is my question best suited for that thread?
