No one answered my last question about substratum andromeda so I'm just gonna ask this: does anyone know how to start andromeda without connecting to a PC and without root?
Hello?

I don't think it's possible. The only way I've seen available without a computer appears to require root.

I recently received the ota 4.3 update for my at&t gs4, but I've been dying to try cyanogen mod on my phone or at least be able to remove a little bloatware. Could anyone point me to a tutorial somewhere to root this thing if it's possible yet? I do have a little experience with flashing roms and rooting with my old samsung replenish, but only with odin... thanks.
-EDIT Also is kingo really malware like many people on xda say? And does kingo work with the new MJ9 build for AT&T's S4?
If you have a little experience flashing Roms than you'll be experienced in the art of Google search. There are many threads about this already

Works the same for att even though its for verizon. Same root method but beware it could add malicious stuff to your phone and computer. Do a little researching first before you do anything. Good luck

And even when your rooted there is still no custom recovery for 4.3...so no rom flashes are possible

Maybe. When someone smarter than I am comes up with a way to unlock the bootloader or other exploit.

Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I've been looking stuff up about vroot and apparently it contains some sort of trojan... I also read a comment on YouTube where someone with the at&t MJ9 build had success with it but what are the risks other than bricking?
Wasn't sure if any of you knew about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157
Basically you can now root the S5 and NOT trip knox.
Really it seems to be most phones that are 4.2.2 work.
This doesn't get you a boot loader etc. but gives root at least for those wanting to not risk warranty and get the bloat off.

Woops, didn't catch that when I looked this AM, it wasn't in this section of the forum though.
Sorry about that :/
That one is closed too though FWIW and when it was closed it was just moved here.
After the simplest root ever, how does one go about a custom recovery? Do we still have to odin that or is it flashable?

If you do custom recovery you will trip knox making this method for you to root having been useless and you should have used one of the other options that does it all at once hah.
Can you use this root method and get the hotspot mod working without a custom recovery?

I've been wondering that exact same thing! And also if we can root NE5 with it!

You can but you need to be aware that you can get stuck in a boot loop. But if you are willing to take the risk.
Download the Odex version that matches your system, this is critical. Extract the services.jar and services.odex files. Use a root explorer to copy them to /system/framework. Change permissions to rw-r-r. Reboot and it will either work or not.

My device is rooted. I am not using any ROM. How do I perform a safe and easy system update to 4.4.4 without losing my root?

Not sure what you are looking to gain from updating. I've been told adding mods as you like to mock update, as oppose to taking the update and losing root because of the patched exploit is the better way to go.

Nope, locked bootloader prevents changing the kernel, so once you upgrade that's it.
To the OP: 4.4.4 for the Verizon S5 isn't even out yet.

I saw a question just like this about a month ago and one the replies was something like this... " if you people out there want the new stuff just to be running NEW, you shouldn't even be rooted because you don't really understand the value of it. You don't even appreciate it." You should be happy, as it is, with the fact that that there are at least 5 Custom Rom's out there AND all you had to do was sideload an apk. Updates are not necessarily stable OR really add anything...usually just a patch for those that are too eager for "New", so you can't be rooted.
Why do you think there are OTA blockers on these Rom's? For a reason. It's just too easy now. You didn't even have to plug your phone into your PC and execute a console exe like for the S2. Some of us actually had to wait patiently for like a month just hoping for a developer to find an exploit! :SMH:

All,
I have tried the fixes and the BS Free ROM for my GS7 Edge while rooted and nothing seems to fix the issue with receiving texts while the screen is off. Making a call to kickstart the sms service is the only way that works. Does anyone know of a more tried and true method to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I've decided to post this after unsuccessfully finding any information about the g935u. Everything I find is about flashing the u firmware to other devices. I would like to start a gathering of people to share links, files, ideas about this phone and it's potential with "more stable rooting methods that don't use Eng and possible bootloader unlock" I haven't been active with xda since note 3 so please excuse my inability to search and post correctly. This phone would be so much better unlocked, maybe we could start a petition or a bounty? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm holding out hope for something better for our phones. Im still on PG9 with Aug 16th security patch 3.18.20-7856276-eng. I remember waiting over a year just for root for my sm-n900a when geohot came in and owned the phone within a few days of trying lol
