Hello all,
I am looking for a good comprehensive guide to creating my own .zip files to flash certain changes I like to make when flashing a rom or just adding files.
Now I have found a few good guides here on XDA but they seem to no longer apply as the update script needs to be in edify and not amend. This is the issue I am having so if anyone can point me to a walk through that explains this type of thing I would appreciate it.
Anyone?
lol, i dont think developers/people-with-knowledge would go into a Q&A sub-forum .
I'm neither on of them, however here is my would-be-successful attempt p) :
1- Make all your modifications and finalize them, the root folder must be /system/ .
2- use apktool to recompile as an apk (apktool b system)
3- sign that .apk.
4- rename extension to zip and violla
theoretically, it should work.
Not shure if this can help you, but i created a zip (original Script is from dungphp) to replace files on my device from CWM:

To avoid filling the forum with question i'm just going to create this thread and ask all my questions here.
I finally rooted my nexus 7 on my mac and now am hoping to install a USB ROM, i couldnt post a link but it seems to be most popular for in car installs.
I downloaded the file and compressed it to a .zip file then tossed it onto the android. Next i booted into clockwork recovery the selected install zip from sd card>Choose zip from sd card> 0/>cm-10.zip>yes - install cm-10.zip
After this the tablet says
Finding update package...
opening update package...
installing update...
installation aborted...
Can anyone help me and/or tell me what i'm doing wrong? all help is appreciated. Thankyou

A more acceptable procedure is to find - via SEARCHING - closely related threads first, and post your questions in those threads. That demonstrates to people that you've actually tried to help yourself by searching. If you actually have something unique to say, in that circumstance you start a new thread.
"Help me install a ROM" is not a new idea here on XDA, whether you have a problem with it or not.

It's already a .zip file to begin with when you download it. Is your Mac uncompressing it automatically when you download it?
If so, use something other means (not Safari?) to download it. FTP. Wget. Firefox for Mac.
Then, if the ROM developer publishes rom file MD5 signatures, validate that you can compute the same checksum on the file downloaded to your computer.
If you then subsequently copy it to something else (such as the tablet), check the file length and/or the MD5 signature of the copied file as well.
Was there not some additional message on the screen besides "installation aborted"? Details are important.
The most probable guess at the moment (from your narrative) is that you borked the download and/or did something else that made the custom recovery unhappy.
BTW, when you install a new ROM for the first time, you generally:
(a) make a full Nandroid backup first (using the custom recovery)
(b) perform a "factory reset" in the custom recovery,
(c) flash of the ROM file.
Attempting the last step without the first two is just begging for trouble.
good luck
I created a zip that is easier to follow and forget about in your storage. You'll never forget which file to flash....1st 2nd 3rd or 4th.
1. download & extract zip onto your SD card.
The instructions are in order by file name

Found the files here...I just made it easier to follow when you're inside of twrp and don't have the instructions in front of you.

Viper4Android working on stock kernel [Easy steps]
How is this different than the thread you pointed to just a few threads down?
Easier to remember when you download it. That's basically it. Helps me out, so why not share it.
So, you may know that I have another thread here where we are trying to crack the password for dlt-cm.rar
There is a second file called oxygen-dlt.rar
This file can restore the opo to stock oxygenos
I don't have the file but if anybody has it, please upload it. Oxygen-dlt.rar is password protected BTW
Please vote on the poll and tell me if you really need this file or if dlt-cm.rar will be just fine
If enough people vote for yes, I'll try to get the password to this file
Does anyone firstly have this encrypted file ?
I would be happy to release it but I only have dlt-cm.rar
Let me explain what these files do
Dlt-cm.rar (I already have a thread about cracking this one and mirrors for this file are up) - this one restores it to stock cm
Oxygen-dlt.rar (I only have proof that the file exists, I have no download link and no mirrors for it) - this one restores it to stock oxygenos
Both of these use Qualcomm download mode. The process is similar to @netbuzz's unbrick method but with these files, you can go directly to cm/oxygenos instead of going to coloros and then cm. It is also safer to use these files and saves a lot of time
Request to mods to close this thread
I'll try to get oxygen-dlt.rar
Thread closed at OP's request.
1. open MotoBootLogoMaker.exe (you can find it on this site)
2. double click on logo_boot and choose the pic you want to for a logo
3. double click on logo_unlocked and do the same
4. save the file as what ever you like
5. open the zip file created and extract the logo.bin file
6. drop the logo.bin file onto the unlocked_logo.zip (I also found this file on here)
7. install the newly created unlocked logo file via twrp

I really don't understand the point of this post... and because you are a relatively new user I will explain some things about XDA.
You shouldn't share (or sort of share as you did) other people's work without proper references and links, it is in bad form... if you don't have the "rank" to post links, you should do the best you can, and the thread for this tool was consolidated to ONE thread to reduce the confusion of having multiple threads. A reference to this app would also not belong in General, but in the Themes & Apps area, which there is already a thread for this here (although it's not named very clearly).
The Motorola Boot Logo Maker app is available in this thread by @caitsith2
