Hi,
I had a OP5 with stock 4.5.14, TWRP, SuperSU and wanted to update to 5.0.1 with TWRP 3.2.1-0 for Oreo by codeworkx and Magisk 15.2
I deleted SuperSU within the app, said to restore boot but keep recovery. After reboot it got stuck, black screen and blue LED.
I booted into TWRP, flashed the codeworkx TWRP, and downloaded this supersu uninstaller: https://www.theandroidsoul.com/unroot-supersu-uninstallation-failed/ because Magisk wouldn't install (Error 1), I assumed because Supersu hasn't been deleted properly.
This supersu uninstaller seemed to have screwed up my internal storage since all files seem to be there (file sized match as far as I can tell) but all file and folder names are randomized and I can't read anything, neither can I write new files on it. In windows it starts copying but it gets stuck.
I was able to install a "signed" supersu uninstaller from this forum and after that I could flash Magisk and the no verity zip.
My phone boots now into 5.0.1 and Magisk seems to be installed. So it seems to work but what can I do about the internal storage?! Is this some kind of encryption or has this supersu uninstaller messed it up? If so, how can I fix it? Thanks!
Here's how the internal storage looks like: View attachment 4382242
the files and folders look the same if I go to the file manager on my phone, so it's not a windows issues. help please!

I formatted data in TWRP which fixed it. Not sure what caused it, if flashing the supersu uninstaller ****ed up the file system or corrupted the permissions, or something else entirely. Fortunately I did a backup of all my important files.
That's normal because of an error in decryption when moving from Nougat to Oreo.
Once you are on Oreo, dirty flashing new Oreo versions should be ok.

and afterwards have tried to use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
but received these messages (the first is while on recovery, the second is after pressing on adb sideload in the recovery
right now only the data partition is mounted but i am not sure whether it's suppose to be like this, and i still don't have zip inside my phone.
the recovery is team win recovery project v2.6.2.0
please help as i am getting crazy. i wouldn't mind using the toolkit if i knew which option to chose.
thank you
Hi, to install a 4.4+ rom you need to update your recovery to 2.6.3.3 and then try sideload again.
P.s you wiped the user data partition.
well i was already noted it is something like this but i also cannot install the PA RC2 via the adb sideload.
is there a previous version available, as i didn't find any?
and how can update the recovery in such a state?
Download the recovery img not zip!
Copy the img to adb folder boot to bootloader , open cmd and type: fastboot flash recovery file_name.img .

Thanks it worked! I installed the factory img of kitkat I'll try installing vanir later!
I just got this phone, and am enjoying it.
I installed the unofficial TWRP from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...overy-unofficial-twrp-touch-recovery-t3921637 . I just got a new "OTG" update for this phone that I want to install.
However, I just learned that you can't install OTG updates normally with TWRP installed as a custom recovery. I also have Magisk (systemless root) installed.
I still want TWRP installed for the benefits, but I also want the improvements from the official OFG updates. I am also aware that OTG erases root with each update.
Does anyone know how to install this latest update (without losing all my data)? Is there a custom file/build I can flash that will update my system but not wipe everything?
It shouldn't be any rush but I don't want to be running behind on all the important updates coming to this phone either.
Thanks.
(UPDATE; Deleting the compatibility.zip file inside the latest OTG update rom .zip file from here: https://www.fonearena.com/blog/279737/xiaomi-redmi-note-7-software-update-tracker.html , made the installation suddenly work! Yay! I also installed Magisk.zip again, because I probably would need to anyways. Should be easy from now on!)
Hopefully this will help someone else!
(Looks like my issue is similar to this recent post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...overy-unofficial-twrp-touch-recovery-t3921637 . Not quite sure if I understand the directions completely however... hmmm...)
If there is a ota just download the full Rom. Works with twrp..
After Update install magisk again.. And voila. [emoji6]

*edit*
Better you use orangeFox recovery, theres no Chance to overwrite with original recovery on Update.
I flashed twrp via Odin and then flashed magisk zip via twrp. Also updated magisk both zip and app via magisk manager after that.
Now I tried to uninstall a system app using root uninstaller but it shows me this message
Android 7.1.1 J510F. What step I missed?

It was because your system was read only.
When you boot twrp for the first time it will ask you to swipe to allow modifications or keep system read only. You should swipe to allow modifications that's all you did wrong

I am going crazy with the same error. I buy thr Root Uninstaller Pro and it prompt me the same message.
I am on Rooted Xiaomi 11T Pro, with unlocked bootloader and TWRP Installed.
Can you guys guide me how to grant full Root Acces so i can Uninstall System Apps?
Hello all,
I just updated my 6T (international version) to OS 10.3 with TWRP 3.3.1-30 and Magisk 20.1, and no problems there. I did a full wipe, so we should be back to square one. Now, I'm attempting to convert a GPS joystick app to a system app and I'm running into issues where it will not let me do it regardless of how I try.
1st Attempt: I downloaded Link2SD and attempted to convert my app to a system app. At first I was told I had no space on the root directory (picture attached). Not sure why this is since the phone is completely wiped with nothing but factory apps installed, but I deleted a couple of unneeded apps to free up the space I did need. After this, I still got an error message that said mount: '/system' not in /proc/mounts (picture attached). I found a couple mentions of this error on here that mentioned remounting the root directory to make it writable, but nothing on clearly how to do that.

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2nd Attempt: I rebooted my phone into TWRP, mounted the system directory, and attempted to use the TWRP file manager to manually move the app to /system/priv-app. I was able to do this in TWRP, but when I rebooted the phone it just hung on the boot screen (the one with the spinning red dots) and never made it past that screen. It didn't freeze on this screen (the dots kept moving), it just never made it past it. When i went back into TWRP and deleted the file I had moved, it would reboot like normal.
So, any advice on where to go from here? It's getting frustrating.
Thanks in advance.

This's my error message in TWRP:
It appears everywhere, while flashing, wiping or trying to backup/restore.
OS: LineageOS 18.1
Recovery; TWRP 3.5.2 (Latest)
Rooted with Magisk and flashed pre-rooted TWRP image
-----------------------------------------------------
Error reason:
LineageOS 18.1 encrypts /data in a way that prevents TWRP from decrypting it.
Even when choosing no locking mechanism (Pin, Swipe etc.) decryption still fails.
Error symptoms:
Backup/Restore via TWRP is not working due to /data error
Constant warning message "could not open /data permission denied"
Lineage Recovery has the exact same problem, it actually doesn't even display the internal storage due to its inability to decrypt it.
-------------------------------------------------------
How I've "fixed" it:
Formatting /data stops the error messages, but that's just because the encryption is removed by wiping the entire drive.
This also messes up the ability to create backups in TWRP.
-------------------------------------------------------
For comparison, this is what the log is supposed to look like when /data decryption has been successful:
Just found out that can't backup rom...
OS: LineageOS 18.1
Recovery; TWRP 3.5.2 (Latest)
Rooted with Magisk and flashed pre-rooted TWRP image
...setup is just like yours.
If you have found out some better solution than format, please share link.
Thank you!
