No root ad block for Lenovo Tab 4 8 - Thinkpad Tablet General

Just purchased the Lenovo Tab 4 8 purely as a media device for travel. Did not want to root but cannot stand the popups. Installed Block This and not only are the popups gone from the browser, but some of my apps that have popops no longer show them. Beats having to run the risk of losing OTA and warranty. Will most likely root after the warranty expires like I have on all my other devices.

May i ask sir if you have twrp installed in your tab 4 and is it the wifi or the lte version may i ask?

No there's a mistake in Google Translate you provided.
translation should be "KingRoot is the first to support Xiaomi Note"
It's apparently not Galaxy Note

Yes, it does work, but you'll lose the root after your phone reboots. It works, but it doesn't stick permanently; just temporarily. I had a plan to root it temporarily and delete all the bloatware from my AT&T Note 4, but during the rooting process, it automatically reboots your phone; therefore, it fails to keep root.

Any more info on this?
Have other people tried this?
If so, on what model and Android version?
Kind regards, Stefan.

Temp root on my wife's Verizon Note 4 allowed me to do the following:
1) restore her apps and data from her other phone using Titanium Backup to her new Note 4.
2) use APN Backup Restore to import 1400+ APN settings
3) use Advanced Signal app to forcibly switch the phone to use GSM/LTE (auto PRL) - she uses this phone on AT&T.
Point is, temp root has use cases. Would not have been able to do the above without root. ..or at the minimum, temp root.

First time owner of an Android device, have a couple of questions

I've been an iPhone user for years but I've always wanted to move on to Android because of how much more freedom it provides compared to IOS. Jailbreaking was somewhat simple to do but Apple would be quick to patch that out and they are just so restrictive, on top of having weak hardware it was enough for me to want to move on. I've owned my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for a week now and I'm still getting used to this new OS and so far I'm finding the edge screen to be annoying because the way I hold the phone my skin would touch the edge and it would just make the side bar continuously pull out. Anyways I'm looking to get the most out of my new phone.
1. Is there any way for me to prevent my phone from auto updating? yesterday it said there was an update available and I didnt want to immediately rush into updating on the chance I would be missing out on rooting my device but then a couple of hours later my phone would light up and it would update all my applications as well as the firmware without my consent. As wonderful as that sounds I would prefer to make that choice myself so I dont accidentally update past a firmware where its possible to root. Even after updating is it possible to rollback at all or no? My device is now on 6.0.1 so I hope I'm not too screwed.
2. I have some preinstalled apps I am positive I will never use in my life such as Uber (I drive my own car) and Facebook (I dont have Facebook and dont plan on it anytime soon). I saw options to disable it but I would prefer if it was outright deleted so is it possible? I would like to save on the space that it takes up no matter how minuscule that may be especially on apps that are just dead weight.
My phone is Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and my service provider is AT&T.
I'm exactly in the same boat as you, having just moved to Samsung/Android after using iphones since it's first release. It feels so great to have the freedom that comes with the S7 Edge.
I too found the edge screen to be annoying, but as soon as I bought my case ( OtterBox Commuter) that issue you describe quickly dissapeared, I beleive any case will deliver the same result, as you'd been griping the actual case and not the edge screen .
There is a way to disable your play store updates through the play store settings.
As far as firmware updates you can control these in the Settings - About options. However I don't beleive that Android updates are there to plug any capabilities of rooting Android, from my understanding as long as the baseband is unlocked, and that will depend on which version of the Edge you have then it will remain rootable regardless of any software updates pushed. However someone with more android experience is probably best to confirm this.
I'm suprised that your device came pre-installed with Uber and Facebook, I had to install them through play store and likewise am able to uninstall them. There is an app called package disabler in the app store but as the name suggests it only disables them which you say you have the option to anyway. I beleive a root will be able to fix that.

To be very honest i did hands on many android smartphone but my love to windows phone always increase respectively
. Do you really think a hard core windows lover its gonna be easy to sift at android .
On the T-Mobile version you can hit postpone when it pops up and then schedule it.
Thank you ih8un for your response. I guess I'll wait until rooting becomes available in order to delete these preinstalled apps.
Can anyone confirm if firmware updates can patch out rooting? If yes how do I disable or prevent firmware updating? I cant seem to find that option anywhere in the settings.
*You have got snapdragon version which have locked bootloader so unless samsung and at&t push out official update that unlock it, it is unlikely your device will get rooted at least not normal method.
1.It is possible but unlikely that new update can make root impossible(assume that your s7 get bootloader unlocked and root by flashing supersu) but if your device get root in special way by using exploits(like jailbreaking ios) update will patch up exploit and disable rooting.
2.Uninstall preinstall app will recover no space for user since system partition has fixed size and separate from data partition.
(Preinstall apps is in system partition. User apps and data is in data partition)
Also once your device is rooted it will list your software as custom and disable ota update.

@RemixDeluxe couple things.
Package DisablerPro even though they don't uninstall the apps such as Uber it does disable and they won't show up in your folder nor update.
To stop automatic app update go to Playstore settings and check the do not auto update box.
As far as firmware update I took the update so no biggie
Since the bootloader on the G935A ATT is locked down tight I seriously doubt there'll be a root exploit but if someone does find one if you root you won't have to worry about auto updates because the device won't be able to take the OTA.
I use a thin Speck case and Case Mate makes a good case as well and they will eliminate the incidental screen touches.
I've had the Galaxy S series of devices since the S2 and I've got to say in my humble opinion of course you won't find a finer device.
Yes I've owned several other android devices as well.
I've bought the international S7 Edge and that device is fully rootable so if you can come up with the money it's an idea to consider.
Even the Tmobile S7 Edge bootloader is locked down now so that's out of the question.
I hope I've answered some of your questions.
Feel free to hit me up if you have more.

I'm confused by your post, I thought rooting the phone was the equivalent to jailbreaking on IOS as in it makes the device open source but by no means is it official by the developers of the OS.
So are you saying I can only disable updates once my phone is rooted? I mean how would I stop it in the first place so I can get root to begin with? sounds like a catch 22.

I dont care about applications updating since that doesnt affect the OS in terms of exploits but for firmware updates I want to be able to not update because I imagine Samsung or AT&T (whoever it concerns) would not want their customers to root their devices and have open souce access they arent suppose to have. Maybe I'm too used to Apple stomping out jailbreak and I should ease up with Android updates, this is all new to me so forgive my lack of understanding.

Honestly I doubt very seriously if there will be root for the ATT, Verizon, TMO s7 edge. Just like the s6 edge or Note5. There was root for a very short period for the s6 edge but the exploit was patched very quickly. It seems devs aren't even trying to find root for ATT devices since the bootloaders are so tightly locked.
As far as updates to the OS since root isn't available there's no worry about exploits being patched.
It sucks tremendously but the major carriers are more concerned with security than anything else.
Tomorrow my ATT s7 edge is going back to the corporate store and from now on I'll be buying the international versions outright.
I've been lucky since I've had a couple other devices that I was able to sell on Swappa to offset the cost.

So am I completely screwed out of rooting or do you think there will be some workarounds in the foreseeable future?

Never underestimate the xda community even if it looks grim now I'm keeping a positive outlook that us variants will eventually have root. But maybe that's just wishful thinking. But there are plenty of modifications and customization options available to us without the need of root.
I have a couple of requests in regards to some applications if anyone would be generous enough to suggest anything.
1. Are there any applications to get free inapp purchases without root?
2. Anyway to stop ads in apps or while viewing youtube videos? I've tried a few adblockers but they dont seem to do much if anything at all.
3. I used this app on my iPhone called Mewseek which allowed you to download music on the fly and listen to it instantly. Is there any equivalent of that on Android?

Fire HD8 6th Generation 5.3.2 Update

Despite my attempts to block the OTA update, my fire now has 5.3.2. It definitely lags compared to the previous firmware version. Does anyone known if it can be downgraded via ABD without bricking?

I have read and was able to downgrade my 2015 Fire HD 7 from 5.3.2.0 to 5.3.1.0. Then I was able to install a CM Rom.
I also have the new HD 8 2016, but I am not sure if the downgrade will work.
Just bought a the HD 8 2016 since it is on sale (today) for $59 at Best Buy and THOUGHT I read it can be rooted, later learned it's only the older model that can be rooted. Really don't want an Android device that will remain unable to be rooted, so, might have to take it back even at that cheap price?
Would love to have a custom ROM on this tablet!

I bought it knowing that it can't be rooted at the moment. But I'm going to block updates with openDNS and cross my fingers for a future root method. Still a pretty good tablet for the money and the Play Store works too. However, I still love my cheap, year-old Fire 7" with CM 12.1 the most despite the screen resolution.
What steps are required to block updates with openDNS? Would like to try it on Fire 8, 6th gen.

Thanks. Looks like this could work on devices that don't leave home network.
Hopefully this Fire HD 8 tablet 6th generation - 2016 can be rooted in near future. Better to block the OTA updates. By the way, can someone pin-point the codename for this device ? That is similar to KFFOWI_Ford for 7'' Fire-2015.

mobile iron on a rooted oneplus 6t

So guys,my company is implementing mobileiron on our company devices giving us the possibility to use my personal devices as well.
I have a j6 samsung device from the company and mine op 6t but which is rooted.
Could i install mobile iron in a rooted devices knowing that my company has a well established security and restrictions certificates etc (i dont know if i'm saying all this right) lol
Can't say for sure. But usually companies that use those types of security, you cannot be rooted as it technically opens ups the phone, making it less secure in their eyes. Not speaking from experience, just from what I've seen of say Blackberry Android phones. Known for security and are incredibly locked down and still have never been rooted.
If I am erroneous in some of thinking on this subject, it's again because I'm only basing it off what I've seen elsewhere

I had mobile iron on my 6T with unlocked bootloader and root. It did work with limitations. It will show as a red light and that you do not meet security criteria, but you be able to use say company wifi, but not email. You need to talk to your IT department to see if they can assist. I re locked and un rooted myself recently as the benefits of root are not as great as they used to be.
Keep in mind that if you try to hide root/unlock from mobile iron you could be fired for it. Companies take security seriously in this day and age. Also the company apps are basically granting an administrator access level to your company so they can track your phone, know anything about any use of it, and wipe it at their pleasure. No way I would let a company get a toehold on my phone.
Only thing I can think of would be to try to hide root via Magisk. But yeah, I wouldn't screw around with security on a work device. My company would fire you immediately, not sure about yours.
My company would fire me if they know im trying to install mobile iron on rooted devices, lol.
Finally i used msm tool to back to stock and locked bootloader, i thought twice about root advantages and figured out that there is no great deals with root.
Many thanks for replies and suggestions

If I flash OREO custom ROM, will my Note 4 still represent as marshmallow in Play Store ?

Hi friends,
Background: I have DirecTV Streaming Service for my home because it offers 5.1 surround.
I HAD their mobile app on my Sprint Note 4 but before Sprint was purchased by T-Mo I was prompted to update the app in the Play Store.
When I tried a dialog popped up saying that my Android 6 Marshmallow phone was no longer compatible and that DirecTV Stream now required Android 7, Android 8 recommended.
If I successfully flash an OREO 8.1 ROM will the Play Store permit me to update my app or will they see that I am a Note 4 and deny me ?
And although YTTV/Hulu etc apps still work on Marshmallow they have poor audio for my home surround system .
No, it will only see the actual version of Android.
I actually flashed CRDROID Oreo 8.1 and was then able to download the latest apk from the playstore.
Installed and ran perfectly...
BUT, my WIFI connection repeatedly disconnected.
So did my bluetooth.
And my S-Pen was neutered.
Battery life abysmal.
Also, OREO was simply baffling to me.
Nothing like the Marshmallow that I am used to.
I wish that there was a way to "spoof" my android version and APPEAR as Nougat 7.
The Note 4 itself proved that it can run the app A-OK.
When Sprint died I just assumed that the latest Samsung offering would be better than my 7 year old phone.
So I bought a brand new A52 in August 21.
$450.00 wasted.
I hate it.
Stupid aspect-ratio results in black bands while streaming.
The display IS an inch wider (in landscape mode), 6.7 inches vs 5.7 inches.
BUT, considerably shorter (in landscape mode) which translates to LESS screen area.
As a result, typing is nearly impossible on the diminished keyboard.
No replaceable battery.
No S-Pen.
Overall, a big step BACKWARD !
<rant off>

Thanks pal...I have only flashed the OREO I mentioned so I am a very green newbie.
I have seen positive comments about Pixel so I will give it a shot.
Android 9 > 8. Any apps for 8 will work on 9 (or 10 and 11 and so on)
Hi Gang,
I thought that I'd update my results for those who are interested.
I eventually got comfortable flashing the Custom ROMs/GApps and tried many variants from 7(Nougat) up to Lineage 18.1(Android 11).
I tried a Pixel Experience package with included GApps that was very nice but on THIS particular ROM the DTVS(DirecTV Stream) APK would not install.
I suspect that the very comprehensive included GApps somehow betrayed my device's true identity.
All the other ROMs that I successfully flashed permitted the installation of the DTVS APK and it streamed flawlessy on each of them.
I do not understand why Marshmallow 6.0.1 is no longer considered sufficient.
Anyway, in the end I was really enjoying CRDroid 10 but something I had not considered made this entire exercise moot.
My home has terrible cellular reception and WIFI-Calling is indispensible for phone connnections.
What I had not realized was that WIFI-Calling is associated with each carrier's customization and cannot be incorporated into Custom ROMs as it is closely held proprietary information.
And so I have returned to the stock T-MO ROM I started out with.
Like anyone else I must be able to reliably contact emergency services for police, fire, medical, etc.
So my current solution is to leave my Mint Mobile SIM Card installed in the Note 4 while I am at home.
And if I wish to stream DTVS(via cellular) while I am out and about I must transfer the SIM to my Huawei Mate 10 which runs EMUI 12 (Android10).
It lacks WIFI Calling so it cannot be my home phone, BUT, it streams DTVS perfectly on a nice 16:9 display (no black bands on each side).
Swapping the card is a hassle but it's the best option I could think of.
I hope other users can somehow profit from my experience.
Weird. The app is not looking for the phone model; it's looking for the Android version.
Correct !
I can only assume that the model and droid version are conflated since the Note 4 was last updated in 2015 (marshmallow 6.0.1) and no further updates were/are authorized.
And so if the app sees Note 4 it can only be 6.0.1 max.
Just guessing here.
I spent alot of time studying build.prop mods to spoof my version but that never panned out.
I feel like I need to restate this: it doesn’t care if you have a note4 and limit based on that. It only limits based on version of Android.
Weird that PixelExperience didn’t work….

Trying to understand how this might work to make MY android version masquerede as a newer version that would permit the installation of the DTVS APK.
It appears that having rooted via Chainfire that I would need to unroot and then start over with Magisk.
Something about the stock boot.img being patched creating an obstacle to the installation.
Has anyone successfully installed Magisk while previously rooted ?
I tried and the app installs but two critical buttons are grayed out at the bottom of the app.
SU and Modules.
Anyone ???
