So to explain myself, on all my other phones if i was on a call and another call came there would be a ring to let me know there is another call and the screen would wake to show me who it is.
With the essential phone it does ring, but it does not wake the screen to show me who it is unless i press the power button to wake the screen.
Is this just happening to me? Is this a bug? Is this a setting? Is this the norm for the Essential? Just got the phone 3 days ago so any help would be greatly appreciated!

It never happened to me and I'm running the latest Oreo beta 2. Try going to your phone app settings then clear the data to see if that helps.

Is your phone rooted? or do you have any other phone app installed?
My best guess option for you is do the factory data reset but make sure to backup your phone before doing so.
Good luck!

I've been testing this a little now and I am sure that I am presing the "End call" button with my face and dropping calls more now than ever. Maybe it's more sensitive in the new ROM's? Or the light sensor is less sensitive?
Is there a way to get rid of this button or disable it?
I am running DC 2.07.2 with the new radio and PRL 60663.
I was getting that too with DC 2.06. From what I could figure it would be caused by hanging up on the person with the soft end button and not the hard key. That is what I could gather out of the few times that it happened to me.
when you make a call, pull your taskbar down.
thats how i test if its me or the ROM.
Haha, I tried that... but my face pushed "call in progress" and brought me back to the call screen.
Maybe a themer could remove the "end call" button from that screen?
I am really having an issue here. Can anyone suggest a way to disable the soft button?
Download "proximity sensor" from the market.
After you make or answer a call, press the home button to go back to the home screen

Well, we don't really have a proximity sensor. BUT you can download the proximity sensor app from the market and that pretty much locks the phone while its in a call. That would be the only thing I can think of.
It does FC when you end a call on the Hero - but it doesn't disable the app, it gets the job done.

I haven't had a problem with Proximity Sensor FC'ing in 2.1. Calls going through at all… Now, that's a problem!
Well, I tried it and it doesn't work at all. Nothing I do makes it go into lock mode.... is my light sensor broken? And could this be from the ROM?

Could very well be broken from the rom, I haven't tried it in a couple of months. I'll see if I can make it work tonight. I wonder if its open source.

map your end button to put the phone to sleep or home only.

If it's possible to re-map the hard button, isn't it possible to remap or break the soft one?
I'd rather keep my hard end button the way it is and disable or re-map the soft one.
Can anyone help? Would a donation move things along?

...or just push the home button
Sigh........
Well, I had been using Regaw's suggestion of holding down menu and bringing up the keyboard during calls. It was working perfectly as a screen "shield" until a few days ago when it started pushing the screen up instead of covering it. It's so weird, it just randomly started doing that, so I actually am more likely to press the end button with that method now....
I guess I am going to have to get that overbloated "Screen Suite" program to stop this crap, since removing or disabling the soft "End call" button on the call screen does not seem like something that anyone here is capable of doing...
Just updated my wife's Moment yesterday to the leaked 2.1. Her biggest complaint about the phone was that she constantly muted or hung up on other people with either her hair, earring or cheek. Once updated I tried a test called and I couldn't believe that this issue was actually fixed! The mute/end call button now looks just like the vanilla unlock and can't be that easily activated. Not sure if that can be ported over to Hero but it would definitely be great to have.
Maybe just stop mashing the phone hard against your face?
I've never had a problem with this.
^Well, if you've never had a problem, then I don't know why I'm even posting here! Should have asked you first, apparently.
I know plenty of people who have this problem. It sucks.

Weird, my issue actually got worse when I updated to 2.1 (damage).
(BTW, did you let your wife know that Sawawa has never had this issue? She might want to check with him next time before bothering you about these things.... )
So out of no where my phones standby button stopped working for me and the only way to use my phone is to plug it into a charger or call It. I can't really but a new phone yet because all of my money lately have been going to bills. I was wondering Is there anything I can do to fix it. Thanks for any replies

Thank you so much, that helps me out a lot.
Problem:
Phone in my pocket, volume down gets bumped into. The next 3 hours I won't get any notifications. This is incredibly annoying and frustrating.
How in the world can I disable volume down activating do not disturb while the screen is off?
First, the power button has to be bumped first, then the volume down button (various times). Too much bumping.
get a case

The power button does not need to be bumped.
While the phone is sleeping (screen off + short wait), press volume down either once or twice and it will go into do not disturb mode. I can also put on full volume while it's sleeping as well.
Tried what you said. Doesn't happpen to me. Using stock rom.

I restarted the phone and the issue hasn't come back yet. If/when it does I'll post again. Seems to be a weird bug

Issue has just came back. Restarting the phone makes it go away. Seems like we have found a solution! I'll keep a log of how often this happens here.

Which rom are you using? Is Double tap to Wake enabled? Are you using an app to lock the screen? Maybe that app is not locking the screen initially but displaying a black image for a short time before turning the display off.

Stock rom.
Ambient display is disabled.
No App. It did this stock out of the box
RMA would be a better option.
Problem has come back! a week delay this time
I would love an option to disable it on the phone entirely I never use it anyway and it occasionally gets turned on by mistake and I end up missing calls.
Found this in another forum - change DND priority settings to allow calls and messages from anyone. Should fix it!
I'm currently running cm14 on my phone.
Whenever I call someone or when someone calls me I'm able to pick the call up but I'm unable to cut the call as my screen does not wake up.
I know this problem is due to the proximity sensor, I Googled many articles and used many apps but this problem doesn't stop, I even tried some methods given on XDA threads but it's not solved.
If anyone has any type of solution to this problem PLEASE HELP
THANKS
Go to Setting ->Buttons -> Power Button -> Turn on End Call

Hi, does anyone know why this would happen? today morning when my G6 alarm rang, I just pressed some random buttons to mute it. Since then the phone is going into Auto Mute. I can turn up the volume but when I turn off the display and turn it back on, it mutes. I don't want to reset the phone

How you know that it's in mute? There is some sort of symbol in the status bar? Can you post a screen of it?

Yes, you can see in this screen shot. I even tried turning up the ringer volume to full and then turn off and on the screen and then I see the ringer is muted again View attachment 4140577

Tried also to enable and disable the not disturb option? The reset may be the only solution, it takes time but you can save almost everything with lgbackup.
Thanks Killua96 for trying to help me. I just found out the problem. I had installed an app noheadsup by Floatify which tried to activate Do not disturb mode every time I turned on the screen. But I didn't doubt the app because I had installed it one week ago, and it just started acting up today. Thanks for suggestions friend!
