Happy New Year everyone!
I am out of ideas, I hope you could help me. I tried to flash and install Lineage OS on my Moto X Style.
Unlocking bootloader went fine, I installed new TWRP 3.2.1.0 and so far it was OK. I flashed LineageOS nightly from 25 Dec with GApps but it won't boot. I have booting animation and from time to time there is very short vibration, just fraction of a second every 3-4 sec. I left the phone for an hour, still stuck on booting animation. I tried to wipe data/cache, tried several other builds from December- all have the same issue. I proceed to other ROMs, all behave in the same way, infinite bootloop. I went to find some solutions on XDA, but nothing seems to work.
I tried restore from backup: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/nougat-stock-rom-moto-x-style-xt1572-t3718460 Did not work, I still had booting animation form Lineage OS, even that it suppose to be stock rom.
I try below method to restore stock rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-return-to-stock-relock-bootloader-t3489110
With this firmware: https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto X Style/Stock/XT1572/ and android 7.0 But I constantly have error msg: "(bootloader) Preflash validation failed FAILED (remote failure)"
I tried to look for solutions but at this point it starts to getting quite too difficult to grasp what should I try next, I do not want to brick the phone for good.
Could you please give me any advice and suggestions? I have Lineage OS on three other devices, never had this type of issues before.
which firmware you were on when you unlocked bootloader and flashed Lineage? Marshmallow or Nougat?

Flash this TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74235571&postcount=917
Flash this LineageOS: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74980159&postcount=1054
It's a pretty stable build, you might able to get it to boot up.

Holly! It boots! Thanks a lot!
I tried a lot of ROMs, but all on 3.2.1 TWRP, maybe that was the problem. Anyway it seems to be fine now, I am very grateful for your help with it.
All the best!

It wasn't only the TWRP issue. From Marshmallow to Nougat was a major update for our device. Once upgraded to Nougat the data partition format is F2FS am not sure, but hope you get my point.
Developers had to compile ROMs based on this new updated Kernel, Modem and Vendor.
I have been using this unofficial builds for a week now and they are stable. No major bugs.
You can also flash the official Nougat firmware image over fastboot, in case you you wanna go back to Stock.
In case you want to try this old ROMs, you have to flash Marshmallow modem and then it will boot.

Hi folks, I've tired to get back into roms today after a few years absence. I've tried 3 roms on my 6P but ResurrectionRemix and Dirty Unicorns won't find any wifi. Cataclysm which I installed in between the two did. RR is also telling me 'theres an internal problem with your device'. I've wiped the normal things and even done a full format. Any ideas?!
Edit: just tired Bliss and that does work?! But I'm getting an error about a vendor image being out of date?

If you even tried reading op of rom threads, you would realise that you have an outdated vendor image. In order for wifi to work on latest roms and get rid of that message, flash latest vendor image ending with "x" and youll be fine. You can flash it in twrp
Thanks. I did flash MTC19X_vendor and I still get the message though?

I have done a bit of research, apparently the vendor image has to be up to date with the ROM but the problem is if I get the ROM dirty unicorn I could not find any vendor image for their ROM version 10.4 latest one. I don't understand whats happening with the system but this WiFi problem has recently occurred to many people.

Flash the Vendor.img for the July security update. Dirty Unicorns 10.4 uses this vendor file. I download the entire factory image each month from Google Nexus factory page and flash what I need. I'm running July DU on my Nexus 5X with no WiFi issues.

Hello,
Firstly, I want to thank the community for all of the wonderful information and work they have done. I truly appreciate it.
But, I was wondering if there are any issues going from an android 7.1 rom to a 6.0 rom. Because, I am currently running the MIUI 8 rom that is 6.0 and I love it, I have always been a fan of MIUI. But, I would like to try out nougat and see how some of those roms run.
I have looked quite a bit for any information on this that is specific to the oneplus 2, but I can't seem to find anything. I am totally willing to jump through a bunch of hoops in order to accomplish this goal, I just need to know what these hoops are.
So, if anyone could help me out with this I would really appreciate this.
Thank you for your time and keep up with the good work everyone
MIUI is based on H2OS. I recommend having OOS 3.5.6 firmware for nougat roms. Now I'm not quite sure what the process is for going back to OOS but someone should be able to guide you through it. Then its just as simple as wiping and flashing a nougat rom.

Well, when I install a new rom, I usually wipe everything but the internal data. So, from that perspective, does it matter what rom I had installed before I performed the wipe?

No but the firmware matters, aka which modem firmware 3.5.6 or 3.1.0
I'm not sure but I think the h2os modem firmware is different to the 3.5.6 but I could be wrong
Well, I decided to perform an experiment for everyone and instead of reverting to any other rom, I just wiped like I usually do and installed the Cosmic rom. Everything seems to be working

Good for you then. But I higly recommend OOS 3.5.8 firmware as it appears to have fixed network drops for a lot of people. Again I'm not really sure how the roms will handle these fixes but it shouldn't pose any issues.

Can anyone help on how to modify current TWRP to support encryption?
Nothing as of now. The support is dead.
Yesterday I tried rooting my phone by using almost every instance of magisk available on the web, but I either end up with a bootloop or Error 255.
There is no point installing twrp, you will only break your phone.
Only solution is never trust honor again in terms of development support.
SAME Issues.

Unfortunately, i'm regretting getting the H8P instead of the OP5. Kinda had a feeling this would happen but took a shot anyway.
Tried many versions of Magisk but all ends up in bootloop. Spent over 30 hours on the device, tinkering.
Best bet would be to flash Stock, lock bootloader and forget about SU . The only choice given how expensive the phone was to a common man when it released.
No more Honor or Huawei every again. For me or anyone who askes for suggestions.
I'm not that into android that i can jump in to help devs aswell. But i will try to stay active and support those who brick their device.
@anirudh & @shailendra1993
Sorry, but you seem both out of topic.
It seems to me latest official magisk is working on your device by flashing a patched ramdisk via fastboot.
Coming back to OP, the latest public TWRP available for your device seem to be there https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8-pro/how-to/restoring-dukfullotaromflasher-t3741223But they may not support encryption...

Thanks ! I get constant bootloops when I flash almost all versions of magisk on stock Oreo 8.0.0.323 . I'm now using AOSP from open krin . 8.1 . Not the most stable rom, but I love stock Android. Definably miss a few stock rom features though. It would help if you tell us the version of magisk flashed and also stock rom version.
And the installation method you followed for magisk was patching boot using magisk manager and flashing the image via fastboot right?

Hey,
I followed those same instructions before.
From v 15.4, we can directly extract our boot.img , patch it using magisk manager and flash it using fastboot.
And it works like a charm. With data encrypted.
Thanks for your inputs

I come from an Honor 8 completely turned inside out (root,twrp,xposed,gravity,substratum,v4a,titanium backup, kali linux and so so so on).
Can I hope to get almost half of them on my new Honor 8 Pro? I would stay on latest stock B189, but If I well understand there are problems with TWRP and TB because of encryption. What is the state of the art we can get on Nougat? Thanks a lot.

Flash one??? You want stock or custom?
Stock please.....
i'll try custom as well....
Assuming you have the XT1575, you can try here. This will bring you up to stock nougat with an OTA out there if you choose to take it.
Just a couple of caveats if you flash nougat: Once you do so it limits the availability of custom roms greatly. As far as I know this is the last available stock flashable images so if you take the OTA, flashing it again could cause issues as it is considered "downgrading". I personally wanted to root so I did not relock my bootloader and froze my phone taking the OTA so I could always flash the full image should anything go wrong.
Thanks..,. Yes I am talking about the XT1575. Can you also point me in the direction of maintaining my current Root status..... While upgrading to what you would consider the best current rooted ROM.
Thanks

I personally stick with rooted stock. Mileage varies person to person on custom so I just play it safe.
If you go stock rooted, make sure you pay attention when flashing the stock nougat and do the steps in the post that keeps your bootloader unlocked. After stock ROM is flashed, temp flash TWRP, do a backup, then TWRP again and flash root option of your choice. I personally use Magisk to root so apps pass the SafetyNet checks.
all's well went with ResurrectionRemix staying on 6.0 quite pleased - thanks for your help

RR is a good choice from what I've read. Glad all is well. Enjoy.
Hello again all!
So I've recently discovered the glory of GSI / Treble roms! Good stuff! But after much banter with Ressurection remix's 9.0 GSI rom, I have still yet to get it working, and wasn't sure if I'm just missing something.
So far, what I've tried is:
- Wiping everything (caches, system, data) as well as formatting my data partition
- then installing the rom. after a couple of routine-looking reboots, the system boots without gapps functioning great.
- quick settings states 'No SIM card', which is false
- reinstalled rom countless times
- restored to functioning rom, backed up EFS, reinstalled RRemix in the same fashion, restored EFS backup. No solve there.
And with that, I'm out of ideas and without much knowledge of GSI / Treble processes, I'm not even sure how to word searches for help. Any advice ya'll?
Hey man, let me know if you still haven’t gotten this resolved and are still looking to do so. After days of research and experimentation I finally created a process to reliably flash a fully functional RR 7.X rom. I can provide my boot.img and instructions if you need them.

Did you try an A only image? It should work as it doesn't touch the vendor image or CSC. At first I was trying AB images on my Note 9 and could never get signal. I found out that we are only supposed to use the A only images on that device and my problems were solved. I haven't tried anything on my Razer Phone 2 though as the stock ROM is pretty much exactly what I want. It's worth a try.
Need RR help.
