Hi all,
Nexus 6p on 8.1.0 here.
Baseband 3.85
Phone looses both WiFi and cellular for a second, regains cellular and reconnects to WiFi every minute or so.
Only happens with home WiFi.
So far tried:
- Changing WiFi bands from 2.4 to 5hz and both
- Fixating a specific unpopulated channel on both bands
- Granting a static IP to the device
- Resetting network settings
All other devices on the network are fine.
Any suggestions? It is driving me crazy

What happened:
I am using a new Nexus 4 in various buildings on a campus (specifically, the University of Washington). For simplicity, let's assume that there are just two buildings, Building A and Building B.
There is a strong WiFi signal within both buildings, and I can connect to the WiFi network in either one. When I walk between buildings, the signal drops outside, and the phone switches to 3G networking (as expected).
Once I'm inside the other building, however, the WiFi does not always automatically reconnect. Instead, the phone will often remain on 3G mode, despite being in the presence of a strong WiFi signal.
If I restart the phone, the phone will then reconnect to the WiFi signal. Unless I do this, however, the phone will remain in 3G mode indefinitely. This drains the battery and results in high data usage with my phone plan.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Connect to campus-wide WiFi.
2. Walk outside. WiFi connection will drop, and phone will switch to 3G.
3. Walk inside another building. Phone will remain in 3G mode, rather than switching back to WiFi, despite being in the presence of a strong WiFi signal.
4. Restart the phone. After rebooting, the phone will now connect to the WiFi network.
What you think the correct behavior should be:
The phone should automatically switch back to WiFi when in the presence of a suitable WiFi signal. A manual restart or manual reconnecting to the network should not be necessary.

Did this issue occur before you were on PA rom 3.5?
If it didn't then I think it could be the rom if it's not then it's the school's wifi. It happens to me when I'm on campus too and I found out it the school's WiFi network was getting hammered and the signal was disrupted. No clue how that any of that happened.

Hi, I have the same problem. Did anyone manage to solve it? I have my Nexus 4 since yestereday and it's not reconnecting to my home wifi. Previous phone HTC Incredible S didn't have this issue and since that phone my wifi settings wasn't changed. I have AirLink AP, no name router and wifi is encoded with WPA. But i don't have to restart the phone to reconnect. It's enough to turn wifi on the phone off and on in settings. But it's really annoying. Thanks for hints.
And please excuse wrong expressions, I'm from Czech republic
Edit: I have stock rom, JB 4.2.2
Hi y'all!
My Focus suddenly stopped connecting to my WiFi network. Instead, when searching for a WiFi network, most of the time I can only find one network ("Home") while sometimes other networks are found, sometimes none at all... This even happens when I am more or less right next to the router. But even in other rooms "Home's" signal should not be the strongest and it is not on the same channel as my network (11 vs 12).
I already did a hard reset to no avail.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Cheers,
Ben
This is more a curiosity than anything else, but I've noticed that location accuracy is improved when wifi is toggled on in Android, even if you are not connected to a wifi network. I have an android service that collects location information on an interval using LocationManager with the LocationListener provider set to NETWORK_PROVIDER.
When the wifi radio is activated on my test device but not connected to any wifi network, the accuracy is ~ 30 - 70 meters. This is relying on the cell network only, having verified that the device is not auto-connecting to some available wifi network. However, as soon as I toggle the wifi off the accuracy drops to about 1000 meters. Does anyone have any idea why that is even though the network being used is the same? I've heard that you have access to some location database that improves accuracy when you are on a wifi network, but I'm not on any wifi network in this scenario. Is the FusedLocationAPI any better?
Have a look at this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_positioning_system
You don't need to be on the network at all, just being in range to get the SSID and BSSID is good enough.

But just to confirm, the device needs to have the wifi radio enabled (even if connected via the cell radio) in order to use this info?
Ideally yes but newer versions of Android collect location data even when you're WiFi radio is off. If you look in your advanced WiFi settings you'll probably see an option for scanning networks when WiFi is off. I believe this is an opt out setting by default.

You don't have to be connected, you just need the mac address of the wifi router which is stored in the online wifi db.
But you still have to be online via cell radio in order to be able to access the db

Hi ALL,
I noticed that my My Galaxy S7 Edge's Wifi constantly keeps turning off and on for some reason! does anyone else experience this on their phone?
Thank you.
Is their any known wifi issues on Galaxy S6 Edge (international variant)?
Can anyone help.
Could you be more specific? Do you have WiFi turned on while your screen is off? Maybe post your advanced WiFi settings so we can see if there is anything off

The following things have generally helped:
- Set DIFFERENT SSIDs for 2.4 and 5GHz bands. I have found that most devices and routers do a terrible job dynamically switching between the networks if each as the same SSID - I think the chipset recognizes the SSID and constantly jumps from one band to the other depending on which had the strongest signal.
- Disable the bluetooth and wifi SCANNING feature (not bluetooth itself as one of the prior posters cited). This setting is found in "locations" and allows your phone to scan for recognized wifi and bluetooth networks even when wifi or bluetooth is turned off to pinpoint its location. Given that bluetooth only has about a 50 ft range, its puzzling why the bluetooth scanning is even an option
- Set the channel width in the router to 20 MHz or 40MHz. Some products can't recognize the 80MHz channel widths (my old S5 couldn't recognize my travel router if I had it set to 80MHz. Note that this may slow down your connection.
- Disable Smart Network Switch (in Wifi Advanced settings) or other similar setting that dynamically switches between Wifi and mobile data depending on network access
- Get 802.11ac-capable router. This may be less of an issue now, but for a couple years after the ac standard came out, a lot of ac clients would have issues with legacy non-ac routers. Obviously not ideal.
I don't have problem with my S6 Edge connecting to my home wifi.
I tried to disable some setting as Joku suggested and it minimized the wifi connection drops. I noticed that my S7E connected most on my 2.4GHz

same problem with my S7 Edge
Having this problem only with certain routers (other phone models stay connected just fine). The router only has 2.4 GHz, and bluetooth is off, scanning is off, smart switch is off.
Router is a Verizon FIOS Router Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I.
US T-Mobile GS7e, on latest firmware.
What are some particulars why my G3 is suddenly getting intermittent wifi at a certain range when it's been in the same room for years and never had an issue? It was working fine before and now it cannot sustain wifi connection despite "showing" an initial max/good signal, especially when it starts initiating such as loading a video on YouTube. However, it works fine when in close range to the router which makes it confusing if it's the WiFi antenna hardware already or some sort of new interference.
tl;dr
1. Works fine when near the router. No connection loses. WiFi signal in my room is good/excellent regardless.
2. WiFi SSIDs show up, then remains SAVED, the says no internet, then randomly connects and works.
3. Connection drops the moment I open a YouTube video, load an app, etc. basically when there is loading involved.
4. Phone has been in my room for years so the range is good and consistent.
5. Other devices can see the WiFi connection just fine, it is just this phone recently that showed a problem suddenly. WiFi signal at good/excellent for every other device.
6. There are other WiFi SSIDs of neighbors but only around 3 or so and they've existed for a while already. We are also in the appropriate channel away from theirs via WiFi Analyzer.
7. The router signal strength is able to reach even up to the house beside ours in the garden.
What I tried:
1. Reset network settings via Backup and Restore.
2. Changed ROM.
3. Removed Blokada / VPN. Private VPN is off.
4. Turned on Airplane mode, then turned on WiFi.
5. Channel WiFi channel, router Mhz, connected to 5 Ghz.
6. Removed Bluetooth devices in the area, Bluetooth toggle at off.
7. Went near the router to connect, it's sustained, then walked over to the room, connection drops. Other devices sustain it.
I understand the phone is showing its years but curious what could be possible reasons for this new issue to appear.
