apt-X bluetooth audio?

Does anyone know if the Nexus 4 supports the Apt-X codec for high quality audio to bluetooth headphones? I would presume no, but hope I'm wrong

Also looking for the same info, can't seem to find a full specs sheet anywhere.

It does according to a Chinese website I have found!
I cannot paste here the link because I am a new user, but google: "nexus 4" + "Bluetooth 4.0 支援 aptx"
支援 means supports.
Let's cross fingers for a confirmation from a more reliable source.

Unfortunately, the Nexus 4 does not have aptX according to CSR. Below is an email from CSR. This is really disappointing to me, everything about the Nexus 4 is great to me except this.
Is there a way we can hack-in aptX support? Is it just software? I would guess there is nothing special hardware wise. Probably just some proprietary code added in to the Bluetooth stack. Anyone have any info or Galaxy S3/Note II sources that might give us some hints?

This is the kind of $hit that kills me with Android, ESPECIALLY a Nexus piece of kit. I would have already bought the Nexus 7 if it had apt-x built-in, and now I'm on the fence with the Nexus 4 because it lacks apt-x... Hopefully someone devises a way to side-load it somehow. Proprietary bluetooth codec? C'mon...

I'm in the same boat. If this phone doesn't have apt-x, i unfortunatly won't buy it
2 days since it has been released, any word on this? Must be a few guys here already have them, i hope some of them have an apt-x BT headset, Sennheiser, or something.

The 2 sources saying it's a[tx ready are not reliable,it looks like plain copy/paste specs for smartphones.
No LG smartphone has aptx till date (at least officially)
I heard the BT audio is great with G2 on non-aptx devices but it's not the case with aptx receivers or earphones.
aptx is a BT codec it should be active by default on your smartphone,it's not an app that can add it but it's a driver that works with the BT chip

There's aptx logo in the box, so it must be compatible.

On my LG G2 D802 box, there is apt X logo. It should be compatible.

I sent an E-mail to LG service to be sure, before buying a new bluetooth headseat which use aptx, that my LG G2 (D802) is aptx compatible as is it written on the box.
I received the answer (the next day, great after sale service) and, yes it is.

On their web page there is an aptX compatibility link, where, for Motorola Phones we can see listed Moto G and Moto X, but the pictures are from the first generation phones.
For "aptX HD" I found only the latest flagship LG phones and Luna.
Is there a way to include support for aptX in our phones?

I don't believe there is. Sometimes I'm amazed at some of the simple and cheap things they left off these phones. At the manufacturer's level we're talking pennies on some things.

I have asked Qualcomm about the Moto G4 Plus and Moto X Pure (2015) and they where nice to answer this:
"Hi, yes Moto phones should support aptX, although we haven’t done any testing on these devices."
Since Qualcomm bought CSR in 2014, I don't see any development in that direction.
LE: New email from Qualcomm support:
"We do internal IOP testing on customer products but they have not provided us with Moto devices sorry."
Makes sense, only the real Moto cared to send their devices for testing. The following owners of the Moto brand (Google and Lenovo) are not interested in quality testing as much.

Capturing the bluetooth communication between phone and some aptX capable headphones and, after that, Wireshark that file, resulted in the information that Moto G4 is aptX capable!

That mod seems to have worked on my G4 Plus. Now I just need a Bluetooth sink device (speakers headphones) capable of aptX HD, to verify.

Did you have a chance to verify if aptX is working after applying the fix?

AptX it works. Checked it with a few soundbars at BestBuy. Now, the AptX HD is a different story since there is only one type of LG headphones that supports it, nothing else on market. So I couldn't find a pair to test it.

HD, not sure. Regular apt x, yes. Samsung has been using apt x since the s3 if I remember correctly.

I have been wondering the same thing. I e-mailed [email protected] and didn't get any response, however, I noticed today that they have updated their website to list the Galaxy S8 and S8+. Unfortunately, while they are listed under aptX devices, they are not listed under aptX-HD devices.

Click aptX Solutions-->aptX, then scroll down and select "See all products": the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are both listed.
Click aptX Solutions-->aptX HD, then scroll down and select "See all products": no Galaxy phone is listed.
This is disappointing since the chipset used by the S8 supports aptX HD. I know Samsung uses their own high-quality proprietary codec (they call it Hi-Fi) so that may be their justification for not implementing the new codec, however, that does not help in the likely scenario where the sink device does not support Samsung's codec but does support aptX HD.

Can you output music to one device using the APT X codec while also sending music to an older A2DP device without issues? I am worried that the higher quality APTX device will dumb down to match A2DP with dual streaming. Anyone know if that is the case or not?
My car's bluetooth does not support APT X unfortunately and the audio quality isn't very good. Was hoping to buy a standalone APT X bluetooth receiver and stick it in my car somewhere connecting to my car with the AUX cable, and still retain vehicle controls for next/previous track. Figured I would dual stream to my car (with the volume off/low) and to my APTx receiver through aux to accomplish this. Also can both devices automatically pair and go into dual audio mode?

As the OnePlus 5 has Bluetooth 5.0, is it possible to connect two Bluetooth devices at the same time like on the Galaxy S8?

The dual pairing that Samsung showcased is actually something of their own creation, it's not a feature of Bluetooth 5.0 itself.
Also, It should be noted that the increased speed and range claims of Bluetooth 5.0 apply only to Bluetooth low energy. So you're going to see a difference for some smartwatches and fitness trackers, but the majority, if not all, bluetooth speakers and headsets/headphones will have about the same performance as they did on the previous version of Bluetooth.

Once the OP5 gets Android O you will be able to do this.

But it's only a software feature, right? So maybe someone will develop a magisk module or something for this?

2 reasons. OnePlus confirmed it a while ago. Second. You already have it in the Snapdragon 835 hardware. It just needs to be turned on via a software update.

So we have Oreo now, do we need BT5 speakers as well? Or should this work with regular BT devices

Actually, the option is there now in the Oreo Open Beta 1. But I haven't tested it myself (I'm back on Nougat anyways now). But this option is somewhere in the developer options. There you can choose stereo output. It's just like that: On Android 7, max BT version has been 4.2 on every phone. Samsung implemented it into their devices on their own nevertheless. With Oreo, the capable devices will be updated to BT 5.0 and with BT 5.0, this feature automatically comes to the devices. So, you can either try the OB 1, or just wait till the official Oreo update in Q1 2018.

Just connect/ pair them. You didn't mention which devices you want to pair? I have paired my Smartwatch and car hands free or several headset / conferencing speakers.

My Smartwatch and Headset or headset are paired at the same time

It connects to two BT speakers but doesn't play music together on both.

i have a samsung note 8... it will pair and play 2 amps at a time ... i believe it has BT 4.2 so far this is the only device that will play 2 devices at the same time.. i wish bluetooth would play 3 ,,,,4,,,or 5 devices at once... i heard 5.0x2 would but i,m not sure ... i,m working on that info now
