[Bug] Official Oreo Quick Settings Panel - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
After Oreo update, I noticed the following in the quick settings: before the update when clicking once for example on the WiFi toggle, it opened a secondary panel always inside the same place; now it just turns off/on the WiFi. This issue is not related to Android Oreo itself because Google Pixel phones work well. It's OxygenOS-related.
It seems we are loosing functionalities now...

You mean instead of showing you available networks now it switches the WiFi on/off?

I think this is what he meant because I have this behavior too. It's switching features on or off instead of showing additional options as it was on Nougat. I don't know if this is OOS "feature" or not.

It's there in most custom ROMs, most likely a feature. I've been waiting for it in an OOTB ROM.

I must say, I do definitely miss this. I have a wifi repeater in my house and have to often quickly change the wifi network. Sure, it adds a couple of extra seconds - not the end of the world. But, it's the same for WIFI and Bluetooth ( I use lots of Bluetooth devices too). I hope this gets added back in a future update.

Before it was single press in the fully open quick settings to change your wifi network without launching into the Settings UI. Now, it toggles if you press with it semi-open and fully open, and long-press opens the UI. Personally, I preferred it the way before, but I'm sure this is entirely subjective.
That's not the most annoying thing anyway, the folder layout on the stock launcher I just can't get used to. (I know that's been present for a while now, but I refrained from updating the launcher until this update forced it)

10 things that I hate about Gingerbread!

I really wonder why there is none of such thread here!
Gingerbread unfortunately brought only bad things to my Nexus. I already forgot why I was so crazy about installing it.
What feature did it introduce again?
Okay the response is much better and everything seems faster...but with lots of bugs?
That screen off animation? Seriously?
Things that I hate now:
- Battery Time: this is bad, can't even run half a day with lot of usage, b
efore I could listen to mp3's one day, ie. more than 4 hours without any problems...now
- Camera: either Cam or Video, the application crashes after I take a photo or video and then I can not connect to it anymore
- Gallery: often crashes, especially if you have an online photo account connected
- unlock screen: I use a pattern, often there is no overlay of what pattern I drag, still the screen can be unlocked
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab
- 3G and Wifi: if you are connected to wifi more than 15 minutes and then disconnect from it you do not get any 3G, you have to go to airplane mode and back, this bug appeared ages ago and was fixed, now back again...tells you a lot about their merging control, ie. sucks
- notification led: you know...
- apps: there are a lot of apps running even though I never used them since restart (see it in a task killer app)
- gps: on a random bases it tries to lock even though no app that uses gps is running
- phone reboot: it even rebooted without any notice two times since I installed it
(- Contacts: I still can't enter a simple thing like a birthday on an expensive phone like this)
MOD EDIT: Borderline trolling removed. If you switch OSes, that's your own choice. No one here is stopping you.
Got any troubles? Tell here.

4. Blank keyboard- fixed by switching to another keyboard and back again, or a reset
5. Blank Launcher- fixed with reset
6. In the stock SMS app a long press>delete conversation doesn't always delete the selected conversation; sometimes you have to do it twice.
As far as battery goes, my display is still the thing that takes up the most battery (which is normal) but I had been experiencing severe declines in battery life. Does the switch to 32-bit color require more processing power and therefore battery?
I *#*#4636#*#*>phone information and saw it was set to WCDMA preferred. I remember playing with the option when froyo came out but didn't remember what it was set to (Maybe Gingerbread reset the option...?). I changed it to GSM PRL (Auto), and have experienced increases in battery life, as my phone isn't hunting for 3G all the time- it uses a service provided list of tower locations.
The LED REALLY bugs me.
Hate about Gingerbread
No trackball wake
Juice Defender Doesn't work (but Green Power does - works well but with less flexibility than JD)
Short battery life
Useless keyboard selection gimmicks
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab

Well, glad to know mine isn't the only one that does this!!
On Froyo I would wake up in the morning to freshly updated apps that had updated automatically over night.
I have not had this happen a single time on Gingerbread, and nearly every time I go in to the market there are updates waiting.
What is the point of the automatic update feature when it doesn't work???

auto update never worked for me, even in froyo.
-Battery with CM7 roms
-Trackball wake blocked in non-CM7 roms
-More difficult to mod themes like statusbar (before we just had to change a png and now we have to edit a bunch of files)
So in summary GB roms are still not stable and complete, they have either TB wake missing or poor battery life too
My annoying issues?
- 2 second mic mute after I answer a call
- stock launcher choking after a while
Less annoying ones:
- Market does not automatically update apps
- gps activations without an apparent reason
My annoyances
In no particular order:
The cursor select triangle not lining up with the cursor
Launcher unresponsive/vanishing
Lockscreen pattern not showing (as in the OP)
Phone randomly stays awake at night
GPS turns itself off
Not able to view an apps wakelock any more
USB mount screen shows 'turn off' even when it isn't mounted (UK issue)
USB debugging icon doesn't appear, or doesn't turn off depending on how you enabled it
Exchange push is just crap now, I swear it's getting worse by the day

While I'm not a big Gingerbread lover at all, here are answers to some of the points:
Battery time is fine, at least in freshly installed ROMs it far exceeds what Froyo mastered.
Camera is your own problem - you didn't update radio, or your update went bad.
Gallery never crashed - again, your own problem (you get the feeling now, right?).
3G and WiFi - again, your own problem. No bug.
Apps - and why do you care? Isn't the "DO NOT USE TASK KILLER" thread clear enough? 150-200MB free RAM aren't self-explanatory?
Due to your comments, you might really consider switching to Apple. It would be beneficial both for you and for this forum.
Or you could back up user data, wipe, install new radio and bootloader, load fresh Gingerbread ROM (NOT CM7 or CM7-based), and have most of your points addressed.
Now, having said that, if you want a much better overall feel - install Froyo-based Desire port, or if you don't have any use for Hotspot - DesireHD port. I hate using barebone Android after some experience with it.
have you guys heard about Cyanogenmod ROM? I am using CM7 RC4 and I have no problems that anyone mentioned in this thread....
Maybe you haven't heard that your experience not necessarily represents anything.
For me (and another 2 guys that asked me to reinstall other ROM on their Nexus Ones), CM7 was a huge, awful pile of bugs. Starting with the ill-famous "wonk".
Plus, again, after having some SenseUI I don't really want to go back to plain Android, and wouldn't suggest it to anyone looking for a good overall experience.
I have an occasional problem with the application tray where it stutters, flashes and doesn't scroll properly. It seems to happen only after exiting certain apps, and needs the launcher to be force closed to fix.

Just lost all credibility in my book...
I would suggest the OP decides what features he/she wants in a ROM and then try a few different ones out. There are plenty to cater to all tastes and i'm sure they'll be able to find one that works well for them.
1. exchange sync stops syncing without any reason. can't start a manual sync. only reboot of the phone helps for a short period of time. needs a fix very urgently.
2. TINY TINY notification icons...the worst idea google had for the GB update. i cannot see the difference between the gmail and exchange mail icon on normal usage in example.
There are some more points which i also mentioned in my blog about gingerbread for nexus one:
http://smartphoneblogging.com/2011/03/review-android-2-3-3-gingerbread-for-nexus-one/
Thread Cleaned
Let's play nicely in here and keep this on-topic. This is not the place to discuss other operating systems. This is about issues pertaining to the OTA Gingerbread updates.
Thanks,
Your loving moderator.
One bug and one annoying change:
- The instability of the launchers. I hope they address this.
- The inaccessible GPS toggle. Tasker can't access it and neither can the toggle widgets. Why did they change this?
my mms sometimes does not send if i configure 2 APNs (one for mobile data and one for mms), while i disable the one for mobile data...
it's working fine on Froyo and CM6 before

QFT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Auto brightness adjustment no longer fades, now it just jump straight to the target brightness which is quite abrupt visually.
And of course... trackball wake is gone.
I concur with these points:
- Battery Time: this is bad, can't even run half a day
- Gallery: often crashes, especially if you have an online photo account connected
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab
- GPS: on a random bases it tries to lock even though no app that uses gps is running
- Creating shortcuts on desktop: sometimes you can't drag/drop icons to the desktop or to a different spot on the desktop.
- The cursor select triangle not lining up with the cursor
- Auto brightness adjustment no longer fades, now it just jump straight to full bright or full dim.
As for the people suggesting we update the radio and try different roms, while that is primarily what this board is about, it doesn't "solve" anything. This is a stock Nexus One with official everything. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work.

keeping the radio you dont have off

I found a program called Nobars in the market. What it does is monitor cell reception and turn the radio off when you have no signal. There is an option to keep WiFi active when it puts it into airplane mode.
I have confirmed that it works as it should by taking it out of airplane mode several times. Since installing it cell usage of the battery has not budged.
I know this can be done manually but this is an automatic option that constantly monitors.
Nice find

Does this need root?
Cause it doesnt seem to work on mine (note rooted yet)
I dont see any notification as the settings suggest..
Its not working for me neither.
Mine is unrooted too.
Do we need root?
mine is rooted and it doesnt work : still have the "veille gsm" process sucking battery (A500 french)
I am rooted, it doesn't work for me either.
Does Airplane Mode Work?
Has anyone seen any positive effect of keeping the tablet in airplane mode and just turning WiFi on/off as you need it?
This app does not need root. While it was working great for me initially it now seems to have stopped working. I am going to play with it a little today.
And I definitely see a difference running in airplane mode.
There is another app I run on my droid x that shuts down everything at night. Going to see if that works on Honeycomb.
for anyone that it is not working for, you can turn on airplane mode manually and then re-enable wifi

You can do this, but have not seen any adjustments to the battery use at all. It still keeps draining for the cell standby.

Airplane mode does not fix the Cell Standby drain.
I have seen this topic discussed in the Androidtablets forum under the Acer specific thread. (I still can't post links but it's exhaustively been discussed in that thread).
Unfortunately, the a500 was designed exactly the same as the a501 (which will be the 3G enabled Acer tablet eventually).
The bottom line is, this probably won't ever be fixed. Renaming phone.apk and telephonyProvider.apk does fix the issue - but it also bricks your tablet.
For my Droid X, I use a widget called "Dazzle!" which gives me control over the Cell Radio - even on my Droid, I can disable Cell and not have a Cell Standby drain. Unfortunately, this widget does not appear in the market for the Acer...
I think we've gotta wait for a crafty developer for a workaround, or wait for some custom ROM's... Acer doesn't seem to have any plans for a software update for this.

All we need is a kernel that disables the ril. DJ_Steve did it for the Streak 7.
I have a help-ticket out at Acer about this issues, which has already surpassed Level 2 Tech support. It's been a while since my last response (which told me to send the unit in for faulty parts, haha). We'll see what Level 3 has to say. So far they've only sent form-letters back.
I have a feeling our developer community will have this issue solved well before acer even acknowledges it.

Which leaves us users who don't want to go the mod/root route in deep doo doo.
I completely agree.
I finally decided not to root my Droid X for the gingerbread update. But the tablet, I have to admit, I might have to actually Root to fix the issues.
I hope Acer creates a situation where Rooting isn't necessary. But, it looks doubtful. I'd rather root and gain 4+ hours of battery, than not root and gain nothing.

How is your battery life before and after? And, renaming them does nothing unless you reset the Iconia.
What I don't understand is just what kind of reset does this. There's a lot of chatter here but to me a hard reset always meant a complete wipe of the device back to factory default state. Apparently even a "soft reset", i.e., just rebooting will also bork the Iconia so just be careful.
Am I on to something here?
Hi guys, I am a noob here so please dun flame me
I actually installed minimalist text onto my A500. I tried to customize my widget,
and when I went into the part where I can customize the activity of clicking my widget, I discovered that the list consist of mobile network settings (It actually consist of the full list of mobile networking settings)
Out of curiosity, I selected the mobile data network setting as my widgets default action. When I went into the setting, the "Data Enabled: Enable data access over Mobile Network" is actually being checked. I had unchecked it, and now my "cell standby" in my battery use has stopped.
Maybe I got it wrong or its just coincidence, but I thought maybe someone else can try it and see whether is it really workable?
I am keeping a look out on the battery statistics; hopefully it really works.

Wow! I just went into my Beautiful Weather settings and under the "Advanced Panel" you can specify an action for clicking on the time (or weather). When this is done, it provides a large list of action - this list, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't show up anywhere.
Anyway, Mobile Data was checked (yes or on) so I cleared the list (resulting in mobile data being UNCHECKED) and rebooted. Mobile data remained unchecked so I'll watch for a while and report results later.

Yeah the list didnt show up anywhere unless we went to customise widget setups like what we did. Lets see how things goes!
And it seems as though the mobile network settings etc is hidden due to the fact that our A500 is wifi only?

How do I prevent Chromecast from stalling music when my Note 3's screen turns off?

It's been very bothersome. I did look on the web and found this thread about it, but there hasn't been an all-encompassing answer yet.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...lay-music-stopping-when-screen-turns-off.html
I don't appear to be running into this issue. Used Note 3 to start a freebie song on Google Music to play on Chromecast and it continues to play when Note 3 screen times out or when I hit the power button manually. If you've rooted/modified your Note 3 then you probably want to reflash back to stock to rule out any issues that were introduced.
This might be a really pointless suggestion, but as I don't use any of those I'll take a shot in the dark:
Does this setup use WiFi? If so, is WiFi set to disable during sleep?
Bump bump
Anyone a clue? (Evident causes are already ruled out). Regpon wifi KeepAlive app is a solution but it pretty much drains the battery.
Ha!! Just installed a new MK2 firmware ROM (Polish). Runs like a charm now. No issues.
EDIT: forget it. Worked the first time . A bit later .... crap, crap, crap....

Check under Wi-Fi -> Menu -> Advanced if you have "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" set to Always. That (and the resulting Note 3 behavior and power consumption) might also be heavily influence by some of the power-saving / special broadcasting done in your WiFi router/AP.

Interesting, power-saving option in my router. What kind of parameters are you thinking about.
But do you have it working? Take a look at this forum thread http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...0-google-chromecast-note-3-disconnecting.html . This is a pain in the ass for a lot of users.

I have no Chromecast yet, so I can not test that, but when those WiFi settings are set badly you either don't go to full sleep with the phone (and power consumption is large) or you go without the correct wake-up wifi stuff and then you miss radio packets.

Let's assume for simplicity that I literally tried everything on the Note when it comes to tweaking the WiFi setting (there's even a hidden settings menu, accessible by dialing *#0011#, in which you can set the WiFi Power saving off. That didn't work either).
So I know, theoretically you can speculate a lot but it won't help. There's something wrong with the Note or the play music app.
Sometimes the Play Music app force closes with a IllegalArgumentException, saying that a messagestream with namespace Ramp is already registered (that is definitely related to the chromecast API) . It happened a few times (very rarely though) when waking the device up when casting music via Chromecast.
But what was that about the Wifi router? What kind of parameters did you have in mind?
Same issue. All the settings on my phone are fine. Any other Chromecast supported app works regardless of my screen being on or off. WiFi on during sleep. Router configured properly... If I run Google Play Music from my desktop, and stream to my Chromecast I can play entire albums without a problem. On the phone, I can not. This is definitely a Note 3 problem.

FreeMy experience with Nougat!

EDIT: (!) WiFi and mobile network periodically die!?! ... Oh dear .... AND poor Wifi reception!! Keeps disconnecting me.
Performance; Same as before, if not better.
Camera; New manual settings (shutter speed, focus etc) are awesome
Xloud; definitely makes the audio louder
Battery; remains to be seen
Multitasking; it's works and is cool, can be a bit glitchy
Other thoughts;
- I don't like how you don't have direct access in quick settings to enable / disable wifi or mobile data. You have to go through a second menu to access the toggle switch.
- I don't like that there is no built in night mode
- I wish there wasn't a constant data saver icon
+ I like that there is a move apps option in the transfer to SD card section.
+ More free storage !!
+ VoLTE works (for me at least)
+ Redesigned system apps look good
+ Sliding down the notification shade is no longer difficult (due to disabled animations) in stamina mode
+ May security patch

My battery life is way better than before. I sometimes don't even charge it overnight when I didn't use my phone a lot (in other words: stand by time significantly improved for me). Average cycle indicated by gsam is 1d10h .
XLoud is good to have, although I think it makes the sound quality worse and the lowest volume level way too loud.
About night mode, I think it is built-in but just hidden. In other words, I think you need to use an app just to access the settings, but the actual implementation is built in.
On the subject of wifi quick settings: I works in two steps now. First a small bar is drawn, in which you can toggle, then the full quick settings which give access to the more complex wifi menu and other quick settings. I'm not really a fan either, but I guess that'll change once I trained myself to use the small bar for quick toggling.

Oh thanks. Didn't realise you could toggle WiFi in the small bar. Does your phone randomly completely freeze after Nougat and even holding the power button does nothing?

Nope, no freezes on my F3111 running ....127
June security patch? 33.3.A.0.131 has the May security patch. Where did you get june from?
Mine has the May patch, as for the night mode, I think there are apps on the playstore that can enable it.
I've noticed that Swiftkey now cannot even be disabled and Bravia engine is gone, the setting is now called Image Enhancement. They gave us xLoud but took away Bravia Engine.
What is Sony thinking by replacing all their good apps with commercial versions.

[ROM] Lineage 13.0, Idol 3 4.7" variants [unofficial] The Stayboogy Way

first and foremost, special thanks to alecbl for his initial device tree and kernel source. this build would not be possible without his kernel work.
This is LineageOS 13.0 for the Alcatel Idol 3 4.7" variants
as always, full device, vendor, and kernel trees available at github:
https://github.com/stayboogy/stayboogy_lineage13_idol347
all changes in detail: https://github.com/stayboogy/stayboogy_lineage13_idol347/commits/master
This build is not the same as alecbl's, mine has some various changes to make it a more proper build for this specific device.
Updates will be coming as time progresses and new features are added.
FEATURES:
tap2wake & tap2sleep
double press power button opens camera
triple press power gives brightness boost
call recording available
lineage.yahoo.weather provider now installed by default
notepad included by default
typical apps and functionality of CM / Lineage roms
SPECIAL NOTES
1) wrist/tilt sensor (accelerometer) is used for the missing motion sensor for doze settings
2) speech to text / voice typing requires the Google app and for microphone permissions to be activated in settings/apps/Google/permissions then it will work correctly
3) smart lock settings work and persist over reboots--you must have the play store updated, play store services updated, the Google app installed, and Maps installed for all settings to work in smart lock settings.
4) flip cover has not been activated in the device tree yet--if people want it, post and if enough want it i'll add it back
5) battery light pulse option is no longer available, battery light itself when plugged in is active; notification light pulses by default, it's speed can no longer be edited because it doesn't work correctly--this was an executive decision because i don't like options that don't work correctly, these will not be added back, versions 1.1 and higher are incompatible with 1.0 framework so don't try to replace.
6) selinux is enforcing

Hi stayboogy - looking forward to trying this out
Great to see a new dev picking up this device, looking forward to test your work!
sorry last build had an error, new link will be up later tonight
link is live now.
post anything i might have missed. so far i think it is fairly polished
@stayboogy - I'm Testing it now - No root access for apps ? only adb option.

not missing, that's how modern security works and should be.
install superuser from recovery, that's standard mode of operation for everything after kk.
@stayboogy , Will you build lineage os 14.1??
A few issues I found on my day using this rom, I will provide logs on monday if you need, I'm out for the weekend and don't have a pc right now.
-Sometimes the power button instead of locking the device it boosts the screen brightness to max for a few seconds.
-I still find the smartlock issue with bluetooth devices, I do have google app and maps installed
-WiFi speed seems lower than on other devices connected to the same network, but since I'm not on my own house it might be a network issue, will confirm this when I get back home.

1) you're double pressing the power button then, and you have the "double tap power to open camera" option off in settings/buttons/
--either stop double pressing the power button which is what boosts brightness
--or turn on double press for camera option to turn off brightness boost
--or stop double pressing your power button
--pressing once will NEVER EVER produce brightness boost--i've been using the rom since before it was released so i'm sure of this
--your power button may be worn and more susceptible to register a double press when it wasn't
2) smart lock works for me in every option--make sure you're not using some crappy third-party lockscreen app or lockscreen security app that could be interfering with this.
--also there is a slight bug where bluetooth devices that are paired are not remembered upon a power cycle--i'm working on this as i type
3) this must be where you are--i have no issues whatsoever regarding wifi or networks period. of course i have 1GB/min speeds on bad days, and 2GB/min speeds on good days so idk
Thanks for Sharing, and this is the correct way for people to voice their finds and opinions, so thank you for that

It does not have it by default but retains the option to enable it. I have enabled it. The day cyanogen/lineage starts needing to be rooted is the day I start building some other rom.

you're arguing about nothing--engineering builds (ie. lineage_idol347-eng) are the only build that will have su enabled for apps and adb by default
userdebug builds and user builds do not have this enabled by default--only adb root access is made available standard by the system in developer settings.
again, the freaking su is NOT MISSING. I chose to leave the system as it is, because that's how it's supposed to be, and your problems are just stupid childish whining because you don't how current android works.
if you want root, use superuser from recovery which again is standard operating procedure for everything after KitKat. why you can't get this through your thick ****ing skull is beyond me. you obviously are not a developer and have no business making any claims as to what is standard or what is the right way for a rom to work when you aren't building any and have no experience or even basic knowledge of how the build system works or the hundreds of security revisions that have been introduced since kk that make non-systemless rooting a vulnerability...

Yeah, it's most likely my button being worn out, because I had disabled the double press to open camera since it was randomly opening when I pressed the button, I just didn't know double press for brightness was a feature (it's a useful one actually)

After every power cycle I get the notification to pair it and confirm that the codes match and on the bluetooth device itself I get a new 6039A device on the paired devices list after it happens, so it might be that issue you mentioned. (I attached a pic of how the devices list looks on the bluetooth device)

Well, I know and appreciate the free time from your daily life you take to develop and share your work. Hopefully certain type of entitled idiots who think they deserve everything their way and for free don't discourage you to keep up with your amazing work!
Versions 1.1 release

hopefully bluetooth paired devices retention is working now

USB bug
After installing I cant transfer files from my device to pc.
In developer options you cant change the USB option from just charge to MTP, PTP or any other it stays in just charge
UPDATE: At the USB Configuration select MTP and keep touching the option to change it
NOTE: Enable Developer options before connecting the device for the first time to the pc

yes, i'm aware you can't change in developer options while it is not attached to pc,
and it bugs out sometimes when it's attached to pc
--this is a problem in the lineage source, not the device tree and therefore out of my control
--use the notification in the status bar to choose how you want the device to connect PTP, MTP, Charge only--this works perfectly and as expected
Somewhere along the way, CM/Lineage has messed with the Bluetooth stack in the source code, and there seems to be possibly some missing component service that needs to be running in order for fine location access to be given to bluetooth in order for it to work correctly, and this is also related to smart lock.
at this time, upon every reboot of your device, you will have to re-pair any bluetooth device you have used previously. auto-connect is broken in the bluetooth service stack somehow. also, your device is created anew each time it is rebooted due to a security measure enacted by google a while back that randomizes your bluetooth mac address so that your device location can't be sniffed by third-party apps. there's a whole long bulletin about it somewhere, but i guarantee this is why bluetooth auto-reconnect is broken after a power cycle.
i have discontinued all use of lineage 13 personally because of this reason alone.
i'll still be work on this rom though.
just don't expect a fix for bluetooth from me because it will have to come from upstream aosp and then made known to everyone.
