Xt1684 xt1685 uk - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi guys and gals
Any information on functionality of this model after unlocking bootloader, flashing TWRP and choice of rom.
Why I posted was to check that whoever reads this post can be assured of at least getting the same experience of the stock OS, but with all the goodies that come with Oreo, preferably 64bit version.
One thing I have noticed is that download links tend to have a specific model ie pixel experience shows xt1686 on androidfilehost.
So any information regarding UK only model can be kept in one place, if anyone has spent any time reading the G5plus forums its a right mess between the different models, and the same questions and answers are going around again and again, so for us if having one Country specific post can help any confusion, great in my book.
Any non UK owners, please do not clutter up this thread, suggest you create your own model/country specific new post.
Regards
Ray

I've only just got my xt1685, so haven't rooted yet.
I want to use android pay so need to read up on that first.
I've also have a G3 and I prosume this will be the same and any regnal version for a G5 plus will work.

I have an i9500 I bought in Mozambique. Yes, Mozambique. But I have since moved to the US and want to maximize the value of the phone and take advantage of a new ROM.
I have read a number of thread about the CSC codes, but cannot understand clearly what this means. My CSC is i9500OJVFNG1
Since my phone is not a US variant, I get that it will never be 100% the best possible phone, i.e, lacking LTE.
I have not rooted this phone or changed anything from the 4.4.2 ROM that came OTA a while ago.
There is lots out there about the Russian 5.0.1 ROM, but I still do not understand the consequences of using that ROM.
The "dumb" question is how can I get the latest ROM, but the smarter question is to ask for help in understanding how this works and how I can become better at understanding how to upgrade ROMs. Please advise if there is another thread I need to look at (since searching has not helped). Many thanks.

[SM-J5108] Convert my J5 SM-J5108 to a more usable version ? (510F ?)

Hello,
My title may not be very cler but I can't find any custom ROMs for my device the J5 SM-J5108CHM (J5 China Mobile version) I can find official firmware but I just hate the interface, I found a really good-looking ROM (VIperOS) but it was for another variant of the phone.
So my question is : can I convert this phone to some other variant with same specs ? Thanks in advance
I've got the same question but no one seems to go to this thread if anyone has an answer to this that would be very appreciated. the j5108 seems to have all the same specs as the other variants so it should work but I'm not taking any risks because this is my everyday phone.
also the china mobile os is complete rubbish use this one (im a new user so i cant post link but just search up updato (dot) com, go to search bar and search j5108, in teh filters bar up top choose hong kong and press update under the search bar)
First, install any lollipop update (if you skip straight to marshmallow you'll end up in a bootloop), and then install either OTA update (it keeps failing for people but its good if you don't want to use Odin again) or you can download the marshmallow os after you install lollipop (make sure to NOT do a factory reset etc you'll end up in a boot loop). Install MM os and boom GAPPS and everything else you'll need.

You can't. Its a different phone. Maybe you think because it says J5 chinese version that its the same thing, just different model number. There are reasons why ot has a different model number, baseband, etc... Its like you have the Samsung Galaxy S2 with exynos and the American one with SD. They are both S2, but totaly different phones.
does xda have a word cap or did my other post not post because it was long or is the image verification a post-verification. anyway, i was saying that all the j5 2016 variants are exactly the same which in theory would allow any model's OS to work on any variant. S2 isn't a great comparison because different models have different hardware while j5 2016 has different models with identical hardware. Just search up j5108 specs and j510x specs and they'll all be the same ill post back in a few weeks when I get a new battery and test out different OS (rn I'm using the stock hong kong OS). I'll try OS for different PDAs and then ill try out different models. Btw all the spec sites say the variants are compatible with Australia so I shouldn't have a problem using different models OS in Australia (meaning 4G, wifi, phone numbers etc should be fine).
Also please explain in more depth why j5 2016 variants are so different to the point that they have different model numbers (i know that sounds passive aggressive and pretend it isn't I honestly want to know). I'm super sorry if I sound like an arrogant **** that wants everything his way but the way the j5 2016 models are made they all seem identical and logically (and in theory) the other variants OS should work on the j5108. if for some reason I cant see my first reply but others can I'm so sorry for this post.

Phones today can have the same harware, same SoC, same RAM, same everything, even the same RIL preferences, but they are different models. The whole stock software was made for a specific device model. The J510FN is different than the J510H, if there was no difference why would Samsung bother to make many versions? The whole operating system, every part of it: Kernel, Apps, Recovery, Hal, Bootloader are mannualy made for a specific model number. Because of that it is hard to make a ROM that supports all of the phones in one Samsung model family lineup. You see now that by pure logic the j508 is very different from the J510FN

Upgrade Note 3 N900A Factory Unlock

Hello
I am new to this forum and definitely to the aspect of upgrading the OS. I own Note 3 SM-900A which I bought online. It is factory unlocked. I am using it in India since 2014. There has been no problem ever since. But I have now realised that many apps don't work including Google Assistant on current OS 4.3. I wish to upgrade it. However I face a problem when I try OTA upgrade that no upgrades are available. This is understandable as I am not part of AT&T network.
I guess the only option left is root and upgrade. Therefore my queries:-
1. How does one go about it?
2. Which version of OS do I install and where do I get it form?
3. Do I have to install custom ROM? Can't I simply download pure OS and install it?
Sorry for sounding like a newbie... I am one thought.

Are you sure you are pointing me too the right forum. They seem to be discussing about spotting the difference between the real and fake phones. Mine is not such case.
You need to read that post .
Models are listed and forums linked.
Forums also listed at the bottom of this Note 3 forum.
The n900a is the AT&T version of the note3:https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att

LG V20 (H91010l) AT&T to Stock LG ROM

Hi all! Newbie here.
This has been asked before but I need to confirm a few things.
So I just bought a used LG V20 here in the Middle East but only later realized that it is an AT&T unlocked device. I have attached a screenshot of my device software info. It has all the bloatware and is running Nougat December 2016 patch.
I read that AT&T OTA updates can only be received if it the device has the AT&T sim connected to servers in the USA. I want my device to run the original stock ROM by LG and not a carrier one as such.
I searched around and came across this thread which seems to be the closest situation as mine;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/help/remove-att-rom-to-att-stock-rom-t3809173
Considering that I'm not a techie but I can run things with guidelines and the software version on my device is H91010l;
Question 1) Can I just follow the method Brian has mentioned in the thread or is there anything extra that needs to be done? I've read that some devices are blocked to have different firmwares loaded onto them.
Question 2) What kind of backup needs to be taken? I don't have any data on this phone yet so I have nothing to lose but I don't know how to take backups of system files if that's required. A guide on that would be helpful!
Apologies for the long post and repeated questions, but software help here in the Middle East is limited so I don't want to put myself into any trouble with a bricked phone.
Thanks in advance!
Just follow Brian's instructions. You don't have to root if that's what you would like to know.
Just an #FYI, before some "Senior" member gets on your case, you may want to use the search option in the LG V20 forum, as well as the search option within the threads.
Use keywords, such as "H910 to us996 no root." If you use Google search, you can use something like, "H910 to us996 xda." You're going to have to read a lot, compare information on threads, look up videos on YouTube, but know that if language seems to be a barrier, you can ask. And don't be intimidated with some jerks on here. There are plenty of experienced and knowledgeable folks on this forum...but you also have to do your part in research and troubleshooting.
