The A7U with MM (as I have modified it) has been very satisfactory, but I continue to debate over the upgrade to N7.0.
I did try some early Nougat versions on the old Nexus 5 and a Samsung tablet and ended up reverting back due to various performance issues, but that was a while ago.
Also, some here have reported problems either with the process or with the function of the end resut, so I am looking for some recommendations pro or con about making the move to B15.
Thanks

I'm on N and the only reason im on N is because ZTE fixed the VoLTE and its not roaming on Verizon any more. Pretty much works as it should and acts just like a Verizon device which is impressive, because we never get to play with unlocked devices on Verizon.
Now to the actual B15 stuff. Its a bit more laggy then MM and a few apps are pretty much unusable on N. Those are WhatsApp and LinkedIn on my device. I think I've seen another one or two somewhere else.
Camera is definitely better for me. Battery is great for me but it was great before the update.
Pretty sure im forgetting a few things. Overall im happy with the device and even happier that VoLTE works now.
7.1.1 should be out soon, hopefully that takes care of these few issues.
All of this is covered in the nougat thread.
Seeing a higher build number in About Device

Thanks for your typical, cryptic response. I see lot of ROM threads and conflicting guides, but certainly no "Nougat thread". Can you offer a link?

This is the thread that was started when nougat was released.
It mostly covers flashing issues but there is feedback as well.
You can also read the zte forum for lots of N opinions, probably more then anyone could ever need.
Personally I think its ok, but only with custom kernel to speed it up. Hoping 7.1.1 will be better.

Thanks, hadn't seen it & gave it a read. I loaded Stock (rooted) 7.0 and found it fine. Perhaps a touch slower than MM, but certainly no noticeable problems (or benefit).
I had Substratum working 98% (including Android System) in MM so missed the darker theme. Also TB was unable to see its archive on the extSDcard, although worked fine when I moved it to the internal storage.
Also tried RR, but couldn't get Gapps to install over the ROM (TWRP errors: either unsupported device or incompatible ROM errors), so reverted back to B29 for now.
I saved a TWRP BU of B15 w/ all data for a starting point when 7.1 is released.
a user sent me a PM with a link to a Russian forum that may contain roms for both T560 and T561.
I can see links for CM 11 to 13 and Lineage 14 but I am not sure if these are actual roms, fix or bug reports.
So anyone here speak Russian?

Let's discuss here
Was able to download the firmware for CM 13 (MM 6.0.1) and Lineage 14 but haven't flashed them yet since the link for boot.img for the roms is dead. hmmm
Lineage 14: MOD Edit :- Links Removed
CM 13: MOD Edit :- Links Removed
I tried cm12.1, 13, 14.1 in my sm-t560.
Cm12.1 it works but then it restarts
CM 13 no bugs
lineage 14.1 no works

Hi so CM 13 is ok from the following links? Did you need to flash the boot.img?
I read you said no bugs but to be sure, does the USB OTG work on the CM 13 still?
Can you lay down what you did exactly. Thanks buddy!

Do not install the boot.img.
OTG works.
Thanks buddy
Will just do a backup and flash this. We can talk about features here as well so others will know. I have a T561
Are you using TWRP 3.0 on your T560? It's a requirement for flashing lineage 14.
However, I'm using T561 and I can't find a compatible TWRP version 3.0 for my device.
Will try to flash CM 13 now. Will update.

3.0.2-0, the one that is published here.
Yes I saw T560 has a TWRP version 3. However T561 doesn't have it and the one on the Russian forum seems pouting to a dead link. Will try to contact the author. He was the one who sent me a PM.
Anyway, so CM 13 worked for me. Still testing but I find the animations a little sluggish. Not sure but in the early days of Android ROM flashing it was advised to let a new rom settle for a couple of hours, even days. I will be patient with this. It's a fresh sight over TouchWiz.
Anyway quite happy I found a working rom after months of searching (CM 13).
All essentials are working so far.
Wifi
USB OTG
Camera
Sim (t561)
USB MTP seems broken. My laptop can detect it and shows as removable storage but it doesn't show on the windows explorer. Not sure what's going on. Anyway not a biggie I can use the OTG to transfer files.
Attaching some pictures here.
Will update on performance.

Do you have the img of 14.1?
Nope non, haven't tried flashing lineage 14 since it says it requires TWRP 3.0 which I don't have.
How do you find CM 13 so far? Wonder if the lineage 14 OS is much faster. Haven't heard from the creator yet. He did mention he isn't as active here.
One thing I noticed is the CM 13 (marshmallow) does not support moving of app from internal to partitioned SDcard via App2SD or Link2SD.
Not sure if it's a Marshmallow thing (adoptable storage) or a rom thing.
Thoughts?
Edit:
Moving2SD isn't supported but linking to SD is.

All thanked for Ma3a_XaTa
Wow thank you for this. Yes he was the one who sent me a message. Do I need to flash this via Odin or flashing it via existing TWRP is ok? Have you tried Lineage 14?
EDIT:
Flashed the TWRP 3.0 via TWRP 2.8. Will update if Lineage 14 is ok.
EDIT:
The device boots up on Lineage 14 but I am always notified of the following warning.
"com.android.phone has stopped"
I am able to set up the tablet but that warning always pops up even after two install attempts.
Also, The SIM card isn't detected on this ROM, which is a no biggie but would help if anyone knows of a fix?
This is the error I am recieving. Hope there's a fix for this
Edit:
Edit:
Tried the following steps
Clear Cache and Data of the Phone App, SIM Toolkit, Reboot. The problem still persists.
Lineage 14 is so much faster then CM 13. We're so close already to having a useable Nougat ROM. Maybe it has something to do with that boot.img for lineage which can't be downloaded.
Found a temporary fix.
Activate developer options > USB Debugging. Then when the warning prompts again, there is now an option > hide till device restarts.

So far so good using this tablet on Lineage 14. I am using a very good launcher called Sentio Launcher. Allows me to work on the tablet like a laptop. I have a Bluetooth keyboard.
This is good as a daily driver. Wish the SIM function can be fixed but I don't mind really :3
sm-t560 does not work (7.1.2), do not pass the boot.img?
Hi all,
Sorry, I never know whether I should post this kind of thing in the General section or Troubleshooting...
I'm looking for up-to-date advice. What, in your opinion, is the most stable and smooth custom rom available. I'm looking for something as recent as possible, preferably Nougat +, but could be MM if necessary.
The phone is going to be used by my mother-in-law so doesn't need any fancy customization, just reliability and performance.
Thanks!! :good:

Is it this Lineage rom?:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/development/rom-t3657384
Yup thats it
I used munjenis los 14.1 and switched to AICP 13.1 Oreo. It has up to date patches and is in my opinion currently the best up to date rom. Camera is also fine for me.
hi all! i tried oreo yesterday and all of google (esp. play store & play services) didn't work. tried older versions via apk but no success. without play store makes no sense. anyone an idea why it works for jho55 but not for me (d5503)? and jho55, why did you switch; only for newer version or other reasons? could you give me d/l link to the exact aicp rom u used? at aicp rom it says that there is an issue with oreo on z1c and video recording; does that work on your device? thx&greets, volkbaad
EDIT: found out myself now that i need gapps, too in order to take benefit of google. i work a lot on pc's but up to now not on android, esp. custom roms. it's a bit confusing at first sight; but i'm learning...
It is very important that you follow the instructions posted in the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/so...development/rom-aicp-13-1-o8-1-amami-t3755554
I am using the rom because I want to have the newest security updates, a fresh android, root access(adblock, firewall). Video recording is working for me.

IT WORKS!!!
At first try I used GApps "super" (14.5.81; 900 MB) and guess I didn't clear all cache and data. This obviously ended up in a mess with old Google Play files and new OS. Second time I cleared system, data, cache and dalvik cache before flashing new ROM, rebooted into normal OS and back into (TWRP) recovery before I flashed GApps "micro" (14.8.xx; 300 MB). "Super" and "mini" had some apps which were unfunctional; and if included in package you cannot uninstall and manually reinstall them, so smaller GApps version is safer.
This time the new install became functional w/o any problem. There was even no need to search and installe older version of GApps, as reported elsewhere.
Maybe this is helpful for other Z1C owners. In the thread mentioned above seemingly not every necessary detail is mentioned.
I think the instructions are pretty straight forward from there it says "How to flash:".
I'm not decided yet. For me it's either AICP 13.1 (oreo) or 115ek's LineageOS 15.1 (Oreo). Both are very stable and suitable for every day useage. And they are maintained in regards to security updates
Pro AICP: some really nice features and add-ons (e.g. theming, nice recent apps solutions, extended phone settings and customizations etc.). Together with some optimzing apps (LSpeed, SysConfigPatcher) battery consumption is ok
Pro LOS 15.1: in my opinion a tad faster and and more efficient in reagrds to battery consumption; rather reduced, but I kind of like that
munjeni's LOS version is great (had that running for over a year) but a bit aged now
I've had LOS 14.1 installed for a while and it seems pretty good, however it seems to have some significant bugs. The big one is that Google Duo doesn't work properly- the mic doesn't work so calls are pointless. Dues anyone else have this problem? Or can anyone give me a ROM where Duo definitely works?
Mic volume in general is pretty quiet.

Hi,
I have not yet done so, but I plan on installing e.foundation's OS to my Essential Phone. Before I start, I would like to ensure that I can reinstall or switch back to Android, in case I muck it up. Is there a way to backup the installed Android or switch back?
I've heard of Nandroid (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459830), but I'm not sure if it will do what I need (A full backup and restore over another ROM). For example, if on Linux, I could use "dd" to copy an entire partition, and write it back later.
Also, as I understand it from (https://mata.readthedocs.io/en/latest/), the phone contains two sets of partitions (slots). If I install the custom ROM to one slot, can I switch back to Android by executing the adb command to change the active slot?
Thanks in advance for help on this. I would very much like to avoid bricking my phone.
Cheers.

It is not unsupported. It is not old (though it is Nougat). Constantly updated. Is more than just LineageOS and microG.
Do not spread FUD. Seriously.
@neXussT, I would suggest downloading the latest various stock ROMs, Pie, Oreo, Nougat, whichever or all. Have them at the ready on your PC/laptop. You could always fastboot flash the originals if things don't work out.

You'll have to downgrade to Nougat firmware first before trying /e/OS anyway so I doubt you can have Pie or Oreo on one slot and /e/OS on the other.
I have /e/OS on the Essential and Axon 7 (multiboot with other ROMs). Last update was about a day ago.
Essential PH-1, /e/OS 0.7-n ROM, microG (NoGapps), XDA Legacy
Thanks marcdw. Those are good tips. I would never have thought of a version difference causing issues. Cheers.

I see your definition of old (3 versions behind) is different than mine...
Also... Merging 2 year old security patches and updating that which even CAF has moved on from... Is what I would call unsupported...
Alrighty then.
I personally don't adhere to the notion that folks must run the latest and (not so) greatest because it's there. Let folks run what they want to run, be it old or new. Discouraging folks doesn't seem too cool. IMNSHO of course.

I’m going to wait a little bit before doing my root. I had a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 recently die on me. I tried replacing the charging port and the battery but the thing was still dead. So I ordered an S5e. It should be arriving tomorrow. I’m just curious what everyone is doing with it now. I did a quick search and it looks like root is available now. But the instructions I found are outdated saying a recovery method (TWRP) wasn’t available but there was a news announcement saying it now was. So I’m kind of lost.
Like I said, I want to play around with it unmodded for a while before I root it. Just looking for a clear cut “best” way to go about doing it and seeing what the most recommended options are.
On my s10 I remember having TWRP as the recovery and Cyanogen was the OS.
Thanks!

I spent the whole weekend in my new s5e wifi edition, the truth as follows:
There are 4 ROMs for this tablet:
Original (shipped with Samsung ROM, Android 9) - Everything works fine, antutu v8 183k, but full of crapware from Samsung, suspicious apps and services, don't waste your time doing root on this ROM
LineageOS 16 (Android 9) - So far the best ROM at this moment, antutu v8 183k too, stable and HDMI issues too, but there is a workaround, (look my other HDMI problem thread)
LineageOS 17 (Android 10) - Trebuchet launcher crashing constantly, HDMI issues so I didn't test antutu because felt too unstable, so I gave up too
LuisROM - antutu v8 170k and HDMI issues too, so I gave up
I installed all the ROMs using TWRP, the root just works with magisk, the official LOS16 root su zip doesn't work. Once you have the TWRP installed you can just install the magisk .zip the same way you do with the ROMs, then the magisk manager will appear installed automatically where you can check the root status. Good luck!

Why not root the original rom and delete as much crapware as possible after root? That was my plan when my tab S5e will arrive.
You speak about TWRP but in this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s5e/how-to/galaxy-tab-s5e-sm-t720-root-t3947806 and that is the only decent one I could find, they explain that TWRP does not work on the Tab S5e because of changes Samsung made. Are yu saying that TWRP works?

Those posts are a reference, dont follow their procedures hoping that will work as they described... yes I AM using TWRP it works, get from their website "twrp-3.3.1-4-gts4lvwifi.img.tar" and "vbmeta.tar" then via ODIN, flash them, one each time, rebooting after the process. Once you have the TWRP installed, you can play around with any ROM and do the root as I explained before. I don't trust in a ROM full of crapware, its my point of view, cleaning based on tests you can never be sure if there is nothing left stealing your data or forcing updates or whatever samsung decides... so LOS is the way, clean, open-source, nothing to hide.

that is amazing news....I would love to try this out with my device and downloaded the files you suggested. I also found "PGP Signature vbmeta.tar.asc", do I need that too?
I have to admit that I have not much experiencing rooting...I only installed TWRP on my Samsung J5 phone years ago and after that I loaded another rom (I think lineage) on it. a stripped down version that offered more intern memory and that is still running smooth on my phone today.
So would it be possible to give me some more advice? Is it correct that I have to connect the S5e with Odin by booting it in download mode? And can you tell me where I have to load the files in Odin? Is it in the AP section?
And are there options I have to enable in Odin? (I heard something about a reboot option you have to enable or disable).
I hope you can help me with those questions. What model of tab are you using btw? Is it a 720 ?
Thanx in advance,
