After unlocking the bootloader, I attempted to flash the recovery to my A1. Unfortunately it doesn't boot into recovery...it keeps booting into system.
I'm on 1 December patch. Can anyone help to point me to the right direction?

You flash twrp by adb? You can't do that way
Can you explain how are you doing the process?
Using "fastboot flash recovery twrp_xxx.img" or "fastboot boot twrp_xxx.img"?
Detail the steps you make to try to boot the recovery.

even i tried with the latest twrp....its not booting to twrp... I'm having January patch....did you find a solution???
Try this, if you have rooted.
Check if there are these two files present.
->/system/recovery-from-boot.bak
->/system/bin/install-recovery.sh
If found, delete these two files.
You can use es file explorer. Mount system in r/w
Now flash twrp using rashr or flashify or fastboot... It should work.
Do it at your own risk. And do remember, whenever you flash a new rom, you should repeat this again.
I have the same issue
I have unlocked bootloader
I am on last May patch
I am trying to ONLY boot to TWRP with comand:
fastboot boot twrp.img
AFter this comand the device boot to system
May you help me ?

Hello everyone!
I'm trying to root in my Zenfone 3 (ZE552KL) but I'm not getting it and I decided to come and ask for your help
Follow this tutorial step by step
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/guide-how-to-root-zenfone-3-ze552kl-t3471524
I did all the steps successfully and there was nothing "strange", in step 5 of the guide it tells you to access the recovery mode of TWRP but when I access the recovery mode I just get into the recovery mode of Android and not the TWRP.
Anyone have any idea what might be happening? When I installed TWRP it was all normal, no error message or failed.
Thank you.

have you enabled usb debugging from developer options?
Same problem.
I flashed twrp so many times successfully, but stock recovery persists each time.
(usb debugging on).
I've had that a couple times. After flashing twrp in fastboot, type "fastboot boot twrp.img" where twrp.img is the recovery image you just flashed.

First of all, flash TWRP recovery via FASTBOOT
Commands: flash recovery xxx.img
After flashing, type this: fastboot reboot (hold volume down on your ZenFone 3)
When the dm-verity message pops out, release volume keys and don't touch anything. TWRP will boot up.

Hi All,
I flashed oreo to my Mate 9 today, all was well until I tried to root.
Now it won't boot, stuck in bootloop. I can get to Fastboot and TWRP Recovery.
Tried to reflash, but now no bootloop - just got fastboot and TWRP.
When in TWRP device is not showing up in ADB devices, so can't push anything.
Any ideas as to how to come back from this?
Thanks.
Things are worse now... it won't reboot to recovery. Can still get fastboot though.
When reboot to recovery it just sits on "your device is booting now..." and doesn't seem to progress. I have re-flashed TWRP via fastboot... but still the same.

Device shows phone and FRP as unlocked.
I have extracted the oreo update using a Perl script i found on another thread. Flashing system, kernel, recovery_ramdisk has made no difference.
Anyone able to help please?
What root did u use magisk or su?
Why don't you use this method?
Its safe and no more side effects.
Then after you can root with magisk.

Currently running into some issues with TWRP. I follow the official guide on TWRP's website;
I reboot into bootloader (adb reboot bootloader)
Flash the twrp.img (fastboot flash recovery twrp.img)
Reboot straight into TWRP (without any issues) – plugging out the cable and holding the combination keys
When I try to boot up after all of these steps I end up with a bootloop, not going into recovery but getting the Sony screen over and over again. Is this a common issue or am I just a total idiot with an obvious mistake?

Sorry for lack of information in the post.
Running Customized UK (8.0.0) downloaded with XperiFirm and flashed with FlashTool. I got no root, bootloader is unlocked. Phone was working fully and running like it should be before installation of TWRP, after installation of TWRP there is no way of me booting to the system.

I know that if you don't modify your boot img, (rootkernel), Sony security will cause boot failure at any sign of modification. I didn't realize that it would happen just by flashing recovery, and not modifying anything, but I guess so... Flash the rom again, then flash modified boot img before you turn it on, (you can use rootkernel to make one, or copy one from root thread in this forum), then flash TWRP...

So as I woke up I had just seen that omg Android 10 is finally being released, the stable version. I just downloaded the OTA and flashed it and wow am i impressed. The first thing I did was do an antutu benchmark and I got 354802 which I thought was pretty impressive. Then I saw that it said that my device was rooted, which was odd, because I just updated the rom. I checked magisk manager and it showed that magisk was not installed. I tried the usual way to get into recovery by using fastboot boot twrp.img but it just didnt work.
Is this a bug or something else?

Well, it's expected behaviour for A10. fastboot boot is currently disabled by OnePlus devs.
Try Fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img(or whatever you named the file)
I did this and it was flashing the TWRP as boot.img. After that my OP6T didn't get out of the locked screen or showed the Qualcomm CrashDumb.
After several times pressing the power button, finally the bootloader showed up again and I was able to flash the original boot.img again
Twrp can't flash anything to system in A10 right now, so unless that is fixed there is no point at this moment anyway. A10 uses a virtualized system partition which doesn't allow R/W access to system....

It depends upon the context. If you are already in A10 and If you are using Twrp which is for Android Q, it should.
If you're on OOS 10.3.0 it should work as is
In other cases try 'fastboot flash boot twrp img'
Numerous posts about that
Attempted to update from the latest stable 10.3.12 to 11 by flashing the full OTA zip in TWRP.
Install failed and phone locked up.
Attempting to boot to recovery or system results in Qualcomm Crashdump Mode.
I can get to Fastboot, but I'm not sure if I should try flashing twrp.img or pull boot.img from the OTA or what.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I did not have time to wait so before bed I just reset everything.
I ended up using the MSM tool located here:

Unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP & Magisk, installed A11 zip, everything is working again now.
Good luck!

Flash temporary recovery first ( lineage recovery ) then from fastboot.. boot into recovery.
You will see lineage recovery.
Select apply update - > update from adb ....
Then "adb sideload <twrp image>.img...
(probably it ask to verify choose yes)
Go back select advanced restart ( not sure the right word ) -> reboot to recovery.
Then you will have twrp installed.
If you only want to root why not flash magiskpatched image there no need TWRP just to root.

Hm but how would I install lineage recovery? Flashing recovery through fastboot doesn't work on the new devices anymore right?
I also tried booting lineage recovery without flashing but that also didn't work (although it didn't get stuck on crashdump but booted into the regular OS instead).
I did notice that it seems to be related to OOS 11 firmware. On 10 booting into TWRP works just fine and as soon as I upgrade to 11 it stops working (maybe this means it's fixable?). What I used as a workaround for now is to have 10 firmware in one slot, upgrade other slot to 11 and flash TWRP to both slots from the 10 slot. Seems to work so far but is not ideal IMO. I'm not a developer sadly but maybe someone smarter than me will come up with a solution.
What do you mean by "new device"?? New OOS version right??
I use this method all the time with oos 11.x.x.x.x to install TWRP so i can install Custom ROM later.
no need to go to oos 10 you can flash it from newest oos11.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First boot into fastboot mode.
to install lineage recovery
fastboot flash boot <lineage recovery image>.img
download from here https://download.lineageos.org/fajita
menualy select and boot to recovery. It will boot to lineage recovery.
