Dead phone revival? - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Don't know if anyone can help?
My PH-1 has died
Had some issues with UI stuttering and tried reflashing original rom, but kept getting failed to write errors.
After many attempts I was worried the battery was low. So I powered down. Then when I plugged the phone in to charge, no charging indicator or led showed.
I left it over night to see if it would charge anyway.
Next morning I tried to reboot, but only got a micro second green LED flash and nothing.
Maybe someone will have an idea?
Thanks

Leave it charging overnight.
In the morning connect it to a windows PC while you keep the Vol-
Check Device Manager in windows and see if you can see the device as QHSUSB...
If you can see that there is hope. Let us know

Ok, will give it a try.
Thanks

No longer booting into recovery/OS... crap..

been using epic experience for a month or so now no problems... haven't messed with any new updates or anything for awhile... been busy >.<. but randomly today i turned my phone off for a movie and when i turned it back on... the phone is getting stuck at Samsung loading screen and not doing anything... i tried booting into recovery and same thing... just the Samsung screen. i tried plugging it into my computer and tried using adb to see if it could be detected to recover the phone... to no avail =/ anyone ever come across this before? do i have any options? >.<
Have you tried putting it into download mode? Hold "1" on the keyboard while powering on. If you can get into download mode you can use Odin to factory reset. See here for instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032 and here for the DI18 stock (so you won't have to do OTA update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794138
well she went straight to download mode... ive never used odin... somehow i got by with flashing everything on thbis phone without touching Odin ... thanks a ton man, lets see if this works
ive tried like 2 times now... and it gets stuck on "recovery.bin " and stays on it for like 3+hours... is that normal?

No its not normal. Restart you computer and phone. Then try again. Odin should only take 5 minutes at the most

Make sure that the pit file goes in pit and the recovery file goes in pda.
Also make sure only reboot and debug are checked.

Odin is hit and miss at best. As mystery said restarts help, also try different usb ports and cables. Stick with it, one of these times it will work.
im at the point where my phone will no longer charge at all.. no lights or anything.. and only thing i can think of is charging the battery in another phone and putting in after full? this sucks =/ and still no fix

There is a new Odin in the development section. You might try that.
With the old version I had to uncheck "F. Reset" to make it work. It was doing that same thing, getting stuck.

You held down the power and the '1' key on the KB? If that doesn't get you into download mode you may be toast.
yeah download mode worked before but after a second fail of odin... (i think my battery died in the middle of the flash)... the phone wont do anything now not even download mode. what can i do with the phone now? i dont really need any more paperweights at my house... can i sell the phone for parts still?

Yeah, if the battery died in Odin that could probably kill it. You might try getting sprint to replace it under warrenty. Although I don't know if they would let you.
Since there was a recent forced voicemail update I would take it to Sprint and say this happened as a result of the update. Might not be ethical, but that's what I would do.

While I was installing a new rom usb cable desconenected

Hello,
While I was installing a new ROM for Galaxy 9000I s with Odin the USB cable has been disconnected.
And the phone now doesn't start up or even turn on the screen black light.
But the screen shows a phone icon with PC icon with orange the angle between them with ! sign
- Tried to re-connect it to my PC but the Samsung Kies doesn't see it .
So, please tell me what to do to fix this problem..
Thanks for advance
I take it you don't have the 3 button mode, therefore you'll have to make the usb jig to allow you to re flash the phone, search for how to make it.

yeah, just go back into the download mode
then you can flash the ROM again via Odin
Since no one has mentioned this,
To enter download mode, you hold the Volume Down + Home + Power
I've had the same problem. Couldn't enter recovery and download mode at first. Pull the battery and wait a few minutes before plugging it back in. After that i was able to enter download mode

Holding on to VolDn+Menu+Pwr for a very long time solved the issue for me. I had the same problem three times. The longest was maybe slightly more than 30 seconds. Even after the pic comes on keep holding the buttons.

Yes that works also.If you take the battery out, make sure you leave it out for more than half hour.In the meantime press some buttons on the phone to make sure to get rid of all the electricity stored in capacitors in there. When i had this problem i left the phone for 20 minutes and nothing happened. Then i read on a website that it might take more than half hour so i left it about 50 minutes, got recovery after all, factory reset all good.

Sorry for your trouble. This is definitely bad luck. There are the risky heat methods but I wouldn't recommend it.
Just claim that it fell out during Kies update or something, definitely don't tell them you were trying to flash on stuff with Odin
I always used to wonder what would happen if the USB disconnected / computer went into sleep mode or crashed when flashing a ROM. Thanks to the unfortunate OP, now I know! And I hope they fix his problem without making any fuss.

Won't start up help needed

Okay about two weeks ago I updated to 4.4.2 from 4.2.2(I think that's the one?) on my s4 and I've hated the update. I decided to root my phone using muniz method and it worked perfectly. I even changed to the nc1.
So, after using my phone without issues for two weeks roughly I noticed last night it started to randomly turn off while texting. It would just auto restart but it happened every 5-10 minutes. After an hour it started happening more often so I plugged my phone in. Now my phone will not even turn on. When I insert the battery the samsung start screen appears for about a second and then goes black. I have to pull out the battery for the phone to do ANYTHING. If the phone is plugged in while trying this and I insert the battery I literately get NOTHING. No samsung screen or anything.
Things I've tried.
Swapped the battery.
boot into odin
boot into safemode
plugged it in while trying to boot
Swapped the usb cord
taken out sim card
Some things to note is that I did not install any new app before this had happened. It was working the same for about two weeks with no issues.
When plugging in my phone to charge or anything I never get an led light at the top of my phone.
I seriously need some help with this. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Are you plugging it in to the stock wall charger? Your best bet is to get it to boot into download mode long enough to reflash NB1.

Yeah using stock wall charger from a wall, computer, and even a different charger.
Is download mode the one where you hold vol down + power + home?
If so it brings up the screen that asks you to press the volume up but it dies before it can ever make it to the downloading screen...

Experiment and see if you can get it to stay there. If not, you may need to try a best buy if you can.

Thanks, i'll keep playing with it but so far it just shuts off instantly in about a second or two.
If I bring it to best buy and they take it or anywhere else will I be shunned for rooting my phone?

If it won't start they won't know it's rooted. They'll try to flash the firmware which will remove root if they're successful, so again they won't know

I couldn't do factory reset because the phone wouldn't stay on long enough to do ANYTHING.
So as an update to this...
I was on my way to the closest store with samsung experience which is about an hour away from me and when I almost get there my phone RANDOMLY turns on...
I couldn't be more pissed and happy at the same time. So, obviously I try messing with it a bit and it shuts off again. This time I can get it to turn on after about 15 tries. Long enough for me to do a factory reset!
It lasted a good 30 minutes to an hour and it shut off again.
Hardware issue or is anyone else having this issue with 4.4.2 nc1?

Okay so I brought it by best buy and the guys couldn't flash it or do anything to it because it wouldn't turn on at all. They tried several batteries etc.
So, I decided to try the phone doctors and the guy thought it could be a malfunction in the power button because the phone tries to boot up any time you put the battery in. You don't have to hit any buttons and you can't insert the battery without it trying to power on.
I'll cross my fingers that's the problem and they phone doctor guy told me he has never seen this issue with an s4 but it was really common in s3's.
I go back in two hours to see if they have fixed it!

The s2 had this problem too and one way to confirm it was to pull the battery and put it back in. If it booted right away it was the power button. So it sounds like you're on to something.

I've been informed my phone might still be under factory warranty. Just out of speculation, if you root your phone and it ends up malfunctioning what would they do if you send it in for warranty? I'm not sure if my issue is hardware or software related at all.

[Q] Boot loop - cannot access recovery or download mode

Hello, maybe this was posted a lot of times, I just wanna get a second opinion before getting this to the shop. My phone (GT-i9500) suddenly went on to boot loop. I cannot enter download mode nor recovery mode. When attempting to put on download mode, when it tells me to press volume up, nothing happens and it restarts again. I was partially able to boot to recovery but it only showed the TWRP splash page then it reboots again. Does this mean that I have a broken motherboard? Any suggestions?

Let us know how it goes
The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. It happened exactly a year after I got my GT-I9500. Around midnight one weekend the phone had quite a bit of charge and was working fine. As I unlocked the screen to check a WhatsApp message, the phone suddenly shut down and entered a bootloop with the same symptoms as yours. I couldn't enter my stock recovery and download mode would only come up for a few seconds and it would re-enter the bootloop. I tried numerous battery pulls and made it loop over quite a bit and then gave up after an hour and left the battery out. Throughout the day I occasionally tried my luck to no avail. Maybe after 48 hours or less - a day without trying my luck included - since the initial incident, I carried it to the shop and as the employee put the battery in the phone I was baffled. The phone booted normally, no issues and has worked perfectly fine since then. She said sometimes our phones need a little rest.
I've also read that our model has had some battery problems like swelling. I noticed no swelling by the way. So my advice, leave the battery out for a day or two. My phone was not rooted at the time and was running stock TouchWiz Android 4.4.2. Good luck!

Hi Mate,
Great to know , glad it was something cheap and easy.

My A1 "died" and i dont know why

Hello folks.
So I left my A1 charging at night, the alarm woke me up as usual in the morning. Just before leaving home I took it to check the time and then it was already "dead".
PS: The phone was never been knocked over, wet etc...
Symptoms:
- Black screen, as if was turned off / without battery;
- Buttons do not work;
- Doesn't react to any connections.
- Doesn't enters fastboot mod;
- It's not recognized by the computer;
- Also not charging.
Any help is welcome, best regards.
happened to me the other day on AEX, after flashing a kernel, turns out it does switch on but I had to press the power button for quite some time and then it switched off again upon minutes from switching on. I entered the recovery with the same method and installed another kernel, it works fine now

It's a possibility, but it's strange the phone has like 4 months of use, never had any problem.
I'm willing to try some stuff first, even open the phone to unplug and replug the battery on the mb.
Otherwise at my country (Brazil) Xiaomi has no warranty
I had this problem and it was just due to an loose flex cable. Try opening and reattaching them :good:

No problem, just two screws att the bortom and use the nails around the edge. Be careful not to break the plastic frame around the screen, it can be quite weak.

So yesterday a oppened the phone, disatached the flats and atatched then again, unfortunatelly didn't help =[.
We also made some tests and seems like it could be an issue with the battery seems like it's not charging nor receiving any charge.
Seems like the "regulator" of the battery or something like that is not working as it should.
I'm gonna try to test this a in a more acurate way, at least to be sure that it's the battery.
Probably on EDL mode. Try reflashing stock with MiFlash. Helped me once.

You can try make edl usb cable first, if not work then search mi a1 test point, you'll need to jump 2 point on motherboard with wire/pin.

The phone will power on without any battery attached at all, so remove it and see if you get life. If not, then it's not the battery.

So yesterday i tryed to make the phone enter at the EDL mode, by jumping the 2 points on the motherboard. Unfortunately the computer didn't recognized the phone at all, i'v tryed several times.
I'm starting to think that something related to the the motherboard just died.
I'll lend it to a tecnical that can fix it or at least confirm the death of the phone to me.

Just tested it yesterday, without success.
Even with the battery disconnected and ubs at computer or charger, the phone still not giving any signal of life.
Does it mean that it must be a serious problem?

Hello mate.
I'm sry for you phone, at my case i'm starting to believe that the mb/cpu died.
I was thinking that it could be the board at the bottom (ubs, mic jac) but i have been told that it's really rare this to happen.
Yesterday i tested the battery and it's fully charged, (so the battery isn't the problem)
I'm weeling to take it at the end of the week into a tec who can test all the hardware stuff in order to know what actually have failed.
Have u also tryed to engage ur phone at EDL Mode?

Hi.
Yep also tried shorting the test points, it does not respond to anything. Just totally dead.
Its sad cause i really loved that phone. I might buy a used cheap one with a broken screen and use its main board or other parts.
Thanks Knievel
