Bootloader and modem question - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I want to install Lineage OS on my S5 G900F. I had this rom not long ago but I remember I had random reboots. I don't really understand how the bootloader and modem works ( I've read other threads before opening this but I'm not sure what to do so it's best to ask instead of breaking the phone ;D). If I will have android 7.x which bootloader and modem should I install? The latest and if yes where can I get download for those (I saw there is an option to extract it from official rom but the official one is version 6.0.1 so I'm not sure what to do).
If anyone can clear my misunderstanding and help me I will be glad, Thanks!

I am not using it but on the official LineageOS thread they recommend bootloader+modem combo from the latest available stock firmware which is android MM 6.0.1 of course.
You can get them for example from here (newest ones are: BL - CQI6, Modem - CQA9).

Thanks for the replay in the end I went back to stock rom and reinstalled lineage OS. Phone runs smooth and no crash until now. I think my problem is solved.

6.0.1 AOSP downgrade to custom TW ROM (AryaMod) and Bootloader help - N9005

I have a look through the threads and could not really get an answer I know would suite my situation exactly.
My question is this, I am currently running the latest Resurrection Remix ROM (6.0.1) and am wanting to install a ROM like AryaMod or another custom TW ROM for the Note 3 (not ported).
Can I just install the ROM through recovery?
Second question, my Baseband version is currently N9005XXUENA2 which I think is old - should I update to the latest bootloader and if so how do I go about this? This one I am really needing some easy to follow instructions as I have not updated the bootloader before.
Sorry if there is already a thread with this, I couldn't find it.
Thanks.
You say baseband then say bootloader .
One is not the same as the other .
Baseband is your Modem .

Ok, I am obviously a little confused. Where do I check my bootloader version? And how to I update that? And should I also update my baseband/modem?

Done, I did the cold boot and everything seems to be running smoothly. (Should I notice a difference in performance or battery at all?)
As for installing a Custom TW Lollipop ROM, do I just flash it through recovery and not have to do anything else? As in coming from 6.0.1 AOSP back to 5.1.1 TW is all fine?
Thanks again.
I recommend a full wipe in recovery before flashing another rom?

Hi Jabbarshah
If you followed xda tutorials by the letter, you have made a complete Nandroid backup before starting any modifications.
Just in case the information you eagerly need isn't present, you may restore that backup and regain access to it.
What lasted after ROM installation can be easily visualized using Phone INFO ★Samsung★. Specially Hardware and Personal tabs are stock information.

Your main information while seeking for a new ROM is the model SM-G900I. Nothing else matters.
You will just need to take care, for future flashes, that your bootloader and modem are matching (closer enough) the firmware you are flashing.
Example:
a) If you intend to flash PopWiz Telstra v5.1 that is compatible with your G900I, would be kinda complex as @iris28 doesn't clearly states which firmware version he's using. The information may be somewhere onto his thread but unfortunately isn't advertised as should.
b) THE GALAXY PROJECT by Master @djb77 states clearly that he's using Lollipop XXS1BPD3. :victory: ... so you end opting for it.
Now you just have to search for the closer firmware you can find that will match (not exactly) TGP. You have a complete list at Sammobile SM-G900I. Seek for your country/provider with higher Lollipop (5.0) release. If you are unable to find a flashable Odin file for that, you may do it yourself (xda way)
Hope I could be clear enough.
Have fun.

Problem with S6 and Note 5 ported roms.

Info:
Model: G900W8
Android Version: Stock 6.0.1 rooted manually with Philz Touch.
Hello people of XDA, I am currently facing a problem with flashing ROMs for my G900W8 that are S6/N5 ports. Whenever I flash either of these ROMS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-5-1-1-tw-revolution-s5-s6e-note-5-t3235824
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-popwiz-telstra-note-5-port-v3-0-t3265997
it boots up alright but the wifi says it's turning on and never does, and the capacitive buttons don't work. I use the option "Wipe clean to install new rom" before flashing either of these of course.

Hi sanskimost
As recommended by the devs, did you previously updated the Bootloader and Modem to Marshmallow too?
Sorry asking but you didn't stated all the steps you took to flash and that will always bring doubts while supporting issues like yours.
Please be as more detailed as you can ... ok ?
Nice regards and good luck.
.
I'm on marshmallow right now (as I stated above) so I do have the bootloader and modem as marshmallow
These seem to be lollipop based roms. You may need to flash Lollipop modem.

Dear sanskimost
You didn't stated if you had flashed Modem/BL according to devs instructions. The misbehavior you pointed is characteristic from a discordance between firmware and modem. That's why I've asked.
I've used for long time Revolution v5.3 (Lollipop). I've never flashed the MM version as it has several bugs (openly mentioned all over the thread). Even, v6 had his download link removed a day before release.
The only release available of Popwiz is Lollipop.
So, if you have Modem+BL Marshmallow, as you stated, that is the problem.
I'm now running [N5 Port][6.0.1]Thunderbolt N5 Port and a fellow user with SM-G900W8 as you, flashed it too + Stock Kernel (as per my instructions) and reported a flawless experience.
You should try.
Nice regards and good luck.

If I flash Lollipop modem and bl, do I have to delete all my data? And also if I flash revolution, do I flash hispasian kernel before or after first boot?

S7 Edge roms, twrp, etc

Hi everyone I'm new to samsung devices but definitely not to android in general since I come from years of htc devices, root, flashing and so on.. still I am facing a bit of confusion here so instead of writing in every single thread I'll ask you here my questions:
1. As I read on TWRP official thread "it's incredibly hard to brick a sam device"; anyway I understand that this is never a risk free process but reading the comments it seems like people on nougat firmware are facing some kind of trouble so my question is: Is it safe to flash twrp on nougat firmware? And which one? 3.1.1-0 latest version should be fine right?
2. Let's suppose I'm now on twrp but instead of rooting the stock rom I flash directly a custom rom, I still need to flash "dm-verity and force encryption disabler"? After some reading I see people that flashes this after every new rom, someone suggests to use 2.2 version but the latest is 5.xx and the content of the zips is different between this two versions (5.xx contains a chromeos folder, the other one no??)
3. "Update modem and bl" , this is meant for those who want to flash a rom based on a higher firmware right? I'm on the latest (may security update) so there's no need to update modem and bl at least I think (?)
That's all, I'm sorry for this long post and my bad english!

Uncommon behavior when flashing custom ROM - Please help :)

First of all hello to everyone!
I have quite weird problem:
I have my phone rooted and customized since day one - Installed KitKat, tried some launchers, unlocked UPSM and so on.
It ran flawlessly for nearly 4 years.
Recently, for no particular reason I decided to wipe&refresh it and maybe install some totally custom ROM.
NOW: I can install ROMS like Lineage 14.1, 15.1 or Resurrection Remix 6.0 and they run fine except (yes, You probably guessed it) they mess up baseband and IMEI.
I can still revert to original 4.4.2 stock ROM and both baseband and IMEI work fine so i'm not in any "brick panic"
The point is I still want to move to some custom ROM but can't sort out baseband-modem and IMEI problem.
I tried to flash several different modems to no avail - sometimes (totally randomly) IMEI showed up on first boot after flashing but was gone after reboot.
- On my current 4.4.2 stock, IMEI shows up correctly NO MATTER which modem version I flash (is it weird or normal or what?)
- none of modem versions work on Lineage OS nor RR
- SIM card works flawlessly on all other devices and on my current 4.4.2 ROM so it's not damaged.
Is it matter of proper custom ROM+MODEM combination or something else?
Can anyone help to sort it out?
What more information do You need?
Thanks in advance!
Flash the latest lollipop stock firmware to update your bootloader.
Yeah, meanwhile I did flash lollipop an hour ago and it works fine with IMEI and all.
Latest version I could find for my phone was Lollipop 5.0
How can I tell if bootloader is updated?
Can I Flash sole bootloader independently via Odin?

Yes you can. Go to this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/bootloader-baseband-bl-cp-samsung-t3582504
Thank You all for help and pointing to right direction!
Taking care of proper bootloader version was the key step that sorted things out.
Now I'm enjoying superlite bloatware free 8.1 oreo with LineageOS 15.1 on great 4 yrs old device.
And it works super smooth. Way better then original 4.4.2.
Now I'm being tempted to push the limits and try 9.0 Pie with LOS 16...
Whenever flashing a stock ROM with Odin, the stock ROM includes a bootloader and modem file.
