At a loss here, I have roughly 15gb of System files and 15gb of backup files from my Nexus 6. My Essential Phone randomly ran out of storage yesterday with those files being the only ones on it. There should have been roughly 90gb free. After freeing some space the launcher was no longer functioning, no notifications and the home/last apps buttons were not working. I was able to resolve launcher issues by formatting the data partition and setting back up again.
Now I'm up and running again, but I noticed earlier today my used space had expanded from 30gb to 70gb. After a few restarts it was back down to 30, but has started growing again to 40 now. The missing data always shows up in Other under Storage settings, but I've used other apps to verify nothing is consuming that space.
I'm rooted with Magisk 14.5 and TWRP on build NMJ51B. Anyone have any recommendations before I contact Essential Products?

Reverted to 14.3, I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks.
Known log file bug on 14.5, 14.3 has no such issue.

So before I do a factory reset was curious if there were other ideas. My device is complaining that the internal sd is full, but when I go to look at what is using the space only about 4gb I'd actually accounted for. Any ideas how to fix this?

What specifically is complaining?
If it's a particular app on the device complaining about full storage, then that may simply be a permissions issue. Especially if you're on Marshmallow which is a huge PITA with permissions.
Which is to better our security of course.

After I cleared the cache nothing complains any more. I just happened to notice that the numbers in the "Storage & USB" don't add up. The total if you add it up is 4gb, but the storage used shows 7.9.
I'm having the same issue. I have the 16gb model and it says that Android OS is 6.39gb leaving me with 9.61gb. It says I'm using 5gb but I only have a couple of apps and 1 game.. After I flashed my rom and installed all my stuff it wasn't 5gb... I used DiskUsage app and it says that 3024mb is being used as system data, but why would that be if there is 6.39gb for Android OS???

I still haven't found out why... just waiting for enough free time to factory reset.
Hello,
I have nothing something very interesting on my Moto X, but before that, a little story on my situation is in order. Almost a year ago, I had set up Adoptive Storage on my phone, because I liked the idea of having more app space (I wanted to install tons of games at the time). So, I set it up and continued to use my phone as normal. Fast forward to 5/16/2017. All the custom ROMs I had tried until that point didn't give me the performance I wanted. Apps would freeze, the phone would be choppy and laggy sporadically, etc etc. I was fed up with it, because, no matter what ROM I'd install, the same aforementioned issue would arise. My fed-up self decided to return to stock Marshmallow, so I followed the guide here, using the AutoFlashFirmwareScript section. Big mistake. It was too late. I had booted into my system, set everything up, and realized that my SD Card was giving an error saying that it isn't recognized by my phone. Of course it wouldn't, because I HAD SET IT UP AS INTERNAL! It would seem that all hope is lost....
However, I had just noticed something very peculiar. My phone was showing that it had 4.14 GB used out of 24.06 GB, but when I added up all the storage that each section took up (1.64 GB for apps, 24 KB for images, 8KB for videos, 40KB for audio, and 4.08 MB Other, as well as 21.5 MB Cached data), it didn't total the 4.14 GB that it was saying it was using. I also attached an image of what my file info looks like. Does this mean something?
I was reading this guide, and there seems to be a way to decrypt the External SD Card. Is this possible using a VM, since I don't have Linux on my computer?
Thanks in advance for any help!
You can only try to restore backup from google account(created before 5/16/2017).
Decrypt without key is impossible by home way.

That wouldn't bring back the music I had.
Is there any way to get the key? Also, what do you mean by "impossible by home way"?
Maybe Israel can help - like with Iphone.
Find any firm "restoring digital data".
Hi all,
I am using Moto g4 Plus with Resurrection Remix ROM - v5.8.4-20170824-athene-official for last two weeks. I love this ROM. There is only one issue I face which is forcing me to re-flash 2nd time in 2 weeks. The internal memory usage keeps growing and it fills up. I know it could be a rouge app. But I can not identify which.
My storage is encrypted as I use my corporate e-mail in outlook. Would that be a problem?
I used Titanium Backup Pro and moved all the high memory apps to SDCard (mounted as extended storage). Now the highest memory users listed in Storage is all google apps - but they dont add up to total.
Settings->Storage->Internal Memory says
28.59 GB out of 29.12 used.
Apps : 3.57 GB
System 4.26 GB
Cached data : 43.32 MB
When I installed the ROM and all apps from Titanium Pro back up it was only 15 GB. In a week it grew to fill the area. I did a clean installation again and it happened again.
Is there a tool/log where I can look for what is occupying the 28.59 GB and what keeps growing?
Thanks

Try fx file manager or any file manager, which will show you the usage stats and also created and modified date w/ it.
If not able to find out backup only app and not data from titanium backup.
See if the issue is resolved and check data(storage of per app using Apps2SD)
Apps2SD shows all the data consumed by a particular app w/each detail to wants.

Thanks. Apps2SD keeps crashing - so I couldnt use. FX file manager does not show much details other than SD card. I could see the same information with ES File Explorer with root explorer enabled. Unfortunately it looks like all the information the tool shows as recent file changes are in SD card and they are not much.
What is the mount path for internal storage - /data. Is there a way to see the largest files or recent changes with /data - may be I didnt use fx file manager with correct options.
Within last 2 hours the internal memory got filled up by another GB.

Ok, im not telling you that fx will show you all the details, but the file location and if permitted system info too. Which will clear that which folder have your data ie which app is doing this. Use some stats application for it(sry i dont know any).
But may you properly explain the process like just telling us int storage gets stock up w/o doing anything is bit not understandable.
I apologize as I sent the reply too soon without exploring all options in FX file manager.
I found the culprit. It was a folder related to power logger, which was taking up 21 GB. I deleted Ampere app (I assume it logs power usage) and the folder and I got 22 GB back.
Thanks a lot!

Only if Apps2SD has worked in your phone properly it would have been just a matter of time(like 10min is enough) to caught the culprit. Well good to see you have got your memory back[emoji6]
Hello, i'm new to the forums so i apologize if i shouldn't be posting this here, but i need help.
I have a Samsung Galaxy On7 with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. I was happy with the phone and liked everything it had to offer me, except for one critical flaw that is driving me nuts: IT'S STORAGE.
I started downloading my apps so i could transfer them to my 16Gb SD card, which i happily bought for the purpose of this new phone... But little did i know that simple storaging concept changed with Android Marshmallow (before this phone i've only used Lollipop and KitKat). Apps weren't automatically being placed in the SD card. Fine, i could move them myself anyway, right? But it only transferred about 10 or 15 Mbs... Useless. My phone was struggling after installing WhatsApp and Messenger just because i couldn't move them from the phone storage, and 5 out of 8 Gbs of phone storage were occupied by bloatware. I could just root it and delete those, but i use more than 8 Gbs anyway so i considered that option meaningless.
I naturally did research on what options i had to fix this. Tutorials listed an option which "merges" your SD card and use it as internal storage. Now God knows why Samsung decided to get rid of that option, i simply don't have it.
I figured i could install a Nougat ROM but i never installed a ROM before, and the fact that i have a Samsung might mean the problem still persists after that, so maybe i could just downgrade to Lollipop and problem solved. I just need to hear from someone it's going to work before trying it myself.
If there are more options i'd be more than happy to listen to them, i'm at the point where i can't update apps anymore, while i have 16 Gigs unused...
that's the sad thing about this device. it's internal storage is not much and it got some bloatware. I just stayed on minimal user installed apps. Also moving an app to sd card is reducing the apps performance.
Actually there's a solution for the merging SD storage with Internal storage problem. Although Samsung has disabled it there's a patch here in the Forum to bypass that.
Here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/patch-adoptable-storage-enabler-t3460478
I used it on mine and worked just fine.
One more thing. I actually opted for two solutions: (1) root and uninstall bloatware and (2) apply the patch through TWRP and merge the storages.
Good luck.

I highly recommend not doing it. I have rooted my Samsung on7 (G600FY) only to use this resource but it didn't work.
I could install the patch through TWRP but there were no options on Settings -> Storage -> Format SD as Internal. Only Portable Format was available. Then, after some searches I could do it with Root Essentials App, it did the trick but still all my apps were getting installed in the internal memory (even I did migration to SD), also it kept showing Full Storage messages like before (even tough there was more than 29gb free after the "merge").
Back to 0.
So is this topic is useless? It doesnt work?
If everyone tried and it still failed, why not closing this topic?
I was having same problem with this device. But now I have fixed it!
Before storage was 97% and I have only 2 apps: Mozilla FireFox and Samsung Max VPN.
And my all other apps and games were in SD card.
But now I have 88% storage (just reduced a good amount)
Its simple just open Settings > Applications > Applications Manager
Now pick those apps which you don't use them anymore. Like Chrome, Google Photos, Samsung Internet, GDrive, etc.
Select on those app and click on 3 dot > select "Uninstall Updates".
When you do this, the app will be uninstalled and replaced by factory version of app which is lower in size.
Just do these to apps like GDrive, GPhotos because you can access them on web too.
Hello, since a few days I have a message on the home page that tells me that my storage is full
I only have 12 applications installed for a total of 2.5gb, I emptied the cache of applications, but I have only 350mb of space left
So I have slowdowns and I can't install new apps
Any solution apart from resetting everything?
EDIT : since a while I lost 150mo I have only 200mo free even by emptying the cache, there is a problem
EDIT 2 : I lost another 50mo and nothing in the cache
Hi,
Had the same problem here. Deleting apps didnt help either.
Storage kept telling me i had several gigs of apps installed although i deleted everything.
I just now did a factory reset and space was recovered. fingers crossed.
I did all updates again abd instalkled all poreviously installed apps.
Also im on the beta firmware from Nvidia.
My thoughts are somewhere a program update messed things up ealier.
greets,
AJ
ok thanks, I think I'll have no choice but to do a reset
Still working here after the reset.
I think somewhere a program upodate messed something up earlier.
I made a post about this on reddit. 2017 shield, no Plex/Kodi etc. Started happening after the 9.0.1 update in May. Internal storage just slowly disappears (from 10 GB available/free to 150 mb). Factory reset is the only workaround - and yes I have checked every app including system apps, gallery, media, system upgrade apps etc etc. And this happens even If I use adoptable storage (which I don't need since my apps only consume about 0.93 GB and I don't need much free space - but this bug is horrible.
There are a few posts on reddit and a developer from nVidia that is interested in logs. Here is the most recent post.
