Hi.
I have a Eonon GA5161F car head unit running on Kit Kat.
It comes with a built in FM radio app which uses the cars aerial, but I would like to download a similar app that looks better than the stock app but am struggling to find one. Just want an FM app that uses the aerial and not data or wifi.
Also, what are the best apps to have on an android head unit?
Many thanks
I think it is not easy. I've been searching for a while... and nothing founded.
The radio app seems to be linked to the MCU. ANd I have not found anything generic ( for multiples MCUs).
If you find anything, please gice an advice
Thanks indeed!

Hi all,
I am currently looking to replace my car head unit on my mitsubishi lancer 2009 from stock to an android based unit.
I went thru a lot of thread and info in this forum and narrowed down my search to a few unit, but i'll be honest I am a bit overwhelmed with all the model and version available on top of all the information available.
can anyone help me figure the best option available ?
so far those model seem to be the most popular
Pumpkin Android 6.0

Erisin ES6041U or Erisin ES5646U

Ownice C500
ownice.com/Pro_Head%20Unit%20for%202din%20universal_449.html
is there one of those that really stand out from the others ?
would they all fit a standard double din ?
can I expect to run into any major issue setting this up in my car ?
bottomline, I am looking for a headunit I can use for radio, internet music like spotify, navigation like waze or google map and support for backing camera in america.
any help to figure out what is the best fit would be amazing.
Thanks a lot!
Erisin have very bad reviews, seems that their devices are quickly dying and they don't provide support and it seems that the FM reception is not that good. Joying are well supported but I read that the audio amplifier is not that good, Ownice and Pumpkin are popular but I do not know much (not sure about the components)
I like my C500 octacore 2GB so far. Very fast and everything I want is working fine.
All the apps I've tried so far are working great including the ones you mention above.
Good day! I bought from with a SWM A1 8227L hean unit from wish. I downloaded some different launchers for it and they work but I am not getting the radio icon to show up so I can use it. Won't come up and any of the launchers I tried except the stock launcher. I am thinking about getting another radio app for it anyways because this one only shows the station but will not show any info from the station such as station call ect.. Anyone have any ideas where I can get a decent radio tuner? Next radio will not work on the unit. Also has anyone ever rooted this unit? I haven't put it in my car yet but like to get it ready so I can slip it right in. Thanks!
Hi all,
Some time ago I found a thread on here that directed people how to reimage the head unit with an Android Auto. Is this possible for all head units, or are there things to watch out for? I tried searching but could not find the relevant info(Could be on me).
If I go into About Device of the Head Unit all it shows me RK3368 as name, no more info. All I can find is a thread how to update a headunit with the PX5 to Android 10, which it is already running. If possible I'd really like to flash Android Auto on it, as the current solution feels a bit like a bandaid solution.
Bump
Found some more info. It's a S32F0 MCU, with a PX5 board.
Still trying to figure out if it's MTCB or MTCD and if I can flash Android Auto on it. Any help would be appreciated

Okay so here is an obvious question - why on earth would you put Android Auto on a real Android device? Android Auto is a scaled down version of true Android with some "lite" functionality and support for some basic apps. Android Auto is for those who (for some reason) can't install a proper Android Head Unit.
To put it simply, you can do everything on your Android that you can on Android Auto but not the other way around.
You have S32F0 as MCU, meaning it's not MTCx. Luckily for you, you can still use the only mod that matters - Malaysk. Forget anything else. With Malaysk you can customize your head unit with nearly no limitations to make it fast, user friendly and overall just awesome.
Go to this thread and follow it's instructions.

Hi Ice,
Thank you for you answer!
My main reason is the ability to mirror screen. I don't have a 4G dongle attached to my radio, as that is quite expensive over here. So I was thinking to be able to use my own phone as mirror onto the radio to navigate, play spotify etcetera.
For example I can copy my phonebook to the head unit, unfortunately both me and my wife use the car, which causes a very long contact list with duplicates etc.
What I've seen with friends is that Android Auto fixes some of those issues, as you don't run a seperate instance of the phonebook or whatever, but it's a mirror from your phone.
I've seen Malaysk's post, but also read in the thread there are quite some issues and support is flaky at best. Are those posts stirring sh*t for no reason, or do they have a point?
Finally, the seller claims my headunit is real Android 10, with build number 205150. I cannot find anywhere if this is real Android 10, or the so called fake android 10.

Mirror screen functionality on Android Head Units is shaky at best.
You don't need 4G dongle - hotspot from your phone to give access to the Internet on your head unit - that way you can run any Android app on the head unit, Spotify, YouTube, Internet Radio etc etc. Make sure to give full permissions to your phone
Use BlueTooth on your phone to use handsfree calling. Use Google Voice to dial any number (no need to mess with Contact Books), your wife can do the same and your Android Head Unit will not sync contacts back to your phone
I know Malaysk developer as I'm also a Russian-speaker and his work is exemplary. If anything, his firmware is by far more stable and effective compared to anything you get from factory. People who complain about it, simply do not have the right skills of installing it and using it. Spend some time with Malaysk tutorials - well worth it. Malaysk also offers ROOT natively and Viper4Android which means you can tweak most parameters on your head unit and considerably improve the sound in your car.
Doesn't matter what Android version you have. You should go with Malaysk firmware for Android 9 (most stable). You will need to get a "rollback" software to successfully install it if your Android is anything but version 9. For that you'll need to purchase MOD Installer Pro 2 for €10
Whatever is possible to do your Android Head Unit will only be possible with Malaysk. If Malaysk can't support it, then it's simply not doable.
You can also look into "profiles" on your Head Unit. I.e one profile will have your stuff, and the other one will have your wife's.
I have a generic 9" Android Head Unit (K6_11_OH??) running Realdash app as a car dash board.
It works quite well using both of the USB ports for serial data (UART) and GPS input. Basically nothing else is required other than wifi to install head unit app
Main issue I have is the head unit re-assigns the USB COM ports each time it powers off and back on. This is annoying as I need to re-assign the dash app inputs every time I turn it of and back on.
Can anyone recommend a generic 9" head unit and chipset combo for the following: ??
- Easy to root
- Easy to customise ROM to strip unwanted apps and bloat
- Easy to customise Launcher / UI to remove (Dash app auto launches but not good if radio also tries to auto launch)
- USB ports enabled and easy to assign and access
- GPS
- Wifi
- 2GB RAM is sufficient
- No need for any other features that add cost such as high end music features (So relatively inexpensive)

There seems to be so many options, I don't want to make the same mistake and buy another one that is not well supported, which is why I asked here.
The one I have now has firmware with K6_11_OH and the last updates I could find was 28/06/2019 and it seems they we never very widely supported.
I had a head unit for my Mazda which is nice. I got it from Bestycar which has an SC7862 chipset which is great for normal music player but more advanced and does not seem as easy to customise and simplify like I want for the basic dashboard specific use for my project car.
So I assume one of the MTC units like a PX5 or PX6 chipset might be the best way to go now?
The dash has been built using a 9" unit this exact shape and I would rather keep this the same.

Don´t get your point...
You are searching for a good supported and quality head unit, right?
In this case you really should dive in at Joying for FYT units ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/fyt-android-head-units.12445/ ) or may be Klyde for CSN2/CSM4 units which are supported in this forum part.
At least you need to search for a unit specially for your car, or you need to search for a universal one with 2-DIN. Don´t ever buy a 1-DIN unit, as they all have severe issues with overheating if they are based on 6- or 8-core chipsets.
But by the way... the points you mentioned in your first posting... Sorry, but what do you expect to get?
I was expecting someone might say something like "UIS7862 head units seem to be the easiest to root hack and customise".
I don't actually want an expensive unit with heaps of great audio features as it is just a screen with 1 app and serial data feeds.
If I could get an Android tablet for 12V car use, with 2 x USB ports and completely raw Android ROM I'd be happy.
Hi guys, i have a Hizpo (Chinese) head unit with SC9863A with basic factory fw (details in screenshot). It is basically doing what it is supposed to do, however i cant find any way to get the traffic assist function to work.
FM Radio app is working, but when i want to listen to music player (or use navi or any other app), it will not interrupt it with traffic announcement from radio station. Unit of course has the TA function. The option is there in the radio app, looks like it is working, but in reality it is not.
I think that just the radio app isnt able to be shown on top of another app (music, navi...). However there is no such option in settings. Or maybe the fm radio app is just useless.
Is there any good app for my unit, which can replace original fm radio app? I have found the NavRadio app here, will that get the job done? Or maybe, is there any fw which i can use instead of the original one? I can imagine that the unit will work better with some better firmware.

This is not a FYT unit. I will request to have it moved to the general Android head units sub-forum
