I will be setting my new PH1 up soon
My plan was
Set up out of the box but not sync with any of my Google info apps
Make sure updates are downloaded and installed
Factory reset then set syncing with Google info.
Is this the best way ?
Doesn't matter. you have to think about this only for custom roms.

I am running CM5b4 and have noticed that the backup option even though enabled does not backup any of my settings or apps after a wipe. Is this feature disabled in custom roms? Is there something I'm missing that does not allow a proper sync? Picasa, gmail, calender, etc...all sync properly. Thanks in advance XDA!

It doesn't actually back up your apps...just the record of what apps you had. It does backup your bookmarks and settings to the cloud, however. Upon booting after a wipe, it should automatically sync your settings, bookmarks, and download your apps from the Market if you have a data connection.
Thanks. The market list did show up with both free/paid apps but after a few minutes only the paid apps remained and non downloaded automatically. As to settings and bookmarks they never reappeared. I had a 3g connection the whole time. Would flashing the stock rom before cm5b4 or possibly formatting the SD card be a possible fix for my issue or would it not matter since its only supposed to sync with Google's servers? Any suggestions are welcome.
You're gonna have to wait for someone else to answer that... I'm unrooted.
I'm on cyanogenMod 5.0 b4. I can check. I don't know where that "backup my settings" thing is, though. Where can I find that?
It's located under Settings>Privacy>Bacup Up My Settings...I found that when I flashed back to the shipping rom (stock) ER79 the feature worked fine, but when flashing to cm5b4 it stopped working again.
perhaps you can check:
settings --> Privacy
took me long enough time to figure that out

Yes. You flashed back to stock, and I assume you didn't load any apps, so Google's last record of your system was one without any apps, hence they're off the list.
I really hope someone can tell me how to get that option back, it's not in the MidNIGHT ROM. (I'm on an Epic)
I know its an old thread but I didn't want to open a new one.
Is there a website I can visit to see what's backed up for which devices under my accounts. I have 4 android devices, I'm curious whats up all in there, as seemingly this process does work, but sometimes not 100%

that is the most extensive look at your data that I know of. the only thing it shows with regard to Android is your IMEI number for your devices. maybe poke around and see if you can find more stuff.
Hello guys
I've been trying few builds of android and install apps from the market.
When switching to a new build, I link my phone with a googlemail account so all the contacts are restored.
Unfortunately also ALL the apps are sync, downloded and installed aswell from the market, without asking me anything. I do not want this to happen.
This happen everytime, no matter whichever build I was using.
Searched first in google, then in xda but didn't find anything. Does it happen only to me? xD
has anyone got a solution?
thx
I don't know how to get rid of this problem, but it's normal, so you're not the only one. The apps you have downloaded in the market are safed in your google account, because some people have purchased apps and don't want to buy them again..
ok
fair enough then.. cheers
Hmm.. Maybe there is a solution. I never tried, but it may work.
After setting up your phone (the first thing you have to do when you boot a new build) go at first to settings > Accounts & synchronization. Sorry dunno how it's spelled in Englisch, using my phone in German There go to your Google Account and remove the ticks at contacts, mail and calendar. Then go to your market and accept the license agreement.
It could be that the market now doesn't install your apps because you don't sync your google account anymore. But if you're using this account for mail and so on this is no option, will see if I find another possibility.
Edit: Found another solution that worked for other users. In a German forum they told you have to skip the setup at the beginning, go directly to settings > SD-Card & Telephone Memory (something like that) and do a factory reset. Then boot again and the market won't install anything. If this doesn't work try to set up your phone at the beginning and do a factory reset then.
That's all I've found. Now I'm out. Tell me if it worked
Cheers

I realised that it only installs the programs that you had installed in the last build.
Therefore all the apps I removed won't sync..
I probably had a bug in my last build that blocked google to complete sync.. damn xD
However my internet is not that fast as I live in the middle of farms & field, so I'm gonna download all the .apk from internet; then I will put them in the folder Android Apps and the new build just install them on the first boot.
But thanks for your research, I may use it later on.. you never know.
Cheers

turn off Google backup, in settings as well as when FIRST setting up Android after hitting the Android on the first screen. One of the few first things is Google Backup, for apps and bookmarks. Disable this.
I spent the last couple of days setting up my new phone exactly as I want it, installed lag fix, rooted it, installed all of the apps I needed and am good to go.
Thing is, I used a Gmail account that I don't want to use any more, as I also have a Google Apps account, which has all of my contacts. The Gmail one is just confusing everything.
I have tried removing the Gmail account with the whole 'manage accounts' routine but it doesn't seem to work with Froyo.
The next thing is a factory reset which I am very reluctant to do. I dont want to lose all the rooting, performance fix settings, nor do I want to sit here installing and configuring everything from the beginning.
Would using Titanium backup help if I did a factory restore, or will it just restore the Google account that I want removed?
Anybody?

Pretty sure this could be found quicker if you'd have just done a quick search here or on Google.
Anyway, menu-settings-applications-manage applications-all-gmail-clear data. If that doesn't work try google services framework from that same menu.
Having HTC Wildfire and now want to change Default gmail account being used by all app, mostly Gtalk. I have 5 Gmail accounts on my cell and want to switch between.
The only way i see is to Factory reset phone. By this i guess i will loose all paid apps !
Is there anyone who can help me out without getting my phone Factory Reset !!
Any help will b greatly appreciated !~~
If I understand you correctly you want to delete some of yours accounts and change them...you can do this: go to your mail..press menu..more...Account list-here you can change your accounts
And if you want to delete them...when you change your account go again : mail..press menu..more...settings..at the end you have delete account.
Hope I halp...
Cheers
Oh yea if I halp click thanks.
I had this problem. Accidently signed in to a Gmail account that wasn't my main one, and it was locked to that as primary I'm sure there is something in the system you could delete to revoke the linked account, but the easiest way is to just do a factory reset and/or reflash the ROM.
No you won't lose paid apps, unless you did something silly and bought apps on more than one Google account! Purchases are always locked to that specific gmail address, wiping the phone doesn't matter as soon as u login to market you'll see all the Purchased Items in there, ready to download.
Edit: give me 24 hours, ill see if I can find a way to do it via ADB/DroidExplorer.

i have this build since 1 month now, and i love it!
but now i want to change the google-accounts (the new account is from my domain using google apps)
i googled around a little but, but didn't found a solution
is there any way to get into a "first boot"-state, so i can set my new google-account?
another question is: is there any way to merge apps between 2 google-accounts. afaik the apps from the market are bound to the account.
hopefully my english skills were good enough to describe my problem.
greetings
havox
is there anything missing in my description to solve my problem?
or is it impossible with CM7?
How about:
Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Add Account ?

Hi,
Have you tried :Settings>accounts and sync>google>remove account?
Or apps>setup?
ok - thanks for the answers
but it's not working :/
i tried the "remove account" in account and sync, but there is a message that i have to set back the phone to factory setting. (under point "privacy")
but this doesn't work. i can push the button "delete everything" - but nothing happens ...
@malybru: what do you mean with "apps>setup". i suppose i found it, but what i have to do there? there are listed all apps, right?

Hi,
It may just be on my ROM,but I've got an app called "setup".
I suppose it's the one that runs when you first run a ROM ,and you can install your google details and wi-fi etc.
I realize this thread is nearly 1 year old, but I'd like to add something here that I know works.
I had to merge my two gmail accounts and by chance, I found that this approach worked.
Go to settings and apps for Google Play, clear the cache, force stop and uninstall updates. Go back into Google Play. You'll have to click on Accept on their T&C, then click on Menu to see accounts... select the account the app is in that you want to move to the other account. Uninstall it. Menu, Select 2nd account you want to move app to, then install.
If you don't want to lose the cached data, well, guess you're out of luck. The above was the only way I was able to move over my apps from one gmail to another gmail account.
