First time caller, long time listener
I have a problem. I had my best man speech written in Samsung notes on my SM-G950F Exynos
I had the phone flashed with Batstock which had been working perfectly for months no bugs that i noticed.
So I changed network provider to EE in the UK. When I inserted the new sim it said "New sim inserted please factory reset phone"(why the hell would it require this?). So because it was just a notification I kept swiping it away and ignoring it with the intention of re flashing the rom soon.
Then disaster struck, the phone just started boot looping. I put the phone into Twrp and copied all the files from internal storage(I enabled show hidden files incase that would help) onto my PC
So Then I reflashed the rom which seems to be working fine and I copied all the files back over but the Samsung notes app is empty.
1. Is it possible to get these notes back? I have looked in \Android\data\com.samsung.android.app.notes\files\ but just has a .nomedia file
2. Why has Samsung made Notes and memos(on previous models) so hard to locate? It doesn't make any sense to me.
I'm going to run a data recovery program or two and see how I get on but any help would be wildly appreciated the thought of losing that speech is killing me thanks.

Hey everyone, I'm an idiot and completely forgot I encrypted the files on my SD Card. I installed a new ROM and now the images I previously had on the memory card are not able to be read by any software and the phone. My guess is, is that the encryption I had prior to flashing the new ROM has encrypted the file to where I can't even view them. Is there anyway to reverse this process? I know it defeats the whole prupose of encryption, but these pictures are important to me since they were pictures of my nephews at my cousin's wedding. I know they wouldn't be the greatest quality images, but I would still love to have them back. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated

Well, I have a feeling that you are out of luck here. Usually, encryption works with two keys: one at the source and one with the application that did the encryption. These keys are randomly generated. Since you wiped out the original ROM (and the encryption program and (probably) the 2nd key along with it), you are probably screwed. Sorry - wish I had better news. Now, there are special programs and stuff that break cryptography, and I don't know how secure the encryption with WM is, but that is probably not a practical solution. Sorry.

This is by design. The unique encription key is created during cold boot following a hardreset.

I almost did this with data on a PC which I sold last week. Copied files and tried opening them on my laptop. Luckily I still had the PC to unencrypt my FLICKS...LOL
Oops, that just reminds me I had an encrypted NTFS folder on the PC I upgraded to Vista last week (clean install). Usually never use that thing...
Meh, fortunately it was only an outdated copy of a folder I have on the main PC. But yeah, haven't even checked it, but there won't be any chance there either.
Fortunately I didn't encrypt my SD, as my phone now will just hang upon boot after I installed some program that screws up when loading the Today plugin. Hard reset in the way I guess... is there no safe boot in WM6?

I think is crazy. began a few days ago would put a backup made of CWM. made it 10-20 times before, but now the fun starts all goes as normal until the "sys" folder should be written as saying "telefonhel ** tet" is not possible to write "sys" folder .... then freezes the whole phone. going to start but stops at the first botbilden. must then put the phone in download mode, the drive into new ics via odin. Unless otherwise works to move up. do I add something else I'll just when to choose the Language for which locks up the phone. Does anyone know what happened, there may have been something wrong with your memory card or what??????
(when I've added new ics and rooted it, put in tx new rocketrom so the phone works as normal. tried to make a backup of CMW is Axa excellent. but cure me and trying to put it back so obvious the same thing happens.)

I got the Galaxy S4 i9500 with the stock firmware (build number JDQ39.I9500XXUAMDK) running Jelly Bean 4.2.2. I don't know what's the region but I bought it in the US if it helps.
I got a few problems/things I wanna do:
1. I want to change my stock rom to I9500XXUAMDE (ILO region) because my original rom doesn't support Hebrew menus.
I found a link to a file but I can't post it cuz i'm new. Its name is "Samsung-Updates.com-GT-I9500-ILO-I9500XXUAMDE-1365755329.zip"
For some reason I can't download the file from hotfile... just when the download is about to finish, the download stops
I tried downloading on 2 different computers in my house, both trying with firefox and explorer browsers (every attempt took about 2 hours to "complete" its exhausting!!!!) - could someone download it and upload it as a torrent link or provide some other way to help me?
2. I want to root the device while still leaving the stock recovery and rom, first of all - should I do it before or after putting the new rom?
and second - is it still possible to update the firmware after rooting?
3. Sometimes my phone decides to lose its reception - the circle with the line crossing it doesn't show up, just the reception triangle in the top becomes empty (with no lines) and the data network symbol disappears for a few seconds. How do I stop it from happening?
4. I bought a new 32GB sdhc class 10 card (Kingston) and I can't change anything in it unless I connect the phone to my PC with the card inserted. I put the card in a different phone (i9000) and I didn't have any problems with writing there. What can I do to make the card writable, and by the way... after rooting my s4 I can move apps from the internal SD to the external one right?

I've just joined and am uncertain of the proper place for this thread. Apologies if inaccurately posted.
I have the T337A, which I have rooted on ANF4, but I cannot find a recovery. I have read and read but am not finding the solution to my little project. I would like to get a safestrap on this locked bootloader so that I can install and learn to write custom ROMs. I have tried a safestrap but it was not for this specific device and did not work. I have also installed and purchased CWM Recovery and TWRP Recovery, in my learning process. The problem with the recovery is that there is no custom recovery written for this device and the bootloader is locked, as this is the AT&T WiFi/LTE version. So it looks to me like I need to figure out the partitioning image somehow in order to make a safestrap work on this device...as step 1. Is there anything else that I can do with this locked bootloader? I would love to have some help in writing a custom recovery and ROM for this device but I am a tiny tiny noob here and not a hard core programmer. If I could get some feedback on places to start for such a daunting task, it would be great. I guess one thing that I do not understand is why I cannot make my current rooted ROM the default recovery in TWRP. It asks me to choose from the list of supported devices. I understand that it goes: NAND --> aboot.img/bootloader --> recovery/or/kernel --> OS/or/ROM? If this is close to accurate then I would have to write something to the NAND?, which I'm not sure what is yet, in order to hijack the factory bootloader and then write the partitions on the sdCard for the ROM, like the safestrap folks wrote? It looks to me like they also included a version of TWRP touch which I used on the S4 yesterday and was really cool, so I guess that would be needed as well and is also why TWRP does not work for me now...it cannot hijack the locked bootloader. How do I hijack this hard headed thing? fastboot does not work to this device. In the process of this project, I have also run into a roadblock trying to update the /system/framework/framework-res.apk, in the manner that a flash needs to be done, I think. I want to change the /res/values/bools/bools.xml switch "voice_capeable" to true. AT&T or Samsung disable this on this version of the tablet, I guess to sell tethering or something else I'm not familiar with...but the way it looks to me, everything is configured on the device and I have a phone number provisioned for data at least. Why can't I turn on this switch and use the phone portion of the device? Any time I tickle the running framework-res.apk, it kills the OS. I tried compiling an update.zip aligned and signed with test keys or something like that but when I flash it, it fails with wrong footer and invalid signature...then it wipes me back to the stone ages. I warned I was a noob..! ...but not scared to brick some shtuff in order to learn this and write some custom solutions. An after thought...is there a solution for a bootable extSdCard for Android? This might lead to some options if it is possible.

We had a dev working to get safestrap, but he struck out. So if you can get it, I'll test. I too have the 337a. Sucks to have a locked bootloader and no dev interest.

Thanks pre4speed. I am taking a look at the two tasks again tonight and decided to take the res/bool = voice_capable issue on first since this will determine how brickable this device can be for me. If I can use it as a regular modem phone then I might be a bit more careful with the bootloader project I did some more tinkering with the framework-res.apk ...specifically the /res/values/bools/bools.xml resource and tried the following:

Busybox
Froze AT&T update service and others involved
Titanium backup and pulled a good backup
Online Nandroid and pulled a good backup
Installed my XDA app. of course..!

Framework-res.apk:
Used total commander to copy the running apk off to the sdCard and then my PC.
Decompilled in APKStudio2.0.3b-Windows (I am also using Ubuntu 14.04 if there is a better way here..also Android Studio on both OS...just learning).
Edited my value.
Recompiled with zip align/sign option.

The random article I dug up said that in order to get past the wrong footer and signature issue, and stone-age wipe, when attempting this via abd sideload with an update.zip, is to now copy the edited file back into the original APK using 7zip in order to retain the original signing keys. When I open the original APK archive, it does not show the resource folders deemed "important and I should not jack with them" in the compiled APK (mainly values/* folder). The article mentioned the resource folders such as res/values/bools are compiled and hidden and that I needed to copy over the new resources.arsc file. I see this in the newly compiled APK I made but it also put the Manifest.xml and /res folder in there. Do I need to copy all of that or just the compiled resources.arsc file? I did all and it boot looped me so I'm guessing that I either did something wrong or this was not the right answer. The last part was to chmod the new APK, use total commander to mount the folder as rw, copy over the file, and reboot. All of that worked and I had to reboot many many times...loop.
That is where I am on the modem part and am going to attempt copying just the resources.arsc in a few. I will post more on the bootloader side soon, as I've been researching what goes on from the time I push the power button until the time I swipe the first screen. Lots of reading

Stalled out temporarily on the tab project as laptop hard drive bought the farm. Back in action and made some progress on the tab voice_capable issue. Everything appears to be there and in working order but the SMS modules. I think this has something to do with why the contacts app is blowing up but not sure yet. GoSMS and EXDialer seem to work together without blowing up but the dialer taps the modem and then dies. Taking a break from this to start a thread on rooting the AT&T Alpha. I'm about half way through the exploit on that project. Any input on what might be my SMS problem on the tab 4 would be appreciated. Attached are a few screens.
Does anyone know how to removed the caution sign on the left corner it keep telling me unauthorized action have been detected.

so did you finally get it going or what?I have been wanting to get my Tab going as well. I've Rooted it and paid for an unlock even, which worked fantastic by the way...Thanx XDA!!! The rooting guide I got from here was right on point,no problem at all!!But anyways, I have it on metro pcs now on the unlimited $60 plan which is awesome (.REAL unlimited internet with NO THROTTLING ) for me because now at home I run pda.net, which gives me very good, fulltime, internet for my home computers as well as the ability to stream everything onto a large screen or even via windows when we want to watch with all the bells and whistles! No lag at all usually,and I don't use my hotspot because of the usb internet connect on pda.net. When I do use the wireless connect, it doesn't take any of the allotted hotspot usage up either!!All in all it's a great deal for me. I just got a new sim for it, called in the imei to metro ,which in turn gave me a phone number and data account, and presto!Been on the net ever since! Now that I've had it for over a month ,I wanna get the voice capability to work as well, being that I am paying for 2 lines now. Although I can use the old trusty hangouts dialer with the GoogleVoice easily enough. I want to be able to use my metro number mainly because these phone companies charge and charge and charge, never caring about us,or our need to have communication at our disposal at all times.Cell phones are by far not inexpensive and the internet wasn't started for us to pay aan arm and a leg to use.Anytime I come out good while dealing with a wireless company. it's a stupendous event,I'm telling you!! Heck ,I'm writing from my home computer now, going through the Tab at this very moment! Nevertheless, I'm wanting for the devs, to come through as well. Here's a short version of where I'm at: after installing Wondershare' s dr.phone Recovery on my mom's PC and using it on her phone:
its screen won't respond to touch (can't enter SIM card's PIN nor open screen lock)
the On/Off button won't turn off the phone on long press (maybe due to screen lock)
on restart there's a yellow text that reads "Set Warranty Bit : kernel"
the physical buttons still work
I can see the phone's files and folders only through PC's command prompt, using ADB ('This PC\Galaxy Grand Prime' folder in Win Explorer says it's empty).
Ideally I want to keep her data (FB Messenger, Skype, Chrome, WiFi passwords, etc), and her phone to function again. What do you think I should do?
I think I need an advice and suggestions from someone more experienced than me - I don't even know trusted sites where to download the firmware roms from.
The phone's details are (I'm afraid you'll have to walk me through to get more details to this list, as I'm new to the forum):

Now in detail:
My knowledge and experience regarding the smartphone software & restoration is very basic (I've only restored the firmware to a LG-L70 once some years ago, and that's it).
Before the problem I lost some over 600 media files from that phone by Cutting and Pasting a folder from phone's internal SD to PC's disc. Now I learned never to Cut-Paste important or irreplaceable files. The files ended up on the phone, because a folder with over 800 files couldn't be uploaded to the Google Drive (the camera's folder had over 1k files in it, so I moved some of them to another folder, which the phone created on the internal partition rather than the SD Card, where the original folder was from).
Instead of using a trusted software, I foolishly Googled a photo recovery program for phones, using my mom's PC. A list of bogus recovery program sites appeared (had to look them up on her PC, as I found only legit, widely trusted programs now, using my laptop. Those darn Google's personalized search result algorithms!).
Before using the dr.fone Recovery software I synced most of the data to her account.
Used the "free" dr.fone Recovery software as per its site's instructions, the phone did a restart and the touchscreen went unresponsive to touch. Later the software showed the lost files it found, and offered to restore them for a sum. Naturally I declined.
The software said that to return the phone to normal I need to disconnect the USB cable. I did so, but the phone's screen remained unresponsive to touch, even after restart (long-press [Pow] + [Vol-]).
I tried connecting an USB mouse via the dongle, but the mouse cursor didn't appear (maybe this phone doesn't have this functionality).
Now, after using that FAIL-covery program, I was overly cautious not to make things even worse.
I wanted to make a copy of the phone's internal SD state (or is it called a phone's hard drive?), to get the media files from the clone and to have a backup of mom's files.
But I failed: I downloaded APK, ncat, KingoRoot and BusyBox. Tried to follow the steps in this video: youtu[dot]be/KKkvkCgMeMA. Got stuck at "busybox not found" at about 10:27 mark in that video ("dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0" "busybox nc -l -p 8888"). Turns out you need to run some of the apps from that phone prior to that step, and I don't know any workarounds.
Then I remembered that the files were on the external SD in the first place. Well duh! I then connected the Micro SD card to PC's reader via a Micro SD adapter. To make a copy of the SD card's 1s & 0s, and to restore the media files from said copy I used ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery) z-a-recovery[dot]com/. The backup creation (an .ISO file or some such) and media recovery are free of charge.
Now I only need to remove duplicates and blurry pics (I think I had a Moleskinsoft's Clone Remover from an old PC magazine's CD lying around somewhere for the latter). Oh, and I better not forget to run a malware scanner on her PC and remove the mr.fone installed services and folders from it. Went a bit off-topic here, sorry!
Last I pulled a wifi passwords file with "adb pull /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf" command as per instructions on this page: mashtips[dot]com/see-wifi-password-android/. I don't know whether putting the file back on that phone will do the trick or not.
That's pretty much all.

Edit 30 Jan '19: Got the phone working. Accessed the phone with a Chrome browser extension (name here). All accounts except some mail account were gone. WiFi didn't work.
Found a stock ROM here: (address here).
Found the Odin3 tool here: (address here). It came with a different locale ROM.
Flashed the 1st ROM with Odin. The screen started to work.
Flashed the 1st ROM with Odin again. The WiFi started working.
I'll update this with links soon.

I've got the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime after using Dr Fone, like you. I contacted Wondershare website from which I downloaded the app but they haven't bothered replying. Not happy at all!!
I contacted Samsung's support team and after trying different things (the usual stuff: reboot; remove the battery and SIM card; restart in Safe Mode; etc) which didn't solve the problem, they ended up telling me to reset the phone to the factory settings but that didn't work either.
Now my phone is stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Welcome screen which asks me to choose the language I want on my phone. The touchscreen is still unresponsive.
How did you manage to fix the problem if the touchscreen was unresponsive?
