SMS & MMS data plan? Which SIM? - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

I've not had a dual SIM phone and am wondering if SMS/MMS from both lines will come over the data plan from just one SIM card or if both SIM cards must have a data plan. Anyone know?
I've searched and can't find an answer - maybe I'm not using good search terms for this.
Thanks!

[Q] invalid sim card problem

just got my lg c900 today from ebay, and when i insert my att sim card, it says "invalid sim card"...
But I have been using this sim card on other devices, like nokia 2710 and my touch 3g and they work fine!!
So i tried someone else's sim card(Att), it works too!!!
What should i do.....
You need to unlock the phone to use with other carrier. There are a lot of unlocking services that can help you to unlock it.
Aha!
I had the exact same 'problem' and freakou... er... reaction.
You have to activate a plan on the SIM card. Only then will it stop giving you the INVALID SIM message at startup.

Jesus! Is there no other way out? I didn't buy it from AT&T and don't want to pay for the data plan....
can i just don't make a data plan but just enable the data connection?
If you want to use the phone or Data (excluding Wifi) functions of the phone, you'll need to have some sort of plan or prepaid account associated with the SIM card.
It doesn't mean you have to pay the 'Smartphone' package that AT&T offers (forces) when you get the phone on a contract. You don't even need to have a plan at all! You just need to activate an account online.
Thanks, but actually this is not my contract phone. I bought it from someone else. In my current contract my device is a basic phone, but I enable the data connection function(pay per usage).
But it's still not working...what a wp7....
what do you mean by activating an account online? I already got my account.
Well, on Telus, you just had to activate a phone by entering the SIM number (it's on the little card you received with the SIM or sometimes on the SIM itself) in the 'Activate your Phone' wizard.
Problem fixed!!!!
I call the ATT customer service and they update my sim card information. now it works!!!
Excellent to hear! I'm glad your problem got fixed

How to assign specific number to be always called from 2nd SIM?

Hi Guys,
A new guy here. As per subject, I have a hybrid dual sim version of the S7 Edge.
In the SIM card manager you can select a "preferred" SIM card for voice/text/data calls, or set the phone to "always ask".
As I'm using a 2nd SIM card to call only 3 of my 500+ contacts I'd like to have the SIM 1 as preferred for everything, but somehow assign those 3 numbers to the 2nd SIM, so when I make a call it ALWAYS calls from SIM 2.
Is that possible?
Kind regards
Paul
Anyone..? I'm having same trouble...
Bump..
I've not seen a method to do this on the S5/6/7 Dual sim phones

1. SIM for mobile data and 2. SIM for calling?

Hi guys,
like the title says I want to use 1 SIM only for mobile data and the other SIM only for calling. I know there are settings for this and that this is possible but I want to know if I can use the "mobile data SIM" in LTE mode while receiving normal calls using the other SIM?
Is it even possible to use a mobile data only SIM in this phone? (just to be sure )
Did someone have experience with usage like this?
Thanks!

If you would have played with the settings first then you wouldn't have had asked this.
Anyway, you can choose preferred Sim for Data, Sms and Call. You may choose same sim for all 3 or 2 different as per your choice.
Whichever Sim you chose for Data will always allow you to choose from different network types like 4G/3G/2G but the 2nd sim(2nd sim in the sense the another sim, you have have chosen sim in 2nd slot for data, so in that case the sim in 1st slot) will always be on 2G. You won't be able to change that.
And I am sure you wanted to know exactly this.
And it's upto you for what purpose you use the sim.
1 use 1 sim only for data. Talk time on that is always 0. And another for call and sms.
The Sim I use for data is PrePaid and the other one a PostPaid. Just in case you had this confusion.
If you have any other confusion feel free to ask.

Yeah, thanks! I had no second Sim to test it, that's why I asked.

Oh! My bad. Didn't thought that could be a possibility too.
Feel free to ask any dual sim related issue/confusion. Will try my best to help.
Yes it works and you can put them in either SIM slot. Both slots are LTE capable and it works in both configurations. Just make sure the network options are set to "LTE/4G preferred" as they might not be by default, on the data SIM.

Data with 2 sim ?

Hello,
i hesitate to take a second sim, but my interest is not to call but to have data.
Do you know if i can use data with sim 1 and sim 2 in same time, or the sim 2 is just to have another phone number and not specialize for data.
I have search, and it seems tha the sim 2 is not in LTE for the data but only GPRS/EDGE, that does not really interest me, does someone has test that ?
Thanks

4G Data works on both SIMS! The SIM where data is enabled will automatically switch to 4g/3g/2g and the other SIM will revert to 3G/2G. There is no restriction on where you wanna use 4G.
This is same with most of dual SIM phones as of now.
Thanks for the explication.

Are you sure about that? Because I need to buy for data also, and on G3 Dual SIM, 4G was only on SIM1, 2G on SIM2 always

Yes. 100% . But why buy G6 Now. ?? No Oreo update yet for India.!!

Dual sim question I can't seem to find an answer to.

Basically, I'm grandfathered in on a great plan with only a gig of data. I'm also grandfathered in with another company for unlimited data, no voice service.
Is it possible to use one sim for calling and the other for data. And when I get into areas not covered by the unlimited data sim switch over to the first sim with better coverage?
Thanks for any advice.
You should be able to set the first Sim for voice calling and the second sim for mobile data from settings, connections, dual sim
Yes!
I used my Vodafone sim for data and everything else goes through my EE sim.
Once you have the second sim in, slide down from the top and you'll see options for SIM1 and SIM2
