bootloop lgg6 - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Had a bootloop today on my phone lgg6 Australian version. It was charging and over heated then would go to the LG logo and keep rebooting then it went to a yellowish screen with a whole heap of code about the battery. I pulled the phone appart to see if I could find anything wrong. And to my astonishment the heatsink paste was dried up and powdered. Cleaned it up replaced the thermal paste put it back together and works great. Also noticed doesn't get as got especially when charging. Hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else. I noticed also in the last two weeks it's been sluggish and dozer a few times also rebooted once.

Any proof?Any pictures/videos about that?I just can't believe in this-
"heatsink paste was dried up and powdered,Cleaned it up replaced the thermal paste put it back together and works great".Looks like a bull**** for me,honestly.

Um your a moron why would I say it do ****

This is what happened

Then it bootlooped. Seriously I was trying to be helpful. Some people.

I'm not saying you're a troll,i just wanted to see a proof of that,ok?And that means i am a moron?

We'll learn to try not to be insulting.

And I didn't get any pictures of the heat sink paste but it was a pink powdery substance that wiped off when I touched it. Haven't had a good run with phones lately my Nexus 6p bootlooped and can't be repaired and now my lgg6 did and could be which I thought was pretty awesome. Considering the last LG phone I owned was a lgg2 which was pretty easy to work on also. I won't be buying another Huawei phone ever again that's for sure. I have owned every Nexus since the first one and they have all been great for what they are. I wouldn't mind buying a LG v30 as I didn't realise I couldn't unlock the bootloader when I bought this.

Hi
Just to say that same issue just happened couple of minutes ago... I didn't know G6 could run this bootloop problem. I had this issue with my old G4, now the G6...
I think I'll say ciao to LG even if I really like their product!

The phone is almost a year old now. Have you ever heard of a bootloop case? I'm pretty sure if there were problems like G3/G4 had, we'd knew already. Fortunately, the g6 is a sturdy device, both software and hardware, and it takes a lot of heavy usage every day. Not to mention flashing and testing custom roms almost daily,

This happened to my phone out of the blue last night. Kept on alternating between black screen and the lg logo. Did the reset, power button and volume down but that just gave me the same yellow screen. Charged in I could get the looping, unplugged with would just go black then back to yellow if I tried to reset or selected reboot. Then it just went dead despite having approx 50% battery. Unfortunately I bought it from eglobal about 10 months ago so I'm not holding out much hope for a successful warranty claim.
Thanks for the info above, there seems to be very little about this issue out there so at least I hae something to try.

Hermes parts, or brick wanted

Hi all, its been a long time since Ive posted, but I recently killed my almost 3 yr old TyTN by leaving it in my pocket while sand blasting, Ive since replaced it with a TyTN II, but was hoping maybe I could refurb it, and give it to a family member.
Initially about 6 months ago it got a light blue tint, after I tossed it onto the floor irritated from a lagging pocket IE, but when the sand got to it, it was gritty sliding it open the first time to clean it, and even after cleaning, a few days later the screen started randomly turning white, and then finally stayed that way.
Im unsure if its the ribbon cable or what, it looks pretty good still, and Ive taken the phone apart and tried to get it to work with just a board, cable, and screen, but no luck. When I plug the phone in to a pc, AS still comes up, and it would even white screen while I was talking on it, and still worked, so I think the main board is still ok.
I was just curious of anyone happened to have an old bricked unit laying around, or a bulk of parts for a decent price, it looks like buying the parts individually would cost more than just a new refurb.
The phone has actually been a pretty rugged, took lots of abuse over the yrs, and kept ticking.
Thanks,
Dru
Edit: Hopefully I havent stuck this in the wrong spot, I just noticed the marketplace section. Its been a long week, move it if need be.
brick
hi.i sent you private message.i have a bricked hermes.

Resurrection of a Slide

Not really sure if this will help anyone but just wanted to share. A month ago my wife came home from work with her Slide dead as a doornail. Would not get passed the boot screen. It was the one handset in the house that hasn't been rooted. After wiping time after time I finally gave up and went to the T-Mobile I used to work at. It seems they have had quiet a few of them doing this with no reason at all. I decided it was just a bad unit. Since there was no warranty on it I decided to open it up a few weeks later just to take a look. Aside from some pocket lint, I saw no issues. I brushed of the board with a soft bristled tooth brush. After assembly, low and behold she went straight on through th boot up process with no issues. I talked to a Buddy who had the same issue with one he was working on. Same story. Brushed of the minuscule amount of crud and came back to life. Is it possible that we have gotten our electronics so small now that even pocket lint can jack your phone up? Like I said don't know anything but what I saw, but you never know.

My take on Nexus 5X bootloop, crazy possible fix

Ok guys maybe will work for your or not if u are reading this means that also u know what bootloop is. I am aware of the "new" way of fixing this by using only 4 cores instead of 6, well for me did not work so well. After a lot of scratching swears and other stuff i realized that actually this is a hardware problem, and i need to look at it as such.
01.So in the beginning i did try the oven charm, well was good for few hours... but after a short time it started to randomly reboot, specially after i was charging the phone(or getting intensive with it). (but not bootloop)
02. Second time i did use a strong hairdryer, to be more friendly, same thing few hours after it started with the random reboots. (but not bootloop)
so
03. i am suspecting that the problem starts from the snapdragon chipset, maybe a slow connection, so i added some pressure to the chip by adding some aluminum foil on top of it. Till now like this is working proper
CZ: So the main thing is: Because i set pressure on the Snapdragon chipset now my phone works again ^_^
IF situation changes i will let you know, but until now for me was the only way to fix this. (and believe me i did try all the software ways)
Later edit: almost two days since the massage and is rocking ^_^ jaja
I did that too, it worked for 2 or 3 days, then started to fall again.
If you want a permanent fix for your 5X you'll have to get the SoC re-soldered like these guys here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/4gb-ram-upgraded-nexus-5x-t3588743
Third day for me still working
Got a free replacement mother board from LG in India
I had a bootloop problem last week after upgrading to 8.0.0 through the beta route. Phone was manufactured in 2015 and bought by me in Apr 2016. Hence, it was out of warranty. The phone was bought through the Google store. Initially, it was completely dead. Maybe through bootlooping it exhausted the battery. Anyway I charged it for several hours and then put it in the freezer for 2 hours. It started and went into bootloop. I could get it to go to bootloader mode and recovery mode. I then rang up Google support and after two phone calls and discussion on chat they sent me an email which said that I should contact LG in New Delhi, India where I am located. Yesterday I visited LG repair center. They without any demurring or hesitation agreed to replace the motherboard. They only wanted to see the invoice and despite it being out of warranty they are replacing the motherboard. I asked the executive why I should trust a new motherboard as many people have reported problems after getting a replacement. He said, and I cannot confirm the veracity, that the there are some changes in the new motherboard and it should not go into bootloop. I will only know once I get the phone back next week and run it over a period of time. Will keep people updated. Even though I bought it in India and it was delivered from Singapore by Google LG has replaced the motherboard.
hahaha hair dryer
I baked my motherboard in my mom's baker.
It's last about week then i sell it.
RIP MY LG G3
Is it still running ? Could you upload some pictures on where you applied the foil ?
at the moment not is not running it started to randomly reboot, and i made another flame bake and is gone, i will buy another cheap dead phone to play with, anyway this method is good if u want to recover at least the files bla bla, i need to find a better way how to fix the chipset. anyway is fun
I just baked my wife's 100% stock locked 5x.. 2 minutes at 150°c (from cold to temp, timed after it reached temperature) and 30 seconds at 235° ( again not setting the timer until it reached temperature).. Used a hair dryer to slowly bring the temps down ( mine has a cold air button) then put it in the freezer for 5 minutes...
Booted, transferred files, installed apps and its still running several hours later.. I'm going to factory reset it, unlock it and mod it until it dies..
I bought her a Nokia 7 plus replacement phone..

Replaced screen, still not responding to touch, please help

Sorry for the capslock, but I really want my OP5 back, i miss the screen, the battery life, which would be even better now because i have a brand new one in it, and it still is nothing more than a paperweight.
I have an OG Pixel XL thats snappy enough after a custom kernel, but the battery life is absolute sh*t, and it has half the RAM.
I didnt see anything damaged, i checked every port, connector, and junction with an endoscope out of sheer curiousity.
This all started about 4 months ago, driving home, and i was at a red light, got a text, started to respond, and it just quit.
I tried everything, new firmware, new OS entirely, aforementioned I replaced the screen & battery.
I've just recently gotten around to replacing the screen, and i was so hopeful and excited, I've never cried over a smartphone but after you slave over one for almost 3 1/2 hours, you become attached to it.
Well, I did.
Either way, I love this phone, and i'm praying there's someone who would look down on me in pity with my half-the-time-not-lasting-a-night-while-not-even-DOING-ANYTHING-Pixel XL-self
lss: i have a mint condition paperweight, please God send someone to help me.

BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH PHONE DIES UNEXPECTEDLY

G900V KLTE - BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH PHONE DIES UNEXPECTEDLY!!! (new battery)
Still having a problem with black screen of death. I had made a post about it earlier in the week but no response. I have kept everything basically the same, except I use Magisk 21.4-23 (newest), and TWRP 3.5.2 upgraded from 3.5.0 like maybe a couple months ago. Ever since last month have had the problem. I have brand new batteries installed as I thought maybe that was what was causing it (previous experience). Screen goes black, phone vibrates a couple times, then I have to battery pull to try to power on. Sometimes it works, other times it doesnt. In other instances have had screen freeze and get all static and soft reboot itself. I can see the white captive touch buttons working and sound but screen does not wake. Battery pulls for X amount of time does not solve the screen issue. I have flashed correct firmware several times in ODIN. I had this black screen issue and phone died while at the store earlier today. I need a phone thats dependable! This has been happening on any custom roms I use 14.1-18.1. I'm so frustrated I nearly broke my phone in half last night!
Any ideas what's causing the screen issue?
I had a very similar problem on my Galaxy S7. It used to suddenly shutdown, sometimes reboots by itself. Sometimes it won't just turn on at all except after some time.
Sometimes, it vibrates, shows the bootsplash for a few milliseconds, then shutdown.
What a coincidence that when I upgraded to TWRP 3.5, it was when the problem started to hit.
I was using crDroid based on R, It wasn't stable, so I thought the problem was the ROM/Kernel/Recovery. I tried an already known stable ROM.
The same thing happened, then I was semi sure that it is on hardware problem. I teared the device apart. The problem was .. Water Damage.
I thought the phone was water proof/resistant. What a disappointment. Anyway I've cleaned every molecules of water from the phone. It worked fine afterwards.
But I lost the battery percentage diode or something, so the phone can't read battery percentage/voltage.
It took me 3 months to know all these things. I hope it be of help to you.

So I did some more testing tonight. I first downgraded TWRP to 3.5.0 from 3.5.2 had same issues. Now i'm on 3.4.0, and I pounded on the display upside down while in recovery. It did the reboot thing and screen went black. Phone would not power up, even after removing and re-installing batteries. It has taken several tries with and without plugging it in. Finally it has booted up and I went into recovery to re-flash yet another rom. The phone would do the black screen thing at random and have issues if placed down too hard.
Obviously it's not software related it's hardware.
So my question is the display bad or the motherboard?
Should I just look into getting a 5G brand new phone or try to get it repaired somewhere?
I've been considering switching to T-mobile once I get a 5G device.

That's obviously water damage. I used to get all that on my old S7. It is fixable, you need to untie your motherboard, heat it till it literally dries up. Then it won't repeat that BSOD thing.
However, if you tried to boot the device while there's still some water, it will cause more damage to the components, diodes.
Galaxy S5 is for about 40$ in my country. You should consider buying another, more recent phone. Midrange 5G phones are for about 250$ - 400$ here. Though I still miss 2014 phones.

I have no idea how to untie a motherboard or take apart my phone. I'm sure I'd end up doing more damage to it knowing my luck. I have no such tools either to take my phone apart. I've seen S5 for sale here in US for $50 or less and motherboards for a little less. Right now it's hard to afford a brand new 5G phone.
I'm not sure how my phone got water damage? I've always been careful with it over the years never submerged or anything.

Water Damage usually shows a few days up to a few weeks after it's interaction with water. I thought S7 was water resistant.
A tiny drop of water can cause this issue.
Don't know why people rush towards 5G phones, knowing it ain't stable just yet. I've heard USA is shutting down 2G/3G, so the least you should own is a Dual-VoLTE device. I got A70 for ~162$.

Yes 3G has been getting shutdown. 5G is still building out the network. If I were to stay with 4G I might as well stick with S5 since I know it and all my data is saved with titanium backup.
I have read to soak my phone in isopropyl alcohol for up to a couple hours. https://www.orduh.com/water-damaged-samsung-galaxy-s5/
It might be cheaper for me to just find another S5 right now. Can I restore backed up titanium data to a different phone?
I got this phone back in 2015 off eBay after my developer edition SD card slot was broken. Near the front camera it looked like some sort of damage may have occurred after I had received the phone. But I didn't have any of these problems other than a few years ago the BSOD once in awhile which went away.
Currently the BSOD issues have been since earlier this month/last month. As long as I don't put my phone down on table or hit it too hard it has no issue. If it's placed on table as gentle as a feather it's fine. But I have to do lot of battery pulls when I'm out doing errands walking with it.
And screen takes forever to wake when receiving phone calls sometimes I miss them. It's very delayed.

So I looked at the water damage indicator sensor. My phone's patch is still white with a reddish x pattern, there is no water damage. If there was damage it would be all red.
There's no other explanation for BSOD the way you described except for damaged components, unless the phone was water damaged, it must have received a very hard hit.
That hit will definitely affect the screen, if the phone was refurbished, you won't notice it, cause the motherboard is connected to a good working device.
If you think it is software, there's bootloader, baseband, kernel, and system that you can change to confirm your thoughts.
It's very easy to untie S5, only needs one tool.

I know it's not software the bootloader, kernels, baseband have all been same and worked fine up until this month or so. I smacked the front of it while in recovery to see if it would have the issue. Sure enough it is hardware related! I just messaged a local repair shop on how much a fix would cost. I dont feel comfortable taking apart my phone and I dont have tools or anything.
