Picking Correct Firmware in Firmware Finder - currently on B393 - Huawei P9 Lite Questions & Answers

Hi All,
A while ago I decided to go the Firmware Finder route and managed to update incrementally to C432B393.
Is there any new update for that? All the newer ones I've tried tell me that "the firmware is not approved for installation".
Thanks in advance

It's okay, I've gone through the later versions one by one and found a b397 that is suitable.
So might update to that...

Huawei GRA-L09C470B210 update to Android 6

Trying to update GRAL09-C470B210 from Android 5.0.1 and Emui 3.1 to Android 6 and Emui 4. For starters. If there's more to update even better. I've looked all over the threads and can't find my build and model and the update. I've looked on Huawei's website. I've done the phone Emui update search (no updates). Firmware Finder only has the GRA-L09 C470B210 OTA listed.
I'm new to updates so don't understand all the root and bootlog lingo.
Help!
C470 would indicate South-East Asia or Southern-Pacific (Aus/NZ) region - is this right? Also, is it Vodafone-branded by any chance?
If yes to both above, then Vodafone may not have released a Marshmallow (Android 6) update for the P8 in your area.
If you wanted, it is possible to manually update to a non-branded European firmware version (C432) if you like (see Steve039's post HERE dated 2016-Apr-24), & keep updating manually from then on, but I'm not sure how this is done safely (usually it's not recommended to update directly from one region's firmware to another, but it seems to work fine for some. Also, if it's a branded phone, then it usually also needs to be debranded before updating).
Once you are on a non-branded European firmware version (B200 or greater), you can update to the latest Marshmallow version, which is B393 at present: [Firmware] Huawei P8 GRA-L09 B393 27/02/17
It was purchased from eBay a few years ago as an International model. It is unbranded. I think it was either from a seller either in Hong Kong or Taiwan. I don't recall specifically. The hardware version is Grace UL VN1 if that makes any difference. It is unlocked. But I have never rooted it. I had updated it once, but did not keep track of what the actual update was for. I think it was to update to the B210 designation. Thank you for your help, I will look into the Euro conversion and see if it's something that I can do. I definitely want to update at least to Android 6.
No problem, I've done a search & can confirm for the Taiwanese version, B210 was the last official update released for the GRA-L09: http://consumer.huawei.com/tw/support/downloads/index.htm?keyword=GRA-L09
So, you should go for the European version if you are able to safely update to it. Make sure to make a restorable data backup (of texts, contacts, photos, etc as applicable) before attempting the update.
So, since my phone is unbranded, I should be able to switch to the European firmware, just above the B200, then make the jump all the way to the latest firmware?
And this would be done via a Local Update, correct?
I'm reading through everything in the meantime, thanks for all your help.
Yes, should be possible, but don't try anything for now until I (or someone else) can confirm it's safe to do & the procedure to follow.
The procedure may involve initially unlocking the bootloader & rooting your phone, but more on that later.

Has anyone downloaded and updated the mate 8 with this update from FF?
If yes please let me know your comments so as to decide whether to update as well.
Am currently on C185B190.
Does not seen i Shall ever get an update to nougat.
Thank you
I updated my phone to B321 two days ago. Is seems to be smoother, but it may be like this because I did factory reset that day
Which file u download ... 1.9GB or 400 MB OTA... And do u download it from the F. F apps
I did mine through FF, sending it to the stock update app. Seems a little smoother. With the glitches still coming from
time to time with a lot of people appear to be having with emui5/nogut7 I think I'll hold off on updating to any emui5 firmware.

I'll update to emui 5.0 when they will release something newer than B560.
BTW, I also updated my phone trough FF.
I am on L29C185B200 ... I want to update B560 ... But when I try to download it from the firmware finder app... It's only downloads 74%... It's full file size is 1.87GB but it downloads only 1.4GB ... Help me please
Hi. I am on L29C185b320 can any one suggest a proper way and firmware to upgrade plz.
Try Firmware Finder app for Huawei...
In FF, turn off "use new firmware base" and "view OTA updates"
When I did that, the ONLY firmware that shows up is the 321 firmware OR EARLIER.
I'm of the opinion, I'm going to leave the new firmware base & view OTA off until I see
the "official" version of 7, then wait a couple weeks to see how it works out.
I'm also trying to get 7.0 update... In Firmware Finder it's showing B560 but I can't download it ... There is a problem with the system ...

Doubt there is a problem with the system, it's because your build, will not allow the updating of an OTA version most likely.
In the setting of the FF program, turn off OTA and then look for firmware. When I did that last week, the 321 build was the
only option I had. My guess is that when/if a FULL build for our particular phone is available, with the OTA turned off, a
full build will show up.
But, that is just a theory on my part.
What's your build number ... Mine is L29C185B200...

Huawei P9 Lite EMUI 5.0 Upgrade Help! - VNS-L31C440B132

Hi all,
I've had my P9 Lite for about 10 months now and I haven't recieved one system update yet. I've been waiting for the OTA system update for EMUI 5.0 but alas, it hasn't come to my phone and I don't understand why. The phone Android security patch level is 1 June 2016 and that is worrying as well! My Build number is VNS-L31C440B132 and I was looking for a way to update to the latest availble version while also keeping my current phones data. The Updater in the settings always says there is no updates available and i've tried using 'Firmware Finder' as well but the updates failed.
I'd appreciate any help with the matter.
Thanks,
Charlie
Hello
Firmware here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p9lite/how-to/vns-l31c440b380-t3617778
In 1: maybe you can try the three-button method (dload).
In 2: try to do the update with the pc and HiSuite (update the system).
In 3: you can also test a firmware updater v2 application and hisuite. https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/huawei-p9-p9-plus-firmware-updater-t3435873
In 4: or do the bootloader code request and install recovery twrp for MM and install nougat.
Thanks for the help here, your method worked absolutely fine, I appreciate it. Nice to see a great community here.
Thanks,
Charlie

Hi Barbu,
I found a quick way to do this.
Downloading the updates might take a while so make sure your phone is on charge or charging.
First you want to go to the app store and download Firmware Finder (XDA wont let me post a link because I haven't posted 10 times so you'll have to search.
Then go to Settings > Use proxy for install > Download Addon. An apk will download, install this.
Then go to Firware Finder and click this magnifying glass at the bottom right to refresh. Then look for the update that ends in 'B160' and has 'FullOTA' in the name.
Click on it then > GET AN UPDATE THROUGH PROXY. You will be taken to the Proxy App where you need to follow the instructions on screen.
Then you need to go to your phone settings and click on 'Update'. After it scans and finds a new update you need to click on it and then quick install. While it's installing you might want to go back into your WiFi settings and change proxy to 'None' just in case there is connection issues.
Once that update is installing your going to want to repeat these steps but this time install 'B382 FullOTA'. This should give you EMUI 5.0 with loads of new features now!
It might work by install B382 straight away but it didn't for me.
I hope this helps!
Thanks,
Charlie
Hello, thanks for ur help

the problem is that mine is neither b160 nor B382 ... it' an b132... so it's not the appropriate file for my headset, no?

I can assure you this isn't a "hack" or "jailbreak". Firmware Finder was even developed by members of the XDA community and it's 100% legit. I had the same problem as you Barbu, I was on B132 and wanted the new android 7 update but my phone is also on EE and it wasn't rolled out. All I did was what I detailed in the steps in my post and it worked, and B132, B160 and such are just the version number so installing the B160 will just give you a new firmware update.
Thanks,
Charlie

No. You need to wait until the update has installed. This might take a while as it has to download then your phone will restart and the update will install.
Thank u very much my friend i will tell u the news once the installation finished ...
last question: why don't install the b382 directly without installing the b160 ?

Just didn't work when I tried it so I thought it's better to be safe.
First, thanks for info and effort.
I did everything you wrote. But after I change proxy server, as it stands in Firmware Finder Proxy, and tap Update, nothing happens. There is no update. Maybe I didn't change proxy in right way. But, I googled it just in case, changed it again, and again there was no update.
One more thing. In Firmware Finder, there is firmware for VNS-L31C440B132 in the list. So, I did not chose "B160" and "B382" like you said. Then, I did as you instructed, and there was no update.
Any help?
Thanks.

First off, is there any other firmware in the list or just the one ending in B132?
And did you:
Click Get an update through proxy and they get taken to the proxy finder app where it gives you instructions on what to do to your WiFi settings? Because after you have done that go straight to settings > update > then check for a new update. A new update should appear in red.
If this didn't help just give me another shout and I'll try and help more. If not, there is some firmware finder threads on here as it was developed by person/peoples from the XDA community.
Thanks,

I did it!
This time I followed your instructions, first B160 then B382 but not via GET AN UPDATE THROUGH PROXY, but GET AN UPDATE THROUGH DNS (BETA). And it all worked for me.
Regarding your instruction, I couldn't get an update for B132, no matter what I tried and how I changed proxy server.
In the list there are 8 firmwares. FullOTA B383/382/380/370/160/132 and OTA B160/132. Then I tried B132 FullOTA through dns (beta), I got an update, everything went well, but when I checked About phone, there was no change, Emui and android version did not change. Then I tried with B132 OTA, but it failed during installation, twice. Finally, I tried B160 FullOTA first, then B382 FullOTA through dns, and now my phone is on Android 7.0 and EMUI 5.0.
Through dns is just 3 taps, then check update and that's all.
Guys, give it a try both ways, hope you will succeed.
Charlie, thank you for information.
Hello Charlie
I followed ur méthod step by step ans it works with me even if it took thé entité day about 10h....
Now i'm runing on nugat 7 thank u very much for ur help ... But I think once Android 8 rolled out WE have to do the same thing, didn't it ?

Is it still possible to upgrade VNS-L31C440B132 using FF?

Like many other disappointed EE customers who never got a single OTA update for their VNS-L31C440B132 I would like to use this method as it looks pretty straightforward (no unlocking bootloaders/rooting etc) but I may be too late to the party:crying:. Without showing all the details, FF currently lists the following available firmware for my device:
VNS-L31C440B383, VNS-L31C440B382, VNS-L31C440B380, VNS-L31C440B160, VNS-L31C440B160, VNS-L31C440B132, VNS-L31C440B132
The only ones that are approved are both the B132s which are OTAs and there is no longer a B160 that is a full OTA update. They are just (incremental?) OTAs. FullOTAs now start from B380. Perhaps the files I need are no longer available. Is it time to give up, or am I missing something here? Fortunately I now also have a Lenovo P2 with global ROM which DOES get OTA updates!
**Update**. I emailed DEV and they think Huawei may have moved some firmwares but that the missing ones may re-appear in a future scan of their servers, so I will periodically check to see.
Cheers

Last night i managed to update my phone from VNS-L31C440B132 to VNS-L31C440B383 using the method in this thread. I installed the B160 OTA update first through firmware finder via proxy. It listed it as only 740mb (ish) but when i actually installed it through system update it downladed 1.74GB (ish) which installed fine. I then updated to B383 through firmware finder via proxy again which worked fine too. Give it a go it worked for me

Oh great. Thanks. Did you bother with either of the B132s dated 2016.07.14 first (perhaps they are patches for B132) or did you just start with B160? There are 2 B160s dated 2016.10.16 (753MB and 166MB). Did you do a "Check Firmware Access" to see if it was approved? It isn't for me, but perhaps it works anyway. I wonder why the one listed for you was 740MB (perhaps the sizes aren't that accurate)? Are you then saying you missed out B380 and B382 full OTAs and went straight to B383? Sods law is B383 isn't showing up right now, but hopefuly it'll return soon lol

Thanks for coming back on this. Unfortunately I haven't been able to install B160 yet. After selecting the 753MB B160 OTA I selected "get an update through proxy" and modified the network settings. I returned to the FF app and selected "download". I am presented with the following list of selectable options: 1)update.zip ee/gb/ 2)update_data_full_ee_gb.ziphw/default/ 3)update_data_full_hw/default.zip hw/eu 4)update_data_full_hw_eu.zip hw/normal 5)update_data_full_hw_normal.zip
I selected just option 1 and ok and the download started. I left the network settings as localhost and 8080 until after the download completed. I ended up with a file called update.zip size 1.69GB in folder Local>Internal storage>HWFF>98030> but have no idea what to do next to complete the install. Should an install option have appeared at the end of the download or more options appear in the FF app settings? Huawei Updater ("Check for updates") doesn't see it. I don't have an external SD card but don't see why it would need one. Not sure how to proceed, but at least I haven't broken anything

Why Am still in B181 rom

Why my phone didn't get any farther updates? Or this is the latest one?
WAS-LX1AC185B181 is the current firmware.
Same here. It is not the latest update. Latest update is B321 (oreo).. But they had B185, and B183 updates before the oreo update. But we didnt get them that is because of these firmwares were not released in Pakistan.. Other middle eastern countries are having the latest updates.
me too i didn't get those updates....this is weird ?...Maybe we will get updated straight to oreo?
Just get Firmware finder and update via it.
Guys please, the Oreo isn't officially released, it's still beta... And These aren't the latest, there are updates like B198, B197, B203, B206, B209, B210... And yes, you can use firmware finder for huawei from google play to update, just make sure you go to the right firmware for your phone version, see if you are approved for installation (either the installation will stop on 5 or 6%) and check the instruction in the app.
Well it isn't approved.....this is weird....Just gotta wait then?

BTW if you want, you can use HwOTA to update to version you aren't approven for.

GRA-L09C109B379 from April 2018 - why the firmware file is so small in size?

I am searching for the latest firmware for my P8. The newest one seem to be GRA-L09C109B379 from https://www.mobileheadlines.net/download-huawei-p8-firmware-files/
I currently use GRA-L09C02B405 from Vodafone. According to this page https://fordroid.com/huawei-mobile-firmware-region-code/ the C109 region code shows France, most probably Orange.
One thing bothers me. The firmware is around 10% smaller than these one that I had flashed before, they were 3.0 gigabyte in size or so, this one is 2.7 gigabyte only. Orange firmwares tend to have pretty much unnecessary apps un them, at least in Poland, so they should be larger than the rest of them or at least the sizes should be comparable, of course if my guess is right. Maybe there are some French regulations that forced Huawei to slim down the firmware (Facebook removed? Twitter?). I am really puzzled.
Is anyone who has flashed the firmware over C02 and/or C432 ones or can explain why the firmware is so small? Any thoughts?
Less bloat
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...ei-p8-gra-magicarrow-v3-t3751885/post76483150
Thank you very much for your explanation.
I will update the firmware of my P8 next week. Unfortunately, one cannot update it directly from Vodafone's C02B405, so I will have to downgradee firmware to European C432B39x first and update to French C109B379 next. I have tried to update it directly with no success.

Flash the update.zip with TWRP.
I installed the firmware three day ago and I have to say that it is great. Works very well. Almost no bloat from Orange (only Apps Orange - 116 kb in size and which can be easily switched off, moreover, it is not aggressive like the Vodafone bloat which pops up every reboot). Well done, Orange!
I have neither TWRP nor root in my P8. I had problems with both in B399 and I have not tried to install them since. Maybe I will try next week, however, I use Blokada.org so I feel no pressure.
Can this be flashed over C432B520 ? Strangely there is not new update for C432 and I'm stuck on security patch level from January 2018

Should be. If dload doesn't work, then try flashing the update.zip with TWRP.
