Soft Lock Option (without using power button) - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Is there a native way to lock the phone using a double tap, widget, etc? Just looking for anything OTHER THAN a physical button to save wear and tear on the button. I prefer a soft button / widget, but if something is built-in, I could get used to it without having to add-on software.

Negative. No tap wake and no app. Said they were thinking about adding tap maybe in a future update

You can double home button or status bar to lock with Lineage. This function is configurable in settings, no need extra app.

If you choose to install Xposed, GravityBox has the option to dbl-tap status bar for.sleep

I use Screen Off and Lock from the playstore. If using the stock launcher, click on the icon to turn off/lock. If using Nova Launcher, set up the double tap to run the Screen off and lock program (in the Gestures & inputs). Been using it for years with no problems.

my problem is: when i full screen for gaming, the cm7's status bar will hide down, and when i want to exit the game but the game dont have exit button. i dont know how to get back the status bar (back) from hidden.......
and every times exit the game i have to press on/off button and release the ram memory by 360* (*a widget from china made anti virus) then the game will erase and exit.
Install a app such a zmooth. It puts a little touchpad at the bottom of your screen, where you can use 3 gestures for home, menu and back. Works in all windows, such as fullscreen games or apps.

thx to you~!!! dude, it's working~
Menu> settings> cyanogenmod settings> tablet tweaks> disable fullscreen
Choose the other softbuttons you want here too, like a home button on the notification bar!
Otherwise, choose power buttons menu and add a back button... Home button is on the power screen by default.

Be aware that disabling fullscreen may cause UI issues on some games and apps where the controls and text get mashed together. Real Racing 2 on mine had the controls and menu selections all mashed up on top of each other until I re-enabled fullscreen.
Another way is to add back button to power button settings

I really like this here https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smart.swkey for a few reasons. I can have it almost completely hidden (I watch a lot of videos and want the least amount of distraction) and you can also long press on them (which also works with cm's mods) so if you have the option set to kill foreground app via long pressing back button, it will work with button savoir, another example would be... I have holding menu button hides/shows the status bar via cm settings, that works with button savoir (actually that does not even work with cm's built in soft keys) I'm thinking about buying the license key so i can remove/customize the buttons but I haven't yet. I'm kinda holding out for cm 9/ICS. My experience with the unstable builds are that navigation is very well done and I might not feel the need for any third party navigation method.

That would be my choice as well yes, I've had it running on my KF since day one. Havn't bought a license key more for the fact that the only time I need it is when I need a back or menu button from within a fullscreen app

Replacing navigatiin bar wuth LMT launcher, need help

Basically, I have managed to hide the navigation bar. I also have LMT up and running, but something still makes it a non viable option for me. Basically, a lot of apps (Dolphin Browser, Amazon App Store, etc) have a Settings button (three periods) appear on the navigation bar when in use. Is there a way to recreate this feature with LMT pie controls? Thanks in advance.

Just add a pie button for menu. I personally add it as the secondary action for my recent button. Just don't release your press after the lmt pie opens and the secondary options should pop up. You can also change the value of how long you have to hold it for in the lmt settings.

home button alternative?

i tend to use stylus a lot and i can even use it on soft key buttons which is great, i always want to use home button function without pressing the actual button. Is there a motion gesture or anything similar that would allow me to go to home screen?
Basically i would like to avoid pressing the home button with finger all the time.

use swipe home button. Works perfectly with Spen. Just set sensitivity to large inside its settings if it is not that responsive.
thanks guys i liked the samsung accessibility one but i thought it was too laggy to open up and then its always floating
i then found perfect simple app called 'Home Button', its always in notifications and you simply click it
Try floating toucher on google play.
Gmd pen gestures. You create the gestures you need for whatever functions. I've got press pen button swipe down for notifications and up for home..

Home Button Double tap?

Is there a way to change the double tap of the home button to something other then the camera. I'd like to put a different app on this if possible?

Thanks
I've been using a combination of Home2 Shortcut and Recent Task 2 to have my home button launch recent apps when I double tap it. You must disable the double tap camera function on your S7 to get it to work.
Home2 Shortcut is a really old app but it still works. It acts as a home launcher replacement that listen to how many times the home button is tapped. The app's settings lets you choose what app to open when it's double tapped and what home launcher to open when it's single tapped.
Thanks, shoremunkey, I'll try them out.
Yes, download "Home2 Shortcut" app.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.
Also "all in one gestures". It doesn't have the double tap feature, but it allows you to reassign the home back and recent buttons to whatever you like. It provides different functions for holding, and also gives the option to use edge swiping.
For example I changed the "back" function to the recent button because I'm left handed, when I that button it kills the foreground app. The back button has the recents function and when it's held it takes a screen shot. Then I used a swiping gesture from the bottom of the screen to drop the notification drawer. It works great especially using finger print unlock because as soon as it unlocks I swipe my thumb up the screen and it shows my notifications.
Hey do you mind telling me how you got home2 shortcut to work. I disabled the camera double tap shortcut and assigned an application in step one however for the last step "close" closing the dialog, I am not presented with an option to choose a launcher like the app says. Thanks

Non-Root alternative for "Less frequent notifications" Xposed Module?

Does anyone have any good recommendations for apps that can limit the number of notification sounds that your phone can create within a certain time-frame? There was a great Xposed module [less frequent notifications] that could do this on a rooted device and I find myself missing that feature a lot on my un-rootable S7 .
Also looking for an app that will let me customize what the home, back, and recent buttons can do.

Thanks for the suggestion. It has quite a few options, but it looks like it is missing the ability to customize a 'double tap' press on any of the buttons. I wasn't able to find a 'last app' action either. My ideal set-up would be:
Home
single press - home
double press - camera
long press - google Now on tap
Recents
single press - recents
double press - do nothing
long press - google search
Back
single press - back
double press - last app
long press - kill app
edit: realize I can do without the double press and could move the 'last app' action, if available, to the recent apps long press.
